The Ming Dynasty still rules over the vast lands of China. On the other side of the world, the Hundred Years War continues between England and France. Europe is still stuck in the old ways of feudalism and chivalry while the notions of a New World are considered figments of imagination.

We welcome you to the long awaited fourth expansion of that immortal series. Welcome to Principia Moderni IV! Starting in 1400 AD, this is the dawn of the modern world and the tail end of the Middle Ages. The Renaissance is just kicking off in Europe, while the nations in the western side of the continent are locked in the last gasp of the Hundred Years War. The Muslim world is still reeling from the invasions of Turks and Mongols, with the Caliphate resting in the collapsing Mamluk Egypt and the Ottomans on the rise in Anatolia. Make it count.

The first game was the most successful on the wiki, leading all the way to the modern day with mostly plausible posts and little controversy. The second game reached almost to the modern day, but failed due to a plethora of ASB events and moderator bias. The third game was much more worthy of the first, almost running into implausibility but climbing back into a shining glory by the end. Riding on the latest reforms of map games since the end of PMIII, this is the most logical next step in that evolution. Remember above all other rules — have fun.

Plausibility Strikes

Three strikes and you're out! Each strike resets after 30 years of the most recent strike.

  • Scar - I (1629)

Moderator Strikes

These are strikes for moderators and how they moderate. The same three strikes rules apply. If a moderator is banned from moderating, however, they can still play as their nation. Mod strikes can be delivered in one of three ways:

  1. If a sufficient number of players (more than half of all players voting) vote to give a moderator a strike.
  2. If I, Scraw, give them a strike.
  3. If a majority of all mods (ie more than half of the total number of mods, excluding that moderator) vote to give a moderator a strike.

Moderators can be given strikes for the following reasons:

  1. Exhibiting bias that would benefit the nation they are playing.
  2. Exhibiting bias that would negatively affect a player they have a personal dispute with.
  3. Making a ruling that contradicts a proven fact from OTL or an established fact from earlier in the game.
  4. Overruling a decision of a majority of moderators.

The Game

1650

Piracy grows in the North Atlantic among defected French and Iberian ships.

Pietism spreads across Italy, but the priests and friars who lead it take no responsibility for the actions of extremists, who are all not clerical.

Smaller denominations of Christianity mixing Latin and Northern rites appear in Oldenburg and Hansa.

The plague dies down in Scandinavia. However, an outbreak of plague strikes New Essex in Arcadia.

In response to the proclamations of Burgundy, the Duke of Orleans suggests the King of France recreates the Estates General.

The Knights Hospitaller agrees to the aid from Essen. The Seminole tribe in Arcadia is converted to Christianity.

In Eastern France, Burgundy, and the Low countries the amount of troops going along the areas road system causes a general collapse in the supply lines causing tens of thousands to flee back to their respective countries and leaving nearly 150,000 french troops and 75,000 burgundian (coalition) troops trapped in the low countries. The popularity of downsizing from mass armies becomes much more prominent as it extend the war another year.

In the Andes, the Iberian troops isolated by the mountains are thrown out by French loyalists who marshall a force of 30,000 consisting of settlers, natives etc etc under the French colonial general Marquis de Potosia

