Principia Moderni IV (Map Game)

The Ming Dynasty still rules over the vast lands of China. On the other side of the world, the Hundred Years War continues between England and France. Europe is still stuck in the old ways of feudalism and chivalry while the notions of a New World are considered figments of imagination.

We welcome you to the long awaited fourth expansion of that immortal series. Welcome to Principia Moderni IV! Starting in 1400 AD, this is the dawn of the modern world and the tail end of the Middle Ages. The Renaissance is just kicking off in Europe, while the nations in the western side of the continent are locked in the last gasp of the Hundred Years War. The Muslim world is still reeling from the invasions of Turks and Mongols, with the Caliphate resting in the collapsing Mamluk Egypt and the Ottomans on the rise in Anatolia. Make it count.

The first game was the most successful on the wiki, leading all the way to the modern day with mostly plausible posts and little controversy. The second game reached almost to the modern day, but failed due to a plethora of ASB events and moderator bias. The third game was much more worthy of the first, almost running into implausibility but climbing back into a shining glory by the end. Riding on the latest reforms of map games since the end of PMIII, this is the most logical next step in that evolution. Remember above all other rules — have fun.

Moderator Strikes

These are strikes for moderators and how they moderate. The same three strikes rules apply. If a moderator is banned from moderating, however, they can still play as their nation. Mod strikes can be delivered in one of three ways:

1. If a sufficient number of players (more than half of all players voting) vote to give a moderator a strike.
2. If I, Scraw, give them a strike.
3. If a majority of all mods (ie more than half of the total number of mods, excluding that moderator) vote to give a moderator a strike.

Moderators can be given strikes for the following reasons:

1. Exhibiting bias that would benefit the nation they are playing.
2. Exhibiting bias that would negatively affect a player they have a personal dispute with.
3. Making a ruling that contradicts a proven fact from OTL or an established fact from earlier in the game.
4. Overruling a decision of a majority of moderators.

Alchemical experiments around Europe cause varying results. Some places, accidents ocurr and bodyparts are permanently damaged, but in others, the hunt for the philosopher's stone goes well as Enlightenment followers learn more about the natural state of materials.

Maharasthra and Rajasthan do not join with Bengal, but instead ally with each other against the impending British and Muslim forces. The Thugee cult has establisehd a fully organized monothesitic religion in both of these states under an uknown individual known only as Guru Nanak. (Note: these aren't actual nation names, the indian nation in this time period are nowhere similar to India's provinces in modern day OTL)

The Catholic, Orthodox, and Coptic churches are close to a full agreement in the Council of Alexandria [guys let's try to wrap this up].

Sicily's influence in Italy causes stirring within the states of the Italian League, with some cities and villages on the peninsula siding with the political and philosophical stances of the Kingdom and the Papacy.

• Maghreb: Maghrebi sailors voyaging to Angola establish a fort in Cabinda. A petroleum seep occurs in Tunis and a Maghrebi alchemist begins to study the substance that comes out of it. Maghreb also sends sailors to the Gambia to establish a fort there. The Sultan also begins several projects to build universities, advocating for a secular aquisition of knowledge. They also begin contacting pirates to get them to turn into mercenaries for Maghreb to minimize the diplomatic damage of the pirates in the mediterranean. Maghreb sends an envoy to Belkas and the Italian League in hope of an alliance against the the Kingdom of Sicily (Player Response).
  • ' Tajammanid Emirate: The Emir leads a small Jihad into areas north of the emirate, conquering and converting a few mapuche tribes. They expand '50 px into Patagonia. The settlement of Tajamman becomes more developed.

• Ethiopian Empire: Emperor Theodore II retires to his grand palace in Medinah Jamil, surrounded by rows of stunning Baroque art from themes of the Bible and Ethiopian history. In the ten years since the end of the Second Arab-Ethiopian War, the economy and infrsatructure of Ethiopia has been completely revived and strengthened to its best capacity, especially by the harvest of natural resources for the nation. Cotton, coffee and gold are the main exports. The navy and military are completely upgraded to modern tactics, but the hardware remains the way it was before the war. However, the navy is only contained as ships within the Nile River. The native Ethiopian culture is completely revived, with the only addition of Arab baroque for art and music. The standard Amharic language becomes ubiquitous across the nation. A new rock hewn church is constructed in Alexandria. The Solomonic royal family lives comfortably in the palace of Medinah Jamil. Theodore's wife, Queen Layla, raises her three children, which are one son and two daughters.
• Sultanate of Cyprus: In February of the year 1730, Sultan Jalil make his governmental reforms, mostly called the Mujtamae Reforms, which he promised the previous year. With the reforms, he create eight bureaucratic organizations known as Mujtamae, each one covering an aspect of society and politic (Trade, Navy, Army, Justice, Construction, Coinage, Urban life and Rural life). As such, foreign merchants must now register to the Mujtamae Altijara (Trade) in order to trade on Cyprus. The Sultan also decide that since he is already escorting the Caliphate's traders to India, it would be a waste to not use this opportunity to trade with India themselves. As such, Cypriot ships which travel to India will now also escort Cypriot merchants and, to boost registration at the Mujtamae Altijara, will escort any foreign merchant registered at the Mujtamae Altijara (in exchange of a cut in the profits, of course). The Sultan also order the constructions of new ships for his fleet to fill the new harbor built last year. The Sultan ask once again the Blekan Empire if Cyprus could hire naval engineers to modernize their fleet and work at the Mujtamae Albahriu (Naval Society).
  • Sicilian diplomacy: Seeing that the Belkan Empire sees itself as above the affairs of the sultanate, Sicily extends a hand and offers to modernize the Cypriot fleet.

