The Prime Minister is the leader of the cabinet and the head of government of Great Britain. The current responsibilities and traditions of the office stem from the creation of the contemporary British state, and the office is defined in the Constitution of 1991. According to the Constitution, the President nominates and appoints the prime minister, who will then propose the composition of the cabinet. 14 days following their appointment, the prime minister must submit a programme outlining the government's agenda to the Commons, requiring a vote of confidence.

Nomination[]

According to the British Constitution, after a general election or the resignation of a Prime Minister, members of the House of Commons are proposed and seconded for the nomination of an MP to the position of Prime Minister. They are voted on in the order in which they are proposed, and if a candidate reaches a majority of votes cast, they are appointed Prime Minister (similar to the Dail vote in Ireland IRL). The proposal must be approved by the House of Commons within 10 days. The program are debated by the House of Commons and passed by a simply majority.

Once the cabinet is selected and the vote of confidence on the governing program is obtained, the Prime Minister, the Ministers, and other members of the Government take an oath. The Government as a whole and each of its members exercise their mandate from the date of the oath.

As part of political tradition, it's take the oath of office inside Buckingham Palace, in a ceremony administered by the Head of the House of Windsor. Upon their inauguration, the prime minister and his or her ministers must take the following pledge before the head of state:

"Assuming this office of prime minister. I do solemnly swear to be faithful to the provisions of the constitution and other laws of the Great Britain, and that the good of the Homeland and the prosperity of its citizens shall forever remain my supreme obligation. So help me, God."
