*'''Augsburg''': Anton Graf Fugger von Augsburg requests to marry a Hohenzollern princess. (Mod Response)

*'''South Australian Civilization: '''Bakan Djalu II died this year. He left behind two sons: Wirrin, and Kurna. Kurna was well favored, and giving the entire city as his birthright, but Wirrin was jealous of his brother's success, and seized power for himself. Wirrin proceeded to murder Kurna, steal his wives, and eat his children. One maid, however, was afraid for herself, and switched out the baby (also named Kurna) for a roasted wombat. And so Kurna was raised in isolation from Ngarrinjderi, unaware of his true right to the city. The road system conveys more messages and ideas across South Australia much faster. Iron swords are forged in Karuna and given to its warriors.

*'''Cologne: '''Both Archbishop Rhoderich of Cologne and Abbess Meina of Essen express their strongest disapproval of the fighting taking place between Catholics and Kappelites in England and send a letter to all their Christian neighouring countries to express the importance of ensuring that as few lives are lost as possible. This is needless slaughter; regardless of one’s specific Christian beliefs, surely it is immoral to kill your fellow man! Archbishop Rhoderich writes to '''Sweden''', personally asking the Swedish government to send bishops to the [[Council of Cologne (Principia Moderni IV Map Game)|Council of Cologne]] to discuss this peacefully, before further lives are lost. Further, he writes to Cologne’s ally '''Brandenburg '''with much concern for the potential lives that could be lost in this growing period of religious dissent. Archbishop Rhoderich notes that Cologne and Brandenburg have long both been states with German backgrounds, and notes that gaining more German autonomy and remaining Catholic are not mutually exclusive. He cites some ideas of Immanuel Volk: Kappel calls for another Pope, but surely German states will be able to gain more secular power with the current Pope stepping back from power, than with a new Pope exerting religious power (albeit of a different kind) over Brandenburg’s true sovereign.

The navy especially is bolstered, several ships being rolled out and sent to the Atlantic fleets. New weapons make their way to the military, including firearms, cannons, and swords. In economic news,''' Portugal offers trade deals with any who are interested, including Spain, the Caliphate, the Ottoman Empire, and Italy.''' Lisbon sees much prosperity this year, the recent independence of Portugal stimulating the market. Portugal also wishes to become closer to the East Asian powers, wishing to trade with the Khmer Empire, Ming China, Korea, and Japan (the last one needing an NPC). There are currently 1.1 million people living in Portugal. Assuming events remain as they are now, Portugal's population will be 2 million by 1575. However, there is a very large baby boom occurring as a result of Portugal's independence. If these rates remain steady, the population could reach 2 million even soonder. '''Lastly, Portugal requests to purchase the Azores from Burgundy, citing its historic and cultural significance to Portugal'''.

The Ming Dynasty still rules over the vast lands of China. On the other side of the world, the Hundred Years War continues between England and France. Europe is still stuck in the old ways of feudalism and chivalry while the notions of a New World are considered figments of imagination.

We welcome you to the long awaited fourth expansion of that immortal series. Welcome to Principia Moderni IV! Starting in 1400 AD, this is the dawn of the modern world and the tail end of the Middle Ages. The Renaissance is just kicking off in Europe, while the nations in the western side of the continent are locked in the last gasp of the Hundred Years War. The Muslim world is still reeling from the invasions of Turks and Mongols, with the Caliphate resting in the collapsing Mamluk Egypt and the Ottomans on the rise in Anatolia. Make it count.

The first game was the most successful on the wiki, leading all the way to the modern day with mostly plausible posts and little controversy. The second game reached almost to the modern day, but failed due to a plethora of ASB events and moderator bias. The third game was much more worthy of the first, almost running into implausibility but climbing back into a shining glory by the end. Riding on the latest reforms of map games since the end of PMIII, this is the most logical next step in that evolution. Remember above all other rules — have fun.

Banned Users

A ban from plausibility strikes lasts thirty days, afterwhich the third strike is repealed and the banned player is unbanned. However, the newly unbanned player rejoins the game with two strikes, as a form of probation.

  • Feud - I (1490)
  • Tre - I (1516)

Moderator Strikes

These are strikes for moderators and how they moderate. The same three strikes rules apply. If a moderator is banned from moderating, however, they can still play as their nation. Mod strikes can be delivered in one of three ways:

  1. If a sufficient number of players (more than half of all players voting) vote to give a moderator a strike.
  2. If I, Scraw, give them a strike.
  3. If a majority of all mods (ie more than half of the total number of mods, excluding that moderator) vote to give a moderator a strike.

Moderators can be given strikes for the following reasons:

  1. Exhibiting bias that would benefit the nation they are playing.
  2. Exhibiting bias that would negatively affect a player they have a personal dispute with.
  3. Making a ruling that contradicts a proven fact from OTL or an established fact from earlier in the game.
  4. Overruling a decision of a majority of moderators.

BIG NOTE TO ALL MAJAPAHIT INVADERS: You have not officially won in Majapahit whatsoever you have won a few battles and taken a few cities, if you withdraw then your gains are lost. Your treaty is not valid as you have treated it like the previous algo and not like the new one which doesnt allow for a 1600% victory to collapse a nation. The percentages are in which you won the battle not the war. The more territory you gain the more you can legitimately take in a treaty. -Feud

His Holiness the Pope has passed away in his old age. The College of Cardinals meets to select the new Pope.

In a strategic move, Tsetseg Khan decides to adopt the religion of Hinduism. As he expected, many Hindus in the Delhi Sultanate join him, giving him support and joining his army. Similar numbers of Hindus side with the Sultan with the largest part of Hindus not committing to either side and being caught in between in the bloody battles. (Side note if it wasnt made obvious by this point Tsetseg Khan is a Great Leader)

With King James II of Scotland having succeeded in achieving independence, he delivers Andrew of Lennox to England as a gesture of goodwill.

King Manuel of Portugal sends Prince Sancho to Scotland to discuss an alliance and connection between these two states. This results in Sancho getting married to the sister of King James, Mary.

The Jagers continue to preach their practices. They become very popular among the people in the countries they are teaching. They begin to depict the Papacy as an instrument that has been corrupted over the centuries to be abused by princes and kings and proclaim that the modern Papacy has betrayed its original foundations.

Lodewijk Bonapaart traverses the Pacific, reaching Majapahit. He then decides to leave as quickly as possible.

The Mongolians continue to assert their independence. They conduct raids into Chinese territory.