  • Belkan Dip: Due to our superior naval technique the Belkan naval wrights offer to build the Cpyriot navy as a contract.
  • Cyprus: We gladly accept the offer. The Sultan also accept the offer of the Sicilian, since he is neutral to the small crisis in Italy, sending a ship to pick up the italian engineers. (MOD ANSWER if the blocus let the ship pass or not)
  • OOC: It's not a mod answer you are trying to bypass a Belkan Blockade, no you cannot pass 300 of some of the most well armed ships in the world. -Feud

  • OOC(Belka): They don't even really have a fleet regardless. none of it are ships of the line, its a dated fleet at best. At least mine is up to par with the great colonizers for redundancy purposes.
  • Sicilian OOC/diplomacy: Don't let tensions flare up again over Cyprus. There's already enough trouble in Italy. ~Orange

• Sicily: While tensions remain high on the peninsula, the Prince-General agrees to a mediation by the Papacy. Troops are withdrawn form the Italian border. Despite the move towards de-escalation, Sicily moves towards France and Savoy for alliances (Oct, Rex RESPONSE), just in case another diplomatic incident breaks out. We also warn the Maghreb against any moves to ally with European powers in the name of detriment towards Sicily and her allies.
  Despite what historians may one day call the "Italian Crisis," construction of the University of Naples moves forward, its architecture drawing inspiration from the great Italian buildings of the Renaissance, while also mixing in some elements of Muslim architecture to reflect Sicily's Islamic history. Great works of Sicilian art from all around the kingdom are bought and moved into the university's completed rooms. Trade with Cyprus continues.
  • Sicily OOC: And just so you know folks, I won't be attempting any more false-flag operations, at least for quite a while.
    Also, I'm skeptical about an Anglo-Belkan alliance; Britain has no business in Mediterranean affairs, and the two countries have nothing in common other than both hating Iberia (come on, this isn't Europa Universalis 4). European alliances are getting pretty World-War-1-esque here. ~Orange
    
    P.S. This may be a bit random, but do you think it would be appropriate to name Italy this timeline's "powderkeg of Europe?" With Bulgarian dominance in the Balkans, this most certainly can't be applied there. However, throughout this game, the various powers have been competing for influence in Italy, sometimes leading to bloody conflicts: the Kingdom of Italy, the Sicilian War of Independence, Papal expansion wars, and now the curent Italian Crisis. I think it would be appropriate for, as an event in 1731, that a European country (preferably a neutral one) publish a newspaper giving Italy that title.
  • Belkan OOC: This isn't the first time the Belkans and British have allied against Iberia or allied in general. there is an in game historical precedent to Britain joining Belka against Iberia also ive helped Britain before this as well against Burgundy during the war of Austrian succession. Anglo-Belkan relations are highly positive of each other since in all cases it led to general gain for both sides. Resuming our previous alliance is not really so out there.
  • Sicily OOC: Even if you have allied before, Britain does not care whatsoever about Italy, the Mediteranean, or your puppet state. Britain is by no means a continental power. They're busy enough fighting wars to subjugate India, and for the past few centuries, what have they done? Colonize the Americas. Britain cannot project power into the Mediterranean; any thoughts otherwise are absurd. ~Orange
• Hawaii: Infrastructure on the island of Hawaii continues to be improved with the additional funds from the king's tax. In particular agricultural land is expanded and ports are constructed. The construction of the war fleet continues. Settlement in the southern islands continues, especially in Pukapuka and the surrounding islands, where traders stop en route to the Tu'i Tonga Empire. Settlers and traders continue to head west, following the route taken by Véron and other foreigners, leading to Majuro being more heavily visited, as well as other islands in the OTL Marshall Islands. Contact is established with Pohnpei, leading to increased trade further west of Hema Pae 'Aina. Hawaii's riflemen continue to be drilled and trained, primarily by René de Froulay and other advisers. Gaspard Ribault's tutoring of the king and a few other nobles in writing continues, as does the training of scribes to record Hawaiian history and legends. The king also continues receiving tutoring in European/world history and geopolitics. Expansion in the southern islands and the rest of Polynesia continues, with the Hawaiians using the technology they recently acquired to further their influence in the south. The king formally claims the northwestern Hawaiian islands, which had been loosely under his influence already, or under Kauai's, and he encourages settlement of Nihoa and a few other islands. A French trader stops in Hawaii and hires a few native Hawaiians as laborers. The king orders a few trusted individuals to accompany the traders, potentially learning more about the rest of the world. One of Kamanawa's sons, Naukane, who had been in the islands as an envoy between the two distant parts of the kingdom, agrees to go on the voyage. He is joined by one of the king's sons, Kamāʻuleʻule, known by his nickname Boki, and Kamanawa ʻŌpio, son of Kepoʻokalani, the Chief of Puna.
• Guuti Empire: One shaman has finished his study of the stars and claims that the stars are a message about white men to the east. Some Caribou riders begin feeding Guuti's blood to their Caribou. A witchdoctor brews a potion which she calls "Guuti's Tears" and causes extreme pain. It can be made in a gas or liquid form. A scholar studying a bunch of strange symbols written by a now dead shaman high on Guuti's blood(this will be later named the Dead Man's Codex) determines that each of the symbols actually correlates with a sound in the Chipewyan dialect. Another shaman claims the symbols are actually a map of the world, while yet another claims that they are a map of the stars.
• Poland: King Wladyslaw is 19, the Polish Sejm continues to be controlled by the noblemen. They have ordered a great Cathedral to be built one the likes of which have never been seen before one larger than St Peter's and with the greatest depictions of christ in the known world. The funds for such a massive undertaking have been diverted from the Military, Jan Pawlak has been commissioned as the architect with a relatively unknown painter in Francis Bouchard along with Santiago Cid. A composer named Albert Mulak is gaining fame for his piece Krakow Concertos considered a fine piece of music He has been given funding from the King to promote arts through the Kingdom. The 60,000 men of the Polish peacetime army have marched towards the Hungarian border beginning to set up border posts and fortifications. This is a purely peaceful operation keen on the training of Polish forces for possible military action against an enemy that would not damage our relationship with a close friend in Hungary. Another large construction project is being started an Opera House dedicated to the advancement of Polish culture through music. A symphony is also planned, but will not begin construction until the next year due to time.
• Kingdom of Mzerka and Wiyot:We Keep exploring lands and we find the Comanche but we do greaten our relations with them yet. We also Build our fleet to have a total of ten boats. We Ask the Papal States and Iberia if we can buy guns from them(player response).We put more money in our mines to get more gold. We also make more roads and we connect Mzer and Diltwa Wituye to the bay area to get a route to begin building a new city there.
  • Iberian Diplomacy: Iberia agrees to open the arms trade to Mzerka now that they are a protectorate.
• Persia: The land of Persia is worked on as the Sha Al Faris works on expanding trade into India and the Jaffarid state. The city of Tehran is picked the capital as most trade hubs are sit up around it. The military is re organized as generals are picked for loyalty and and effectiveness. With the new military gear from the mid east we begin to work on copying them into a Persian form. Horse men from mostly the North East of the nation are picked to join special assault units " Al Farsi", they are sent to the Sha to give Ba'yah to him in Theran and are given high stature in the army after completing harsh military training. A religious foundation is found by an ayatollah named Masud in the city of Theran, this group finds a large support in the city of Theran,North East and South West of the nation, This foundation begins to gain more support as youth from mostly middle class families begin to follow the new organisation. The ships from the maghreb are improve and study to be copied, the navy is worked on to have 50 warships in peace time and up to 300 ships ready for war. Traders are sent to India and S.E. Asia as they begin to work as trying to have Iran be seen as the gate to the East and West (in trade). The government begins to work on creating waterways, creating man made rivers and organizing ways of farming to help improve the population.