  • Sinkyone:In Arqortoqe the first farms put up with tomatoes and grasses(mais) as their crop. There are also the first domisticated Elks that help the farmers to plough their grounds. We send because of the farmning technology we got some boats up north in OTL Gold beach Orregon .We settle there the first Athabaskan people who use basic farming but mostly hunting to get their food. Also Ask Wailiki,Matolle and Coast Yuki(MOD RESPONSE)We also Ask the Leader of Wiyot if Tuketwa could mary his daughter Eyota thus forming a persnoal union between the two,AlsoTuketwa Demands with his millitary power that the chief could pick out his succesor and not to be elected so that they can chose the best warior but he notes if no family is in favour of the chosen succesor that the election would then happen annyways
    • The Wiyot leader would prefer if his daughter married Tuketwa's son
    • Tuketwa ask if the wiyot leader can let his daughter marry his younger teen brother Diltwa
    • The Wiyot leader accepts
  • Great Iberia: Reports of Francisco Alves' expeditions finally reach mainland Iberia. He led a conquest of the natives from OTL Nayarit to Sinaloa who had previously resisted conquest, committing violent acts against their people, before wandering off in search of a "city of gold". After being assumed dead, he unexpectedly reappears in Maiam this year, leading a second expedition (albeit a much smaller one) to Sinaloa. He founds the cities of São Miguel (near OTL Culiacán) and Compostela. In accordance with King John's wishes, the new territories are given the name "Kingdom of Nova Galiza". Iberia agrees to trade with Swahili through Mozambique Island. Portuguese dominion is extended to the southern part of Fernando Pó from the existing settlements on the east and west sides (OTL Luba and Riaba). Colonists begin arriving and planting sugarcane crops. In Europe, the army of 35,000 captures Pamplona, occupying the Navarra region, and marches north to the town of Hendaye, which is garrisoned by 2,500 French troops. The blockade of France continues.
  • Benin: With the passing of the late Oba Adolo, his firstborn son, Ogbebo, is crowned as Oba this year. Ever since he was young boy, Ogbebo had never been concerned with the the duties of a warrior as his father had wished, but rather spent his time reading about tales depicting the rise of Benin in great detail. As Ogbebo ascended to the throne, the exploits of Oba Ewuare, who lived over two centuries before, would serve as a model to which Ogbebo would follow faithfully. Opening his reign, Oba Ogbebo moves the capital and the Uzama, the imperial legislature to Bapure, formerly a provincial capital from the earliest days of the empire which had fallen into ruin over the years. With the construction of the new capital underway, Oba Ogbebo sends several envoys across the Sahara to establish diplomatic connections with the Rashidun, in an effort to find cultural patrons and political allies.
    • Iberian Diplomacy: A Portuguese envoy visits the Beninese court and requests that Benin recognize the Iberian Crown's authority over the island of Fernando Pó (Bioko).
      • Bini Diplomacy: As a fierce pacifist, Oba Ogbebo allows the strange white man to claim dominion over the worthless island.
    • Rashidun dip: The trans-saharan caravan route sends the dipmoat Ubaid Ibn Abbas to the Benin court, giving gifts of gold and copies of Greek philosophy as a tolken of improved relationship.
  • Papal States: With Belkan troops pouring into Venice, the Papal Army is mobilised at the Papal-Venetian border. Back home, two delayed events take place. Firstly, the Prefect for the Missions presents his report and recommendations to the Pope. The missions are generally fairly successful and their orthodoxy is good. Special priase is reserved for the Adelphinian Canonesses, who have made tremendous strides for a still-young Order; especially one made up largely of women! However, sometimes the missionary orders conflict with each other, sometimes they conflict with the diocesan authorities, and sometimes they have different ideas about to what extent local cultures and beliefs can be incorporated into Catholicism licitly. It is therefore recommended that regional Legatine Courts be established with the authority to arbitrate in those disputes. The Pope agrees to this proposal, remembering the effectiveness of the Courts of Discipline of the Adelphinian Reforms in his native land. Secondly, Fritz Wolfenburg's opera is finally given its premier (his bishop-patron had died before the initial premier, so he had had to find a new one). It receives rave reviews and is an instant success, catapulting Wolfenburg to a household name. At a celebration party, Wolfenburg composes another ditty taking aim at the Russians, its refrain is "The only went to the Pacific/to make up for their tiny ----". It too, is a runaway success. Back home the spread of the 'Pietist movement' continues, and the Pope is quite pleased that people are starting to properly accept sexual teachings. He is also pleased that those clerics who have taken it up have distanced themselves from the brothel-burnings. The Pope releases his planned encyclical on sexual morality, which he entitles Sancta Connubii (on Holy Marriage). In it, Zachary repeats the Church's condemnation of adultery, fornication, abortion, infanticide, prostitution, sodomy, and bestiality as being contrary to natural and divine law, however he includes an invitation to those living in sin to accept God's great love through the Sacrament of Confession. Despite his condemntation of prostitution, the Pope writes that brothels should not be destroyed, nor prostitutes persecuted, as this would make their conversion of life less likely. The encyclical also has a few paragraphs on marriage and the benefits of sex within it, as both a means of bringing forth children, and of increasing the affection between spouses. The Secretary for Foreign Relations asks Scandinavia for a response, reiterating his openness to a counter-offer and the Pope's desire to return Papal-Scandinavian relations to normal. Hearing about the mixed Latin-Northern groups in the North of Germany, Pope Zachary asks the Archbishop of Cologne, as Patriarch of the Church in the HRE, to investigate these groups, and see how they do (or can) within the general German Church. The Adelphinian Order is asked if they would like any financial assistance in their new administrative role in Hospitaller lands in the New World. Missions in Japan, Korea-China, the New World, and Southern Africa continue.
    • Scandinavian dip: We categorically refuse these terms as we see them as unfair and giving too much power to Rome. We withdraw the diplomat, seeing the unfair treatment of the Roman Archbishop.
    • Papal Dip: I'm letting you select the Catholic bishop. What terms would you agree to? Or are you simply intent on destroying relations and increasing antagonism?
  • Scandinavian Empire: Development happens around the capital Riksdale, as well as in Oslo, Stockholm, Copenhagen, Oldenburg and Visby. Stockholm is put in quarantine, as the plague breaks out in the city. The ports of Vindov and Libov (Windau and Libau) in Couronia are being promoted. Colonial endeavours around Olafsdale (Labrador settlements) and New Blekinge (Hudson Bay settlements) continue. We also continue colonizing the Island of New Gotland and the coast north of it, as we see it as good farmland, being named Haraldsdale. The Hebrides are continued to be colonized by Norsemen, to integrate the Sudreyar into the fold. Settlers are sent into the far north of Finland and Lapland, to claim the country for the Norsemen. Protestant preachers are sent to Oldenburg and the Hebrides and Catholic power is undermined in the region, and money is sent to the Protestant groups within the Hansa. King Harald dies honourably on the field of battle in France. Kettil is raised to King and immediately withdraws ALL SUPPORT from the war, due to this war leading his father into the folly.
  • Great Union of Korea and China: With the annexation of China under a dualistic union, the Emperor Kim Seothae abolishes the Chinese imperial court, instead instating the reformed Korean state-council as the national legislature. Through instituting a system of appointment for higher-ranking government positions, he cements his royal authority and effectively culls the bureaucracy of any oppositional elements. Furthermore, he implements the six-rank Korean caste system (in order of importance; bureaucrats, professionals, merchants, lower-rank military personnel, peasantry and tenant farmers), phasing out the simpler traditional four-caste system that had been used in China. With the war effort bringing plight and destitution to affected communities, packages of surplus rice and other grains are freely distributed, makeshift homes are provided, whilst a limited allowance is provided to purchase other basic necessities. With the utilization of extensive bullion reserves originally allocated to the war effort, a five-year reconstruction campaign is aggressively pursued to restore the former grandeur condition of the states' infrastructure. With Tali being crushed and its respective Hui Muslim royalty being dethroned and subsequently executed, the Emperor and his advisors pay attention to reinstalling and consolidating the once extensive tributary system. Therefor, emissaries are sent to Bhutan, Shan, Siam, Pegu, Dai Viet, and Champa demanding the immediate establishment of yearly tributary missions (MOD RESPONSE).
    • Yakutia: With the nascent state being vigorously settled, many relocated Yakut commoners are told to live an agrarian sedentary lifestyle and renounce their lives are semi-nomadic herders. A maritime city is established, being named Kun (after the Yakut word referring to the "sun"). The Sakhan Church of the East moves their main base of operations to mentioned settlement. The new currency, the Sakhan mun, is implemented and used to remonetize the volatile economy.
    • All of the nations except Siam agree. ~Wolves
  • Kingdom of Burgundy: with the collapse of logistics for both the French and the Allies, Graaf Lasser pulls the Allied army back into the Netherlands. Reforming the bands from last year, Lasser disperses them in a line north of Brussels, recognizing that smaller groups are easier to live off the land, and be easier on that land. As logistics precludes campaigning on both sides, he sets about reorganizing the army on the Belkan model. Pikes are redesignated secondary weapons after losing so many trained pikemen in the logistical collapse, and many regiments are remolded to favor massed musket fire after its found its much easier to train a musketeer than a pikeman, and thus able to replace losses faster. Throughout the year, while the main army reorganizes itself, cavalry raids continue to attempt to play hell on the supply situation for the French army, seizing supplies, and burning what it can't carry. With the French force already unable to feed itself, its expected that the lack of supplies will force it to fall back. Meanwhile, raiders continue to play havoc on enemy shipping, with control of the seas establishes post-Dunkirk, further depriving France of overseas income. At the same time, a group of 1,000 European mercenaries hired by Burgundy seize several enemy possessions in the Tainoan Sea, including the Philippines, Haiti, and French Puerto Rico.