  • The Gurkani Sultanate: Sultan Tahmasp Shah Mirza continued his rule over the Sultanate, with an-Nasir al-Hassan as the Caliph and Amanullah Khan as the Grand Vizier. The Gurkani population rose to about 38 million with the people flocking to cities like Herat, Isfahan, Gamrun, Qazvin, Bukhara, Tabriz and Iskenderun; primarily due to their strategic position in the spice trade. In regards to religion, the Sultanate promoted Shia Islam, and advocated conversion to the Zaidi sect from other Islamic sects, often engaging in forced conversions. The military was composed of medium-to-heavy cavalry, composite bow, lance, mace, sword and in some cases, rifles. Heavy cavalrymen wore plated chain mail or metal lamellar armor, with their horses also wearing leather or metal lamellar barding. The infantry was equipped with daggers, swords and pikes to be utilised in close combat; with camels and horses being utilized for the transportation of supplies. Artillery units, particularly Bombards, Superguns and Bronze Cannons were primarily be used for defensive purposes whilst lighter cannon units and volley guns were maintained for offensive operations. The artillery/cannon units in essence had been well-assimilated into the army given their effectiveness in battle and massive destructive capability. In some cases, infantry units primarily utilizing only rifles also existed albeit rarely, with the Sepah-e Nejaf being the primary one. Meanwhile, naval bases at Iskenderun, Kerch and Gamrun were expanded and fortified were to ensure the presence of the Gurkani fleet in the Mediterranean Sea, Black Sea and the Persian Gulf respectively, keen on controlling any piracy. The Gurkani Navy developed galleys and carracks to augment the smaller patrol fleets and armed the navy with artillery units. Meanwhile, agriculture and commerce were at the Sultanate's forepoint, with wheat, rice and barley being amongst the largest produced crops. To prevent the Sultanate from ever getting hit by a major famine, the individual Amirs also engaged in the storage of food supplies, which would be utilized in case of famine or otherwise exported. Fishery was promoted as well as it helped in sustaining the fishery villages that were present along the coast, as well as the major port cities of Iskenderun, Basra, Gamrun, Kerch and Baku. Importance was also given on the development of proper roads for the merchants utilizing the trade routes through the Sultanate, with all caravans being armed and protected with a small detachment of guards. Meanwhile, the construction of educational madrassahs continued throughout the Empire, with the Sultan keen on spreading education and knowledge amongst the populace of the Sultanate. The Sultan sought to replicate the Islamic Golden Age that existed during the period of the Abbasids prior to the Mongol Invasion, and accordingly funded the teaching of Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, with Algebra, Geometry, Astronomy, Anatomy and Medicine being of prime importance. Work continues on Khyber Pass Fort 2. The Sultanate continued to expand its territories into the Caucasus. The Gurkani forces decisively won the Battle of the Amur Darya, crushing the Horde's forces. Having secured the lands west of the Amu River, the army immediately marched towards the city of Merv in hopes of completely expelling the Horde from the region. Meanwhile, the Caliph an-Nasir al-Hassan declared Jihad on Tsetseg, calling upon the Muslims of Punjab to resist him. In particular, Tsetseg's Horde which was almost entirely composed of Muslims was called upon to abandon the infidel (MOD RESPONSE). At the very same time, messengers were dispatched throughout the Delhi Sultanate, spreading the message that since Tsetseg was not a native of Bharat, he was not eligible to lead the Hinds due to being a Mleccha (foreigner; barbarian) and as such, an outcaste. Meanwhile, the forces deployed near the Khyber Pass were reinforced with an additional 80,000 troops to ensure little numerical disparity. The overall 220,000 strong army were now composed of the Gurkani infantry flanked by the cavalry and archery divisions, the latter being supported by the rifle-weilding elite infantry unit, the Sepah-e-Najaf. The forces were further reinforced by light field artillery and volley guns which were to be used in pitched battles whilst the heavy artillery pieces such as the Bombards and bronze cannons would be utilized during siege operations. Simultaneously, envoys were sent to Sultan Harshal of the Delhi Sultanate by the Grand Vizier, Amanullah Khan in hopes of coordinating an attack and routing the Horde which was essentially stranded on foreign hostile territory and practically cut off from its homeland. Moreover, with Tsetsegs conversion, it effectively meant the complete loss of support from the Muslims of Mawarannahar. Meanwhile, after a complete decade since Abbas had started his voyage, he finally returned. After docking the fleet at Gamrun, Abbas, his Mu'tazila companions and the Yangban travelled to Sheraz and then Isfahan in order to meet with the Sultan Tahmasp. Immediately after arriving, celebrations were held in Isfahan as many had assumed that Abbas had perhaps died given his extremely long absence. Soon afterwards, Abbas published his Memoirs, "Dar Sarasar Darya" (Across the Sea), extensively detailing his experiences during his voyage and what he had encountered. The relics and souveneirs that Abbas had brought along were similarly put on display, (with the Gunterist idols and scriptures being exceptions) whilst the Yangban were put to work.
  • Emirate of the Ottomans:  Suleiman begins to work on modeenizing the army and amassing the people to a more Pro War type people, the slaves from africa are given freedom (seeing I can't make a deal to free them) they are sent to mosques and cities to work on imporving things.  Suleiman renames the state to an Emirate (but it's just a name change a nothing happens).  Suleiman is seen as a strong man as he begins to work on the nation's military might. The population begins to grow mostly around the city of Anakar and Izhimr. Suleiman begins to work on creating all black janasir units (due to them being slaves). Most Turks begin to see the Gurkia state as a great nation in the Muslim world and begin to slowly drift to the Gurkia. a Grand Mosuqe is made named the "Mosuqe of the north". Artist and like-minded people across the nation are sent to Ankara to help the state.
    • How hard is it to spell Gurkani? -scraw
    • Gurkia xD Gurkani Diplomacy: The Grand Vizier, Amanulah Khan approves the sale of 75 matchlock rifles to the Ottoman Empire at whatever the appropriate price is.
  • Delhi Sultanate: The military works overtime to take down unrest in India, while recruitment forces are now being targeted at Hindus: "Tseteg is no true Hindu! All he does is try to brainwash inoccent peoples by the masses so that he may expend the lives of many for his own gains." Security doubles-down, while we call upon our neighbors and Muslim brothers to defend against Tsetseg and his invasion (MOD RESPONSES FOR TIBET AND CHINA). We encourage those in Khan-occupied villages to rise up against their foreign oppresors and fight for the stability of India. Some are even sent to infiltrate the Khan army, and then betray them on the battlefield.
    • Now ofcourse I am not a Mod but I honestly don't think China or Tibet can plausiblely intervene because neither of them have an incentive to do so and they would have to cross the Himalayas -Rimp
    • Rimp is correct. -scraw
    • I'd like to point out that the Chinese may very well blame Tseteg for inspiring and/or supporting the Mongolian separatists. ~Orange
    • The Chinese and Tibet even cant send very many troops if any at all to deal with it. With the bulk of Tsetsegs roughly 300,000 strong army cut off and sitting in their occupied territories. The Chinese and Tibetans cant help you. -Feud
  • Korea continues its militarist Songun policies under the King Kim Taehyung. Wheel-lock rifles continue to be produced, replacing older rifle models plus archaic arquebuses and hand cannons. Other gunpowder weapons such as hwacha and the Korean cannon continue to be made. The metallurgical industries are augmented with the construction of blast-furnaces, while mines spring across the northern countryside to harness northern Korea's mineral wealth. With the news of Mongolia seceding reaching the imperial court, Korean royal envoys are sent to Mongolia congratulating on their new independence from the Ming and offer the establishment of formal relations, hoping to foster a relationship based on the hatred of the Ming. Meanwhile, the standing army surges to sixty thousand troops, with thirty thousand troops being mobilized along in the Manchu–Korean border in anticipation of the re-conquest of Manchuria. The Yalu river wall and its forts are further fortified and cemented to prevent a spillage of warfare into the peninsula. Confucianism begins a process of re-entrenchment into Korean ethics and culture. Confucian values such as scholarship, merit, and artistry are promoted, and several academies and universities are built with many of the yangban elite partaking in education.
  • United Crown of Great Iberia
    • We are outraged that Scotland agreed to a marriage with a family of usurpers, and that Portugal dares to associate itself with royals that are clearly above them. We duly continue preparations for war. The mercenaries are due to arrive soon. (MODS PLEASE DO AN RNG FOR MERCENARY ARMY TYPE THANK YOU) All other developments continue as normal, and we continue to attempt to defuse newfound colonial tensions with our ally Burgundy. We stress that co-operation and the great alliance between our two countries is critical to keeping our mutual enemies at bay.
  • Immense joy strikes Austria-Bavaria as Ilya von Habsburg, Maximillian's daughter, births a son. The Throne now has a new heir presumptive, the recently-named Karl-Franz von Habsburg-Wittelsbach.(more to come).
  • Oman: The famed Captain Mu'tasim dies of malaria while visiting the Swahili coast. The charts and records of his expeditions to Africa are kept in the Great Library of Muscat. In Arabia, Omanis begin trading with the Al-Muntafiq and the Abbasids. Construction of a fort begins in Sur. A mosque is built in Al-Hasa. 15 ships are built this year.
    • Vohemar: Expansion continues in the east, with settlers moving further inland in search of more fertile lands. A large pocket of unclaimed land in the north is colonized, as well as the small island off the eastern coast. More expansion occurs in the south, where a land route through the dense forest is discovered. The local garrisons are reinforced with fresh troops due to increasing native attacks. A fort is built near Mahavelona.
  • Brandenburg-Luxembourg: The formal Education of the young Prince Freidrich-Wilhelm continues. with formal fighting training and education on history, literature, religious and ethical instruction,, and mathematics. Otto now entering the last stages of his life begins granting more administrative duties to his grand son the young Duke of Prussia Freidrich making him Regent of Brandenburg, Lorraine, and Luxembourg. Otto the younger passes away after years of illness much to the great sorrow of his father the Emperor and his son the Duke. Freidrich begins a policy of integration of his Grand father's domains with his own estates in Prussia preparing the way for the future PU. The Ducal army of Prussia is integrated into the the greater Brandenburgian forces and the economy is slowly integrated. Manorialism continues to grow at the expense of the older smaller feudal estates, and much of the lands are consilidated into larger Junker families under the auspicious patronage of the house of Brandenburg. Military expansion continues under the tutulage of the young and ambitious Freidrich who builds upon the solid foundations established under his Grand father and continues his father's patronage of science and culture, focusing a lot on improving the Universities that had been somewhat neglected over the last few decades. WIth massive funds being geared towards improving the facultues of mechanical arts (engineering), medecine, astronomy, and alchemy/chemistry Particular empasis is put into the funding of the teaching of Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, with Algebra, Geometry, Astronomy, Anatomy and Medicine. Major efforts to increase the collection of works in the Brandenburg Archives are made and to expand the amount of professors, and lecturors, instructors from Bulgaria are invited to come and work in Brandenburg, several young Academics also decide to travel to Bulgaria to study with Royal sponsership. Expansion of Brandenburg's literary, and philosophical circles continues and the works inspired by both the Renassaince and by classical Germanic works from the Germanic Geroic Age becoming popular. Architecture also starts to change as new inspirations by both Romano-Bulgar, and by classical Gothic styles begins starting in Berlin and Breslau. This new trend of cultural flourishing starts to influence the direction of the Reformed Catholic Churchg which is slowly focusing more and more on German issues and mentality shifting away from issues related to Rome and Italy specially with the Italian separation from the HRE. Cottage industry, mining, and smithy activities continue to expand. Expansion of the Use of Cannons in the armed forces is noted with the introduction of Bronze cannons, and more efficient Match lock arquebuses which start to make up entire unites in the Brandenburgian forces making the ratio of arqubusiers to 1/4th of the total forces usage of wheel lock muskets also begin though due to the expensive price of production not many are made. Luxembourg gun smithies begin tweeking with the design of the new weapon to find a better alternative.Centralization of military command from the nobility to the crown continues as benefits and royal duties are issued out to the nobility in exchange for the increased loss of military power, with many noble youth becoming new administrators and officers a more centralized state structure, while still retaining their feudal privledges over the peasants. The city of Berlin continues to grow with the influx of more nobles, artisans, engineers, and merchants leading to a very vibrant high society, with the Berlin Palace at the heart of it all. Efforts to start expanding the Palace begin. Freidrich and Otto in agreement declare that while Jager's thesises stand as heretical pieces of theology they raise valid points about the church, and ones that have been raised many times in the Brandenburg court debates. Otto as Emperor can not speak out publicly against the pope or the church nor can his heir Freidrich however they show a lot of sympathy towards the group being members of the Reformed Catholic Church. Otto calls upon the Pope, and the Primate to come to Berlin to discuss the matter further. Theologians in Brandenburg begin supporting the ideas of the Jagers more and more however the political climate in Brandenburg remains trense as many of the nobles and the heir himself look to finally break from what they perceive as corruption and decadence within the old institutions of church however Otto remains adepment on trying to bring a peaceful resolution to the crisis. Freidrich occupies Holstein successfully having vanquished Denmark's forces there.
  • Papal States: Old Pope Leo X dies after a struggle with the infirmities of age and a brief illness. The College of Cardinals meets in conclave. In a move apparently inspired by Jager's claims that non-Latins can be elected to the Papacy (an opinion which enjoys some support even within Rome), many of the Cardinal-electors place votes for a non-Latin candidate. Eventually, by the closest of margins, Thomas Rotherham is elected, becoming the second English pope and taking the name Adrian VI. He comes the the Throne of St Peter at a time of clear disunity within the Universal Church. One of his first acts is to write a Bull entitled Super Petram, which rebuts Jaeger's claims that the Papacy has betrayed its original functions, pointing to the great disciplinary reforms enacted by the past few Popes: Leo X, Callixtus IV, John XXIII, as well as their role in preserving the faith Christ entrusted to St Peter and the rest of the Apostles. The Bull also points out the contradiction of demanding a Northerner to become Pope whilst simultaneously maintaining that the Papacy is a corrupted institution. Upon sifting through the effects of the Leo, Adrian finds a copy of the letter sent to the Emperor promising to call an Ecumenical Council. The Pope, whilst personally believing that such a Council is unnecessary, shares the information with his Curia. His advisors are of the opinion that this Jaegerian heresy has the potential to be very dangerous to the preservation of the Apostolic Faith, and counsel His Holiness to follow through with Leo's wish; noting too that the ancient Ecumenical Councils were all held in response to the growth of particular heresies. Despite his own personal opinions, Pope Adrian, taking the advice of his advisors and fearing retribution from the Emperor, decides to call a Holy and Ecumenical Council starting in 1522 to deal with recent confusions relating to the governance, discipline, and faith of the Universal Church. All bishops from every Rite, as well as prominent Abbots, Abbesses, theologians, etc. are called to attend. A representative of Jaeger is also invited, and promised safe-passage [they offered the same to Luther otl], as well as a representative of the Emperor, given His Majesty's role as great defender and patron of the Faith.  At the urgings of his cardinals, Pope Adrian decides to hold the council in Cologne, given that city's location in a somewhat 'neutral' area: not within the temporal control of the Pope, but also not within the areas influenced by the Jaegerians. Additionally, Cologne's place as a relatively reform-minded Archdiocese is another good reason. In other, yet related, news, the Immaculata begin sending members to German universities to rebut the Jaegerians and teach the True Faith.

  • Chinese Empire: The Emperor orders his armies to reassert and occupy Mongolia. Islam continues to spread. Chinese forces easily retake the southern part of the region, reasserting Imperial dominance there and buiilding numerous castles and defenses in order to make sure the region never attempts to leave the Empire again. Troops mass in this newly fortified area, being careful to pay ethnic Mongolians for there goods, not wishing to earn the wrath of the gods that Korea dealt with for desecrating Manchu.