• Swahili: We continue our agriculture policies and adapt more plants to the Swahili climate. The army continues convincing contracted servants. We continue colonial expansion in Northern Somalia, in the South and in the Malindi and Mombassa area. . Colonisation steadily increase as medicine and weaponry becomes more widespread. Several libraries are built in Swahili.  Technological advances speed up as a result of the cultural and technological exchanges in the embassies. The army at Sofala continues training. Modern battle tactics are adopted. The Royal Society of Learning posits the question of finding the Longitude at sea and offers a large reward.

  • Lakshadweep: The island of Lakshadweep is further developed.
  • Olungu: Olungu expands and is further developed.

• Iberia: Iberia closely monitors the situation in Sicily, and keeps their fleet on standby and army stationed in Sicily in case the conflict escalates. Half of the troops sent to Sicily are diverted to Malta instead; the other half return to Iberia. Training of the grenadiers continues. After years of gathering support for his colonial ambitions in Iberia and Nova Lusitânia, Alfonso de Pinedo embarks on another voyage to the Solomon Islands, this time with the intention to establish a colony. His fleet of five ships and ~450 colonists first lands at the Marquesas Islands in June to resupply, but poor relations with the natives forces the expedition to leave early, resulting in the deaths of several dozen islanders. Pinedo is successful in more thoroughly charting the southern islands, however, before setting off again for the Solomon Islands. After briefly sighting one of the Cook Islands, the expedition finally lands on the island of Nendo in late August, which they name Santa Cruz. Their settlement by the bay is built quickly with assistance from the natives, but things take a turn for the worse when the settlement suffers an outbreak of malaria and begins to run low on food and necessities. The islanders, who rely on subsistence farming, are unable to provide for the colonists, and some are robbed or killed by members of Pinedo's party against his orders, leading to general hostility with the natives. Pinedo has the leader of these mutineers executed, further dividing the colonists. Pinedo himself dies soon afterwards, and one of his captains takes charge. With casualties mounting, he decides to abandon the colony and return to Nova Lusitânia. Overall, the expedition is a disaster, with only about 120 survivors. Meanwhile, having signed a treaty with Comancheria, the Iberian colonies in Arcadia now extend beyond the Rio Grande to the new frontier. The provinces of Nova Saragoça (OTL Coahuila) and Texas are split off from Nova Leão as a result of this expansion, and everything east of Galveston Bay is given to Mêcicipi. Texas' first proper settlement is founded at Santa Isabel (OTL San Antonio) around a Franciscan mission of the same name, while the rest of the colony remains sparsely populated by scattered missions that have yet to grow into civilian settlements. Maranhão expands into the OTL states of Maranhão and Piauí. Fur traders build trading posts up the Mississippi, expanding the colony. Mêcicipi signs a treaty with the Natchez and Chickasaw, keeping Iberian settlers unmolested from raids in exchange for regular gifts. Iberian merchants gain increasing influence in Goa, Makassar, and East Timor. Makassar grows dependent on Iberian trade.
  • Iberia to Belka: The naval blockade is a direct attack on Sicily by Belka, and an act of war. If Belka does not stand down its fleet, then Iberia will protect its ally. We do not wish for war, but Belka is intentionally provoking war by taking military action, not in the context of the Italian League, but separately and without lawful cause.

