Meanwhile, a guild of artisans in Antioch begin producing painted works of animals in nature, which is a kind of art not seen in the history of the Muslim world. In this year, the great philosopher Ibn Yakub dies in prison. Al-Najm is reported to have said "I would gladly have lost twenty ships than lose this great scholar". All the people of Damascus mourn his passing, as well as many people surrounding in Syria and Mesopotamia. His immediate disciples, however, quickly gather back to Jamnia and conclude to keep teaching his doctrines on Humanism and Islam throughout Syria anyway. The conservatives of the Ulema attempt to pass a law against Humanistic philosophy, but this is blocked by the strong liberal faction. The Tsars Son Kaloyan is born early in the year in Vasiligrad quietly and is described as a strong young boy. Tsar Aleksandar and His Father go on a few weeks hunting trip in the mountains using the semi-tamed wolf pack bred from the captured wolves decades ago to help with the hunt. These wolves are noted for their more temperate and calculated behavior and the Tsar begins considering them to be heavily used in his armed forces hoping to pair them with Cavalry to act as a helpful recon component to the army as well as an extremely potent tool of shock warfare seeing as it would be terrifying to bring wolves into warfare. The Bulgarian population grows to roughly 6.16 million as growth in all the provinces showcases the extremely positive living that can be offered in the Empire. Its estimated that some of the prominent terrace farms and Wallachian farms in general are producing enough food to provide nearly free grain or subsidized to a good portion of the empire which is hoped to allow for a more prominent focus on breaking the remainder of the Feudalistic molds in Bulgaria. This is seen as an extreme blessing for the serfs and freemen of the Empire as in many cases the Tsar is able to personally free serfs who are able to move beyond their original farming livelihoods and pushing into more profitable ventures. Ironically the more prominent freemen, specifically merchants and former soldiers are all in the practice of gaining land which heavily splits many of the old feudal realms and gives land to a much more empowered freemen class who are more keen on developing their lands. While land is tantalizing many of the soldiers prefer life in the cities and take a cash payout or sell their lands in order to live a life in the cities. Tarnovo, Sofiya, and Tirgoviste are some of the most popular soldier destinations. '''The Grand Patriatch forms the Council of Patriarchs to bring a more codified and organized system to the newly split off orthodox christian world.'''

The Ming Dynasty still rules over the vast lands of China. On the other side of the world, the Hundred Years War continues between England and France. Europe is still stuck in the old ways of feudalism and chivalry while the notions of a New World are considered figments of imagination.

We welcome you to the long awaited fourth expansion of that immortal series. Welcome to Principia Moderni IV! Starting in 1400 AD, this is the dawn of the modern world and the tail end of the Middle Ages. The Renaissance is just kicking off in Europe, while the nations in the western side of the continent are locked in the last gasp of the Hundred Years War. The Muslim world is still reeling from the invasions of Turks and Mongols, with the Caliphate resting in the collapsing Mamluk Egypt and the Ottomans on the rise in Anatolia. Make it count.

The first game was the most successful on the wiki, leading all the way to the modern day with mostly plausible posts and little controversy. The second game reached almost to the modern day, but failed due to a plethora of ASB events and moderator bias. The third game was much more worthy of the first, almost running into implausibility but climbing back into a shining glory by the end. Riding on the latest reforms of map games since the end of PMIII, this is the most logical next step in that evolution. Remember above all other rules — have fun.

Banned Users

A ban from plausibility strikes lasts thirty days, afterwhich the third strike is repealed and the banned player is unbanned. However, the newly unbanned player rejoins the game with two strikes, as a form of probation.

  • Vivaporius (1490)

Plausibility Strikes

Three strikes and you're out! Each strike resets after 30 years of the most recent strike.

  • Tre - I (1516)
  • Candies - I (1533)

Moderator Strikes

These are strikes for moderators and how they moderate. The same three strikes rules apply. If a moderator is banned from moderating, however, they can still play as their nation. Mod strikes can be delivered in one of three ways:

  1. If a sufficient number of players (more than half of all players voting) vote to give a moderator a strike.
  2. If I, Scraw, give them a strike.
  3. If a majority of all mods (ie more than half of the total number of mods, excluding that moderator) vote to give a moderator a strike.

Moderators can be given strikes for the following reasons:

  1. Exhibiting bias that would benefit the nation they are playing.
  2. Exhibiting bias that would negatively affect a player they have a personal dispute with.
  3. Making a ruling that contradicts a proven fact from OTL or an established fact from earlier in the game.
  4. Overruling a decision of a majority of moderators.

The Game

1540

The Choirmaster of Cologne Cathedral finds it difficult to keep children still during the Creche (Nativity) ceremony. He requests the Bishop to provide some new candy that would both keep the children occupied, and keep their focus on Jesus (hint, hint)

Another terrible winter hits the colonies in OTL New York region, killing many people

A tactfully-anonymous book titled Novo Amalgast is published in Poland, describing how the Sun is at the center of the Universe using theological arguments

Leave map requests on the talk page for the 1541 map.

