Polynesia, officialy the Polynesian Federation, is a country that encompasses most of the oceanic islands, located in the continent of Oceania, as an island country it does not border anyone. Its origins go back to the tongan empire which was founded in the 950s, The Tongan Empire would continue to expand and in 1494 the Declaration of Nuku'alofa formed the Polynesian Federation to reflect Tonga's new status, it would be a hereditary monarchy lead by the Tongan kings until 1795 when the system was changed to an Elective monarchy, to reflect the new amount of polynesian kingdoms that popped up such as Hawaii and Tahiti, Polynesia would remain an absolute monarchy however until 1876 when the office of Prime Minister was established aswell as its legislature, The Polynesian National Assembly
Today Polynesia is a popular tourist spot due to its beautiful beaches, especially in places such as Hawaii, Tahiti, and Bora Bora, within Polynesia there are several subnational kingdoms, such as Hawaii, the Maori Kingdom, and Fiji
History[]
A long while ago, the Polynesians were a seafaring culture discovering multiple islands, this included Hawaii in 290 AD and New Zealand around 1300. One Polynesian civilization called "Tonga" eventually started to expand and form the "Tongan Empire" around 950 AD, the empire continued to expand to the point where in 1494 the Tongan King Kau'ulufonua I proclaimed the "Polynesian Federation" in a paper titled the "Declaration of Nuku'alofa". In practice however, it was still the giant Tongan Empire as the kings of Tonga still held the kingship of Polynesia in a hereditary monarchy, however this started to change when many other polynesian kingdoms like Hawaii, Bora Bora, Tahiti, and others. After the death of King Paulaho and the accesion of his nephew Fuanunuiava, the system was changed to it being an elective monarchy, which was first put into play with the death of Fuanunuiava in 1810. This was also around the time when Polynesia started to westernize and in 1876, the absolute monarchy era ended when the office of "Prime Minister" was established.