• Ququququ: The Tribal Union's raiders are, as previously stated, known in the wider area. After contacting the Kaluli, the Ququququ begin expanding their Unions riches by copying the Kaluli agricultural knowledge throughout their lands. The Ququququ begin implementing the Kaluli creation myth into their traditional stories. As the beliefs and practices of the Ququququ and their allies become more and more similar, the Ququququ officially introduce the Sambia, Fore and Kaluli as members of the Ququququ union. Namton A'fao Koito, along with the Council, announces that they have analysed the beliefs of all tribes and have come to the conclusion that all members of the Ququququ, and possibly even other tribes on this land, are quite possibly related to each other, and therefore should unite for the common good.
  • Bilibil: With the help of numerous Ququququ workers the Bilibil rebuild their trade canoes and restore some homes, while new ones are built on the coast of the Ququququ union.
• United Kingdom of Great Britain: There is the obvious spread of all those ideas from Europe which are taken in by the nobility and clergy. The soldiers in Malwa continue patrolling the interior of the country and the borders to stop infiltration. These two states ruled by the Thugee where ever they may be are respected in their decision to be ruled the Thugee but we came in at the acceptance of Malwa to help maintain law and order which is what the Army of Islamic India will do. Contuined mining of coal at seams starting at the sea. As less people are employed in agriculture due to advances some have to move to towns and cities to find work. Agricultural revolution continues to work with the country continuing use of land reclamation, four field crop rotation and enclosures. England has 6.5 million people and inside of that London has a population of 0.8 million, Wales has 0.6 million Ireland has 1.6 million people and Scotland 0.9 million people. The army undergoes a shifting of forces to the south of England with 35,000 in England, 3000 in Ireland and Scotland each and 2000 in Wales while an additional 9000 troops are overseas with 5000 in Arcadia, 2000 in English Maiam, 1000 in Haiti as well as 500 in St George, St Helena, New Canterbury and Bay of Kost. The fleet is divided with 150 ships stationed in Portsmouth and 150 ships stationed in Bristol. Trade with colonies in a triangular trade going through Africa, America and Europe is profitable. Robert Walpole continues to hold power over Parliament while King William is now of age. The travelling teachers continues to be implemented as they move to more villages to teach more children. The Brown Bess musket continues to be put into service and starts introducing in the Army of Islamic India and trained with while Colonel Boris Johnson finishes introducing Grenadiers to the army and is given command of a regiment in England. The roads and the canals are given maintenance to ensure the transport network of Britain is in good shape.
  • British Arcadia: The 5000 British troops in Arcadia are spread out with 1000 in New York, 2000 in Henry's land, 1000 in New Gwynedd and the remaining 1000 are divided between the remaining areas. In addition local militia forces do exist but they aren't standing and are spread out although they are armed. In New Essex there is a push 50 px to the west crossing into OTL Alabama as settlements develop on both sides of the river Stout. The sale of furs, sugar, tobacco, coffee, bananas and other cash crops continue to bring in good money. There is a militia of 21,000 citizens who are while unprofessional do have weapons and supplies. The colonies are at 2.1 million people.
• Belkan Empire: Tsar Peter in good faith of the Rome accords stands down roughly half the fleet and resumes them to further patrols around the Eastern Med while keeping 150 in and around Sicily officially lifting the general blockade except for preventing very clearly Troop ships in accordance with the pope wishing to de-escalate the conflict. While the accords are taking place much of the Belkan armies and its allies are put on standby and in good faith the Belkan armies fall back from the Sicilian border and establish a camp just south of Abruzzo far enough back from the border to not be provoking. This also leads to the quick building and establishment of a Fort as well as the redirection of resources to fortifying Abruzzo from the quiet city into an absolute fortress expected to be fully fortified by the beginning of the next year. The Response to Iberia is a quiet Brush off as with the accords in place the potential for war is low and violating the traditional truce terms of a diplomatic mission would turn most of Europe against the Iberians. The tsar in his old age and failing health is forced to abdicate in favor of his son Vladimir, however the opulent and financially destructive attitude for the time being has been replaced with a shrewd man with clear diplomatic leanings but also the will to carry out a war to its bitter end. He sees the interference in italy as an absolute affront to his nations political sphere and allies and backs up the Italian league doubly influecing their politics and population with italian printed propaganda aimed at establshing pride in the Leagues short but proud history highlighting the absolutely near perfection that the Leagues army was able to perform in the last war. While all this is going on the home front remains on alert but tired as many of the people accustomed to Belkas inactive political role and generally hands off policies with its allies and other foreign engagements. However many remain ready regardless of their personal ideas seeing the clear aggressiveness of the Sicilians against the league. With war so close the Field Marshalls, commanders, and generals of Belkas army oust the nobility from their military positions asserting "the military is for the defense of our empire, our people, and our way of life, not for you to pad your prestige" The Nobles attempt to respond by pulling loyal units with them only for most of the units save 10,000 personally paid professional troops to split. The Nobility seeing their position untenable release these troops from their service and turn to their new tsar for assistance. However, Tsar Vladimir denies them agreeing with the military. The Nobility involved in the appointment scandals are sent home in shame. The Ecumenical Patriarch returns home celebrating the success of the council of alexandria and officially reinstates proper relations with the Papacy.
• Russia: Tuvov is expanded 5 px. Tsar Pyotr commissions five new frigates to the Black Sea fleet. The army continues modernization. The Tsar tastes tea as it moves tis way westward. Russian traders continue traveling across the far east bringing back exotic products. The only true fur sales in East Asia are in Manchuria, Korea, and northern Japan.