  • Kingdom of Burgundy: in Nieuw Amsterdam, the winter takes its toll on the colonists. While many die from exposure, the Burgundian policy of "live and let live" allows the surviving colonists to trade for needed goods. The Colonial Guard hire themselves to the neighboring tribes as mercenaries, lending their assistance and weapons in return for food and supplies until the new convoys of settlers and supplies arrive in the spring. As mercenaries, the deal allows the sudjugation or elimination of hostile tribes, and thus the establishment of secure trade routes between Nieuw Amsterdam and the neighboring Acadians. The conflicts also allows the Guard first hand experience of the natives fighting tactics, testimony on which is sent to the West India Company forward offices in Havana, Kuba. In Europe, the French gains cause Burgundy to expand the army, and further fortify the Breton border. A new class of 56-gun galleons is laid down to strengthen Burgundys line of battle. The Burgundian West India Company sends a letter from King John II to the Iberian colonies in the West Indies, offering them incorporation into the Burgundian West Indies in light of Iberias fall, lest they be subjugated by Portugal (mod response please).
    • The eastern half of Hispaniola agrees, but the western half remains loyal to the new Iberian monarch, even if he is Portuguese ~Nate
  • Abbasid Caliphate: The Fatha Al-Farun (Canal of the Pharaohs) continues to be constructed (turn 4/18) (I really should just copy-paste this part). Humanism continues to grow faster in Syria and Iraq. Ibn Yakub makes public statements about the harmony of Islam between both Sunni and Shia, which makes him immensely popular among the common people but despised more by the conservatives in the Ulema. A romance novel in Arabic is written this year, loosely based on one of the Arabian Nights, titled Al-Nu'uman and His Sons. More plays about the life of Al-Ankhabut are produced at the House of Wisdom. Mathematics continues to be developed in Egypt, including a dissertation on the laws and mathematics of logic. The anitquarianism continues to grow among the nobility. Al-Najm opens delegation with Swahili, offering his eldest son, Amr, to be wed to some princess in Africa.
  • Swahili:  We continue our agriculture policies. The royal guards continue capturing slaves. In the heartland of Mogadishu, the Bank of Mogadishu begin cooperation with landlords to construct hydraulic devices such as canals and irrigation projects to boost food production. Areas interior to Mobassa and Malindi is colonized. We also send out conquistadors to expand northwards into more northern Somalia. We begin building plantations on Madagascar, capturing local tribesmen as slaves.
    • Swahili Diplomacy to Abbasids: We accept Abbasids offer of an alliance and sends a princess with many wares.
  • South Australian Bakhanates: The Kaurna Bakhanates are invaded by the League of Attunga, with Djarrtjunjun seizing several key Kaurna cities. He continues to groom his daughter to replace him and create the monotheistic religion centered around him. The writing system continues to develop. Attunga continues to grow. Population is over 1.8 million.
    • I believe your population is growing a bit too fast. You shouldn't be 2 million for another 20 years ~Natemod
    • Okay, I changed it to over 1.8 million. Although when I assumed control of the civilization, it was 1.7 million.
  • Papal States: Missionaries in Giapan and Mayapan continue to do their thing. The Immaculata continue to become more popular. Work continues on Gabielangelo's reconstruction of St Peter's and other Roman buildings. Duverger arrives in Rome and he begins talks with the Pope and several prominent theologians. The latter point to the decrees of the Council of Cologne, arguing that the de-centralisation of the Church should be agreeable to the Kappelites. In other news, Cardinal Strzelecki of Łodz sends the Prefect of the Roman Inquisition a copy of the  Nova Almagast. After reading it, the Prefect publishes an official Prefectural Brief condemning Nova Almagast , since its theological arguments run directly counter to the clear meaning of several parts of Scripture, as well as the universal opinion of the Church Fathers and modern theologians. However at the end of the letter, the Prefect writes that "if there were a true demonstration that the sun is at the center of the world and the earth in the third heaven, and that the sun does not circle the earth but the earth circles the sun, then one would have to proceed with great care in explaining the Scriptures that appear contrary, and say rather that we do not understand them than that what is demonstrated is false. But I will not believe that there is such a demonstration, until it is shown me."
  • Kingdom of England and Ireland: As the success of the last moving of slaves a smaller 50 groups of slaves are moved with roughly 30 surviving the journey and being sent out to work on the farms. These farms provide god profits for their owners back in London. Oxford and Cambridge contuine to compete academically.
  • Sultanate of the Ottomans: Suleiman begins to work on modernizing the army and amassing the people to a more Pro-War type people, the slaves from africa are given freedom (seeing I can't make a deal to free them) they are sent to mosques and cities to work on improving things. Suleiman is seen as a strong man as he begins to work on the nation's military might. The population begins to grow mostly around the city of Anakar and Izhimr. Suleiman begins to work on creating all black janasir units (due to them being slaves). Suleiman begins to work on a mixed military.Areas are build to open trade, while Amernians are put in office job in Armenian areas. Madrassa are made talking about unity among muslim and things like that. Gurkians weaponry is study by men at Ankara and are copied. A army is sent to Rhodes and keep the enemy troops in Ottoman prisons and working on converting them. Sunnis mosques are made in hope of slowly converting Azeris to Islam along with Persians and Armenians. the black population is thanked for their help in the war and mini black Sultan rules over majority black areas. the black population slowly rises mixing with turks. the army is updated and our Sultan begins to call for more people to follow the state which way it goes. Ankara population slowly grow. Suleeiman is named Sulieman the Great/Law giver. Suleiman begins to work on a book called "The Study of the Mind" writing about Ottoman history and how to work with other nations.
    • Islamic Emirate of Azerbaijan: the state is run by Azerbaijanis, and give out religious ruling calling for men to help trade and open up to Kurds in the areas to tighten the bond. Madrassa are made talking about unity among muslim and things like that. Christians are put in office jobs in Christian areas.Sunni Mosques are made. the Sunni Muslim population slowly grows but no a huge jump in numbers.
    • Islamic Khanate of Crimea: the tartar in the area are put in office jobs and troops are sent to train troops in the areas. Jizyah is not enforced until a certain time. Madrasses are made to work on the idea of muslim unity.  trade ships are sent and trade with the Caliphate and other nations. Sunni mosques are made but only in muslim areas.
  • Mayapan: Trade continues the Portuguese colonies. Smallpox continues to ravage the country. The Emperor orders all citizens with the disease report to Aid Camps, or else isolate themselves completely. Mayapan continues sending support to Portugal in the war agaisnt the Mexica. Catholic missions are accepted into the country, mostly as doctors for the Smallpox plague. Royal engineers begin to examine Portuguese sailing vessels and try to replicate them. Expansion continues along the southern border. Integration of the southern city-states into the League is continued by the High Council. Each new state is expected to supply men to train and serve in the national army. The council seeks to improve commerce and communication between the many settlements of the Yucatan by constructing and maintaining roads between them. Work continues to renovate and update existing buildings and roads, and to create plans for future upkeep and renovations.
  • Florence: Many of the foreign artists that came to Florence begins to work on paintings focused in the Romans and its army. The paintings made the military and students to have a "militaristic enthusiasm", that enthusiasm made the military to train more, and made students to join the military. The number of troops increased from 13.2 thousands to 15 thousands in months.
  • Russian Tsardom: Under the glorious reign of Tsar Alexis, we have triumphed over the Gurkanis and the Astrakhan and have conquered many new lands. According to a census we now have around 11 million people (5 million Russia, 4.5 former Astrakhan, 1.5 Occupied Caucasus, Scraw Confirmed). We send away the mercenaries, and give veterans plots of land in the occupied lands so they can settle down. In the occupied lands, we attempt to convert the majority Muslim populace by establishing a religious tax similar to the jizya for them while we also restrict public office to Christians in order to encourage people to convert. We also build roads, churches, schools around the Tsardom especially in the occupied areas. We begin to urge Christians in the Ottoman/Abbasid lands to move and come to the new conquered territories to tighten our control over the majority Muslim populace. We begin a plan of integrating and Christianising these occupied territories as well as modernising them. We build orphanages to take in children orphaned in the war and indoctrinate them with Russian culture and convert them to Christianity. We build poorhouses to look after the poor, convert them, and help train them to be productive. We make public laws limiting the native language and making Russian the official language. We begin indoctrinating children in schools to be loyal to Russia, the Tsar, and to become Christian. After extensively studying Gurkani technology over many years, we build an armoury to build guns and cannon while the universities boom due to an influx of new knowledge. We condemn the flood of false priests and attempt to have better communications with Vasiligrad to prevent this.