  • Kingdom of England and Ireland: King Edward V grows ill in the winter and his grandson William (Frederich Wilhelm) is sent for in case the King dies and after the ten-year-old William and his mother arrive in England the King dies within a few days. Before his death the King writes out his will giving his nephew Henry, Duke of York son of Richard Duke of York the regency and upon the King's coming of age at 21 as he will be mainly in the Holy Roman Empire he is to appoint a Speaker for the King who will act as his representative when he is not in England or Ireland. With the King's death William III an Anglicization of his name is crowned King of England and the Irish King travels to England to swear his allegiance as a vassal. With the new King who many consider a German there is some concern although the boy has been educated fluently in English in his mother so it is difficult to tell his German origin appeasing some people while others are still tense, the regent and Duke of York supports his second nephew. The new King resolves to stay in England for a few years to continue his studies about his new realm. The regent continues to keep military reforms going to make a better and larger army while he also spends a large amount of time working on an academic as Henry is far more a scholar than a warrior. He visits both Oxford and Cambridge and gives them larger grants insisting that they further pursue knowledge. Meanwhile in Avalon the new settlers are working themselves in and as part of the plan to fill the penal colony up with welsh another 100 couples are shipped to Avalon to work. They expand the colonies boundaries outwards in the pursuit of farmland although they respect the space of Stadacona. By now almost all the colonists are engaged with farming themselves to feed themselves while that is the current main purpose of the colony with no one pushing down the river as of yet.
  • Swiss Confederacy is very behind the scenes since their absence from the world's eye, and it seems a great comeback would be in decades to even a century. Although, the leader of the Swiss has died, and is replaced by his successor, Temu Simon, in January of this year.
  • Cologne: The seminary founded by Archbishop Rhoderich in 1518 has quickly gained traction, especially given the new theological debates present in Europe, and the learned teachers there have been keeping young priests up to date with the most recent debates on theology so that they can have a well-rounded and accurate approach to Catholicism. In particular, they have taken the Jagerian Theses into account, maintaining that parts of them are heretical but other parts raise valid questions, which the Church should be open to accommodate. This kind of teaching, named after one of its biggest proponents Immanuel Volk, a theologian from the University of Cologne, spreads quickly through Cologne as a happy medium between the two conflicting sides. Archbishop Rhoderich explicitly endorses this teaching, along with the equally commonsense approach currently taken by both rulers of Brandenburg, but still fears for the blatant spread of heresy. He makes several public statements about the inaccuracy of the claim that the Papacy is corrupt, and with the help of Abbess Meina, drafts a small pamphlet that circulates around Cologne and neighbouring countries (Berg, Mark, Geldern, etc.) quickly using the Stelzner Press (which remains at the cutting edge (ha) of the business). Archbishop Rhoderich’s message is simple: Even if the Church was corrupt at one point, it is not corrupt any longer. Thanks to the Adelphinian Reforms, corrupt priests have been sent to work in mines, there has been a return to strict monastic discipline, and selling indulgences has been banned. The people of Essen and Cologne understand what it is like to start small and want to change, and they assure Jager that His Holiness is more than willing to listen to any reasonable requests. For example, theologians in Cologne are divided but slightly more in favour of the theoretical idea that bishops from non-Latin rites can become Pope. At any rate, Archbishop Rhoderich, Abbess Meina and Immanuel Volk among other learned theologians at Cologne will be pleased to welcome Joachim Jaeger and their brothers of the Reformed Northern Rite to the beautiful Cologne Cathedral in 1522 where they will proudly host an Ecumenical Council truly meant to bring about peace and unity across Catholicism, through compromise and rational argument.
    • Essen: In addition to generally helping Archbishop Rhoderich with preparations for the Ecumenical Council of 1522, Abbess Meina notices disquiet in Brandenburg and is quite concerned, because Brandenburg and Cologne/Essen have had a long and fruitful relationship of peace, and Cologne has supported Brandenburg’s move to the Reformed Northern Rite despite personally preferring to remain in the Latin Rite for theological reasons. Accordingly, she sends an envoy of canonesses and theologians from the University of Essen to Brandenburg to speak to the people, the nobles and the heir about compromise and the importance of accuracy in teachings. Importantly, the envoy does not condemn Jager himself but rather only the blatant heresies he is spouting. Some of the things said by Jager are legitimate concerns, and Essen has pre-empted these concerns for over 120 years now with the help of St Adelphina. Meanwhile, it is the 100th anniversary of St Adelphina’s death, and there are a few quiet celebrations held in Essen Abbey, with loyalty to their original abbess and faith in the resurgence of cooperative reform spurring on the advocates for peace in both Cologne and Essen. Finally, Solis Ortum walks continue with even more passion and the investigation into a new Order continues.

  • Bahmani Sultanate: (OOC: As I didn't write the algo and I have no clue what's happening with it, and don't have the time to really look at it myself, I'm just gonna follow what Feud says until I take a look myself-probably tomorrow sometime. Also, sorry for being kinda inactive at this crucial moment, but I barely have time to post right now. If it turns out otherwise, then ignore the following.) Deciding that war against Majapahit can be fought another day, all Bahmani troops are withdrawn from the east, though the Bahmani navy continues to support the Bengalis there. Another 50,000 men (not ones from the east-those are still coming back) are sent to help Delhi. Most Hindus don't know what to think of Tsetseg, some identifying him as a liberator, some as a fraud, others as a secret agent of Majapahit or the Gurkanis, or the Abbasids, or the aunt they owe money to. Many simply don't care, seeing it as just another fight between princes.

Lodewijk Bonapaart returns to Burgundy this year, bringing with him large amounts of information and maps from his voyage.

The Jagerian teachings begin to spread out of Brandenburg and into neighboring territories. Another theologian, Hubert van Kappel, begins spreading the Jagerian ideas in Burgundy, although he disagrees with the idea of the so-called "northern Papacy" or the idea of a northerner becoming the Bishop of Rome. He instead proposes a council of northern bishops.

The Brandenburgers translated the Bible back in 1475. The Vatican issued an authorised German translation for use in the Northern Rite in 1485. Also, surely as a sui iuris church with its own Primate, the Northerners already have a council of northern bishops? ~Cal
Didn't know about the Bible. Jagers want a Northern Pope, Kappel says no, the Northern rite must separate itself from Rome. -scraw

  • Kingdom of Burgundy: Lodewijk Bonapart's return is met with great fanfare as his worn flagship, the galleon Gods Grace, and her consorts sail into Bruges. The maps they charted are among the most detailed Burgundy has managed to acquire, and the spices they collected are worth more than the ships that carried them home. Meanwhile, the island of Xaymaca is landed on by the Burgundian West India Company. The entire island is claimed from the settlement on the islands southern shore, which is named Koningstad. Iberia is sent a counter-proposal regarding Kuba, suggesting that the islands west of the Windward Passage (Jamaica, Bahamas, Cuba) are recognized as Burgundian claims, while the islands east of the Windward Passage (Hispaniola, Puerto Rico, the rest of the West Indies) are recognized as Iberian claims.
Work continues on Khyber Pass Fort. The Sultanate continued to expand its territories into the Caucasus. Following successive victories in the battles of Amu Darya and Merv, the Gurkani forces had essentially crushed the remnants of Tsetseg's Horde in Mawarannahar. Immediately, regions south of the Amu River were annexed into the Sultanate. Meanwhile, in respobse to the growing threat of Tsetseg, the 220,000 that had previously been deployed near Kabul crossed over the Khyber Pass and attacked Tsetseg's host in conjunction with the Indians. (Note this happens only if the Indians attack this turn as well). About around the same time, the memoirs published by Abbas, "Dar Sarasar Darya" (Across the Sea) became exceptionally popular.

  • The Swiss Confederacy has had Jagerianism is also spreading into the country, but is met with mixed feelings. The Swiss also are tending to themselves now, nothing to do with anyone other then themselves and their drama. Other than that, nothing of note.
  • Delhi Sultanate: With Gurkani troops marching through the Khyber Pass, Sultan Harshal sees oppourtunity. He orders 400,000 troops to head to the pass and take down Tseteg's host horde. Recruitment campaigns intensify, mostly targeted at Hindus. "It's time to put religion aside and fight for the stability of India. If you don't, you may have no country to worship in." Sultan Harshal decides to bravely venture out of his camp to speak at a recruitment rally in nearby Cuttack. His speech goes on without incident, except that a Hindu loyal to Tseteg attempts to attack the Sultan; the rebel is quickly subdued and arrested before Sultan Harshal departs.
    • The Vassals: The battles of the war have taken its toll on parts of Ladakh, and most cities in Marwar and Mewar have gone into lockdown. Refugees continue to flee fron occupied lands into Himalaya, and sometimes further into Tibet and even China.
  • Bulgarian Empire: The Bulgarian Tsar, Boris, unable to ignore the happenings in Christendom agrees to host a council with the various priests, bishops, the Patriarch, and the cardinals about the issues faced by the now codified and named Eastern Rite of Orthodoxy seeing themselves as a somewhat discriminated group. This view is held mainly by the greek based bishops and cardinals. This however is put entirely on hold as the unified call of the Most Christian Alliance, brings them all to bear as the Bulgarian Empire is forced to ignore the issue and march to war. The Bulgarian empire forced to accelerate its military preparations fields two more legions bringing its exact total to 8, and with full levies to replace the losses. It is expected pulling from the serfs the legions could be restored to 60% of their full strength if major losses are suffered. The Bulgarian 1-5th legions are assembled to aid the Poles and Russians, and the Moldavian Auxillaries are added into the army. This brings the army to 41,000 which marches with former Tsar Simeon at its head with one of Simeons best friends as a general and advisor. This army marches clearly to meet with the Polish and Russian forces. At home the Tsar himself Boris mobilized the final three legions the 6th 7th and 8th legions as a guarentee of there being no attacks or revolts at home. The settlement processes of the empire continues and noticeably this year there is a large population expansion as the years of settlement and developing the foundations of the lands have led to a boom. The population of 5.03 million expands to nearly 5.05 million most of it Bulgar or Vlach-Bulgar. The population of the province of Vlach is shown to be roughly 800,000 with a rough amount of these people having been ethnic Bulgars or those who have assimilated. The Oltenia proclamation by the Tsar is received extremely well by the general nobility with the Vlachs now being seen as not only equal to the Bulgarians, but to be considered indiscernable for all time. This is punctuated shortly with the marriages of two Basarab children to an Asen and Velitchkov a piece bringing in a union between the top three of Bulgaria's high noble families. Some nobility mixing is also noted in the lower nobles adding noticeably to the significantly growing mixed population.
  • Bengal Sultanate: The Sultan sends 20,000 more troops to help Delhi against Tsetseg. The Sultan orders the 150,000 men stationed in Bengal to attack the Khans long with the Gurkanis and the Delhavi. In other news, the new Bengali Navy, now at its peak of 1200 ships, makes a grand excessive as construction of the fleet is officially finished this year. The title "Master of the Seas" is bestowed upon Sultan Sikandar Shah to celebrate this achievement. In other news, the son of the Sultan, Yusuf Shah II is ordered to go on a trip to China and Korea, carrying with him spices, treasures, and also carrying several of the finest Bengali matchlock rifles to present to the rulers of each respective country. Yusuf Shah II hopes to negotiate trade deals with these leaders.