• Kingdoms of Burgundy and Prussia: Maryland expands 50 px north into OTL Florida. New Germany expands 50 px up the Knights River (otl Alabama river). Saxony is warned about going to war further with its neighbors, and is told to cease military action against Anhalt (since there's no algo, I assume the war technically isn't over). This is their final warning. Westphalian and Franconian HRE states are asked for assistance in defending their neighbors if Saxony continues to be aggressive (mod response pls). Meanwhile, Dutch shipyards quietly lay down the first ships of the 120-gun Triomfant class, the first ships-of-the-line to be sheathed in copper.

• Italian League: The military is placed on high alert and mobilized to the borders, where they form defensive positions, in the case of a war breaking out against the league. The League's Consul officially states that he wishes to avoid war at all costs, and also work with their Italian neighbors to the south. Some of the more jingoistic and liberal elements of the governing assembly are particularly angered by Belka's sudden movement of troops into the country. The more radical elements of the government, and some of the populace of the north, condemn the move as a blatant occupation, enforcing Belkan influence over an independent nation unwilling to be subjugated by Slavic foreigners. While pleased that the Belkan military has backed down somewhat, the Prince-General is still angered by the fact that the blockade remains in place. Seeing as the Belkans have circulated laughable Italian propaganda and not starting a war, Sicily does the same. The usual Sicilian pride propaganda is circulated. Among the ethnic Greeks in the kingdom, the Prince-General prints propaganda promoting Greece's long history of independence, their roots to the Byzantine Empire, and encouraging to rise up against their Slavic oppressors. This propaganda is printed in hopes of stirring anti-Belkan, Greek separatism among the populace, which the government hopes will eventually spread to Belka. The Prince-General reiterates the alliance offers to France and Savoy, telling France that in order to secure their interests in Italy, they must defend against the Belkan-backed Italian League. Meanwhile it's military takes up defensive positions all around Saxon borders and riders are sent in the night to all their allies within the HRE. • Italian League: We continue to train our military forces and construct defenses in the north and south of the city, in the event of war. Growing pressure from the more liberal in the government and the city representatives from the north lead to the government officially demanding that Belka withdraw from the capital city, seeing as there is no reason in particular to garrison our capital now that our own military is mobilized. Belka still has military access within the country, however, the logistics of housing such a large force concentrated within the city is deemed unneccessary. We ask that the Belkans not garrison forces at all, feeling that there isn't particularly a need for it (Remember: We don't know that Austria is in a secret alliance with Sicily. The fact that Belka is fortifying their northern border and also occupying Northern Italy is toeing the line of metagaming), however the government doesn't particularly press the matter yet at this time. Giovanni Facta, and other liberals, begin quoting Niccolò Machiavelli (or whatever the ATL equivalent is) in their speeches, who appealed to Italian patriotism by urging Italians "to seize Italy and free her from the Barbarians", back in 1532. This proto-nationalism, inadvertedly and somewhat ironically created by Belka's own issued propaganda in the north, is created directly by the strain, or at least perceived strain, of foreign influence in the peninsula, slowly begins to grow amongst the country's more liberal circles, sparked by enlightenment thinking. Some of the more radical even go as far as to say that the Italian League would be better served aligned with their Italian brethren to the south, however, this statement alienates many, who are reluctant to turn their back against their loose ally in favor of a nation threatening the League's own independence and security. Unknownst to the government, Bonaparte sympathesizes with the Liberal agitation striking in parts of the nation, at least as far as it advances his own agenda, and secretly allies with Facta and another extremely wealthy individual, Vincenzo Mazzini, essentially forming a triumvirate alliance with two of the government's more radical but influential statesmen. Meanwhile the reigning consul, Matteo Forlani, a staunch conservative and Belkan supporter, attempts to crack down on the spread of the englightement and the growing liberalism in the nation, inadvertedly spreading its popularity. Arrests and executions increase dramatically in the north of the country, leading to the consulship being nicknamed the "Reign of Terror" in parts of the country.

In Fez, a branch of enlightenment thinking imported from europe grows with Islam and berber culture incorporated into it. Various members of the royal family and viziers begin toying with the idea of replacing arabic with berber as the official language. The sultan establishes a Grand Kazir, or commisioner for the berber muslim establishment. The Grand Kazir begins modified islam to fit with Berber culture. The berber language becomes adopted by more of the country. Maghreb pirates raid various cities in Mali based off of the incentives given by the Sultan. The philosopher in Tunis formulates a new government model for the Sultanate that mimicks the Rashidun Caliphate and has viziers, sultans, and kazirs elected by the populace or congresses of people elected by the populace. A popular artist in Tunis begins working on minimalist geometric art based off of the Tamazight alphabet. His style, known as Tamazightism, grows and spreads across various mediums. The Sultan also offers incentives to older pirates thinking of retiring to settle along the coast of OTL Western Sahara to help colonize it. The Sultan also offers Belka the ports of Algiers and Kenitra to rent for 50 years in exchange for a steady supply of guns and for Belka to help in modernizing the Maghrebi military (Belka Response).