    • Kingdom of Georgia: The King Thomas of the re-established Bagration line, has liberated Georgia from the Gurkanis and now is an autonomous vassal of Russia. We start to rebuild Georgia, and copy the reforms of Russia, taxing and restricting the Muslim populace while encouraging Christian immigration from the former Gurkani Sultanate. We begin to build fortifications through the country to protect ourselves from further aggression. We build (with the help of Russia) a University in Tblisi, which is focused on learning Gurkani knowledge to advance the Kingdom and the Tsardom. We also research captured Gurkani weaponry and plan along with Russia to rearm our forces with these weapons in the years to come. We also rebuild our economy and encourage, Christians to move back to Georgia.
  • Cologne: When the Choirmaster comes to Archbishop Rhoderich for help, he is overjoyed – what a convenient surprise! He immediately sends a request to the baker in Cologne to provide some of these Dolcis Baculum, small sticks of baked sugar shaped like croziers, to the choirmaster of Cologne Cathedral. The choirmaster is thus able to give the Candy Croziers out to children to keep them quiet and occupied, whilst also reminding them of croziers that bishops like Rhoderich himself carry around all year. Meanwhile, revenue from the printing press continues to trickle in, and the hospitals and military improve.
    • Essen: Abbess Hadwig II of Essen begins the year in much celebration – she fosters a sense of companionship with all peasants in Essen, especially the young women creating daughter abbeys of the Order of St Adelphina. Meanwhile, she takes note of the burgeoning firearm industry in Brandenburg and offers Brandenburg a trade deal involving Essen’s rich resources in coal, in order to facilitate the effective development of firearms in both nations.
  • Chinese Empire: The Empire begins to enter a new age brought on by the prestige and honor of the recent conflicts. Having not only supressed rebels in the north, but expanded the Empire to the southern mountains and to the cusp of the Indian Ocean, Emperor Bao is heralded as one of the greatest Emperors in Chinese history by the nobility and even the populace. With the Empire standing proud, nationalism and a sense of national pride floods the ranks of the military, allowing for a growth of the navy and the expansion of the army. With these new growths and national pride the Emperor begins looking torwards other regions to expand the Empire and secure his dynasty for centuries. As of now he sees nothing, and decides that his name shall be written not only as a conqueror but also as an eduacator, and he orders the construction of dozens of new schools across the country as well as several universities.7 squadrons are sent to eastern Indonesia to explore the eastern oceans and map the islands. We offer Bengal an alliance.
    • Bengal accepts.
  • Holy Bulgarian Empire: While an uneventful series of years the Tsar in keeping with Tradition set by the First Tsar of the New Empire hands over the throne in all aspects to his son Aleksandar. Aleksandar is crowned Tsar of the Holy Bulgarian Empire in short order at the young age of 22 with his Father taking an advisary position to the new Tsar. Unlike Boris who suffered from challenges almost immediately to his rule as he took power, Tsar Aleksandar is left virtually unchallenged. He Re-affirms with the Polish and Russians their alliance and stake in Eastern Christianity. This is also led with the Grand Patriarch in tandem with the Tsar declaring the codification of the Polish Catholic Rights and Traditions under Eastern Orthodoxy in Order to maintain not only their loyalty but their lynchpin location for the budding Orthodox League. With the relative peace in the Empire being considered a major accomplishment by the nation the population of Bulgaria suffers a relative boom. The Population stands at nearly 6.12 million and growing more as the settled land in Greece and Vlach both add to the overall population through their settlement growth. Beyond this however the Empire has entered into a Golden Economic age as the open trade route from the east, and the plentiful reserves of Precious metals, open copper mining, iron, coal and other essential materials has turned Bulgaria from its very underdeveloped state 80 years ago to a productive and economic Powerhouse. The Capacity of goods being transported and manufactured by artisans and the like, has turned what used to be the center of Europes trade, once again into one of the largest Trade centers in Europe. Trade from Poland, Russia, The Near east, and then shipping routes has turned this area into a veritable paradise of economics as the favorable terms for merchants has turned cities like Vasiligrad, Kaloyagrad, Athens, and Corfu into hubs for the entire area. Athens in particular is noted to have begun a mass expansion of its port structures in order to accomodate the volume of trade heading through the country. The Bulgarian Empire raises its 10th legion which is clustered around the Gallipoli area as a quick reaction force for any attempt at a sea invasion.
  • Kingdom Of Bohemia: we send our Archbishop Samuel Tóth to meet with the pope and to discuss on a new Book called Regum Dominos dominantium, we commiuson a new cathedral in Prague name Jesus The Lamb Cathedral, we raise taxs and we start imporveing roads, we ask Holy Bulgarian Empire for daughter of tsar in a hand of marragie with Prince Kristof (reponced needed).
    • Prussian Dip: Freidrich offers his niece the lovely Adrianne von Brandenburg to the young prince Kristoff.
  • Prussia-Luxembourg: Freidrich continues to actively support the king of Bohemia and the Pro-Prussian faction supplying them with arms, and money to maintain power. Freidrich begins looking to the Princes to optimize the management and administration of the Empire and he proposes that a Diet be called upon. Prussia begins to place influence on the Electorate of Saxony which it helped secure the independence of during the second war of the lions. Freidrich Formally calls the Imperial Diet of 1535 to order to discuss a comprehensive restructuring of the Imperial Administration (trying out one of the imperial reforms on the page, all HRE Players please look into it and Mods please respond for npc nations when the time comes.) Freidrich continues to consolidate his centralization of power into the monarchy having successfully submitted most of the nobility to his control, and having stripped them of most of their military autonomy by integrating them into the Royal Army. He continues to promote the development of a stronger army and continues to expand the usage of firearms in his forces. The arms industry in the domains of the crown continue to grow. Investment into improved firearms begin particularly focusing on developing a cheaper and more easily used mechanism then the wheel lock to go alongide the match locks. Gun smithies start developing blure prints for potential replacements (the otl snaplock, was invented in the 1540s otl so i am developing blueprints now and will have it out in the late 1530s, ive been a major investor in gun development and was one of the earliest users of firearms in europe in large amounts this game, as one of the major hre powers, and the emperor i also have the funds to sustain large scale development of firearms and a military that uses them in large amounts). Development of early line formations also starts to improve the firing rate of the aruquebusiers. More cannons are produced. Scholars artists and scientists who have been studying in exchange with England, and Bulgaria are starting to make a major impact on the studies within the growing academic circles of Freidrich's domains, and increased funding for universities, and the education system in general grows. Freidrich continues the habit of funding the arts and sciences in the court of the Berlin Palace. Major focus is placed on Pholosophy, chemistry, engineering, theology, mathematics, biology, and astronomy. Freidrich takes an interest in the newly founded english colony in otl Buenos Aires. He also seeks to expand the economic power of Berlin in the North Sea and North Atlantic with the new port of Kiel under his authority Freidrich begins setting up an expansion of the small navy requesting expertise from English ship builders in exchange for help from Luxembourgish and Brandenburger technicians in other areas. A cultural shift away from the Italian renassaince and more into a German one continues in Berlin and other major cities developing into something along the lines of OTL Bohemian or early early modern north German architecture This is proving to become the major architectural style. Expansion of the noble estates continue allowing a greater yield in crops, and expansion of mining activities in SIlesia, Luxembourg, and Lorraine continue as well as an expansion of the arms industry, and metal smithies in general. Holsteinès port starts to undergo an upgrade as it is designated to become Prussia's second largest port and potentially largest trading hub. In Holstein the English shipwrights are put to work with building a couple of capital ships for the small prussian Navy, aswell as instructing Prussian shipbuilders on how to make more efficient and sea worthy ships.Freidrich interested in the Colony of England agrees to the Purchase. The outpost is renamed Fort Wilhelmburg, After the future King of Prussia. Freidrich grants a charter to the Wrangel family to begin exploration of the interior from the newly aquired outpost in the New World. a younger member of the Wrangel family Jozef von Wrangel Begins exploring the OTL RIo de la Plata, naming it the Neue Rhein.