  • Oman: King Suleiman bin Mudhafar dies a natural death at the age of 54. He is succeeded by his son, Numair bin Suleiman. As his first order of business, Numair divides Vohemar, with only land north of the Sisintany being considered part of the colony. The southern portion is declared a separate colony, under direct control of Oman until fixed borders can be established. Dina Arobi and Dina Morgabin are each declared separate colonies as well. Trade with Africa flourishes this year: Omanis enjoy rice, bananas, pepper, and vanilla from the Island of the Moon and Dina Arobi. Oman is also able to gain some influence over the slave trade in the islands north of Vohemar, which are now used as stopover points for slave traders. Recognizing the vast superiority of the Bengali navy, many Omani merchants flock to Bengali waters, as the area is relatively safe from piracy. Feeling outcompeted, King Numair orders the shipwrights of Sur and Sohar to increase production, supplied by shipbuilding materials from the Island of the Moon. Numair also places a tariff on pepper in the colonies to fund these efforts.
    • Vohemar: Instead of expanding further, Vohemar focuses on developing existing settlements and securing its borders with the natives. Relations become strained with the Merina tribe in particular, who see Omani and Swahili expansion as a threat to their homeland. Now armed with muskets, they continue to assert their independence from the colonies, and fiercely defend against any incursions into the highlands. In the midst of all this, Governor Musaaid travels to Oman to mourn the loss of his brother. The Merina declare war with the Sakalava tribe.
    • Southern Colony: Settlements are built in the southern interior of the island as new routes through the heavily forested coast are discovered. Trees are cut down to provide timber for shipbuilding. Sahl Sarwar bin Qadeir is appointed governor of the colony.
    • Dina Arobi: Farmlands are developed throughout the island. A settlement is built on the western coast.
    • Dina Morgabin: Nothing of note.
  • Papal States: Preparation is under way for the Ecumenical Council to be held in Cologne next year. All Bishops from all Rites, as well as prominent theologians, Abbots, Abbesses etc are invited. Pope Adrian issues a brief Bull which excommunicates anyone who dares injure any person traveling to attend the Council, including the Jaegers. Given Adrian is not as Iberia-centric as the past two popes, he lifts the interdict on Portugal and sends a low-level diplomat to the court of king Manuel, thus recognising Portugals de facto independence.
  • Emirate of the Ottomans:  Suleiman begins to work on modernizing the army and amassing the people to a more Pro-War type people, the slaves from africa are given freedom (seeing I can't make a deal to free them) they are sent to mosques and cities to work on improving things. Most Turks begin to see the Gurkian state as a great nation in the Muslim world and begin to slowly drift to the Gurkian. a Grand Mosque is made named the "Mosque of the north". Artist and like-minded people across the nation are sent to Ankara to help the state. Traders are sent to sent to Syria to trade and gain recuites for new units. The Weapons from the Gurkiani state are put to use and are looked at to work on producing more.
  • Kingdom of England and Ireland: The Archbishop of Canterbury travels to the council in Rome to discuss the problems facing Christianity. King William continues his education in England being taught English, German and Latin as well as history, maths and science. The young King is pushed very hard by his tutors while trying to be King as well. The military reforms to the organisation of troops are finished and the first muskets are introduced into units as their armour penetration ability is better than that of the Arqebus. Oxford university builds a new specialist building to house it's medical studies as several doctors have started trying to extensively catalogue details of the human body and how it works. In Avalon the first conflict between the colonists and the natives as another 200 people land and attempt to claim land the natives wanted. The colonists place their farms elsewhere but the desire to drive natives back as the hold their expansion west. Lieutenant Governor Robes sends back word asking for troops to be sent to help him drive the natives away while more work is done on the fort.
  • Brandenburg-Luxembourg: Otto realizing that he has been unable to save the unity of the church in the HRE and realizing that he must now focus on a lot of issues at home, despite this he agrees to go to the meeting in Cologne to try a final effort to maintain unity between the northern and catholic rite, he travels with many of the more moderate members of the Northern Rite to try to hash out a final solution however many of the younger preachers and theologians of the Northern Catholic church are already decided on moving forward with the separation from Rome however they are unsure if they will follow the Jager or Kappel teachings as many feel that a council of equals would be better fit to lead the church then a new pope. Before leaving Otto formally disbands the teutonic order within the Empire given the troubling times that are to come and though he uses a small amount of the lone granted by the Fuggers to pay off the officials leaders of the order, and granting them safe passage to Livonia should they decide to head there and also offers whoever wishesto serve in the Brandenburg forces this is particularly aimed at those who are members of the northern rite offering them titles as nobles and small parcels of land for their service to the empire over the years. Otto also cyphers most of the loan granted by the Fugger family to help maintain the upkeep of Brandenburg and to fuel reforms there while pegging the loan itself to the Emperorship. Freidrich continues a policy of integration of his Grand father's domains with his own estates in Prussia preparing the way for the future PU. With Holstein Secure Freidrich returns to Berlin to assume control while his father travels to Cologne. This new trend of cultural flourishing starts to influence the direction of the Reformed Catholic Church which is slowly focusing more and more on German issues and mentality shifting away from issues related to Rome and Italy specially with the Italian separation from the HRE. Theologians in Brandenburg begin supporting the ideas of the Jagers more and more however the political climate in Brandenburg remains tense as many of the nobles and the heir himself look to finally break from what they perceive as corruption and decadence within the old institutions of church however Otto remains adamant on trying to bring a peaceful resolution to the crisis. Friedrich occupies Holstein successfully having vanquished Denmark's forces there.
  • Maximillian of Austria-Bavaria looks north to the ecclesiastical conference. While his personal sympathies lie with the vicar of Christ, he has to make sure that he is seen as a good catholic ruler. He nonetheless waits untill the council is finished to levy any official statements, although he does send his loyal vassal, the Archbishop of Salzburg, to attend the meeting as one of the most important primates of Germnay. Meanwhile, further reform is done in military matters, with a rigid structure for the ARchducal Guards. In any case, Venetian merchants help unite the economies of both Austria and Bavaria through setting up trade nodes in the civies of Vienna and Munich, as well as setting up branches of their own banks in those cities as well. As such, they are officialy the favoured traders within the Austrian Realms. Funding into the areas of Natural Philosophy and engineering are increased in order to being progressing the renaissanse age. By this year, all matchlock arquebuses are replaced with wheelock muskets in the Archducal Guard regiments. These musketeers make up almost one quarter of all permenant forces. More silver mines are comissioned to pay for these expenses.
    • Infrastructure in Hungary gets a boost. Also, the Guards in Hungary are becoming more integrated with the Archducal Guards in Austria to form a single unified armed force loyal only to the sovreign.
    • Venetian merchants begin to invest in German trade in ernest. With ports of trade secure in Serbia, and trade routes well into Hungary underway, the merchants look northwards. WIth new banks in the cities of Vienna and Munich, many traders find a very easy time to trade, as their Banknotes(which should well be in use by Italian merchants by this point in time) being transferable and redeemable in all major centers of the Austrian crown, but more importnatly, further north than they ever were before. As such, these merchants are able to have easy access to their monetary funds in order to trade with more efficiency. As trade begins to kick off in Germany, the nations of central germany are approached, and scouting by bankers is well underway as to identify new possible sites of banks, ways to make trade more efficient. The intense competition between these banks sees a sharp rise in trade, as opposed to the single-family model, which rules on monopolies, the venetian traders look in many states, the decentralized nature of its essance propelling the economies of all those involved, but especially those of the Habsburg Crown, forward, and of that most especially Veneto, ever upwards.
    • South Australian Civilization: The city-states of the Adeleid Valley and western Australia continue to grow, planting smaller villages in between. The city of Kaurna begins constructing a road system to connect its satilite cities together. In Ngarrindjeri, the Son of the Sun finally returns to the city and meet his long lost brother, cousin, Bakan Djalu. Entering the palace court, he was dressed as a wildman in animal skins, and eating raw honey. Moreover, he asked Djalu to have his daughter in marriage, as it was betrothed to him before he left many years ago. Seeing this display, Djalu was very wary of giving his daughter in marriage to this man, so instead he decided to propose an impossible task for him. On the grounds that the Son of the Sun must possess superhuman stregnth and abilities, Djalu challenged him to retrieve a scale from the giant turtle that holds up Kangaroo Island. For the love of Djalu's daughter, the Son of the Sun gladly took up the challenge. Tying two rocks to his feet, and arming himself with an iron daggar, he sank down in the bay until he reached the relm of the giant turtle, ready to do battle. However, the turtle was much more serene than the Son of the Sun supposed, being much older than the island itself, and instead offered to give the hero one of his scales that shed off many years earlier. Then, as a final act of gratefulness, the turtle bit through the ropes tying the Son of the Sun to the bay, allowing him to float back to the surface.

1522

Tsetseg Khan continues his war in Delhi, avoiding battle whenever possible and instead choosing to sack and raze. He and his horde numbering upwards of 500,000 kill any resistance. Hindus are now in open revolt in Delhi, uneasy with the Sultan's attempts at recruitment. However, there is another group of Hindus who want their own native leader and start a war with the intention to establish a Hindu nation. A third group of Hindus supports the Sultan. Muslims still support the Sultan.

Kappel continues to proclaim his version of Jagerism in Burgundy. Adalbert returns to Scandinavia, believing he has not convinced King James of his ideas. Meanwhile, Joachim travels to Cologne.

The Most Christian Alliance continue their invasion of the Astrakhan Khanate, reaching the capital. Tsar Alexis proclaims victory, although there is still fighting to be done.

In the Caliphate, many are advising an invasion of Persia as the Gurkani are very focused to the east. However, there is an equally powerful faction advocating peace.

The Mongolians continue to go around China sacking and burning things. Many people believe the emperor's inability to protect them means he has lost the Mandate of Heaven.

How the hell can they keep going around sacking shit if they have no access to China? China occupied the southern half of Mongolia already last turn, there is now way they can do that.

If everything was so easy that you can just add "I conquer the whole of Europe" in your turns, then actually get that canonized, then that would just defeat the whole purpose of the algorithm (plus the game would deteriorate even more). Plus, I think Tomor is a great general or leader.

In Greece, a theological dispute between the Greek rite and the Bulgarian rite devolves into a clash between Greeks and Bulgarians after the murder of a prominent leader of the Greek religious community. Soon, a full fledged rebellion has begun in Greece.

Would you be able to provide some more detail for the players involved? What sort of theological dispute? Is it the same sort of governance/precedence disputes that flare up in the Eastern orthodox churches from time to time otl? ~Cal
That was what I had in mind. It adds another layer to the general Greek/Bulgarian tensions. -scraw

In Sicily, the Regent-General dies. The Sicilian Council seek an Austrian successor. In the meantime, the Duke of Castro is named Interrex.

The Council of Cologne begins.  Given that there are lots of different stakeholders, I decided to make a page for it rather than have it all play out here.