  • France: With desertion rates are rising massively we pull back out of Brussels declare the dutch republic and sign the Treaty of Brussels with them and pull back an 70,000 strong forces to Niuewport leaving 5,000 in Brussels while the remaining 70,000 soliders go to saint- Quentin and dig in. The desertions are acknodlged as being a very dire issue which is why we are pulling back to our own lands where supplies are better and people are more motivated to fight for their own lands. 15,000 men are sent to reinforce the army in Provence which moves back to Toloun and digs in to allow a Iberian attack. Johnas de witt the man mentioned in the treaty is the most popular merchant we could find in Brussels. New Valois and France artique are resiezed. More to come.
  • Tsardom of Belka: having spent all of the last year preparing the offensive into Venice, the Tsar puts his son Constantine in the command spot next to the general sent to command the forces. This is for him to gain practical combat experience with Belkas new army which has been trained to professional efficiency. The Belkan troops move on Venice and meet the Venetian army roughly at Acquelia expecting to wipe them out. The Navy which as reformed into the Home fleet and the Medditerrenean fleet consisting of 150 ships per fleet are organized and put to sea. A squadron of nearly 45 ships with 10 of those being 98 gun ships of the line, blockade the Adriatic beginning to cut Venice off and ready to send more ships at a moments notice from nearby in Ragusa. However with the push through past Acqueilia the first stage of the battle of venice forces the Venetian army back into their city keeping the city on the ropes and under seige. its estimated only 25,000 Venetian troops remain in the city (due to casualties sustained in battle) and Belka begins planning the draw up of Peace terms as a less trained army labelled at a strength of 25,000 is delivered into the region which marches on the rest of Venetian controlled northern italy manning the borders. It is at this moment the Papal diplomacy is responded too with a simple brush off telling the Papal states to remain outside of Belkas affairs and that north italy will be restored to its more natural state. The Tsar also heavily begins preassuring the Venetians to capitulate as this is just a trade war and Venice being restored to its previous state would be much more viable for the region (mod plz)
    • Papal Dip: The ambassador emphases that we do not care about Northern Italy, but rather the random Southern coast that Venice stole from us through vile coercion.
  • English Arcadia: The continuing influx of immigrants from Europe keeps the population skyrocketing, leaving our population at 680,000. Most of this comes via immigration from England, But French, Germans and even Italians are also prevalent. Wanting to maintain these growth rates over time, Cornelius Wilmington starts several programs to maintain these high rates of immigration. The first is a flat sum of 3 pounds - about 1/4 of an average annual salary given to each family that immigrates to Arcadia. In addition, any family that move can either receive a plot of land, or another 3 pounds if they prefer to live in the city. In order to support these programs and population influx, our governor Cornelius Wilmington continues to expand inland at a rapid pace, notably expanding into OTL north Florida, now claiming much of the Floridian panhandle and expanding down the floridian coast. Expansion also occurs in the north, using the Delaware river as the eastern border, to expand into OTL Pennsylvania. In addition, the frontier continues to march west, now at a faster pace. The newly occupied land is mostly reserved for agriculture, but several cities continue to grow along the coast, notably New Essex (On the east shore of Virginia), New Rome (OTL Charleston), and York (OTL Dover). As the population continues to rapidly expand, and English permission secured Wilmington again gathers representatives from around the colony to begin splitting it into smaller governorates. With war in full swing in Europe, we decide to join by invading Burgundian Arcadia. With Bilzen and New Amsterdam under our effective control, Wilmington unites his two armies to finish off the remaining 4,000 Burgundian troops, now stuck between Bilzen and New Amsterdam. After the defeat of the Burgundian Army, Wilmington begins to negotiate with the the Burgundians on what parts of the colony he might claim.
  • Kingdom of England, Ireland and Scotland: Seeing the massive desertions in France as supply chains collapse this is looked upon with dismay but the declaration of the dutch republic is considered good news.. With the war going well in Arcadia this is appreciated but there is still concern well aware the war is in it's early. There is little change from the previous year with the same forces holding the same positions in England while forces assigned to fighting Arcadia do so under the command of the Governor of the Arcadian colonies. Privateers continue to hit belligerent shipping in the English channel and north sea but avoiding those such as Scandinavia who are not at war with them. England has 5.3 million people, Wales has 0.4 million Ireland has 1.6 m to million people and Scotland 1.0 million people. Fleet losses continue to be replaced but there is a focus now on ships of the line seeing large fleets as obsolete so less ships are built but they are much bigger and more combat capable. Seeing fighting Europe and the ineffectiveness of large scale mass feudal levy attacks are a bad idea and so the first reorganisation of home forces is started which makes up around 45,000 troops and efforts are made to re- equip them mainly with muskets reducing the use of pike in accordance with a swinging tide in Europe. This process is expected to take some years. The treaty of Brussels is acknodlged and signed while the we are still ready to negoaite with the current Burgundian king and regime.
  • Russia: We continue to expand 40px into Siberia. The Western Navy work ends. More canon foundries are built in Tsaritsyn and Rurikgrad. The 5 Amur Schooners set said and end up off the river by Haedo Island. They sail north and dock in Markovgrad on the Vladimir River (OTL Okhota River). Capitan Vyatcheslav Poleshchuk calls the wide open sea the Sea of Russkiy Vostok (Russian Orient). Already by next year, Captain Poleschcuk plans for a a mapping expedition of the coastline. In the North of the Tsardom, a mapping expedition gets off coarse when looking for Nenetsia Island and lands upon the bottom of a large Island. After some mapping he discovers a second northern island. The captain calls these the Crescent Islands (OTL Sverhney Islands). More gun production sites are set up in Moscow, Novgorod, and many Siberian cities. With much colonization fo Siberia, a sudden shortage of fur based products. Leads to large hunt for many otters and other little furry critters. Farming continues in the southern Siberians lands with many new lands on the border are churned up for substinance farming mainly. [OCC but Cal shouldn't you stat directing insults at Magrahb since they are your religious rivals, and are much much closer]
    • Papal OOC: Porque no los dos amirite?
  • Bengal Sultanate: The Bengals continued to invade and attack Burma with 3 large scale attacks these last 2 years with each attack including a force of at least 100,000 men. This lead to the surrender of Burma as the government did not want more destruction and more deaths from the war. In Bengal, people celebrated victory over Burma and a treaty will be held early next year. But for people in Burma, this is a new beginning for the people who survived. The Sultan pledged to support the survivors of the war in Burma and Ahom. Small Scale medical centers have already been built in the region to support the injured and sick. Food will also be provided as Bengal does contain a surplus of crops that usually never make it to a household for consumption so this is a win-win situation. The Sultan has scheduled a visit in the region to give a speech of hope and future prosperity for the people who are now under Bengali rule. A new age for Bengal begins.A sort of proto-newspaper company has been established in the nation to deliver local news. Also, an immigration shipping company had been established last year and will begin transporting immigrants from ships to and from Bengal. Also, slavery has become strictly prohibited in the nation as well. While soldiers return home from the war an explosion in population has begun with pregnancy rates nearly doubled. The population has reached 27.16 million people. Military recruits total up to 12,000 for the year. Coastal marketplaces grow. The PTS Teavana has set sail to the Mediterranean with more than 400 people on board. The University has completed construction and scientific centers have grown. An education act has been established in which every child must get an education and is compulsory for the most part. Homeschooling is permitted as well. Job's have continued to rise as well with the poverty rate depleting. The nation begins a new era in post-war time.
  • Maiam: The government of Maiam continues to petition Iberia to merge Mecicipi into one nation with Maiam to increase safety and security in light of recent wars. Small rebellions break out as citizens believe that Iberia is dragging them into wars that they do not wish to be a part of. Chocolate exports continue, mostly to European nations including England and Iberia. Maiam's population now reflects about half native Mayan and Mexican and half European, with a large mixed-race population. Expansion continues along the northern and southern borders, focusing on the coast. Trade continues up from Amazonia and down from Mecicipi, and these trade routes are upkept. Maiam, seeking to become more self-reliant, begins building it's own navy and armories.
  • Swahili: We continue our agriculture policies. The royal guards continue convincing contracted servants. Areas interior to Mobassa and Malindi is colonized. We also send out conquistadors to expand northwards into more northern Somalia. We continue development of Madagascar. With the war in Europe, the Sultan encourages trade to Europe and the Caliphate. As a result, we gained much revenue and also significant technological pieces and books that were sold by Europeans. The colony in Orungu also receives a boon from the trade, and we station 1,000 guards at the colony. Akida crossed the Gibraltar and arrives at France, the Papal States, Veneto and Naples. Warships approach the Iberian settlement in Mozambique Island.
    • Swahili Dip to Iberia: We are willing to allow the fort as part of a trade outpost in return for gold and technological and military cooperation. Extraterritoriality will not be given to those who commit crimes in Swahili.
    • Swahili Dip to France: We propose a trade agreement.
    • Swahili Dip to the Papal States: We propose a trade agreement
    • Swahili Dip to Veneto : We propose a trade agreement
    • Swahili Dip to Naples: We propose a trade agreement