1541

A number of Spanish nobles decide to pool their resources to leave Portuguese controlled Iberia for the New World. Led by the former Infante Francisco. After receiving backing from various connections across the continent, they contract Eduard van Kronk, the explorer who once served England, to ferry them to the New World and be their line of contact to Europe. This independent expediture, due to the sheer amount of wealth supporting it, succeeds, and they set sail for the New World.

A Sicilian ship is harrassed by a Muslim ship while passing through the Strait of Messina. The crews of both ships attempt to board the other ship and several men die.

Lodewijk Bonapaart, believing the mission in Giapan is successful and will survive without him, decides to use the great wealth he has amassed in his travels to sail back to Europe with his new half-Giapanois family. He wants to pursue his dream of finding the City of Gold.

With the transfer of power in part of Spanish Hispaniola, it comes to light that the Spanish were treating the natives, those that survived, quite terribly. A Burgundian priest accompanying the fleet writes to Rome, decrying the inhumane treatment of these people and says they will never accept Christ as their Lord and Savior if they are being abused like this.

  • Kingdom of Burgundy: the news of the treatment given to the natives of Hispaniola causes King John II to re-issue King Robert III's edict of 1526, prohibiting the enslavement of the natives of the New World. The return of Lodewijk Bonapaart is met with more celebration, and his Giapanese family is welcomed, with King John being especially curious about Giapan. It's not long before he earns a profound respect for the woman's intelligience. Before her husband leaves for his new voyages, she is given the opportunity to christen Burgundys newest 60-gun galleon, Graaf Bonapaart. A new wave of colonists arrive in Nieuw Amsterdam, bringing the total population to 500. In preparation for more arrivals, a secondary fort is established on the western end of Laang Eiland (Long Island). The Guyana colony expands by 25px.
  • Abbasid Caliphate: Al-Najm begins to grow old, but he still continues the construction of the Fatha Al-Farun (5/18). Amr, the son of the Caliph, marries the African princess Zahur Al-Aswed in Herekropolis, then travals to Swahili to live with her family. An informal council is held in the city of Jamnia, presided by Ibn Yakub, to bring a mutual understanding between scholars of both Sunni and Shia branches, agreeing on the subject of treating all Muslims with basic human dignity. This is seen as the last straw among the conservatives in the Ulema, and they began to plot how they could get Ibn Yakub framed for some crime. Meanwhile, one scholar in the Ulema proposes to condemn all forms of divination through astrology, in light of recent studies from Baghdad that the true study of the stars is through astronomy. A new romance is published this year, this time partly in Arabic and Coptic. It details the story of how the Ring of St. Catherine of Alexandria was lost during the Middle Ages, but recovered by a brave soldier under Saladdin. The Caliph secretly approaches some pirates to have the Sultan of Africa employ them as privateers, while publically denouncing any affiliation with piracy.
  • Kingdom Of Bohemia: we accpet prussia offer, see it will help us greatly, the first draft of Regum Dominos dominantium is done, the wedding of Kristoff and Adrianne will held at Königsberg Cathedral, we aslo ask Prussia if they want to do a joint expedition to the new world (OTL southern new jersey) lead by Sir Emil Sokoloff, a half Czech half Pole expoler, we bulid up most basic stuff, a young man from the countryside name Eli Kolar sends a letter to the Guns smith in prussia, in the letter are suggestion for a new gun which will have a rifled octogon barrel, will be be 5 feet long and made out of Cast iron and hawthorn.
  • Papal States: News arrives from the noble Burgundian priest of the absolutely deplorable and scandalous treatment of the natives in Spanish Hispaniola. After begining an investigation, questioning other priests who have visited the colonies and plantations in the New World, Pope Adrian and his Curia grows distressed at the ever-more verifiable reports of the sub-human treatment of the natives by the colonists. In response, Pope Adrian, assisted by the best theological minds of Rome and Bologna, drafts a Papal Encyclical Letter, to be distributed throughout Europe and especially through the New World. The document is promulgated on the last Sunday before Advent, and is entitled Dilexit Deus. The Encyclical declares the natives of the New World "and all other people who may later be discovered by Christians" to be true Men, with souls, and threatens with excommunication those who enslave them, take their property, or mistreat them in any way inconsistent with their dignity as Human beings created in imago Dei; even if they are not yet Christians. A copy is sent to the Hospitallers in New Rhodes, with a cover letter requesting the Grand Master to enforce observance of the document if he can. In related news, the expedition of Infante Francisco is given a blessing and several Spanish priests are sent to accompany them. With Bonapaart leaving Giapan, the Superior-General of the Immaculata sends twenty more Immaculata priests and brothers to help maintain the Giapanois mission [Mod can I have an update on the ission's progress? Any daimyo converted?]. Back in Rome Gabielangelo continues his renovations of St Peter's and the Papal residences.

We also send out conquistadors to expand northwards into more northern Somalia. We continue development of Madagascar.
  • Chinese Empire: Exploration of the south leads to the discovery of Paupu, and 2 squadrons travel along each side of the island in order to speed up mapping. 12 new squadrons are dispatched to the island, and landing parties to map the island accuratley are sent in. Wokou pirates begin to become a nuisance in the Empire, and fleets are dispatched to find there home port and destroy it, or at the very least nuetralize it. Chinese admirals are unsure of how long it will take. Expansion north of Manchuria begins in order to connect the Empirie with the Keiku. Islam begins to spread into Siam and Kuala Lumpur, brought by Chinese sailors, while at home it begins to slow down its spread.
    • Cheing Mai" With the states of Siam and Kuala Lumpur now next to the Mai, a road to the coast is now an option to bring trade and wealth into the nation, and a deal is arranged to allow for lower fines of goods enroute to the Cheing Mai going through Siam and China.
    • Siam: The nation continues to rebuild, and roads are nearing completion in order to connect the capitol with the Chinese Empire as well as Kuala Lumpur.
    • Kuala Lumpur: Rebuilding is nearing completion, having been spared a large amount of the damage from the war due to the nations geography.
  • Bengali Diplomacy: The Sultan responds to the Chinese offer and accepts, but asks that the Chinese vessels be restricted to Saptagram and Chatagon. Once port facilities are completed in the Andamans, the Sultan will welcome Chinese vessels there.
  • Florence: The military enthusiasm continues in Florence as the military increased to 25 thousand, the Duke Cosimo invests in the military increasing it to 30 thousand men in total. • Florentine Dip: A diplomat is sent to France to offer an alliance.
  • Korea: With the reapprochmenet of Sino–Korean relations well-underway, Korean yangban students are sent to Shenyang to study Chinese techniques and technology, in hopes of implementing them domestically. The Manchu–Korean border wall continues to be reinforced, but there is unrestricted access for Chinese and Manchu nationals wishing to cross into Korea. In order to incentivize conscription, the central government promises lower tax rates to those who conscript. The saeguk policy is further reinforced due to reported Japanese piracy along the Korea strait, with exceptions between the Chinese and the Manchu. With commerce with China being restored (its previous largest trading partner), precious metals and minerals are sold in lucrative Chinese markets, flooding the national treasury with revenue. To increase popularity among the peasantry, the central government lowers the tax rate slightly. Using Chinese ports, more Korean ships cross Kuala Lumpur to India, as well as reach Tondo, all for the purposes of increasing external trade. The militarization campaign (songun) continues under King Kim Jimin. Industrial complexes continue growth, with the growth of chaebol firms under yangban nobles. Production of gunpowder weaponries (e.g., the Korean cannon, wheel-lock rifles, hwacha), while the metallurgical industries are augmented with the construction of blast-furnaces. Mines spring across the northern countryside to harness northern Korea's vast mineral wealth. With Confucianism being reintroduced after decades of Buddhist promotion, a vast majority of Koreans now adhere to Confucian faith. Confucian values such as scholarship, merit, and artistry are promoted, and several academies and universities are built with many of the elite partaking in education.
  • Holy Bulgarian Empire: With the Empire continuing to emerge as a growing production powerhouse of Europe thanks its major nexus of trade and the full force of its resources starting to fully come to markets and impact the Economy, the more militarily minded Bulgarians make it an extreme priority to keep the Legions modernized, bringing the most modern firearms and cannons into the Military. The Navy as well is known to be a rather small but potent fleet consisting of roughly 180 ships but most of them are highly modern and a force to be reckoned with. With the opening of all the former patriarchal sites in the Near east the Grand Patriarch officially releases them in some capacity to begin and work on their own ministries to try and re-establish the foothold of the Christian base in the holy land and other areas. The Bulgarian settlement of areas of Greece and Vlach continue with Thrace for the most part becomming a majority bulgarian, this being claimed rather easily. The Vlachs continue their assimilation into Bulgarian culture and vice versa as the cross cultural assimilation shows on both cases as many romanian language words and phrases are starting to become much more commonplace. Tsar Aleksandar begins openly looking for a wife from the nobility of Europe.
  • Bohemia Dip: we offer the tsar our queens younger sister, Ruta who is 30 and unmarried.
  • Sultanate of Bengal: A formal alliance is made with China. In other news, the construction of the fortifications of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands will finish in 1542. The Sultan offers to help the Chinese mapping efforts of Papua. As a sign of goodwill, the Sultan also orders the building of 20 of the best Bengali ships to be sent to China as a gift. Port facilities are also constructed in the Andaman Islands. The construction will take 8 years. The Sultan also orders 100 ships to assist the Chinese in mapping Papua. The Sultan also drafts a trade compact, much like the Compact of Kolon-Thota, with the help of his advisors. It is named the Compact of Chatagon. Any nation that is in contact with Bengal can sign the compact, but there are differing tariffs for different nations.
  • OOC Bengal: Who or what owns Celyon?