  • In Austria-Bavaria, Hearing of the Sicillian Demand, Archduke of Austria-Bavaria and King of Hungary Maximillian von Habsburg-Wittlesbach nominates his cousin, Markus von Habsburg-Wittelsbach for the position of Regent-General. He notes that Markus is the son of Lord Chancellor Albert von Habsburg-Wittelsbach, who advised his brother King-Archduke Ferdinand when he warred on Italy and helped secure Sicillian Independance.
  • The Sicilians accept this choice for their Regent-General. -scraw
  • The Swiss Confederacy is starting to be familiar of Jagerian scripts and codes, although, most of the population is loyal to it's origins in the Holy Roman Empire. The leader of the Confederacy, Temu Simon, might be with it's teachings, although, this is not confirmed as of yet.
    • I don't think we are meant to have otl people this far past the Point of Divergence. ~Cal
    • Alright, I'll change it.
  • Buha: A coup occurs, done by Kuzir extremists with some believing the conspirators have links to religion of the Hermit of old. Once again, it is the Empire of Buha. Islam will be tolerated, but Kuzirism will remain the dominant religion. The Sultan is executed for failing the requirements for a ruler. Conspirator leader Kajankono declares himself Emperor. Many Kuzirs celebrate the coup. Kurzirs also pray for a return of stability to Benin. Bini clergy continue to build Nyzanza with Benin style architecture, turning it into a mud-brick metropolis replacing the outdated hut designs. Emperor Kajankono hopes the good relations with Swahili will continue despite the coup. The Emperor gives thanks to the Swahili despite their support for an illegal religious conversion, for their contributions to the arts and architecture while being in Buha.
  • Papal States: Pope Adrian VI, his Cardinals, most of the bishops of the Papal States, numerous Abbots, Priors, theologians and scholars, as well as Immaculata Superior General Ignazio d'Iasso, arrive in Cologne for the Holy and Ecumenical Council of Cologne. Whilst Pope Adrian himself is relatively conservative in his views, the increasing unrest in the North has led to him adopting a pragmatic, flexible approach; willing to compromise on issues of governance, whilst maintaining fidelity to issues of faith. Joachim Jaeger is received by the Council peacefuly, but he is viewed with deep suspicion by most of the Latin-Rite bishops for his heretical teachings on the Sacraments. Nonetheless, many of those same bishops, adopting the via media of the Kolsch theologian Immanuel Volk, agree with many of Jaeger's teachings on church governance (i.e. the relative positions of the Rites, the possibility for the Pope to be a non-Latin), and hope to use him as an ally against the more radical and decidedly schismatic approach of the radical Kappel. With participation of many bishops from the Eastern Churches in communion (i.e. Greece, Bulgaria), the Council promises to be one of the largest, most diverse, and truly ecumenical, in many centuries. On the arrival of the Emperor, the Council opens with a recitation (in Greek) of the Nicene Creed. In the States themselves, not much of note occurs, but military infrastructure is improved.
  • Korea reaches pre-Manchu secession development, under the policies and reforms of monarch Kim Taehyung. The reconstruction ministry is dismantled, with ministers being absorbed into the ministry of finance. This feat is widely publicized and propaganda praising the house of Kim is distributed. Seeking to place the economy under direct government influence, but without having to own firms directly (which would result in higher government expenditures), Kim Taehyung selects large industrial firms owned by yangban nobility with close relationship with the government bureaucrats, investing in their activities so that they would dominate domestic markets. These industrial firms come to be known as chaebol, meaning "money clan". With the Ming preoccupied with Mongol secession and raids, envoys are sent to Mongolia, hoping to establish an alliance (MOD RESPONSE). The isolationist policy is officially abandoned, but foreign interaction still remains relatively low. Production of gunpowder weaponry (e.g., Korean cannon, wheel-lock rifles, hwacha) increases. The metallurgical industries are augmented with the construction of blast-furnaces, while mines spring across the northern countryside to harness northern Korea's mineral wealth. The mobilization of troops to the Manchu–Korean border continues, in the event an opportunity for the re-conquest of the region appears. The Yalu river wall and its forts are further fortified. Confucianism begins a process of re-entrenchment into Korean ethics and culture. Confucian values such as scholarship, merit, and artistry are promoted, and several academies and universities are built with many of the yangban elite partaking in education.
  • Cologne: Let the Ecumenical Council of Cologne begin! Archbishop Rhoderich welcomes all parties to the Council. Rhoderich, along with Abbess Meina and Immanuel Volk, join many other learned theologians at the Ecumenical Council in the hope of reaching a peace between the many sides of the religious debate. It is time for a reasonable, rational debate. Anything less would be disrespectful to Cologne’s hospitality. The Council is well-prepared and catered for, so that they may discuss in peace. The teachings of Immanuel Volk continue to spread and Volk himself begins to distribute pamphlets endorsing the commonsense via media approach to this situation, the safe and logical solution. Volk himself awaits the decision of the Ecumenical Council, which he knows has vowed to adopt a commonsense approach.
    • Essen: The envoy to Brandenburg remains in Berlin and continues to speak to the people and nobles of Brandenburg. Solis Ortum walks continue, and the visiting Reformed Northerners are encouraged to join in, in a show of unity.
  • Bulgarian Empire: With the Greeks in open revolt and clear victory being achieved in the East, General Simeon, father of Tsar Boris makes his way back. The Legions with the Moldavian auxiliaries return at best due speed to reinforce the Beleagured and spread out legions which remained in Bulgaria. The 18,000 strong force has spent the past few months absolutely struggling under the weight of nearly tens of thousands of revolting greeks. The number is known to be crazy with nearly 80,000 greeks at last count having revolted. The Return of the bulk of the Bulgar army is just in time to prevent the three garrison legions from being wiped out. The entirety of Bulgarians military forces focus in on Southern Greece, Vasiligrad, and Macedonia as the Tsar looks to suppress the Greek revolt. While this revolt is massive the main underlying issue remains that the Greeks are extremely angry about the demotion of the Ecumenical Patriarch to a mere underling to the Latin based pope. This has even been somewhat noticed in the Bulgarian rite church communities who are resentful of the primacy of the pope over the true originator of christendom. The Bulgarian army makes a concentrated effort to prevent the greeks from leaving southern greece as the army advances to roughly Thessograd before having to start fighting minor skirmishes with the large greek army.
  • Kingdom of England and Ireland: As the Avalon colony suffers from the cold and struggles to grow well, another explorer and a welsh one who wants the colonies to succeed as many of the welsh are the ones being used to fulfil the settlement, Iorweth Bowen suggests sailing around the trade winds and up the gulf stream to reach better climates lands and so with funding from the King sails south to Morocco and then leaps into the trade winds into the West indies and follows the gulf stream north until he reaches what he names Williams Bay (Cheapsake Bay) in honour of the King and takes his ships into explore the area and decide how suitable it is for habitation and he concludes the climate is much better for living in while the soil is good and upon his return to England he recommends to the King that another penal colony should be set up there which should receive more colonists. While in Avalon the first fishermen arrive with boats brought over as well and start going for seafood and fish in the river and the gulf. There is not much more pushing in land this year. The river is finally named Alkston river after it's discover. In England the new King has settled in but is still being educated in three languages and several other subjects while Cambridge start what it calls it's astronomers experiment. At the same time and day in England, Northern Arcadia and Poland three astronomers will all map out the charts at roughly the same point in latitude. The experiment reveals how at three different points on the earth the time of day is different supporting heavily the concept of a circular earth. This furthers the competition between Cambridge and Oxford to make new discoveries as Oxford has done revolutionary work on the mapping of the human body.
  • Emirate of the Ottomans:  Suleiman begins to work on modernizing the army and amassing the people to a more Pro-War type people, the slaves from africa are given freedom (seeing I can't make a deal to free them) they are sent to mosques and cities to work on improving things. The amount of Turks that drift to the Gurkiani state begins to stall and people begin to slowly leave the idea. A book named "the window into the human body" is made after reserch was made on the human body. Suleiman begins to work on a mixed military
  • Sweden: We send delegates to the Council of Cologne and fully support the Jägerian cause. We also call a council in neutral Oldenburg to discuss the ideas of Jäger and Kappel in peace. This council is to be held in three years.
  • Oman: In Arabia, the Bani Khalid demand independence for Najd. Muqrin ibn Zamil comes out of hiding and raises his flag in rebellion, conducting several raids into Omani Najd and Al-Hasa and gathering support from the Sunni inhabitants. An Omani army is raised to combat this threat and reclaim Najd, but no major battles are fought. Najd gains de facto independence for the time being. As part of Numair bin Suleiman's schemes, 21 ships are built this year. Oman continues to support the war against Tsetseg.
    • Vohemar: Mahajanga and Toamasina rise as prominent cities within the colony. Skirmishes occur between colonists and natives after a territorial dispute with the Sakalava tribe.
    • Southern Colony: Most land on the east coast is lost to the Betsimisaraka tribe. Further expansion is limited to the southeastern end of the island, where geography is more permissive.
    • Dina Morgabin: Coffee is introduced to the island from Oman.
    • Dina Arobi: Nothing of note.
  • South Australian Civilization: After completing his task, the Son of the Sun was again challenged by Bakan Djalu to a greater mission: collect milk from the wombats of Ngintaka. The god Lord Ngintaka owned a field outside of the Ochre Chapel, raising wombats for milk. But these wombats were holy, such that their milk would bring life to any who drink it. For this reason, they were protected in a magic to kill anyone who approached them. The Son of the Sun arranged a cleaver trap to lure a wombat into a sitiuation where he could extract the milk from a distance. However, as he left the field, he encountered Lord Ngintaka, who had been watching the whole time, and gave wise advice to the Son of the Sun. Meanwhile, the road system of Kaurna begins spreading to other cities.
  • Swahili:  We continue our agriculture policies. The royal guards continue capturing slaves. In the heartland of Mogadishu, the Bank of Mogadishu begin cooperation with landlords to construct hydraulic devices such as canals and irrigation projects to boost food production. Areas interior to Mobassa and Malindi is colonized. We also send out conquistadors to expand northwards into more northern Somalia. We begin building plantations on Madagascar, capturing local tribesmen as slaves. We send 1000 soldiers to Bahmanis to aid them in their war against Tsetseg.

1523

Tsetseg Khan is defeated in one final grand battle, where a total of over one million men fight. Among other casualties are the Gurkani Sultan and the heir to Delhi. Despite Tsetseg Khan's defeat, a large part of his horde survives and are attacking the Gurkani. The Sultan of Delhi still has to contend with Hindu rebels across his nation as well as widespread damage.

The Caliph in Egypt is overthrown by one of his generals, Amr an-Najm. Najm declares himself the ruler of the Caliphate. An-Najm decides to invade the Gurkani Sultanate.

In China, with the Mandate of Heaven lost by the emperor, the general Gong declares himself the emperor. His primary challenger is his fellow general Bao. Bao is known for his string of victories over the Mongols while Gong is known for associating himself with Muslims. As such, Gong's base of support is in the south, while Bao has support from the north. Nova, pick one of these guys to take over China.

Although the Astrakhan Khanate is defeated, Tsar Alexis of Russia and King Sigismund of Poland dispute what is the next course of action.

The explorer Eduard van Kronk approaches the king of England, asking for permission to look for the Northwest Passage.

King Manuel of Portugal sends explorers to the New World. With the discoverings of Balboa, the area south of OTL Panama is claimed for Portugal.

The crisis in Greece continues as the number of rebels expands.

Suleiman begins to work on a mixed military. Suleiman stands with the Caliphate and invades the Gurkani state leading 150,000 troops rushing into Trebizond and then moving into Georgia and the Caucuses while other troops rush into Mosul while 85,000 stay at home and the ottoman army spec ops the black jannris (with a mix of Arabs) are also sent in. Slaves will gain freedom if they join the army and slaves join in the masees
    • Trebizond hasn't been under Gurkani rule in decades. -Guy
  • Tsardom of Russia: Under Tsar Alexis, we have triumphed over the Astrakhan Khanate and now we attack the weakened Gurkani Sultanate. We call in the help of Poland (Mod Response)and send in 31875 troops (85%) while the rest stay at home while we also hire mercenaries to bolster our forces, which is 7500 (20% of 37500).  We strike down into the Caucasus region and aim to take everything up to Georgia. (Someone do the algo, i am busy for the next few weeks, exams.) We also ask the Kalmar Union to send us troops due to our alliances, and as their duty to fight the infidel (mod response, just a few expeditionary troops). Russia has been growing in the last few decades by colonising Siberia, and now we have conquered the Astrakhan. We send emissaries to Poland and ask how we should split Astrakhan (Mod response).
  • Papal States: The Pope and bishops continue discussions at the Council of Cologne (Principia Moderni IV Map Game).
  • South Australian Civilization: After completing these two incredible feats, the Son of the Sun was asked by Bakan Djalu for one last task, which is the most difficult of all: bring back a tooth from the jaws of the Bunyip. Taking a spear in one hand and a club in the other, the Son of the Sun went forth to challenge the Bunyip. Wrestling with its jaws for hours on end, he eventually manages to cut out part of one tooth and barely escape with his life, while the fantastic beast retreated into the Murray River to heal. Exahsted, and not willing to put off this task much longer, Bakan Djalu finally gave in to allow his daughter to marry this wild man. In Kaurna, the road system grows greatly, eventally connecting the cities of Kaurna and Nukunu together at last.
  • Kingdom of England and Ireland: Eduard von Kronk is commissioned by the crown to try to explore the northwest passage. Iowerth Bowen takes 150 men to Williams bay and lands at the land he calls New Gwynedd and his settlement Aberffraw is built on a headland just inside of William's bay (Newport News), he constructs a fort there which he names Fort Bowen and him and his 150 men build a wooden palisade and stake line awaiting more people arriving. In Avalon another 50 fishermen and women arrive in the colony to help catch the vast reserves of seafood in expeditions. In England the introduction of muskets among the army is continued while the Regent Henry constructs more grammar schools in some of the smaller towns which are supported by royal funds so pupils can attend easier with less fees and have better access.
  • Cologne: The Holy Ecumenical Council of Cologne continues, though it appears that some delegates are late to the party per se and are encouraged to speak up as soon as possible. (Brandenburg, Mods, please respond) The teachings of Immanuel Volk continue to spread in the meantime, and people meet outside the gates to the Cologne Cathedral to see how this Council will go down.
    • Essen: The envoy to Brandenburg remains in Berlin and continues to speak to the people and nobles of Brandenburg. Solis Ortum walks, with a few visiting Reformed Northerners, continue.
Before leaving Otto formally disbands the teutonic order within the Empire given the troubling times that are to come and though he uses a small amount of the lone granted by the Fuggers to pay off the officials leaders of the order, and granting them safe passage to Livonia should they decide to head there and also offers whoever wishes to serve in the Brandenburg forces this is particularly aimed at those who are members of the northern rite offering them titles as nobles and small parcels of land for their service to the empire over the years. This new trend of cultural flourishing starts to influence the direction of the Reformed Catholic Church which is slowly focusing more and more on German issues and mentality shifting away from issues related to Rome and Italy specially with the Italian separation from the HRE.
  • The Swiss Confederacy legalizes the teachings of Jagerism. Nothing else of note.
  • Chinese Empire: With the loss of the mandate (ooc thats total bs), Gong and Bao fight bitterly for the first few months of the year, until Gong decides to start attempting to fancy some Muslims by offering them positions in his administration, allowing him to slowly draw support from Gongs side, until eventually Gongs support base withers away, allowing Bao to gain the support of the growing Islamic population while maintaining his support in the norther portions, using his legacy and military genius to band the population together, striking a death blow near Hong Kong to Baos, shattering his army. With his victory, Boa is able to declare himself the new Emperor of China, and begins to work on rebuilding the country.