  • Great Union of Korea and China: Public Muslim proselytizing is prohibited, and many Hui are encouraged to renounce Islam. The government patronizes Confucianism as the national philosophy, however, the Emperor maintains a heterodox stance; allowing the proliferation of new branches offering new reinterpretations of Confucius' teachings. With the utilization of extensive funds originally allocated to the war effort, a five-year reconstruction campaign is aggressively pursued to restore China's formerly grandeur state. To stimulate economic recovery, paid wages are heightened, allowing households to purchase more basic necessities (with subsidized prices) as well as to indulge in luxury consumption, eventually resulting in a positive-feedback loop. To keep the national treasury afloat midst the financial demands of recovery, corvée labour is banned, requiring taxes to be paid in a monetary medium (such as banknotes or coinage). Meanwhile, a system of indentured servitude for tenant farmers is enacted, in which the landowner and the tenant must sign a contract for a fixed number of years; replacing the system of leasehold estates. With Siam rejecting the reestablishment of tributary missions, and hearing of its annexation of Cambodia, a punitive expedition is launched against it, hoping to install a more loyalist regime.
    • Yakutia: With the nascent state being vigorously populated, settlers are encouraged to adopt a sedentary agrarian lifestyle, renouncing their lives as semi-nomadic herders. A palace is built in the capital of Kun (now inhabited by a thousand residents), with its designs borrowing extensively from Korean architecture. The Khan converts under the Sakhan Church of the East, and while permitting religious freedom, installs Sakhan Nestorianism as the state religion. Wheat is cultivated as the primary grain, helping to reduce reliance on imports from Korea. However, a significant aquaculture cultivating seaweeds and fish develops.
  • France: With the Iberians attacking the Kingdom of Navvare, the 24,000 troops in Pamplona hold out against the Iberian attack, With the Iberians continuing to flaunt their aggression a new force is raised within France of 90,000 men with 15,000 men attacking the Iberian force at Lyon while the remaining 75,000 forces continuing on the march to the south crossing the Durance at Avignon before marching east following the Durance until north of Aix- en Provence and then turning south to relieve Marseilles and then continuing onto relieve Toloun with the army inside of Toloun sortieing out to take out the army surrounding it. The 15,000 strong force following up from the battle north of Lyon get to Aix- en la Provence and then move east to Brignoles before turning south and marching upon the unoccupied Hyeres where they dig in while fighting occurs in Toloun. So if the Iberian forces tries to fall back it has nowhere to go. Meanwhile in the north of France as the war with Burgundy continues although with the peace option on the table the french feel the need to support their dutch republic since no peace offers have come off. 5,000 men are fortified in Namur and Charleroi each while a force of 50,000 advances along the north bank of the Meuse with the goal of Liege or Maastrict first as a distraction. There hasn't been much fighting near here so supply lines are secure and a fleet of river barges are assembled to move supplies downstream to keep the french army going. Once/ if this army is beaten by a Burgundian army it is ordered to fall back into France and defend Saint- Quentin and surrounding areas. A few days after the initial march down the Meuse the force in Nieuwport set off first attacking Ostend, then Ghent before assuming swift seizures of these places makes a move towards Antwerp and not crossing the Shcedt river, 20,000 men are left on the western banks of the Schedt and ordered to dig in while the remaining 50,000 return to Neuiwport reinforcing Brussels with another 5,000 soldiers as well. The dug in forces west of Antwerp can fire cannons and launch night time river raids against Antwerp shutting it down as a port. There is a worry about supply but the abundance of rivers allowing a large fleet of assembled river barges to ferry supplies to the troops and the fact that this land has not yet been crossed by the war which means food can be confiscated this time. The garrisons in the forts on the Pyrenees are maintained while soldiers in Marseilles continue to resist. Whether this is successful or not we launch another 30 English ships towards Neuiwport. Paris has 15,000 soldiers defending it, there are 5,000 troops in Reims, Epernay, Chalons en Champagne, Bar de luc and Mácon.
    • You said last year that there were no troops there, now that Iberia has occupied the area, you don't get to that all of a sudden there's 24k troops behind Iberian lines. -Guy
    • I agree that troop figures should be mentioned or they shouldn't count at all. It's extremely frustrating when things like this are mentioned in retrospect. I was under the impression that there were no troops in Navarre whatsoever. -General
    • Im inclined to agree with General and Guy, no retroactivity here please -Feud
    • Allowing retroactivity can only end badly. ~Cal
    • The Dutch Republic does not exist until your treaty is signed by everyone. Stop making things up. Also, you are France and you are launching English ships? -General
  • Great Iberia: King John is pleased at Benin's decision to cede Fernando Pó without conflict. Emboldened, he asks Swahili to do the same with Mozambique Island. Sugarcane is planted in abundance on Fernando Pó, becoming the island's primary export. The Benguela colony expands southward along the coast to OTL Lucira. 5,000 troops are sent to Maiam to quell the small uprisings and restore order to the colony. The Iberian government is alarmed that Maiam would consider itself a "nation", and it becomes clear that Maiam has been allowed too much autonomy. Seeing as how Maiam has been mostly unaffected by the Franco-Burgundian War, the Maian government is blamed for not taking action against the rebels and stirring rebellious sentiment in the first place. As a response to these events, and as part of a wider planned administrative reform, Maiam, Nova Galiza, Mêcicipi, and Nova Lusitânia are placed under the rule of a viceroy (similar to the OTL Viceroyalty of New Spain). While still keeping their internal autonomy, they are subject to the viceroy, who is in turn subject to the King of Iberia. Amazonia is divided, with the western part becoming known as Aruaque, and the eastern part as Maranhão. The Iberian explorer Luís Araújo de Queiros explores the Pacific in search of Terra Australis, discovering the Vanuatu archipelago, charting the southern coast of Papua, and finally the northern tip of Australia near where Fernando Bonaventura landed years ago. In his report, he acknowledges the peninsula as a northern branch of the southern continent, making it the first conscious discovery of Australia. He names the OTL Torres Strait the "Strait of Bonaventura" in honor of his predecessor. In Europe, the siege of Hendaye is broken, and the Iberian army retreats to Irun to hold a defensive position over the mountain pass. Fortifications are built on the opposite side of the river. The army in Provence surrounds the city of Toulon on all sides, and the port is blockaded by sea, preventing the French from leaving without fighting in open battle. 15,000 troops (including 5,000 mercenaries) are landed in Provence, laying siege to Marseille. An army of 4,000 also cuts north to Lyon, linking up with Burgundian territory. 9 new ships are built this year at various ports in Portugal, Galicia, Granada, and Valencia.
    • Iberian Diplomacy to Papal States: Seeing many European nations turn against the Pope, we send diplomats to the Papal States to reaffirm our loyalty to the Church.
    • OOC Person: since when has Lyon been Burgundian