1542

A Buddhist scholar in China reports that, after much meditation, he concludes the highest form of reincarnation must be a pile of mud, as from such all other life spontaneously originates (mud event)

Colonization in the New World is somewhat impeded by confusion over the Pope's encyclical. Governors of certain colonies hesitate to expand urbanization as they are unsure what can be considered "property" of the tribal natives.

Duverger, in Rome, calls for the establishment of a Gallic Rite with the same rights as the Northern Rite.

Bonapaart returns home boasting of great things in Giapan. He secures funding for another voyage to the New World to search for the city of Gold.

  • Kingdom of Burgundy: the Guyana colony expands by 25px west. In Nieuw Amsterdam, a further 150 colonists arrive from Europe, and the Massachusetts Bay Company makes plans to return to the site of the Bilzen colony in 1545. The East India Company expands its reach in the East Indies, and Burgundian convoys have become a common sight in the archipelago. Back in Europe, construction begins on fortifications around Brussels, where the States-General meets and where the royal family spend most of the year these days.
  • Cologne: Revenue from the printing press continues to trickle in, and the hospitals and military improve. This year, Archbishop Rhoderich is informed by learned physicians that his illness of the lung has returned, and recommend that he stay bed-ridden. However, Rhoderich is a stubborn man, who believes that exercise will make him well again, and sets off on a hike across the most mountainous area of Cologne. Advisers take note of his great strength in the face of great weakness. But unfortunately, when he arrives back at his place of residence near the Cologne Cathedral, he suffers a particularly strong burst of illness of the lung and passes away. There is much mourning; nevertheless, people remain encouraged by his sentiments about remaining fit and healthy. The Chapter come together to elect a new Archbishop, Aldrich von Munster. His strength lies on the battlefield, as his family were particularly careful in his youth to teach him the ways of war.
    • Essen: Abbess Hadwig orders a significant expansion of the mines over the next ten years, and sends learned men and women from the University of Essen there to survey the arrangements and ensure they are as effective as possible. Meanwhile, another daughter abbey pops up in Kolschberg, and the Order of St Adelphina starts to properly gain traction and recognition. In response, Abbess Hadwig sends a letter to His Holiness the Pope, who is still the administrative head of the Latin Rite, requesting an audience (when His Holiness has time) to speak about ways in which the Order of St Adelphina could receive Papal validation.
      • Papal Diplomacy: The Papal envoy to Cologne and Essen grants Abbess Hadwig a Papal audience in Rome next year. he advises the Reverend Mother to present His Holiness with a summary of the Rule of the Order, as well as a general description of its organisation, mission, etc. Papal condolences are also given on the death of Archbishop-Patriarch Rhoderich, and the envoy suggests that his successor will likely be elevated to the Cardinalate next year.
  • Papal States: News reaches Rome of some confusion in the New World relating to the precise meaning of 'property' and its application to tribal natives. Wishing to resolve any confusion, Pope Adrian, after consulting with advisors, theologians, and lawyers, writes a Papal brief entitled Responsum ad Dubium Concerning Certain Teachings in Dilexit Deus. The letter clarifies that "property" is to mean private property: livestock, dwellings, land used for livestock or agriculture, personal items, tools, clothes, and moneys. Such items cannot be taken, unless they be freely sold. Sovereign property, such as crown land, feudal properties, sovereign rights over towns and lands etc, can -as in Europe- be taken by conquest, however the normal moral rules of jus ad bellum and jus in bellum must apply as they would in Europe. Regarding those natives who live a tribal existence, the existence of those latter, sovereign rights will depend on the circumstances of the particular tribal group. Meanwhile, the missions in Giapan and Mayapan continue to gain converts. In Rome, a missionary, returning from several years in Giapan, writes a book entitled Life Amongst the Giapanois, which increases both public fascination in the Giapanois and public interest in supporting the conversion of the Giapanois, bringing with it a large number of donations from rich and poor alike to assist the Giapan Mission. After Duverger makes clear his desire for a Gallic Rite, his interlocutors present reasons why this should not take place. The Northern Rite was born of the particular circumstances of the Hussite movement and its subsequent rapproachment with Rome. A such the Northerners have many particularities which mark them as a distinct Rite: a simpler liturgy -in the vernacular- with emphasis on the Word of God and communion under both kinds, a lesser emphasis on certain sacraments, a distinct spirituality, and a somewhat national character. As far as the Papal representatives in discussions with Duverger are aware, the Church in France has no such peculiarities which would warrant the erection of a distinctive Gallic Rite.
    • English dip: While the Pope is a very knowledgeable individual and we are not questioning his wisdom and his right we do question the Pope's information for he has not been to the New World and all the colonists in the New World assure us that there are critical things the pope has misunderstood. The problem is the natives are not human in the same way we are, we are aware from our interactions with them that they are unintelligent as their language and civilisation is crude and they lack things such as metallurgy, horses and other proofs of intelligent thought and they are easily wiped out by simple diseases showing their weakness. As we do not allow an animal to own property and we enslave them in a manner that we train them and expect them to work for us is our treatment of the non- human inhabitants of Arcadia not the same as simply the rearing of animals. We only ask to treat them as we treat all other animals. Do we expect animals to appreciate the word of God, our one true lord and saviour, or thank us for the kindness that we show to them in feeding them and protecting them. Much as Jesus was the shepherd of man, man must be shepherd of the animals and so we must look after them even if they will never be able to interpret the word of God. The first of man was Adam and from him Eve was made and so were others bred so how does these so called 'people' in Arcadia get to there. The Spanish were the first to reach Arcadia. We suggest that they cannot be really human as how they can be descended from man and so therefore they must be animal and as God in Genesis decreed " the earth, and subdue it...  every living thing that creepeth upon the earth". So therefore God in fact wills that we subdue these animals and while not teach them the world of God as they aren't human but they are our dominion. So we should be able to treat them however we want according to Genesis.
    • Burgundian Dip: the English are suggested to change their position, as the "Indians of the West" display no traits of animals. Instead, as the winters of Nieuw Amsterdam have shown, when treated with dignity, they display the virtue of Matthew 25:35, "For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in."