1524

Kappel is ejected from Burgundy and arrives in France, where he finds a more receptive audience.

The Caliphate conquers the westernmost territories of the Gurkani Empire, making their way towards the Gulf Coast.

The Bagrationid dynasty resurfaces as Thomas Bagration proclaims himself King of All Georgia, claiming domain over the entire Caucasus region. Bagration seeks help from the Most Christians of Russia and Poland.

  • France: Continues naval expansion. More later maybe.
  • The Swiss Confederacy has had nothing of note.
  • South Australian Civilization: In Nukunu, Bakan Waku begins to be fed up with all the people in his city who murmur against his rule, so he begins rounding up descenters and throwing them in the catacombs with the Yaramayhawho, where they are bitten and take on its form, but are still trapped underground. Eventually, Mawakurra stands up against the Bakan, saying his genius was never intended to be used this way, so Waku has him thrown in as well. Carefully and cautiously, Mawakurra crept through the haunting halls of the inner catacombs, being acutely aware of both the traps he himself set, and the ever-present Yaramayhawhos who lurk for human flesh. Eventually, he found a passage he prepared earlier that allowed him to finally escape. Road systems are developed all across the Adeleid valley. Ngarrindjeri begins forging swords out of iron.
  • Korea sends royal envoys to General Gong, seeking to establish a pact in order to crush Ming royalists within northern China (MOD RESPONSE). Meanwhile, Kim Taehyung launches an invasion of Manchuria, sending in fifty thousand troops to retake what was once Korean lands. The Korean minority that remained after the ousting of Korean acting as a fifth column. Production of gunpowder weaponry (e.g., Korean cannon, wheel-lock rifles, hwacha) increases under new yangban-owned firms known as chaebol. • Chinese Empire: Emperor Bao orders troops into Manchuria to defend against the Korea invasion, demanding Korea withdrawl immediatley or face punishment for there actions.
  • Bulgarian Empire: With the close of the eastern war, and the return of the legions, the Bulgarian legions unable to allow the growing numbers of greeks from continuing their seizure of southern Greece are marched in. The 11,000 Moldavian auxiliary troops are posted alongside the Bulgarian Legion and the invasion of Southern Greece begins. The invasion starts with the push into the first city of Larissa. With a population of about 40,000 it is one of the largest remaining majority greek cities in the Empire. Unwilling to see horror come to Larissa the city council opens the city and lets the Bulgarian legions sweep through and hit the revolting greeks. The Revolt while large is extremely decentralized and is split between the general populace revolting in the cities, and a much smaller more manageable core army which has been stable and posted up near Athens. This however is likened more to a siege as Athens having been separated from Greece for so long has not taken part in the revolt, and has kept the revolters at bay with the promise of their joining. This is however unfounded as the Legions led by Tsar Boris, and his father Simeon engage the rebel army outside Athens. Almost half of the rebel army is wiped out here but in a show of peace and diplomacy an offer is sent to the religious leaders of this Greek revolt looking to end it in favor of bringing the greeks to the Orthodoxy council brought about the Tsar who is finally addressing the issue of Orthodoxy vs Catholic primacy in the Empire (mod, please) With the attempted diplomacy sent to the greeks the empire itself is able to focus more along its core territories and it's now more densely populated northern province of Vlach. The Bulgarian population in the area is known to be roughly half of the Vlach population of the area, with a sizeable amount being of the mixed Bulgar-Vlach race. The Empire despite its revolt sees positive population growth in Thrace, Macedonia, the Core Bulgaria, and Vlach. The Polish and Russian monarchs and religious heads are invited to Tarnovo to discuss the religious issues facing the Eastern rite. (mod)

  • Mayapan: Trade continues with the Mexica and the Iberian colonies. Royal engineers continue experimenting making larger fishing vessels. Construction on the new school in the capital continues. Expansion continues along the southern border. Integration of the southern city-states into the League is continued by the High Council. Each new state is expected to supply men to train and serve in the national army. The council seeks to improve commerce and communication between the many settlements of the Yucatan by constructing and maintaining roads between them. Work continues to renovate and update existing buildings and roads, and to create plans for future upkeep and renovations.
  • Papal States: The bishops in attendance at the Council of Cologne continue to discuss the issues threatening the Church. The majority of the Latin-Rite bishops now accept Jaeger's governance proposals. [OOC: Scraw, Nk, other interested parties: please comment for your respective parties on the Council page]. The Immaculata continue to grow in numbers, and they send missions to Burgundy, France, and the British Isles to combat heresies. The States' military is improved.
  • Kingdom of England and Ireland: Another one hundred people land at Fort Bowen to add to the labour force at the new colony as they clear land for farming and trade with native while Avalon remains with with the same population while it skirmishes with the natives of Stadacona and Lieutenant Governor Robes request troop reinforcements from England to launch a preemptive strikes on the natives. In England everything remains stable while the King remains in England and the missions from the Papal state are while accepted with some reluctance as they claim to be going after heretics which is the job of the King.
We also send emissaries to Georgia, and promise to try our best to liberate them and aid them, though we ask that the accept vassalage from us in exchange for independence, and internal autonomy. (Mod Response)
    • Thomas Bagration, King of All Georgia, is seeking independence and asks for Russian help. He agrees to become a vassal of Tsar Alexis if the Russians protect his kingdom. -scraw
    • The Poles send limited aid to the Gurkani War and they mostly focus on consolidating the Alliance's gains in the Astrakhan.
  • Chinese Empire: The new dynasty, now firmly established, declares that the Manchu will stay free of Korean rule, sending 200,000 soldiers into Manchuria to rebuff the Korean invasion. Islam continues to grow, and thanks to the great effect Islam had on his victory, the Emperor orders the construction of a Mosque in Beijing in order to keep with his promises to the group. Mosques begin construction in major cities along the coast and the interior, making the Islamic population start feeling more content with the Empire as a whole, and some even begin enlisting in the military.

1525

The Manchus return to Chinese favor under the new emperor from the Bao dynasty.

With the Gurkani Army returning home, Central Asia reasserts its independence under Tsetseg Khan's nephew and chosen viceroy. Although he lacks the military prowess of his uncle, the new Khan is able to unite his people and begins rebuilding the nation.

An-Najm continues his great war in Persia, arriving at Tehran and laying siege to it unless the Sultan agrees to surrender land to An-Najm and his Ottoman allies.

At Cologne, Jager expresses that he is willing to cooperate with the Pope, but Kappel sends a representative of his own who is calling for a complete and total break with Rome. Many of Jager's supporters join the representative of Kappel.

Meanwhile in France, Kappel's teachings are becoming very popular.

King James II of Scotland seeks out an alliance with the French.

The Polish propose a division plan with Russia for the now completely subdued Astrakhan. Poland wants the south and will let Russia have the north.

Jager continues to spread his message in Scandinavia and disassociates himself with Kappel.

Thomas Bagration riles up the people of Caucasus and raises a large army for his rebellion.

  • Kingdom of Burgundy: with it becoming settled into the Indian markets, the Burgundian East India Company begins pushing into the East Indies, looking to establish trading posts in Majapahit (mod response please). Meanwhile, the area of the southeast coast of Arcadia is explored, and a natural harbor (OTL Charleston) is discovered and claimed as New Flanders. Around the same time, the Burgundian West India Company establishes its first post on mainland Lauwentia, named Robertstad (OTL Georgetown, Guyana).
  • South Australian Civilizatoin: A brave warrior traveled from Kaurna to Nukunu, seeking a way to sell his iron for wealth. In Nukunu, he freely chatred with the local people on politics, being used to the laws and statues of Kaurna that protected the rights of individual people. Instead, he was shocked to find Bakan Waku enraged by this talk, and ordered the brave warrior thrown into the catacombs, where he would surely be killed. Instead, however, he utilized a magic threat taken from his grandmother, to keep track of his movements in the maze, and along the way he would carefully outwit and slay each and every one of the Yaramahyawho who inhabited the catacombes. Meanwhile, the road system has spread over all the Adeleid valley, and began spreading to nearby regions as well.
  • Papal States: In Cologne, the pro-compromise, conciliarist-leaning faction of bishops gains the upper hand amongst the Latins, and puts forward a proposal  for Church government which they believe will be acceptable to the Eastern and Northern Rites. With Jaeger saying he will cooperate, it is hoped that he will accept the governance compromise in return for accepting the doctrine of the Sacraments, so that the Latins and the Jaeger faction of the Northern Rite can join forces to crush the radical Kappelites. Both Easterns and Northerners are encouraged to put forward proposals or amendments. The Pope sends a letter to England, assuring the King in the strongest terms that the Immaculata [the ttl Jesuits] are not 'going after heretics' in any way that interferes with the King's royal prerogative to deal with that reprehensible crime, but instead are opposing heresy by preaching the solid orthodox faith in universities and generally around the place.
  •  Emirate of the Ottomans:  Suleiman begins to work on modernizing the army and amassing the people to a more Pro-War type people, the slaves from africa are given freedom (seeing I can't make a deal to free them) they are sent to mosques and cities to work on improving things. The amount of Turks that drift to the Gurkani state begins to stall and people begin to slowly leave the idea. A Grand Mosque is made named the "Mosque of the north". Artist and like-minded people across the nation are sent to Ankara to help the state. Traders are sent to sent to Syria to trade and gain recruits for new units. The weapons from the Gurkani state are put to use and are looked at to work on producing more. A book named "the window into the human body" is made after research was made on the human body. Suleiman begins to work on a mixed military. Suleiman stands with the Caliphate and invades the Gurkani state leading 150,000 troops rushing  and then moving  while other troops rush into Mosul while 85,000 stay at home and the ottoman army spec ops the black jannris (with a mix of Arabs) are also sent in. Slaves will gain freedom if they join the army and slaves join in the masees. The troops in Georiga leave the Causcus region moving into Tabriz and lay seigh to the city while the city of mosul also meet up to lay seigh.
  • Kingdom of England and Scotland: The regent Henry second uncle to King makes his conversion to the northern rite as his cousin and her son the King are both of northern rite. A few other ministers make the transition to northern rite although currently almost the entire country is Latin rite though amongst some low level religious people feel that the church has become to organised especially in relation to Rome and with the loss of Scotland a growing feeling of English nationalism occurs in some ways as some priests feel that the bible should be in English the services in English and that vast revenues should not go to the Pope or the higher up catholic feeling that there are some parallels to the Northern rite in their beliefs. In New Gwynedd no new people are moved to the colony while friction continues to occur but it still minor as the colonists grow food and trade with the natives for western items and survive in the good climate and soil. In Avalon tensions reach breaking point over land and rights to farm and hunt so the current colonists all meet in the main settlement and agree that even without the support of a crown that they need to push the natives back. Lieutenant Governor Robes doesn't want to take any more people without resolving the issue of the natives holding onto their land first. The colonists first try an unorthodox tactic and while trading with natives smear the clothing and bedding they are giving the natives in small pox pus and hope the natives struggle with it (Mod response required). In England everything remains calm with the completion of the reorganisation of the military and the country settles down while ignoring the religious debate within the country.
    • The natives begin to be struck down in large numbers by the smallpoz virus, against which they have no immunity. ~Cal
  • Norway: Within norway in a time of tumult a new archbishop rises. Cousin of the Queen, Magnus Gyldenlove has been criticized on his rise, but years of tutelage under one of the most finest theologians in all of Christendom has sharpened his mind. When News reaches him of the Council of Cologne he is outraged. By the end of the year he publishes the religious manuscript "Pater est Infitus", which calls the pope out on as being a heretic for bowing his head to Infidels and accepting their demands. Within the book it states "The Bishop of Rome cares not for the souls of Christians but rather for his power as head of Christendom. As such he is willing to lead us into sin simply for his power". It calls for overturn of the Council of Cologne, Dissolution of the Rites, Elimination of the Adelphinian Reforms, Restricting the Pope's power into simply a spiritual teacher, removal of the inquisitions, and finally removal of religious Teethes. The Movement spreads among the nobles due to them feeling the Immaculta is restricting their freedom and impending on them. It begins to catch fire among the lower classes after an Innocent woman is beaten to death by a catholic mob after preaching such.
    • Look I know I very much have a stake in this, but I'm not sure how much of this makes sense. Who are these infidels the Pope is bowing to? If you're talking about the Easterners, then the Pope has agreed to limit his own power. And what on earth do you mean by dissolution of the Rites? You want to eliminate the Adelphinian Reforms...which have cracked down on corruption??? And how are the Immaculata (the TTL Jesuits) "restricting their freedom and impeding on them"? Can someone else take a look at this? ~Cal
    • Papal States: The Archbishop is invited to the Council of Cologne , since it is an Ecumenical Council of the bishops of the entire Church
    • Find a more reasonable reason to justify your break with Rome. Perhaps embrace Kappel. -scraw
  • The Swiss Confederacy has officially made Jagerism and Catholicism the two major legal religions. Nothing else of note.
  • Chinese Empire: The Korean invasion of Manchuria is destroyed, and Manchurian independance is safe for another day. Troops are permanently stationed on the border afterwards, and funds are allocated to build a massive wall on the border Korea to stop another invasion from occuring again. China once again begins ignoring Korea, throwing out any Korean diplomats into the Yalu river naked and without any clothing. Imperial troops are once again patrolling the region, and the navy begins to start attacking any and all Korean shipping that comes within their range. Talks begin on whether or not to invade Korea itself, but the Emperor advises torwards keeping them boxed in with the already increased military presence on the Manchu-Korean border. 150,000 troops are sent into Mongolia to secure the region and supress any lingering raiders.
  • Augsburg: Spice trading continues. Anton Fugger, Count Fugger and Count of Augsburg request to marry a Hohenzollern prinncess. (MOD RESPONSE)

