Perth is the capital and largest city of Carolina. It was founded in 1660 as the first British settlement in Australia, established as the centre of the Province of Carolina. After the federation of the Australian colonies and the independence of Cygnia in the late 18th century, Perth became the de facto capital of the new Empire. It continued to serve simultaneously as the imperial and Carolinian state capitals until 1800, when Carolina ceded territory to Perth's south to the federal government, which became Northam, TS. Perth and Northam are sometimes grouped together as the Perth-Northam conurbation.