• Sultanate of Cyprus: The Mujtamae Reforms end up being badly implemented by the bureaucrats and officials of the Court. With the exception of the Mujtamae Altijara (Trade), which the Sultan supervised personally due to its importance, and the Mujtamae Albahriu, which was organized with the help of the Belkian engineers, the Mujtamae are currently an inefficient and dysfunctional system of bureaucracy. Unwilling to abandon those reforms however, Sultan Jalil name a Grand Vizir to help him organize and enforce the Mujtamae so they can make the society more efficient, not less efficient. This new Grand Vizir, the first since the independence and the second in the history of the Sultanate, is Mu'Tamid al-Satter, one of the main administrators of the palace and a sitting members of the Mujtamae Altijara's council. Mu'Tamid has been one of the reasons that the Mujtamae Altijara succeeded where the other failed, and by putting him in charge of implementing the reforms, the Sultan hope that his miracle man will fix everything. A good part of the treasury is sent to the Belkan Empire so they can modernize the fleet. To finance the contracts, the Sultan raise a new tax on the population (trade, religion and nobility are exempted, of course).
• Guuti Empire: A shaman begins writing another cave painting using the symbols that represents sounds found in the Dead Man's Codex. Another shaman begins building a pyramid using the labor of his devotees so that he can better look at the sky. Nunas falls ill and selects Guuti III as her heir. Guuti III also orders his devotees to build a pyramid in his honor. He hires the several shamans to paint things on it. Guuti III also orders all shamans to incorporate him into their cave paintings.
• Belkan Empire: The mostly slavic elements of the former greek homeland now called Guritsya the slavonic name for the greek provinces see some of the propaganda somewhat spread into the region and largely ignore it. With Sicily seemingly calming down the Belkan forces all more or less stand down and begin to trickle home. Ionian forces also begin their long trek home back to their homeland in anatolia having learned valuable lessons about deployment, logistics and discipline. While no conflict had some it has become extremely clear of the military readiness of Belka in regards to its sphere of influence. The new Tsar Vladimir heavily supports and reiterates the Guarentee to the Italian league. The Economy begins to return to normal however the loans previous used on building project were used in the mass mobilization of Belkas professional and garrison regiments causing a very large drain on what used to be a sizeable fund meant to develop parts of the country. This somewhat causes some economic problems which drives up unemployment as well as some food scarcity. However most of the country remains rather prosperous as the food limitations remain to Belkas rural regions rather than its urban ones. More Militaristic and radical elements of the enlightenment begin to spread into the general populace via its Croatian base with small movments having cropped up in Tarnovo, Vasiligrad, Sofiya, Belgrad, Oured, and Iasi, as well as larger movements in Athens as well as Visegrad (otl city of Cluj). The Sultan order the newly promoted Admiral Mufeed el-Galla to lead a small fleet in the Venetian Golf to blockade access to Venice. He plan on redrawing the regions into urban and rural sections to clearly define the parts of the island supervised by the Mujtamae Alhadariu (Urban) and the Mujtamae Alriyfiu (Rural), which has been a problem since the beginning of the Mujtamae Reforms. Finally, Sultan Jalil and his family go visit the Caliph in person, many members of the Court following him in Cairo. Since thefivesurviving sons of Jalil are between 19 and 26, the Sultan believe it is too late to leave them in Cairo at the care of the Caliph. Instead, he leave Saif, his two year old grandson from his third son and heir Farid. The Sultan simply tell the Caliph “Send him back as a man of Islam.”
• Ethiopian Empire: With the rise of monastacism and platonic philosophy in Ethiopia, the Emperor begins replacing each public institution with these ideals. School systems are based on First Principles, building on older ideas. EDIT: Per agreement of three mods (Sky, Nate, Scraw), the Maghrebi leasing of its cities and all agreements related to it have been retconned.

EDIT2: The Königsberg occupation has been retconned, however Prussia is still in civil war and it will require an algo from anyone (including Burgundy) to (re)gain control of it.

• Maghreb: Enlightenment philosophy grows in Fez as the Sultan continues to slowly reform his ways. The tax on infidels is formally abolished, although businesses still charge infidels more and pay them less. The appointed governor of Chandahar begins the building of boats and the allocation of some of the Maghrebi navy there. Maghrebi pirates also initiate an informal blockade of Mali and sieze all ships leaving her harbors. Maghrebi soldiers also start up a small fort on the border of Mali to do their operations from. The Sahrawi Qarsonate project is cancelled and the pirates instead move to the fort to begin attacks on Mali. The Sultan sends an envoy to the Songhai saying that if the Songhai ally with Maghreb, they can split Mali and perhaps later benin with them (Mod Response). The Sultan also sends an envoy to the Mapuche, asking if they would become a protectorate of the Maghreb for protection against colonial forces and if they would allow muslim missionaries into their empire (Mod Response). The sultan also begins training several pirates in a European naval fashion and begins creating a special program to train pirates to be better naval officers.
  •  Laurentid Vizierate: The elected grand vizier instates the first kazir of the vizierate. Radical thinking and ideals grow there as many radicals from the mainland immigrate to the democratic experiment.
  • Tajammanid Emirate: The Emir sends colonists to many areas of OTL Argentina and Chile to start coastal colonies.
  • Emirate of Al MaqadasP The emir dies and his son takes his place. His son is very conservative and wants to follow the Quran. Muslim anti-enlightenment and anti-secular thinkers migrate there and begin forming their own philosophy against growing liberalism.
  • Mapuche: The Maghrebi envoy is murdered and the guards are forcefully brought into the Empire for the Mapuche to learn from.
    • The Maghrebi guards use the gunpowder in their guns to light an explosion which causes a scene in the empire and kills them. The Grand Kazir writes a fatwa on how it is ok to kill yourself if you are helping in a Jihad. The Sultan makes Mapuche the target of Maghrebi pirating and announces that the infidels are now enemies of the empire and of the muslim world.
• Saxony: Realizing the Prussian counter stroke. They only take the region of Bohemia that borders them and peace out before Prussia counter attacks. They also pay Burgundy lot of money (which they have to spare) in war reparations. However, on the off chance that Burgundy doesn't accept Saxony spreads its 60,000 men from Saxony and Bohemia between Dresden and Leipzig boostifn the garrisons to 30,000. Also the walls are greatly reinforced and the civilian populations are quickly set to build canals around the city walls. Also, the cities of Dresden and Leipzig are full stocked up on food which is heavily guarded and any civilians which aren't important are sent to other cities to make food supplies last longer in the event of a siege.