    • English dip: The ability to show supposed virtue is not proof of humanity it is merely proof of conscience. Again how did these humans ends up in the New World if all humans are descended from Adam and Eve in addition we do not believe the claims about Nieuw Amersterdam as our experience with natives has been they are simple animals who can only survive and they seek never to advance in life or strive to change as humans do while like animals they just survive.
    • Papal Diplomacy: England is reprimanded for its uncharitable stance, and noble Burgundy is thanked for its defence of the Natives' humanity. In response to the English, Papal representatives argue that many natives, in fact, do indeed have agriculture and metallurgy, as well as cities and towns, such as the Maya. Furthermore, they say, an infant has no language, cannot use tools or farm, indeed is often more stupid than the dumbest of dumb animals, and yet none would doubt that an infant is a person, even before baptism. Likewise with the natives, even though some may appear primitive, their appearance and desire to know God make it clear that they are true Men. Regarding their origins, Rome cannot give an answer for certain, however there is the possibility that they could be descended from a lost tribe of Israel, or that they could have journeyed to the New World via Asia in the days after Babel, or indeed, as was the opinion of some Church fathers, that Genesis is not necessarily a literal, scientific description of the beginning and spread of mankind. [OOC: The letter is a paraphrase of an actual otl Papal document, Sublimis Dei, which didn't get much flack when it was published.]
  • Korea: With the wokou piracy threats arising once again, the navy begins patrolling the Strait of Korea once again, sending heavily armed warships to the area. The forts within the city of Busan is cemented in case of a raid. With the national treasury flowing with revenue (from profit from mineral/precious metal exports to China), many of the money is funneled into the military and economy. Under monarch Kim Jimin, militarization continues, with Korean fortifications being reinforced and arsenals being upgraded. Industrial complexes continue growth, with the expansion of chaebol firms under yangban nobles. Production of gunpowder weaponries rise, while the metallurgical industry are augmented with the construction of blast-furnaces. Using the port city of Singapore as a docking place, Korean ships arrive to the Indian subcontinent. Meanwhile more Korean ships reach Tondo and its vassals. Confucian values such as scholarship, collectivism, and merit are promoted, and academies and universities are built with many of the nobility partaking in education.
  • Chinese Empire: A large amount of Papau is now explored, and a fortress and a small settlement is established in the northeastern part of the island. While explorers remain there, several squadrons sail eastwards and land in OTL New Britain, and it is named Ming Island. 2 ships runs aground there, leading to its crews being forced to make due there and build a small settlement while using the ships lumber for homes. Expansion north of the Manchurians leads to a small amount of territory now bordering the Keiku, though the Empire continues to slowly expand northwards of it in order to create a northern port and naval base. Siam, now growing stronger and due its size, becomes a slight worry to the Emperor, and after much deliberation it is agreed to split 2 states off of Siam in order to give the large ethnicities in the south east a greater say in there own governing. The 2 new vassals will be called Cambodia and Vietnam.
  • Holy Bulgarian Empire: Tsar Aleksandar while dubious about marriage to a woman of 30-31 nonetheless agrees and hosts one of the Grandest marriage ceremonies Europe has ever seen in the city of Vasiligrad. This marriage outside of the Empire for the first time in its history into a title as pretigious as Bohemias is seen with great fanfare and from the nobility open approval as the first outside marriage has showcased how far the empire has come in terms of Prestige. The Tsar announces nearly 2 months later his wife is pregnant. Following the nearly decade and a half or more of rebuilding Greece, its become rather noticeable that the infrastructure, economy, and quality of living in the area has increased exponentially. The core of this new development in Greece is in Larissa and Athens, both becoming the economic powerhouses of Greece while the rebuilt Sparta has become the base for 2 legions and has become a bustling city within Morea. Tsar Aleksandar makes a very high profile Trip to Moldavia and personally invests a small fortune into transforming the Rural frontier of Moldavia into yet another thriving Imperial province. The capital city of the province Suceava sees the most investment as he wishes all the Provincial capitals to be on par with cities such as Sofiya and Tarnovo. It is seen as a long shot to try and rival Vasiligrad, as city of 230,000 and easily the largest city in Europe.
  • Kingdom of England and Ireland: A series of improvements and works are made to the ageing roads in England as they get old and are damaged by weather but time is spent resurfacing them to keep trade moving. While OXford and Cambridge both circulate academically through Europe. The King upon listening to the Pope's arguments for his decree agrees to the Pope's insistence and states in a Royal Proclamation that under the rules no one should enslave the natives or any people because slavery is wrong and no stealing of property as defined by the Catholic Church. The King does not state a punishment for breaking his royal proclamation nor make any individual responsible for carrying the proclamation and judgment out and due to the great distances involved and the vast complexity it is impossible for the King to verify or not verify whether it is being carried out and he expects people to do it simply as it is the will of God. While this occurs many people in the colonies take a loose view of the royal proclamation and the papal decree and another 100 slaves are moved to New Gwynedd while another 50 men and women from England and Wales are moved to help run the plantation. The Regent afer adopting his fur coat sees the spread of fur coats throughout the court of England as they become a new fashion symbol due to their expensivness and rarity with some being sent to the King and his son in Germany who is given a fur blanket because he is young. More whales move to Avalon as it is good hunting grounds while fur is traded with the natives fairly as there is a demand for fur coats back in the English court. Work is done to replace many of the ageing Arqebus with newer and higher penetrating muskets.
  • Abbasid Caliphate: The military is well-equipped with a wide array of various kinds of cannons, with the largest cannon of all being the Great Bombard. The elite Kilabarub are trained in both sabars and muskets. Canal stuff, you know. Ibn Yakub is finally caught in Damascus, and accused by members of the Ulema as accepting bribes from leaders of Shia. Yakub denies these charges, but in order to prevent controversy in the Ulema, Al-Najm orders him to be kept in the prison. The aged Caliph is mournful of having to betray such a just and wise man, but considers it his duty nonetheless. The major cities in the Caliphate, such as Damascus, Cairo, Alexandria, and Beyrut, begin taking a much more western look as modern styles of cobblestone and dense houses are constructed. A new book titled Fii Nijaam Khadeer ("On New Stars") is published, being a dissertaion on the nature of supernovas.

