The Polish Revolution of 1981 was a mass rebellion launched by the Solidarity Trade Union against the Polish People's Republic and Soviet Union, in response to the deteriorating economic situation in Poland. The revolution itself began on 13 December 1981, hours after the Communist government of Poland declared martial law to counter the already-occurring protests.
