João Pimenta da Veiga Filho (Belo Horizonte, July 2, 1947-) is a Brazilian politician and lawyer with an office in Brasília. He is the current governor of the state of Minas Gerais since 2015, served as a federal deputy for the MDB party and the Brazilian Democratic Movement Party (PMDB) from 1978 to 1988. In 1988, he was one of the founders of the Brazilian Social Democracy Party (PSDB) and mayor of Belo Horizonte. He was re-elected federal deputy for the PSDB party from 1994 to 1998, he was also national president of the PSDB from 2004 to 2008, when the party assumed the presidency of the republic.
In 2014, he was chosen as a PSDB candidate for the government of Minas Gerais and also coordinated the PSDB campaign in the state. He ended up winning against PT Fernando Pimentel. Succeeding Antônio Anastasia