  • Benin: With the construction of the new capital underway, built over the ruins of a long abandoned city, Oba Ogbebe begins to concern himself with the economic health of the empire. Seeking to diversify the economy, in the case of crop failure or disease, the Oba promotes other industries in the urban centers throughout the realm. The Oba personally pays for the creation of new gunsmithing, tailoring, fishing, and agricultural businesses in order to bring about said diversification. In fear of being seen as a militarily weak and passive Oba by the court, high-ranking officials, and generals, Ogbebe sends another dispatch of envoys across the Sahara to the Rashidun, in an effort to reclaim the territory of Benin stolen by their vassal. Nonetheless, we are grateful for the copies of the legendary Greek works send by the Arabs. We readily implement some of the ideas read in the manuscripts, such as democracy on the village-level and popular assemblies in the capital, where commoners and freemen may present issues to the Oba personally.
    • Rashidun dip: Ogbebe is given a generous tour of the Museum of Alexandria, the Kaaba in Mecca, and the Grand Mosque of Cairo. Benin is told that those territories, of relatviely small population and resources, are only necessary for facilitating easier trade with Morocco across the Atlantic coast, but some agreement could be made for giving them back in the future.
  • Sinkyone:We send even more people to OTL Gold beach oregon which at this point has become a actualy small village with the name Ikadal and its population of 500 people. We also have now domesticated Elks to have stronger backs so that they can have loads on their back and carry material and not just plough the ground. We also get more farmers and wintu and the Lassik population have all adopted farming.we also bring the technology of agreculture to Wiyot and our ally Wailiki.
  • Tsardom of Belka: The quick capitulation of venice against the new professional armies of Belka adds credence to the new system and with venice have essentially ended its dominion over the various italian cities it has held sway over, the Tsar invites a council of all the city leaders of former Venetian north Italy in Trieste. The meeting conducted essentially does not dismantle the entity in italy but rather reorganizes it into the Italian League. An organization which takes all the major cities located within its domain who are given an equal voice in electing a leader to represent the whole. Its just a grander principle of the merchant republic. In this case too the "venetian" fleet is to be repurposes into the fleet of the Italian league. Belka is to be the Guarentor of the Italian league for a period of 15 years until it is developed enough to fend for itself. Then it will be given its sovereignty back in full. With italy being reorganized while under occupation of the Belkan forces, the reserve troops are pulled out and allowed to return home. The population grows to groughly 10.7 million and growing. The economy starts to regain traction now with its old trade routes fully restored and the domestic economy showing great promise of expansion specifically in the developing transylvania. The Tsar allocates funds for the modernization of the Belkan highway network as well as tacking on an addendum to build the highways into Transylvania.
    • Scandinavian diplomacy to the Papacy: We refuse to open our core lands to Catholic influence, hence why we rejected these outrageous terms.
    • Papal DIplomacy: The Secretary realises there has been a misunderstanding: the terms were only intended to relate to the Scandinavian territories of Oldenburg and the Hebrides, as well as any formerly-Catholic-controlled colonies Scandinaia may gain in the future; hardly Scandinavia's core lands. The Secretary also points out that permitting the Catholic populations in such places could only be a good thing for general stability amongst the populace. He also reiterates his openness to a counter-offer.
  • Papal States: The Pope thanks Hispania for their kind reiteration of loyalty, and sends some missionaries to the new Portuguese colonies in Africa. In the musical world, Wolfenburg releases his second opera: it is about the Anatolian Crusade, and depicts the Ottomans as cowardly villains. In an about-face from Wolfenburg's previous works, the Russian character is depicted as brave and pious, no doubt to emphasise the evil-ness of the Ottomans. The opera is another immense success, with Pope Zachary loving it and paying for a staging of it in the Colisseum with free entry. Thus maby of Roe's poor are able to see the spectacle. With Venice falling so quickly to Belka, the Pope sends an ambassador to the Belkan commander, asking whether the previous Papal-Venetian agreement to keep the border demilitarised could be honoured by the new administration. Missions continue in the New World, Southern Africa, Korea-China, and Japan. Assistance is given to the Sakhan Church of the East.
  • Kingdom of Burgundy: while peace negotiations are underway, Graaf Lasser continues his reorganization of his downsized force. The new units, bolstered by newly hired mercenaries, are repeatedly trained in the new tactics, and artillery is given a new prioritization, after the effects of massed cannon fire are made evident in the Belkan Crusade. The newly christened Army of the West, is stationed at Herselt, and extensive fortifications are made should the French attempt to push. With news of the French advances towards Ostend and Liege, the Army of the West is dispatched to deal with the army advancing on Antwerp, engaging them at the city of St-Niklaas. After successfully blunting their advance towards Antwerp, the Army of the West moves back to the south as it considers moving against the army advancing on Liege.
The treaty of Brussels is acknowledged and signed while the we are still ready to negotiate with the current Burgundian king and regime.A naval sortie is launched out of Dunkirk with 30 English ships (good ships) moving out of the Dunkirk waters and keeping near to the coast to get to Nieuwport where we move into the port.
  • Russia: We continue to expand 40px into Siberia. Work on the Far East section of the Siberian road continues. Continued farming of South Siberia continues with more land cleared. In the rivers of the north continued hunting of Sea Otters and Beavers continues to bring in large stocks into the Fur Market. The Tsar begins to see the idea of Belka uniting the southern Slavs, and Russia uniting the Northern Slavs. The Tsar begins plans to prepare for an invasion of Kiev, but plans to respect Kiev Princedom. The Tsars reasoning's, take the homeland of the original Rus which was destroyed by the Mongol Tartar invaders. The process of relocation in Siberia ends and we go along the 1645 borders. The 35,000 soldiers return home. In Markovgrad, instructions are received from the Governor building in Omsk, an order of 10 galleons, 30 frigates, and 15 carracks. This is the beginning of the Pacific Fleet. Many former militia men out of work go on the long road to Markovgrad to work. The schooners of the Pacific squadron found a small settlement in a natural bay/harbor which they call Severnyy Bereg, North Shore (OTL Magadan). We sail part of our fleet through the Copenhagen Straits off the coast of Jutland as a show of naval force to the western naval powers. It properly returns back to port in Rurikgrad and Riga.
    • Poland: Poland begins to train a large force of 40,000 men for territory of Poles within Kiev.
    • English Arcadia: With King Willaim's war concluded, we finish peace talks with Burgendy (Map available soon), and occupy the new territory. We send 10,000 troops to combat the Natives invading our territory, but secretly funnel aid to the Iroquois attacking Burgundy.
  • Swahili: We continue our agriculture policies. The royal guards continue convincing contracted servants. Areas interior to Mobassa and Malindi is colonized. We also send out conquistadors to expand northwards into more northern Somalia. We continue development of Madagascar. We continue trading food and goods with Europe and the Caliphate. The colony in Orungu also receives a boon from the trade, and we station 1,000 guards at the colony. Akida goes to Belka and Veneto.
    • Swahili Dip to Iberia: We reject Iberia's offer taking it as a great insult..
    • Swahili Dip to Veneto : We propose a trade agreement
    • Swahili Dip to Belka: We propose a trade agreement