A mass migration of Oromo people from Sub-Sahara Africa forces the heartland of Ethiopia to settle in the more defensible highlands.

Ceylon errupts into civil war as it splits into three culturally-separate states: Jaffna, Kandy, and Kotte. Both Jaffna and Kotte each asks Burgundy and Portugal for support to crush the other one, while Kandy works for total independence.

The Kingdom of Ndongo is established in Angola.

Duverger cites the Kappelist theology becoming popular among the people, despite no nobles accepting it, as the logic behind the Gallic rite.

  • Kingdom of Burgundy: Guyana expands 25px west. In light of the Ceylonese unrest, the Burgundian East India Company invokes the Military Allocation Act, allowing them utilization of Burgundian military forces in the area. A fleet of fifty EIC schooners and caravels, supported by the Royal Navy, and the Company's Colonial Guard contingent in Ceylon are moved to support the Jaffnan forces.
  • Abbasid Caliphate: Economy continues to prosper as the conduit from Europe to East Asia, especially connected with the Swahili state by dynastic union. The Ulema votes to condemn all forms of divination and astrology, and outlaw any practice of sorcery through magian support. This causes a brief purge of forced conversion among small Zoroastrian communities in the Caliphate, especially in the region of Tabriz. In reaction to this, focus on astronomy increases in the House of Wisdom and the Library of Alexandria, as considered the more modern way of studying the stars. Canals continue to be canals. In reaction to Ibn Yakub's imprisonment, many of the younger generation in Damascus and surrounding cities begin to openly protest. Al-Najm, in his old age, does little to prevent this disorder than a few charismatic speaches. Several books this year are published on the methods used by ancient arcitects on art and buildings, and these become immensely popular in the Caliphate. Following the interest in antiquities, a Coptic community near the city of Rashida begins digging around for artifacts from the Ptolemaic dynasty.
  • Cologne: The new Archbishop-Patriarch, Aldrich, thanks His Holiness for the condolences and news of likely elevation. He is particularly keen to work with the Imperial Synod, as is the Archbishop of Cologne’s privilege, and convenes several informal meetings of Imperial Synod members this year in order to scope out religious opinions. He notes the building of seminaries in most other HRE countries, given the Decrees of the Council of Cologne, and spends some money improving the seminary in Cologne, hoping to make it the seat of religious discussion throughout the Holy Roman Empire. In this respect, Archbishop Aldrich asks all other HRE member-states with universities to send a few learned theologians to the improved Seminary in Cologne (Mod response please) (also Prussia, Bohemia). Meanwhile, the military continues to improve and funds continue to trickle in from the printing press. The Stelzer press itself in Cologne is quite developed by this point, with a third generation family running the business.
    • Essen: The mines continue expansion. Meanwhile, Abbess Hadwig thanks His Holiness for the audience and travels personally to Rome with all the documents amassed about the Rule and Order of St Adelphina. The Rule follows generally the same mode of life as the Augustinian Rule. It takes the eight chapters written by St Augustine and adds two further chapters: one on discipline, which formalises the process for dealing with incursions under the other chapters and refers directly to the Court of Discipline or another established internal court; and one on Charitable Works of Mercy, which emphasises the importance of community service in the form of teaching or work in the infirmaries and is required to be performed for more than half of every waking day. The mission of the Order of St Adelphina is to bring the Adelphinian Reforms to others in order to secure peace and happiness amongst all, in the pursuit of a greater unity. Mainly women join the Order, as either canonesses regular or nuns (secular canonesses are rare by this point), and there is potential to create a Double Order in the manner of the Brigettines of Sweden. This would involve a small community of priests, called “priests of the order”, being chosen to live near but not inside an abbey, to provide chaplaincy services when required, but remain under the government of the abbess. Whilst in Rome, Abbess Hadwig picks up a copy of Life Among the Giapanois for some light reading in transit.
      • Papal Diplomacy: Pope Adrian is pleased with almost every aspect of the proposed Rule, especially the fact that it is a double order, which will make it perfectly suited for missionary work in the New World. However His Holiness is distressed at the proposal for nuns to be included in the order, as their contemplative life is not in keeping with the active life of the rest of the order. Furthermore, he orders that a rule be added that the Abbess of Essen be the Abbes-General of the entire Order.
        • Essen Diplomacy: Abbess Hadwig thanks His Holiness for his approval and modifications, especially with respect to the idea of an abbess-general, which would obviously make sense given the higher position of St Adelphina herself as Abbess of Essen. In response to Pope Adrian's distress, Abbess Hadwig apologises and states that the new daughter-abbeys of nuns formed over the past ten years will of course not be able to keep up with the expectations of the new Order - therefore, she will cease to refer to them as "daughter abbeys" of the Order. Rather, they will simply be other abbeys in Cologne. Hopefully, Abbess Hadwig tells His Holiness, many aspiring nuns will therefore become motivated to instead take the vows of an Adelphinian canoness.
We continue development of Madagascar. With our focus on agricultural, we begin to experience a population boom as settlers in new fertile ground feels secure to have multiple children.
  • Papal States: Glad that the confusion about Dilexit Deus has subsided, Pope Adrian can focus on the other two pressing matters: the refurbishment of Rome under Gabielangelo, and the discussions with Duverger. The former is going splendidly. Regarding the latter, he asks Duverger two questions: firstly is he could provide a succinct description of this distinct Gallic spirituality, and secondly he is asked why a different spirituality alone (without different lturgies etc) is sufficient to warrant a new Rite. The Franciscans have a distinct spirituality and theology, but are Latin-Rite. In other news, missions to Giapan and Maya continue to bring converts.
  • Kingdom of England and Ireland: Work is kept to keep the current existing roads maintained. More fur and fish arrives in England from Avalon feeding the people and keeping the court of England up to date with the latest fashions while other furs are sent into Europe for trade as tobacco is. From New Gywnedd more tobacco keeps arriving while a small trickle of slaves/ African volunteer settlers continues to move to the colony to work while a smaller number of English and Welsh settlers move over to supervise their labours. In England the materials from the colony is working well for the English economy.
  • The Kingdom of France expands the Brazil colony South, and creates a new colony in the OTL Deleware Area. Navy expands apporpriotly.

The navy begins constant shipping and resupply missions to the new forts in what region is being called Dàyángzhōu. An alliance begins being considered with Korea, though no offer is made as of yet.
  • Prussia-Luxembourg: Freidrich continues to actively support the king of Bohemia and the Pro-Prussian faction supplying them with arms, and money to maintain power. Freidrich formally calls on the princes to a vote on the subject of reforming Imperial courts and on the settling of disputes amongst princes to reform the Hofgericht (mod response for HRE non player states.) Prussia begins to place influence on the Electorate of Saxony which it helped secure the independence of during the second war of the lions. In Holstein the English shipwrights are put to work with building a couple of capital ships for the small prussian Navy, aswell as instructing Prussian shipbuilders on how to make more efficient and sea worthy ships Development of a stronger navy begins to develop a navy capable of protecting growing Prussian Tade in the Baltic and North Seas. The Wrangel family and Freidrich begin trying to open negotiations with the Hansaetic league Cities of Lubeck, and Hamburg to find funds to improve Prussia's naval capacities with the promise of proctecting Hansaetic Trade and to set up favorable trade and buisness arrangements between Hansaetic and Prussian Merchants (Mod Response please). Jozef von Wrangel is appointed the Prussian governer of the Wilhelmburg Settlement, He begins exploring further up the New Rhine River, setting up an outpost right across the river in otl Montevideo, and begins attempting to explore further upstream. The Wrangel family begins recruiting poor and unemployed peasents to come to the outpost or to be trained as sailors this is done in coordination with the Royal house which is eager to begin expanding trade with the world.

  • Kingdom of Burgundy: with the support of Jaffna's military, the East India Company Colonial Guard are able to defeat the forces of Kotte and Kandy. The city of Colombo is again made the administrative capital, but Jaffna, Kotte, and Kandy are kept separate legal entities. Rebellious nobility are replaced with Jaffnan and pro-Burgundy appointments, and the new Count of Kotte, the young son of the last Kotte pretender, is baptized as David John. Guyana expands 25px west.
  • Norway: Within the kingdom a great religious battle ensues in the Riksdag and Hall of High blood between the protestant bogmaður and Catholic Bókasafn. The tension grow as Norway is now 46% Kapelian 30% Catholic 15% Jaegarian and 9% Pagan. The main reason believed to be behind this is the powerful bogmaður blocking potential anti Kapel acts. Worry spreads among the Bókasafn due to allegied rumours that High Jarl Count Christian of Oldenburg is a Kapelian due to his Closeness with many members of bogmaður and his closeness with Harald Sinclair the earl of orkney, one of the most powerful members of the bogmaður. The ailing health of Queen diana does less to alleviate the concern. The passing of the Guð leyndarmál Act (God's Secrets) officially outlaws the use of inquisitions (such as the papal and Immaculate inquisition) the excuse for this is to allow greater religious debate and closeness to god, as he is a mysterious being and such free religious thought should be allowed. The Queen Diana's health doesn't allow her to excercise her duties as queen as such her regent Count Christian pass the acts. Further confirming the fears of the Bókasafn. In other news the Hereditary Count Michael Gyldenlove of Oldenburg turns 13 and marries the Queen of Sweden (AM confirmation) thus ensuring a future union between our two countries. Plans for a Colony in Arcadia begins hoping to establish it on OTL Nova Scotia. A further exploration of Arcadia and Laurentia continues with an explorer landing on OTL Tobago and claiming it the name of the kingdom of Norway and name it Løveland however the distance between the two and without a settlement it can only be passed off as ridiculous. In Norway a Bestiary is published called "The Beasts of the New World" including the Kraken, A sasquach esque creature, and a Water Unicorn.
  • Prussia-Luxembourg: Freidrich continues to actively support the king of Bohemia and the Pro-Prussian faction supplying them with arms, and money to maintain power. Freidrich formally calls on the princes to a vote on the subject of reforming Imperial courts and on the settling of disputes amongst princes to reform the Hofgericht (mod response for HRE non player states.) Prussia cotinues to exert over influence on the Electorate of Saxony in an attempt to increase the dependency on Prussia. Freidrich begins formally supporting the consolidation of the German Catholic Church as it is formally being declared with the duality of two patriachs one in Berlin and another in Cologne to represent both the Latin and Northern Rites within the Holy Roman Empire in an Autonomous Catholic Church for the Empire (as per the council of Cologne.). In commemeration of the reconciliation of Cologne as it is being called in the Northern Rite construction of the Cathedral of St. Adelphine and of Unity a grand  Church aimed to represent both the beauty of Prussian Renassaince Architecture and to promote Imperial Religious Unity amongst all Germans With the vast majority of Prussians and Luxembourgians being of the Northern Rite. Freidrich begins to request that other HRE states embrtace the new autonomous German Church within the reformed Catholic Church in the HRE. Freidrich continues to consolidate his centralization of power into the monarchy having successfully submitted most of the nobility to his control, and having stripped them of most of their military autonomy by integrating them into the Royal Army. He continues to promote the development of a stronger army and continues to expand the usage of firearms in his forces. The arms industry in the domains of the crown continue to grow. The Wrangel Family also establishes the Wrangel Bank and Company centred in Financing and Trading with its headquaters in KIel and Danzig. The Company begins looking to establish merchant voyages to africa to secure ivory, exotic woods from Africa and Laurentia. Freidrich proposes an alliance to Bohemia in occordance with the recent improved relations between the states.