1526

Kappel becomes more popular in France. Kappelian ideas also spread to Switzerland.

Thomas Bagration has achieved independence for the people of the Caucasus and is crowned, confirming his title and power as King of All Georgia.

After the Gurkani army returns, they fight a giant battle with An-Najm. It is a pyrrhic victory for the Egyptians and the battle forces to the two sides to come to the negotiating table.

In Delhi, the various Hindu armies unite behind a single leader who establishes his control. He reaches out to the Bahmanid and Bengal, telling them that he does not bear them ill will and reminds them that he is not Tsetseg Khan.

Meanwhile, Tsetseg's nephew continues the restoration of his uncle's borders in Central Asia, delegating much of the reconquest war to his brother.

  • Kingdom of Burgundy: the Robertstad colony (OTL Georgetown, Guyana) begins receiving new colonists. Burgundian trading ships become more prevelant in the East Indies and Majapahit is asked to allow the establishment of Burgundian East India Company trading posts within their lands (mod response please). In domestic matters, King Robert III strikes a conciliatory tone with the Kappelists, hoping to alleviate the likelihood of bloodshed. Meanwhile, Robert III declares that the "Indians of the West and South" are forbidden from being taken as slaves by the Burgundian colonists. The lands of southern Lauwentia (OTL Patagonia) are claimed for Burgundy as "Patagonië". Iberia is once again offered to divide the islands of the OTL Caribbean by the Windward Passage, the islands west of it to be claimed by Burgundy, the islands east to be claimed by Iberia (mod response please since idk where Wiki is).