• Poland Dip: Poland offers a peace treaty to Prussia . Asking for a peace treaty, all they ask is for the ceding of Konigsberg and the surrounding enclave to the Polish Kingdom and hoping to end the war without any serious Bloodshed, they offer to pay 10,000 Zlotys to the Prussian Kingdom in exchange for any grievances caused by the Aggression of Poland.

  • Belkan Dip: hoping to see the Leagues politics calm down the Belkan envoy is authorized to offer whoever controls the capital and hence central control of the government military, food, and supply support.
  • Italian League Diplomacy: The Triumvirate formally accepts the support of Belka, and also asks for help in defense against Cyprus, should it be necessary. We also formally ask for an alliance with Belka.
• Sultanate of Cyprus: The Grand Vizier al-Satter order the construction of monuments in the cities of Cyprus in order to give a purpose to the Mujtamae Albina (Construction). The biggest of those constructions will be the Abbasid Crypt, a massive underground tomb in Nicosia for the death Sultans of Cyprus. When news of the arrest and then execution of Consul Mazzini come to Admiral Mufeed el-Galla begin bombarding Venice with his ships. Following repeated bombardments, el-Galla send a couple of hundred troops to take over the city, hoping that the bombardments did the job of demoralizing the populace and the rebels.   • Maghrebi Dip: The Sultan offers Cyprus to become part of the greater military alliance between Persia and Maghreb as well as the sultan asking to rent the port of Kyrenia from Cyprus in exchange for Cyprus getting ten percent of the profits and being part of the alliance.
  • Cyprus Dip: Sultan Jalil accept at the condition that the port rent is in Limassol (which is south of the island) instead of the big one in Kyrenia (in the north), which host the main fleet of Cyprus.

  • Italian League Diplomacy: The League soldiers who had already been actively training and garrisoning in the north (as per my earlier posts) immediately launch a counterattack to repulse the relatively small Cypriot attack from the city (see algorithm on talk page). The Italian League then formally declares war and mobilizes for a full invasion of Cyprus (also on talk page).
• Ethiopian Empire: With the Order of Saint Constance based in their own monestary in the Red Lands, the basic Principles of philosophy and theology are safely locked away with them. In the rest of the Empire, a grand council of abbots are gathered in Alexandria under the Pope, all dedicated to the purpose of maintaining and exemplifying those principles for theological and philosophical purposes. A second council of scholars from the Library of Alexandria utilize the findings of that council to create a system of mathematics and science from those basic fields. The economy and law code are carefully copied from Judeo-Christianity. Relations are greatly improved with the Caliphate, as the Pope Mark VI hopes to grow more understanding between Coptic Christianity and Islam. Some reforms of the Council of Alexandria are also implemented. The Emperor Theodore himself retires back to Medinah Jamil. 
• Guuti Empire: The seven high shamans begin ritualizing themselves as well as Guuti III. • Russia: (Since apparently Lithuania is too valuable) We declare war on Poland, Marching 80,000 Professional troops to attack Polish defenses outside Vilnius. 100,000 unprofessional soldiers are lined at the border to make sure a polish counter attack fails. The Baltic Sea Fleet sails to Danzig and sets up a naval Blockade. Tuvov is expanded 10px, Kodiak is expanded 5px. The Tsar and his wife has a son named Konstantin, after Constantine of the Byzantine Empire, master of Orthodoxy. five frigates and five galleons are added to the black sea fleet. One galleon and three frigates are constructed in Okhotsk. Russian trade ships start making their way south to Formosa and Saigon. More missions to the New World leave Russia to claim the entire Northwestern Part of the continent.
• Kingdoms of Burgundy and Prussia: after a bloody campaign, the rebel nobles and their forces are defeated near Lübeck. With that distraction taken care of, both Saxony and Polands "peace offers" are rejected, with the demand that they withdraw to their pre-war borders. In preparation, 230,000 troops are raised, including 150,000 non-professional troops, and the Burgundian Royal Army begins preparing to move to reinforce should they be needed. Some 60,000 troops march south, encamping around Prague for the time being, while detachments are sent out to secure the regions Saxony claimed since their troops evacuated the area. Traitorous nobles who sided with saxony are arrested for trial. The rest of the Prussian Royal Army is diverted east, towards Poland.
  • Saxony Dip: Saxony agrees on the condition that Burgundy no longer interferes with Saxon affairs including Bamburg as they did plan to attack and thus the move against them was an preemptive strike.
• South India: After much rebuilding and revamp of the army the country is now stable. The police system is revamped and the police now has a greater control over the matters inside the country. The roles of the Police and the Army now have a clear demarcation laid down in a document formulated by the King and his Council of Ministers. The Provincial Police Chiefs are independent of the Army officers and report to the Chief of Police who is a part of the King's Council. To control the internal affairs of the state, the King creates the Ministry of Internal Affairs which works under the King and the Chief of Police. The extensive spy system of the state is reorganized and now works under the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The spread of commercial farming and the use of the Malindi plough has led to the erosion of the feudal system in the southern parts of Kerala around Kollam. The feudal houses have become direct cultivators due to the establishment of plantations. Many tenants have been evicted and the rest now act as laborers in the big farms of Southern Kerala. This has led to the emigration of skilled tenants to neighboring Tamil areas and has led to the establishment of coffee, tea and tobacco cultivation in the Tamil areas. The establishment of big farms and plantations has brought prosperity to Southern Kerala and the farmers there. The State declares war on Telangana. In other news, with the Southern Africa Mission coming along well, an exedition, led by one of the new generaion of native African Immaculata priests, visits the Zulu and asks for permission to build a church in the great kingdom [Mod response please]. Contact is established with Pohnpei, leading to increased trade further west of Hema Pae 'Aina. Hawaii's riflemen continue to be drilled and trained, primarily by René de Froulay and other advisers. Gaspard Ribault's tutoring of the king and a few other nobles in writing continues, as does the training of scribes to record Hawaiian history and legends. • Italian League: Following the unprovoked attack by the Sultanate of Cyprus against us, our nation's attention is turned towards development of the navy and army, and focusing on the war effort. Although there is some discontent from various factions within the government, the populace is almost unanimously in support of the new government, especially in the north where people were most affected by both Mazzini and the Cypriots. Mali's forces are routed and retreat to the cities. Maghrebi forces raid and pillage the rural and coastal areas as reinforcements are called in from the tip of the mainland. Later that year, the Maghrebi forces would launch another siege with their renewed and larger force of 100,000 fought Malian forces again at the Niger River during the battle of Tondibi. Then, finally, the Maghrebi forces sieged the capital of Niani and brought it down, raising the Maghrebi flag above it. The Sultan of Mali was taken prisoner and was offered his life in exchange for telling the remainder of the sultanate(isolated to the city of Timbuktu) to become a vassal of Maghreb. The sultan agrees and becomes a signatory on the treaty that ends the war. Enlightenment philosophy and a sense of Berber national identity continues to grow in association with the art of cubism. A popular Kazir begins straying from the ways of islam and grows a following. He teaches acceptance and syncretism with all other religions. The popular Kazir also writes the popes of Alexandria and Rome about how christians and muslims should get along better (Ethiopia and Papal States Response). His followers become known as Babists. The way of thinking and religion takes from Kuzirism, Christianity, Buddhism, and Islam. Engineers and scientists from Mali begin immigrating to Maghreb and help modernize its military.
  • Emirate of Mali: The newly established colony by the treaty of Timbuktu begins phasing out the Songhay language. The soldiers continue raiding various cities to destroy any remaining resistance.
  • Seluja, Bamako, and Timbuktu: The Sultans of Seluja and Bamako send envoys to Songhai to get an alliance against the the infidels in Benin (MOD RESPONSE). Timbuktu announces an official policy of neutrality and remains a hub of Malian culture as it is slowly eradicated in other parts of the former sultanate.