  • Abbasid Caliphate: In the wake of so many works of scientific literature from Alexandria and Baghdad, a young scholar from Iraq emerges known as Yahya Al-Babil. Al-Babil begins studying many works of alchemy and beastiary, and begins developing a method by which theories and laws of nature can be extrapolated analytically. The Catacombs of Kom El-Shofqa are accidentally discovered this year by Copts looking for the burials of the Ptolemaic kings.
  • Chinese Empire: The new southern island fortresses begin to grow into settlements as shipping lanes become constant, allowing small towns to begin popping up around the fortresses.Due to this the fortresses begin to grow into small towns and attract settlers from mainland China. (Will add more later, in Nasville til Thursday morning.)
    • Even for China that is too fast, although I'm sure you could get there eventually -Natemod

Whilst some are sent there, many too are sent to France, the Catholic cantons of Switzerland, Southern Germany etc. to strengthen the Catholic faith. Gabielangelo's renovations continue. In the Giapan Mission, the Immaculata focus on trying to convert some daimyo. Pope Adrian's health begins to fail. Duverger is asked the same questions as last year.
    • Duverger gives up and goes home, hoping to expand his support in France before returning to Rome to negotiate with the Pope again. -scraw
  • Holy Bulgarian Empire: Tsar Aleksandar continues many of the policies of his father hoping to keep the high level settlement of Aegean Greece and Vlach underway and repopulating specifically the Greek countryside. The Tsars Son Kaloyan is born early in the year in Vasiligrad quietly and is described as a strong young boy. Coincidentally he is born with a twin, as sister named Helen who is taken from the name "Helen of Troy" a woman from one of the Tsars favorite books, the Odyssey. The Grand Patriatch forms the Council of Patriarchs to bring a more codified and organized system to the newly split off orthodox christian world.

1545

Massive migrations of Oromo people begin to settle in large numbers on the borderlands of Swahili, displacing the Afro-Asiatic people there.

On St Stephen's Day, King Wenceslas III of Poland dies tragically when he leaves the palace into a blizzard to save a farmer's life.

In Kyushu, Japan, a Damiyo named D. Shoni Sukemoto converts to Christianity, in order to be better algined with the West. He plans to send someone on his behalf to Europe when Bonapaart returns.

Pope Adrian VI dies suddenly of heart failure while in the middle of delivering a homily at St. Paul Outside the Walls.

  • Abbasid Caliphate: Al-Najm the Great did his best to keep active by daily walking about Damascus without any guards or armor, but at 62 years old his health was clearly declining. In Baghdad, Al-Babil published a book titled "Fii Al-Tariq ila A'lum" ("On the Method to Science"), which layed out a percise method of hypothesis, theory, and law by which new discoveries can be achieved. This was primarily targeted against astrology which have become much more unpopular at this time. Meanwhile, a group of Humanist scholars from the Ulema authorized for the Quran to be printed by a single printing firm in Kufa. This is an historic moment as this was the first Quran in history to be printed instead of transcribed. A few scholars contended that Qurans made by printing should not be considered true Qurans, but most ignored these concerns. The Copts in Alexandria continue to dig up artifacts from the catacombs of Kom El-Shofqa, and in nearby towns as far as Rashid.
  • Oman: With all major construction projects having since been completed, the focus of Oman shifts toward expansion. Oman establishes a new colony in Seychelles, which is home to the "sea coconut" or "double coconut", found nowhere else in the known world. Vohemar and the Southern Colony are combined to form Jazirat Al-Qamar, or Island of the Moon. Further north, the island of Socotra again comes under Omani influence after an Omani fleet lands on the island and the local chiefs are massacred. The newly appointed ruler of Socotra agrees to submit to Omani rule. Meanwhile, King Numair offers to marry one of his daughters to an Ottoman noble.
    • Island of the Moon: Due to Omani incursions into Merina territory, relations soon break down. Skirmishes erupt in the interior as Omani settlers are driven out of the more fertile lands of Imerina and into the north. The colonies are in a de facto state of war with Imerina.
  • Papal States: With Pope Adrian's death, the Cardinals gather in Rome, but the start of the Conclave is delayed because they have to wait for the Hospitaller Cardinal to come from New Rhodes, and for the Polish Cardinal to make his way out of Poland, which could be tricky for a cleric so closely associated with the Catholic Council. Duverger's return to France is noted, and the Immaculata focus more on France, getting themselves appointed chaplains and tutors to the nobility and royalty, as well as wandering around preaching to the peasants and townsfolk in Kappelist regions. Essen is asked whether it might assist in evangelisation in the New World and elsewhere by establishing missionary priories of the Order of St Adelphina. In Giapan, the conversion of Dom Sukemoto encourages the missionaries there to try and convert more daimyo. The missionaries also begin utilising the Giapanois converts, appointing catechists and lay preachers from among them, and allowing them to baptise other Giapanois and evangelise to their own communities (this was done otl).
  • Trebizond: In the year 1545 of the Christ, the population of Trebizond bury their Emperor, David II, who died after passing the previous months into a coma. His 33 years old son, Alexios, ascend to the throne as Emperor Alexios V of house Megas Komnenos. The new emperor rapidly decide to depart from his father's policy of isolation. His first action is to produce coins to his image in order to make himself known from the population. He then begin searching for a possible alliance, going on a trip across the Balkans and (if necessary) Europe for the entire year, just like Manuel II Palaiologos did in 1365. Alexios seeks a young girl to betroth to his 4 years old son and heir, David. In exchange for the betrothal, Alexios is offering full commercial access for the merchants of whoever would accept as well as full access to the harbors of Trebizond for their fleet. (Player response) In his travels, Alexios try to remind the ancient and prestigious history of House Komnenos, which ruled the Eastern Roman Empire.