  • South Australian Civilization: Cities continue to grow in size and influence. A number system begins to be developed in Kaurna. Art and (oral) history flourishes in Ngarrindjeri. Road systems connect Noongar with Adeleid Valley. The total population of Southern Australia is 1.3 million.
  • Bulgarian Empire: The Bulgarian Tsar is forced to concede somewhat in negotiations with the Greeks as their belief in the primacy of the Eastern rite of Christianity has gained a significant following. The Revolt while over, has led to a religious proclamation in the empire by the Ecumenical Patriatch, now more commonly known as the Great Patriarch, with his residency being established in a new Patriarchal palace just beside the great Hagia Sophia. He declares that due to the Popes insistence in his Primacy over all of Christendom rather then Equality then the Eastern Rite has no choice but to once again be free. The Tsar unable to challenge the thoughts of the majority of his people, released any captured greek religious rebels, but goes to great lengths to root out and actual seperatists. The population loss in the Revolt is nearly 50,000 between Greeks, Serbs, Bulgarians, and Albanians and sees vast swathes of the Greek territories laid barren by the marching armies of the Legion. The Bulgarian forces now with not only the eastern campaign under their belt but a full scale revolt as well turn their attention towards fortifying the countries borders as some potential backlash for the nations religious choices could be in the countries future. Outside of this the Bulgarian Tsar Boris also invests heavily in the rebuilding of Greece hoping to link the rugged Greek provinces with the rest of the Empire. With the Core Regions of the empire now linked by major roads to the new and old cities in Macedonia and Thrace, and also linked in a lesser fashion in Vlach, the Tsar deems it necessary to build Roads to connect to Larissa, Sparta, and Athens hoping to more easily subdue Greece if its infrastructure is built up for the Army and Aristrocracy to use. The Bulgarian population just following the rebellion stands at 5 million roughly again as its relative decrease due to the Greek uprising has been made apparent. The Bulgarian settlement into greece is somewhat stunted as only Thessograd and Sparta see any immigration. However the emptying of the Greek countryside sees an interesting immigration of nearly 2000 Vlach-Bulgars, settling into the rugged mountains and some of the more fertile coastal plains. These Vlach-Bulgars are noted to speak a majority Bulgarian with some Romanian inflection into the language. The Bulgarian Tsar, the Great Patriarch and Cardinals of the Empire are brought into a council. Poland and Russia are invited to this religious council to discuss the potential of bringing Poland into the fold, and Reunifying Russia with the Orthodox Church.
    • Just as an aside, even OTL the Orthodox believe the Pope has Primacy, as the Protos. The proposal in the Council is calling precisely for equality between the Rites, whilst limiting the universal power of the pope. ~Cal [in my personal capacity].
  • Portugal: With Portugal's independence restored, King Manuel begins promoting Portugal's cultural identity. While similar to their Spanish neighbors, the people of Portugal are a distinct group. Manuel wishes to create a distinction between Iberian and Portuguese. Celebrations of independence take place in many urban areas. The new colony below Panama, named Nova Lusitânia, is promoted heavily during these celebrations. The Portuguese Crown Merchant Company is established this year. Portugal does wish to retain some form of alliance/partnership with Great Iberia, in addition to reaffirming any relationships it had with nations prior to its conquest by Iberia.
  • Papal States: The Council of Cologne continues. The schism of the Ecumenical Patriarch is met with utter shock by the Council, which had put forward a proposal which seemed to be acceptable to all. The Council continues to cooperate closely with Jaeger. The Immaculata continue to gain numbers and many are sent to France to combat the inroads made by the Kappelist heresy. In other news, Portugal is given full official recognition.
  • Cologne: The Council of Cologne continues, with the chances at peace seemingly becoming smaller by the day, despite some serious concessions on the Pope’s behalf in 1525. Archbishop Rhoderich cannot believe this, and steps up his approach to peace. Immanuel Volk’s teachings continue to spread amongst the reasonable people of Southern Germany/HRE. Archbishop Rhoderich writes to Switzerland, imploring the moderate Jaegerians in power (obviously having legalised the religion) to band together with Catholics and stop the spread of Kappel’s clearly heretical ideas. He also writes to France, asking France to arrest the heretic Kappel in order to send him to the Council of Cologne under the same protections as Jaeger (he will not be harmed) so that all Christians can discuss these ideas as men, not as monsters.
    • Essen: Abbess Meina hears of the conversions in the Kingdom of England and offers to send canonesses to translate an English Bible, and create seminaries in England training priests in English. She takes issue with the idea that “vast revenues go to the Pope” and implores the King of England to pay attention to the many measures against corruption that have been taken by the Pope in the previous 126 years, most of which are chronicled in the Adelphinian Reforms. For example, indulgences are no longer sold, and no money can be made from them. If His Highness has any further issues with the Church, Abbess Meina heartily invites him to the Council of Cologne to make his opinions known. Further, Abbess Meina takes great offence at Norway’s call for the elimination of Adelphinian Reforms – Magnus Gyldenlove is quite clearly somewhat deluded, because he calls the Pope a heretic for accepting the demands of moderate Hussites and others, then calls for a restriction of the Pope’s power. Surely if Norway was serious about this, they would not also call for restricting the Pope’s power because that is in fact the very thing he has “heretically” been doing.
      • Scandinavian Imperial Diplomacy: While we apologize for the bold statements of the Norwegian king, we will not take an insult to the face by Essen. We warn Essen to lay down and stop attacking our ally.
  • Emirate of the Ottomans:  Suleiman begins to work on modernizing the army and amassing the people to a more Pro-War type people, the slaves from africa are given freedom (seeing I can't make a deal to free them) they are sent to mosques and cities to work on improving things.  Suleiman renames the state to an Emirate (but it's just a name change a nothing happens).  Suleiman is seen as a strong man as he begins to work on the nation's military might. With the victory of the Caliphate and peace talks now openning up 40,000 troops are sent to Baku (which Scraw said I own) to keep order.
  • Sweden: Kappel's ideas are spread and accepted by the Swedish government. Why must one person wield the power of God? We begin spreading Kappel's ideas.
  • Brandenburg-Luxembourg: Otto the Elder passes away upon his return to Berlin much to the grief of his family and to the grief of his nation. His Grandson an even biffer supporter of the reformists within the Northern Rite then his father assumes power and while still trying to keep the peace with the pope and in the hope of securing the imperial title left by his Grandfather tries to mediate amongst the various religious factions ranging from the Jager loyalists within the Northern Rite who are willing to compromise to the Kappelists who desire outright seperation from the Pope with most of the nobility and Fredrich himself leaning more towards the Kappelian ideals since they wish to increase their own power base in rejection of the amount of power the church has in his domains. Despite his sympathies and likely adherence to the Kappelian ideals he puts on the face of a devote Catholic and requests to see the pope in Rome. Upon taking complete control of his family's domain in name as well as fact he formally unites the administration of Brandenburg and Prussia along with Lorraine and Luxembourg ending the period of generational rule. He proclaims his son Fredrich-Wilhelm the king of England as his heir and begins pursuing a policy of slowly integrating the diverse domains and holdings into a single cohesive administration bringing around the culmination of his ancestor's policies of centralization and subordination of the feudal lords to his command. Furthermore Freidrich sends a secret letter to his son and his wife in England to request the young king formally establish an alliance between Brandenburg and England aswell as to request that the young King trust only his immidiate family and close advisors and not to be swayed by those who might seek to undermine the royal rule and to not forget his German roots. Freidrich passes a royal edict proclaiming that the Brandenburg domains shall be undivisble and shall only be passed to male members of the House of Brandenburg-Prussia (his branch) fully enforcing Salic Law upon thel ands under his rule. This new trend of cultural flourishing starts to influence the direction of the Reformed Catholic Church which is slowly focusing more and more on German issues and mentality shifting away from issues related to Rome and Italy specially with the Italian separation from the HRE. Freidrich begins granting subsedies to the growing fire arms industry developing in Silesia and in Luxembourg and Lorraine. Freidrich calls upon the Scandinavian Emperor to come to Berlin to discuss a treaty to resolve the Holstein issue as it remains under Brandenburg occupation and to fullfill the promise of succession for Brandenburgian support in the war of the gylden throne. He also invites the King of Bohemia to come to Berlin to put an end to the rivalry that has existed between Brandenburg and Bohemia for over a century and to bury the hatchet of the War of the Lions (mod response please).
    • The King of Bohemia agrees to a meeting.
    • Brandenburg Dip: Freidrich delighted at hearing this proposes that the meeting take place next year.
    • We agree.
  • The Swiss Confederacy is bewildered on what to do with the three ideals that have emerged in a few years. As of now, Kappelianism is legal is the western cantons, while in the northeastern cantons, Jagerism is major. The dominant religion is still Roman Catholicism and that will be the largest for the time being. In this point, Switzerland is now an area for major religious freedom, with only few exceptions like paganist beliefs, being outlawed. The Confederacy is requesting trade to France as well as a mutual alliance.
  • Maasai: A charismatic leader, Kiserian, is uniting several tribes under the God that gave the people cattle, Enkai. Meanwhile, Nkasiogi, a brutal chief, is working on securing alliances with other Maasai communities in opposition to Kiserian. Esiankiki, caught between the chaos and war, has found a true lover, Laukenua. Both leaders promise their people plenty of Cattle. Wealth is a new concept beginning to be measured by the amount of cattle one person has. This is taking place in OTL Great Rift Valley, Ugandan Tanzanian Border.
  • Teutons:We start accepting germanic immigrants all over northern europe and we will accept refugees of war of all non islamic states and we start taking grounds of small churches that are in bad state
  • Kingdom of England and Ireland: The King formally offers Brandenburg an alliance as the King of Brandenburg is now his father. Kappelian ideas experience a bit popularity as a number of one writer having met Kappel in France suggests that the Bishops of England should form a religious council though many still disagree with these ideas as they believe in the primacy of the Pope. Many people are appeased with the translation of the bible into English keeping them calm while a few more of the King's minister convert to northern rite to support the young King and his devout religious views. In the penal colony of Avalon as smallpox breaks out amongst the natives and death tolls are massive the settlers push inland taking historically native land and expanding their colony southwards to have more farming land as the colonists settle in. In New Gwynedd another 100 people arrive at the colony and move into farming space inland chopping down the trees to clear land and trying to maintain civil with the natives. In England the universities continue to become places of learning as more people continue to go to universities, Cambridge suggests to the university of Berlin that they do student and teacher exchanges to enrich both universities with knowledge while Oxford suggests the same with the university of Bologna (MOD response for Bologna).
    • Brandenburg Dip: Fredrich agrees and proposes the same deal for Luxembourg, and Breslau Universities which have specializations in the technical arts.
    • The Bolognese are very supportiev of such an idea. -scraw
  • Maximillian of Austria-Bavaria, upon hearing of Emperor Otto's death, spends no time promoting himself to the Electors of the Empire. He campaigns on a platform of returning the Italian provinces to the Holy Roman Empire, and "making the empire whole again", opposing French influence, holding an immediate Imperial Diet to determing religious rights within the empire and of various Catholic and Kappelist states. He especially sends letters to the various electors, soliciting their votes, noting the previous house of Brandenburg's inaction during the entire Italian ordeal, and the non-opposition of the french invsaion of savoy, what was meant to be the buffer between Milan and France. In any case, the city of Vienna grows as an urban center, but is nowhere near the vibrance of Munich. Due in part to its establishment as a center of venetian trade, the city of Munich attract many traders as the local economy begins to grown, becoming a center of trade in Germany, one of the great meeting places of northern and mediterranean goods. Such breeds economic competition, and as such, this economic competitions increases demand for more and better technologies, attracting more and more engineers, scientists and the like. However, these great thinkers do not have a central place of learning as of yet, and as such, after much pressure, and a gracious donation of land and property by a local noble increadibly interested in Natural Philosophy, Maximillian charters the creation of Abbensburg University, and assigns the current head of the house, Gustav von Abbensburg, as president of the institution. This comes as no surprise, as Gustav has in recent years been couring more and more natural philosophers, alchemists, theologians, painters and all around renaissance men, and has in the past convinced them to teach private classes to groups of students. this is simply the next evolution, and after some proffessors form the university of Vienna (UoV) are..."encouraged" to switch over to Abbensburg University, this causes the south German city to become quite the focus of inteligencia. Abbensburg University and the UoV recieve generous endownments this year, courtesy of success in the Mines of Tyrol. Meanhwile, Maximillian's military reforms continue. The Archducal Guard, following years of reform, can no longer be considered as a simple mercenary force, but a good, right, professional army. Centralization continues, as each of the captians is examined and re-examined. Over the last twenty years, the less competnatn commanders were...well...dissapeared and duly replaced with better alternatives carrying comissions, an official document denoting rank. A new Table of Ranks is introduced for the Archducal and Hungarina Royal Guard, upon Maximillian's Authority as Lord Captain-General. Meanwhile, The forces are armed with alomst a third of the forces carrying some sort of firearm. A special set of units, the "axeshots", begin experimenting with a new technique, carrying a poleaxe alongside a firearm, with the poleaxe containing a special "hook" on the side which is large enough to place the musket in order to steady the firearm. Only about one thousand such trained men are currently in the force, however one third carries firearms, and of those one half carry wheel lock muskets. Modernization continues on the winds of change, and preparation for war.
  • Teutons:We loosen our relations with the church and begin taxing 0,01% of their income to increase our economy we also won't punish the reformation but they will have to pay same taxes as the catholic churches . We also want more germanic setlers to setle our rural areas of our nation we also ask all nations to help us make a Harbour and Naval base in Riga to boost our float
    • Venetian traders increase their presence in Munich and Vienna, but Munich especially, it being one of the largest and most important cities in south Germany, but more imporrtnatnly because of the lack of mountians needed to traverse in order to get to the place. Form there, they begin spreading their ideas, mediterranean and Italian products, paintings, and the ever so interesting idea of banknotes, making banking across long distances even easier(so long as both cities in question contain branches of the same bank). Meanwhile, the Collapse of the compact of Iskedrun provides an incredible oportunity. venetian traders establish outposts in the middle east, and many aim for edessa. On the other hand, the Doge and his council officialy announce that "if there will be another trade compact on the east coast of the mediterranean, it will include the great state of Veneto". As such, they officialy plan on taking an interesting role in that area of the world, especially for money. Meanhwile, trade in Germany attracts a more competitive economic and technological scene everywhere where the venetians have trade hubs, including Vienna and Belgrade, but most esepcially in Munich.

1527

English Kappelian supporters are attacked by their strongly Catholic neighbors.

  • Augsburg: Anton Graf Fugger von Augsburg requests to marry a Hohenzollern princess. (Mod Response)
  • South Australian Civilization: Bakan Djalu II died this year.
  • Cologne: Both Archbishop Rhoderich of Cologne and Abbess Meina of Essen express their strongest disapproval of the fighting taking place between Catholics and Kappelites in England and send a letter to all their Christian neighouring countries to express the importance of ensuring that as few lives are lost as possible. This is needless slaughter; regardless of one’s specific Christian beliefs, surely it is immoral to kill your fellow man! Archbishop Rhoderich writes to Sweden, personally asking the Swedish government to send bishops to the Council of Cologne to discuss this peacefully, before further lives are lost. Further, he writes to Cologne’s ally Brandenburg with much concern for the potential lives that could be lost in this growing period of religious dissent.
    • Essen: Abbess Meina apologises for any insult that may have been caused to Norway/Scandinavia, but politely reminds all of Scandinavia that Essen has been one of the biggest advocates of peace, hosting the very Council of Cologne at which these kinds of ideas can be shared. Abbess Meina notes that no Scandinavian bishops have attended the Council and heartily invites them to join the peace talks. Finally, Abbess Meina sends an envoy to the Kingdom of England, thanking the King for taking in the canonesses and being open to compromise and cooperation. Meina also reminds the King of England that the Northern Rite already has its own council of Bishops, and wonders about England’s stance on whether it intends to create a new council specifically for England? If so, Abbess Meina offers to assist in talks with the Pope, who has been very reasonable with granting autonomy to different factions per se, and embracing/reconciling differing ideas. In this respect, Abbess Meina again suggests that the Bishops of England come to the Council of Cologne to speak with the other bishops from all of Christendom and resolve these issues before more lives are lost.
  • Maasai: Kiserian creates a camp to lure Nkasiogi into launching an attack on the camp. Little does Kiserian know, the brutal opponent has decided to copy the strategy. The two armies continue this standoff, fighting a war of attrition. Now with many people living in the camps, they are forced to try something new. They have to grow their own food! Esiankiki live in a village outside of the camp, formally under Kiserian’s control. He continues his romance with Laukenua. Both leaders claim to be the true followers of Enkai, and they continue to wait for the other side to strike. Little do they know, neither of the leaders plan on striking...
  • Portugal: Manuel I visits Rome this year, wishing to draw Portugal closer into its sphere of influence. In the meantime, several dignitaries are sent to various nations around Europe, including France, England, Venice, Austria-Bavaria, and Italy. They wish to open up broader trade agreements, if not closer diplomatic relations in general, with these European natives. His daughter Andrea is offered to a nation wishing for an alliance with Portugal. In the meantime, the military of Portugal sees extensive rennovation. The navy especially is bolstered, several ships being rolled out and sent to the Atlantic fleets. New weapons make their way to the military, including firearms, cannons, and swords. In economic news, Portugal offers trade deals with any who are interested, including Spain, the Caliphate, the Ottoman Empire, and Italy. Lisbon sees much prosperity this year, the recent independence of Portugal stimulating the market. Lastly, Portugal requests to purchase the Azores from Burgundy, citing its historic and cultural significance to Portugal.
    • Nova Lusitânia: The settlement of Balboa Rocha (Balboa Rock) sees a new shipment of passengers from the Old World. In addition, relations with the native tribes go well. The area is home to several indigenous tribes, most notably the Caverna tribe (OTL Cueva tribe. Cueva translates to 'cave' in Spanish, as does Caverna in Portuguese.) However, the settlers notice a mass die-off of natives in the area. The colony wishes to trade with the tribes in both OTL Mexico and Peru.
  • Kingdom of England and Ireland: After Kappelian ideas fail to take hold on mass many of the Kappel supporters keep quiet rather than be attacked so most remain Catholic although as the Bible is in English and many religious ceremonies are done in English religion in England is changing. With both Oxford and Cambridge gaining knowledge from Germany and Italy this greatly helps their growth as national centres of learning. Continued royal funding leads to a larger educated population but also the increased hiring of scholars with Cambridge making inroads into astronomy while Oxford into medicine and the human anatomy. The King creates travelling schools which consist of a single scholar travel from village to village every year or so teaching people to read and write the Bible in English. The situation in the colony remains the same while the Avalon settlers push inland as the natives are killed by the smallpox virus. The King continues his education and talk of him returning home to Brandenburg is discussed as the Regent continues to handle the situation well. Trade grows through the silk road and Gurkani to bring back rare items from the far east.
