Prince Rogers Nelson (born June 7, 1958), known simply as Prince, is an American singer, musician and songwriter. His music incorporates a wide variety of styles, including funk, R&B, rock, new wave, soul, synth-pop, pop, jazz, and hip-hop. He often plays most or all instruments on his recordings.

Throughout his career, Prince released over 30 albums and sold more than 100 million records worldwide, earning numerous awards and accolades. He was known for his flamboyant fashion sense and provocative lyrics, often tackling themes of sexuality and spirituality in his music. His hits included "Purple Rain," "Kiss," and "When Doves Cry," among many others.

Early Life[]

Prince was born and raised in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He was the son of a jazz artist, Mattie Della, and pianist and songwriter, John Lewis Nelson. From an early age, he was raised learning how to sing and play multiple instruments from both of his parents. He was named after his father's Stage name, Prince which he would later take in his musical Career. Prince was an activist from a young age, supporting teachers' strikes on the news in 1970 and protesting the American War in 1969. He wrote his first song "Funk Machine", playing it on his piano, at the age of seven. Three years later, his parents got a divorce, both did not want him and he moved into his neighbor's basement. Prince enrolled in a dance program in high school, learning ballet and performing at the Minnesota Dance Theatre.

Career[]

In 1975, Prince started his musical career and formed a band called 94 East in protest of I-94 being built through Rondo. His band was one of the most important parts of the protest that saved the community. The Band sang songs like "Just Another Sucker" and "The Pointless War" which were against the American War and the destruction of Rondo. The Band was disbanded in 1978 after the end of the American War and Rondo Ordeal. After this, he moved to California where he recorded his first album, For You. From 1979-1981, Prince recorded two more albums "Dirty Minds" and "Prince", Which blew up making Prince a well-known artist. In 1984, Prince Realised an Album and a movie both named Purple Rain. The album sold more than 13 Millon copies in the US and the Movie was an autobiography of Prince's life. After the success of Purple Rain, Prince went on multiple tours to places like Japan, Black Communities in the CSA, and Europe. He wrote songs about each nation he visited in his new album, "City Hopper" Which included songs like "Paris Nights" and "Tokyo Dreams". In 1992, Prince changed his name to Which was a combination of male and female signs. This symbol is unpronounceable and he would still be called Prince but write his name as the Unpronounceable Symbol. This angered Warner Brothers who refused to release music with the Unpronounceable Symbol on it. With him unable to publish music with the symbol and his contact with Warner Brothers Ending, he decided to set up his own record publishing business in his hometown of Minneapolis. 7th Street Records began to employ people from poorer communities in the Twin Cities and soon other musicians in the Midwest like Bob Dylan, Bob Stewart, and The Jets, Began to publish through 7th Street Records. Prince got Married to Mayte Garcia and Had A son with her named Amiir. Amiir Would suffer through Pfeiffer syndrome his entire life, Amiir would die at the age of twenty after a seizure. After A four-year break from music, which he used to raise a family and Expand 7th Street Records, He was back in a concert at the Mall of America, kicking off his American Tour. This came with the release of 2 new albums and a new Love Symbol-shaped guitar. Throughout the 2000s Prince began advocating against Animal violence and switched to a pescetarian diet. He also funded a new park on the abandoned I-94 Highway, which stopped at the Rondo Community. Prince was the biggest donor towards 94 East Park, paying for the creek that went through the park and planting the first tree at the start of the project on a stage shaped like the Love Symbol. This Kicked off his Earth Tour where he went to influential cities like Washington, London, Richmond, and Peking to advocate against climate change in his album "Blue Marble". In 2016, He wrote "Purple and Gold" to celebrate the opening of the New Vikings Stadium. after this, he left for a Concert In Atlanta, with a bottle full of prescription opioids that contained fentanyl due to a possible mix-up.

Hospitalization and Recovery[]

While in the air, Prince overdosed on prescription opioids, and his wife found him unresponsive slumped in the bathroom. The plane was close to the Quad Cities Airport but decided to land in Rochester to get Prince to Mayo Clinic. The doctors there were able to treat him and if it wasn't for them he could have died. It turned out Prince was struggling with an addiction to these pills and had to stay in a Mayo Rehabilitation Center for four months before he was able to leave. Only a week later, his son died of a seizure that deeply affected him. He announced he was taking a break from music to focus on his personal life and business. During this four-year break, he appeared very little and there isn't much known about what he did in this time, other than expand 7th Street Records with branches in Chicago and L.A.

World Tour[]

Prince returned in 2020, with an announcement: He was going to visit 40 countries over the next six years. He kicked off this tour in Target Center, Minneapolis then he went to Toronto, Canada; Montreal, Quebec; Dublin, Ireland; Glasgow, Scotland; London, U.K.; Lisbon, Portugal; Madrid, Spain; Paris, France; Brussels, Belgium; Amsterdam, Netherlands; Berlin, Germany; Warsaw, Poland; Budapest, Danubia; Rome, Italy; Constantinople, Rhomania; Cario, Egypt; Carthage; Djibouti. He stopped His tour to visit West Persia and speak out against the Eastern Invasion. He is planning to continue the tour after the Violence in the Middle East ends.