1652

Knowledge of agriculture spreads from Sinkyone to various tribes not direcly contacting them, located across OTL California, Nevada, and British Columbia.

The former states of Venice terri firma agree to join the Italian League, and quickly work to modernize the nations land forces and economy.

Churches mixing Latin and Northern rite continue to spread in northern Germany.

The years after the Anatolian Crusade (more formally known as "The Great Turkish War") has allowed knowledge of technology and tactics of Belka spread into central Europe and northern Italy.

King William's War reaches an end with the Shawnee and Susquehana tribes crushed by the English forces, while the Iroqois establishes some control over OTL upstate New York and a little of northern Pennsylvania.

  • Papal States: The Papal envoy to the Belkan commander reiterates the Pope's humble request that the new administration in the Italian League, and the Belkan troops stationed there, consider honouring the previous Papal-Venetian agreement to keep the border demilitarised, which helps keep trade flowing across the peninsula. The Secretary for Foreign Relations reiterates to Scandinavia's ambassador that he believes that there has been a misunderstanding, and that the proposal was only meant to relate to previously-Catholic-controlled Scandinavian territories, not the 'core territories' of the Scandinavian peninsula. The mixed-rite churches in northern Germany are given tentative recognition by the Pope, who authorises the Archbishop of Cologne, as Patriarch of the Empire, to make provisions for their particular Germanic forms of worship under the Imperial Synod, provided there is no doctrinal heterodoxy [MODS: since the Northern and Latin rites are both Catholic, I am assuming (and it only makes sense) that these guys are catholic, just of a novel liturgical tradition]. Two competing cafes open in Rome, and rumour has it that the Pope has visited both. The Congregation for Canonisations announces the confirmation of cultus of Charlemagne, allowing him to be honoured by the universal church as 'Blessed Charles the Great'. Missions continue in the New World, Southern Africa (including the new Portuguese colonies there), Japan, and Korea-China, and assistance continues for the Sakhan Church.
  • Sinkyone:We expand our village Ikadal to 1 000 and there also pops up a village on Lake Diltwa Wintuye this village named Armeq also make the first boats made out of a kind of grass this is used for in land river boats. Our Elks become because of domistication and a diet of tomatoes strong but their horns become small with males.
  • Tsardom of Belka: The reorganization and rehabilitation of the new Italian League continues, this leads to Belkan troops instituting their training regimen to the leagues troops, as well as arming them. General Mikhail Korolev is given the task of bringing the Italians into the modern military age as he specifically helps in the training of nearly 30,000 troops for the Italians. The Administrative divisions of the league are set up with Venice, Verona, Trent, Urbino and Ravenna set up as the equal cities. Venice and Ravenna operate as the port and trade cities, and the rest are production powerhouses which get italian goods to the trade markets. The army is set up as a collective entity with the cities all forced to provide troop strength based on the population. The Economy while rudimentary is set up on a solid foundation. The Tsardom itself still continues attempting to urbanize some of its other cities specifically Sofiya, Tarnovo, and Oured hoping of matching the huge urban rate of Vasiligrad. The Tsar continues growing older and begins thinking about the transfer of power to his son. His son Constantine now 18 also prepares himself for rulership.
  • Great Union of Korea and China: The government continues the endorsement of neo–Confucianism as the national philosophy, but the Emperor maintains a heterodox stance; allowing the proliferation of new branches offering new reinterpretations of Confucius' teachings. Monopoly over the printing and minting industries are restored, allowing inflation to be quelled through restrictions in production. In the absence of competitors, chaebol firms begin penetrating through the Chinese market and dominating the financial sector. With the utilization of extensive funds, a five-year reconstruction campaign is aggressively pursued to restore China's formerly grandeur state. To stimulate economic recovery, paid wages are heightened, allowing households to purchase more basic necessities (with subsidized prices) as well as to indulge in luxury consumption, eventually resulting in a positive-feedback loop. The Korean Nestorian Church sends missionaries to the tributaries of Tondo and Japan to introduce the Korean branch of Nestorian Christianity. Occupied Siam is split into three; Cambodia comprising of the former Khmer Empire, Thailand comprising Siam proper, and Laos comprising of the lands inhabited by the Isan people (sans the Isan plateau, which is administered under Thailand). A small part of the Mekong Delta facing South China Sea is given to Champa. All three nascent states are admitted under the tributary system, with Thailand being vassalized and installing a new royal family. Emissaries are sent to the Bengal Sultanate, warning that it will face a punitive expedition if it does not give immediate independence to Ahom, Pegu, the Shan states and Bhutan.
    • Yakutia: With the nascent state being vigorously populated, settlers are encouraged to adopt a sedentary agrarian lifestyle, renouncing their lives as semi-nomadic herders. Wheat is cultivated as the primary grain, helping to reduce reliance on imports from Korea. However, a significant aquaculture cultivating seaweeds and breeding fish develops.
  • Great Iberia: The Iberian fleet patrols the northern coast of France, intercepting any attempts to move ships through the English Channel. Both sides of the channel are blockaded, preventing all Anglo-French naval traffic. In coordination with the Burgundian fleet, repeated attacks are carried out against the Anglo-French navies. 12 fireships are sailed into the Yser Canal in Nieuwpoort, inflicting heavy damage to the anchored English fleet, followed by the arrival of 42 Iberian ships to engage the remaining ships. 9 additional ships are sent to the Bay of Biscay to reinforce the blockade there. The French fleet sailing from Dunkirk is intercepted by two Iberian fleets in the Bay of Biscay. The French ships are scattered and funneled into multiple smaller engagements, with some battles occurring off the southern coast of Brittany and others as far south as Galicia. They are effectively cut off from reinforcements by the ubiquitous Iberian presence. The English fleet sailing from Portsmouth clashes with 50 Iberian ships somewhere in the open sea between Portsmouth and Le Havre. Burgundy is asked to send reinforcements to help defeat the scattered English fleets. 25 Burgundian ships are directed to reinforce the fleet outside Niewuport, while the rest are directed to patrol the channel and attack enemy ships on sight. Meanwhile, the blockade of Mediterranean France continues. The siege of Marseilles is broken and the army retreats by land to Catalonia. The army in Toulon retreats to La Londe-les-Maures. In the Iberian peninsula, 10,000 troops are garrisoned south of Le Perthus in Catalonia to guard the mountain pass. 15,000 troops are moved from Irun to Galicia in order to reduce logistical stress. 4,000 more are moved to San Sebastián and Pamplona (2,000 each). The remaining 15,000 in Irun continue to fortify their positions along the river and mountainside. Being in such close proximity to Hendaye, they get certain townspeople to carry messages across to the enemy garrison, usually containing insults, greetings, or jokes. During the winter, soldiers of both sides gather on Pheasant Island (deemed "neutral ground") to exchange gifts. Having defeated the Mayan rebels, the army in Maiam is transferred to Hispaniola. 15,000 troops are transported to Hispaniola from mainland Iberia in preparation for a colonial war. São Atto (OTL São Luís) and its surrounding fort are garrisoned by 1,000 troops. Tortuga becomes a base for privateers operating against English and French shipping in the Caribbean. A settlement forms around Fort São Sebastião on Mozambique Island. A chapel is built in the east wing of the fort. 500 troops are garrisoned on the island.
  • After a few years of experimentation, the Nʉmʉnʉ under peace chief Nocoma have now established a small but growing population of relatively domesticated bison that is regularly supplemented by new captures from the native population. Now, as spring comes, the Nʉmʉnʉ experience a large increase in bison and puuku (horses) numbers. Nocoma declares to the haitsii that the time has come to fulfill his lifelong dream of reamining in one place, which is met with great resistance from many of the other elders. "Why did the great spirits give us the puuku if we were just to remain stationary?" asked war chief Okaartsu. Nocoma decides that the best way to show his dream to the haitsii is to take them to the lands of the Pueblo, and so begins a migration to that region of the Southern Rocky Mountains. By mid-summer, the People have arrived. While Nocoma advises a peaceful approach, Okaartsu convinces the haitsii that a traditional raid would best serve the Nʉmʉnʉ. In the ensuing raid, the first Pueblo village is utterly destroyed, but some agricultural elements remain in the outskirts. "This is the glorious food of settlement," Nocoma proclaims after the raid, "and it is what I have seen for our people." The haitsii are still unconvinced, and decide to promote Okaartsu as peace chief as well as war chief, for the first time unifying the crucial positions. Okaartsu begins a series of raids throughout the summer and into the fall on the Pueblo peoples, but then migrates back to wintering grounds as the leaves finish falling from the trees.
  • Armenian Kingdom of Cilicia: After 3 centuries of suppression and indignity the Cilician Armenians are now free and have gained their long lost freedom. The Upper class Cilician Armenians, who are french influenced and are roman catholic along with the plurality of the people in the nation, decide upon a king of Cilicia. James de Lusignan, a descendant of the last king of Armenia, the kings of jerusalem, and the kings of cyprus is invited to the throne of Cilicia. To which he takes the name King Leo VII of Cilicia. The capitol is changed to the "Pearl of the  Mediterranean" Hadrianopolis. The King's Coronation is celebrated on the holy day of Good Friday. No official moves have been made towards deciding what denomination of christianity the country will follow. But the government seems to be leaning towards the catholic armenian church. The Kingdom sends out diplomats to the caliphate, belka, Sicily, Papal States, and Great Iberia hoping to begin diplomatic relations (Player Response). Bandits in Cilicia begin to conduct raids on Dulkadir so far however no evidence has been made to connect them with the Cilician government.
    • Iberian Diplomacy: We agree to improve relations and urge Cilicia to remain Catholic, seeing the need for a strong Catholic state in the Mediterranean to balance the Orthodox and Islamic powers.
    • Papal Diplomacy: The Pope welcomes the Cilician diplomat and offers support to the newly-free country. His Holiness also leaves open an offer to acept the Armenian Cilician church as a sui iuris Eastern-rite church if that would suit.
  • France: We offer Burgundy a truce in which there will be a halt on both sides to offensive actions maintaining current on lands and all enemy war ships will not be allowed to be based below Holland's diep but naval action may still continue. As Burgundy refuses the truce offer fighting continues, in the north Namur, Charleroi, Maastrict are all held by 3,300 fortified troops while 50,000 troops are held at Liege supplied by river barges and prepare defences on both banks of the river against an enemy attack. If the enemy attempt to push inwards into Belgium this force has the option of pushing to Antwerp or further north. Ghent and Brussels each have 10,000 troops holding them. A french force of 60,000 is held at Lille ready to move on Antwerp if the force in Belgium leaves Antwerp open for attack or if they attempt to push into Belgium. French troops start raiding land east of Troyes burning crops and looting as well as killing villagers in an attempt to cause famine. An additional 30,000 are raised to replace losses in the south and are dispatched as reinforcements. Having failed to totally defeat the Iberian force last turn but pushing them back a force of 10,000 troops moves north to Pierrefeu-du-Var before marching east and then turning south where they split into 2 equal forces with a force west of Brégançon and another one north of Lake du Trapan, these 2 forces both dig in between hills and water to block another Iberian retreat when the main force hits them. 140,000 troops now with reinforcements attacks the Iberian force at La Londe- las- Maures with full force intending to force them to retreat to sea. A force of 40 ships is sent out of Dunkirk and to sail to Rochefort and may fight enemy ships. French east India company declares neutrality.
    • Burgundian dip: without the inclusion of Burgundys ally Iberia in the truce, the offer is respectfully declined, and instead a general truce on all fronts is suggested while a peace is negotiated.
    • Iberian Diplomacy: We agree to peace only under the Burgundian terms, with no territorial changes to Iberia and a 15-year truce between all participants.
    • Maian Dip:  Maiam has officially declared independence from Iberia, and seeks recognition and support from France.
  • Kingdom of England, Ireland and Scotland: Seeing the massive desertions in France as supply chains collapse this is looked upon with dismay but the declaration of the dutch republic is considered good news at having survived and the capture of Ostend and Ghent. There is also sastifacation at holding Nieuwport and forces their construct a chain boom and have 3,300 English troops defending the city meaning the enemy have to land and cut the chain boom. With the war going well in Arcadia this is appreciated but there is still concern well aware the war is in it's early. There is little change from the previous year with the same forces holding the same positions in England while forces assigned to fighting Arcadia do so under the command of the Governor of the Arcadian colonies. Privateers continue to hit belligerent shipping in the English channel and north sea as well as expanding operations to the Atlantic ocean to target Iberian shipping as well. . England has 5.4 million people, Wales has 0.5 million Ireland has 1.6 m to million people and Scotland 1.0 million people. A force of 40 ships is assembled in Portsmouth moves out to patrol the English channel clashing with enemy ships presumably.
    • Maian Dip:  Maiam has officially declared independence from Iberia, and seeks recognition and support from England.
  • Russia: We expand south to the Yakutian Border and we continue to expand 40px into Siberia. We estimate time for our pacific fleets completion at 1670. Continued Prepareation for the war with Kiev continues. The Construction of the Irkutsk-Sakhatsk Section of the Siberian Road continues. The Army primarily focusus on Musketeers and now usage of heavy artillery. More guns are produced in Siberia for the increased weapon demand with the pelt hunting. We also begin upgrading out Pacific Harbor Facilities in Severnyy Bereg and Markovgrad. Many retired Cossack soldiers settle in Markovgrad and Severnyy Bereg. We start to train up 450,000 soldiers for the invasion of Kiev. Already trained soldiers from the Zionviy Uprising begin to train the Polish Army of 40,000 that is being gathered. General Yuri Krukov, a veteran of the Uprising, begins to train Polish General Mort Warkowsky in the tactics of the war.
  • Kingdom of Burgundy: with word of the Iberians sortie against the English, a fleet of 60 ships are sent to the area to patrol for English ships and to detach ships as reinforcements should they be needed.
  • Bengal Sultanate: The Bengali Sultan has met with the leader of Burma for the treaty last year. In conclusion, all of the land that the Burmese had owned is now apart of Bengal. The Sultan after the treaty had delivered the following speech:" People of Burma, Ahom, and Bengal" We come together today for one thing and one thing only. We come here to talk about Unity. Our people have been long divided for years and only now we stand united with a stand for victory and peace. But our fight is not yet over. There are many nations that still threaten our very existence. But we shall stand strong. We shall prevail at the very end united as one.All the things that have been lost shall and will in due time be rebuilt. But may I say for one thing and one thing only. We shall never surrender! We are unique with various ethnicities and profiles. And yet we are together. For the powers in the north and west of us,We shall not fall into their grasp. We are powerful. We are together. And yet there is room for more unity. So as of now,While we are in post-war,I only hope for one thing. And that is our survival. For anything that comes our way.We shall fight at our ports. We shall fight in the valleys. We shall fight on the mountains. And at the end, through all the conflictions,We shall prevail. So I ask for this one thing and one thing only.I ask for our people to stand united. Throughout whatever comes our way.I ask we shall stay as one. No matter what we shall fight for our very existence.I do not now what god or higher being you believe, but one thing is for certain. With our faith, we shall stand victorious. We shall not be poor but a nation of riches. We shall not be a nation in shambles but a nation of beauty. We shall not give up.I have seen through the war, that our nation was still thriving. And If it was still growing, Then that means there is still room for improvement. So let's work together.Stay together. And stay united!" Many crowds cheered afterward believing in the Sultan's words and hopes of unity and prosperity for the nation. The population in the nation is now 31.05 million people. The workforce of the nation has grown significantly leading to low rates of poverty in the nation. Ships and trade have increased in the nation significantly. Mining has become more and more common. 23,000 men have been recruited into the military over the last 2 years. More Naval battleships have been built. Farming has also grown more common in the valleys. The nation was also divided into 4 districts this year. The districts are Bhutan, Burma, Ahom, And Bengali. Each sector is run by a royal governor.45% of the nation are now wealthy as well. Institutions and Universities have grown. The Teavana continues to be the most popular ship in the nation. The Freeway is only 3 years away from completion and works on a vast sewer network has begun to keep areas clean and keep areas for the most part, odor-free. Construction of a wall on the Aryavartan border has begun. It is expected to span across the whole border and stand 32 feet tall to protect the country from possible invasions. The nation has also expanded on construction. Rivers have become areas of trade with ports lingering across the area and a growing nation moving forward and deeper into the modern era.
  • Maiam: Maiam revolts against the oppressive Iberian regime and their oppressive hold on the nation. Major ports are seized and Iberian vessels commissioned into the already growing Maian fleet. Messengers are sent to nearby Mecicipi and Amazonia to encourage them to take up arms as well. The Emperor urges all the citizens of Maiam to remember that while Iberia turned a blind eye to them, the government of Maiam never forgot any of its 'children'. Maiam's population now reflects about half native Mayan and Mexican and half European, with a large mixed-race population. Expansion continues along the northern and southern borders, focusing on the coast. Trade continues up from Amazonia and down from Mecicipi, and these trade routes are kept up. Maiam, seeking to become more self-reliant, begins building its own navy and armories.

1653

A great leader emerges to take control of the Italian League, from the seat of its government in Venice, named Polydore Morosini. He works to improve friendly relations with Belka and uses their help to rebuild the nation, while also maintaining his loyalty to the Pope. Morosini also adopts Pietism and allows its prosyltization in the nation.

China begins to suffer logistical strain from campaigning so far south. (you are going a little too far).

Another, more moderate famine across Anatolia in the wake of the Great Turkish War. Taking advantage of this, Pontus invades and conquers the two gray NPCs on its southern border.

  • Maiam: Maiam continues its revolution against the Iberian tyrants. Maian soldiers are mustered and sent to defend strategic locations in case of Iberian retaliation. More ports are seized and Iberian vessels commissioned into the already growing Maian fleet. Messengers are sent to nearby Mecicipi and Amazonia to encourage them to take up arms as well. A large group of messengers is sent to Europe to ask for recognition and support. England, France, Russia and Belka are all contacted. Some messengers are sent to Prussia and Burgundy as well. Maiam, seeking to become more self-reliant, continues building its own navy and armories.
  • Great Iberia: Within Iberia and the colonies, the Mayan revolt is painted as a rejection of years of Iberian support for the Mayan people. The natives are viewed as ungrateful and untrustworthy, and European settlers (especially in neighboring colonies) are promised land and wealth of their own in Maiam in exchange for bringing the colony back under the Iberian Crown. This results in internal and external hostility against the Mayans as Europeans attempt to carve out their own territory from the Maian state, and ultimately a revival of the conquistadors throughout the colonies. With peace negotiations underway, fighting slows down in Europe, although the Burgundian side retains naval superiority. The army in Provence is transported to Valencia by ship, withdrawing the last Iberian forces from France. They are instead placed in defense of the Iberian Peninsula. Lisbon is garrisoned by 5,000 troops, Bilbao and Barcelona by 1,000 each. (More to come tomorrow)
  • Maipure-Muisca Confederation: in the northern Amazon, residual groups of natives fleeing the devastation of the Iberian colonization, mainly Chibcha and Arawakan-language speakers, have been collecting for decades, along with escaped slaves and criminals. They adopt the Maipure language as their lingua franca, but are heavily influenced by the remnants of the Muisca Confederation, who fled the Colombian highlands after the Iberian colonization. One of these, claiming to be the son of Aquiminzaque, last of the "zaques" or kings of the Muisca Confederation, is able to marry the daughter of a paramount Maipure chieftain and thereby attain sway over a considerable area of the Upper Amazon rainforest, naming himself Aquiminzaque II. Hearing of the Maya's exhortations to rWe offevolt, he leads gathers thousands of warriors and leads them northward in attack, and they are rapidly joined by slaves, as well as the oppressed indigenous peoples of Iberian Amazonia. He promises the abolition of the oppressive encomienda system of forced labour and the return of Spanish landowners' territories to their enslaved or indigenous inhabitants. He is able to mobilize 4000 warriors from his and allied tribes, plus another 6000 rebels (I'm basing these numbers off of Tupac Amarau II's similar OTL revolt), and with many conquistador landowners absent attacking the Maya, is able to destroy Iberian militias piecemeal and advance on Bogota. Copying the Maya, he seeks recognition and aid from England and France, while also offering Maiam an alliance.
    • An educated native priest sympathetic to Aquiminzaque II's cause is sent to the Papal States bearing a copy of the Papal encyclical Sublimis Dei and 10,000 individual statements recording Iberian oppression, enslavement and abuse of natives by conquistadors which violate the encyclical. Noting that the Maipure-Muisca are Christian, he begs the Pope's intercession to help them free themselves from Iberia's oppression.
  • Benin: With the capital of the new capital nearly completed nearing the end of the year, Oba Ogbebe orders the creation of a new holiday to commemorate the capital, with the approval of the imperial legislature. Taking from the Oba's subsidies, industries of gunsmithing, tailoring, and fishing begin to flourish in the empire's main cities, espicially in the developed eastern regions of the realm. Having personally travelling over the Sahara to demand the return of Benin's rightful territory, the aristocrats and generals of Benin who demanded martial aggression, against the colonists, are placated for the time being. During the Oba's visit to the Caliphate, he witnesses the modern capabilities of the Arabian military. With no martial talent within himself, the Oba requests military advisers, weaponry, and canons from the Caliphate, Iberia, and any other yet unknown European powers. In return, the Oba offers convicted criminals, captives of war from the border regions of the empire, and gold.
    • England Diplomacy: We offer military advisers, muskets and cannons to Benin in exchange for slaves.
    • Benin Diplomacy: The Oba and imperial legislature agrees. A new elite army of 1,000 men is formed in the new capital, exclusively to capture barbarians in the nether regions of the empire to be sold into slavery.