  • Laurentid Vizierate: The Elected Vizier continues to set forth even more radical policies and the vizierate becomes a hub of enlightenment thought in the Maghreb. Various sub vizierates are established beyond its borders as they peacefully annex/swindle native tribes around them into joing the empire.

When I joined as Cyprus, Nathan told me between one and two millions, while the Italian League algo indicate 150,000. From what I understood, Cyprus was more colonized than in real life, so I assume it's somewhere in the middle. If some MOD could give me a number, it would be appreciated.

• Persia: The land of Persia is worked on as the Sha Al Faris works on expanding trade into India and the Jaffarid state. The city of Tehran is picked the capital as most trade hubs are sit up around it. The military is re organized as generals are picked for loyalty and and effectiveness. With the new military gear from the mid east we begin to work on copying them into a Persian form. Horse men from mostly the North East of the nation are picked to join special assault units " Al Farsi", they are sent to the Sha to give Ba'yah to him in Theran and are given high stature in the army after completing harsh military training. • Guuti Empire: The Guuti raid the most western areas of Prince Eric's Land and stop Scandinavian expansion. A passage is discovered in the Dead Man's Codex that talks of white men and how they are very competitive amongst each other. Some warriors, as opposed to killing the Scandinavians, offer them high positions in the Guuti Military in exchange for riches and the various powerful drugs the Guuti Shamans were famous for (MOD Response). A few guns are requisitioned from Scandinavian frontier posts but the main colonies and king are largely unaware. Guuti shamans and craftsmen begin studying the guns and gunpowder, trying to figure out how to manufacture more of them. When building, a small deposit of diamonds is discovered. Craftsmen begin using slave labor to build a large hole to get more of them.
• Russia: The Tsar places a Lithuanian noble as the head of the now integrated Province of Lithuania. Tuvov is expanded 20px into the Tuvov peninsula. Kodiak is expanded 10px inland. Novoarchangelsk is expanded 10px initially. The Island of St. Paul is colonized by Fur Trappers and integrated into the Aleutia Colony. The population continues to grow. A popular philosopher and Patriot, Muhammed Bin Farajin Al Fez, writes a book on the politics of the Patriot Movement, which seems to be the most popular of the groups.

• Belkan Empire:The Empire continues to see corruption increase from various imperial beraucracies. While this has been someone endemic to the system, the Belkan bereaucracy has generally been a good measure less corrupt than most other national beraucracies. However with the mismanaged money of the Czar being discovered by Bereaucrats, instead of fixing the issue, they also do much of the same thing, using money from the national treasury to line their pockets and host lavish feasts and events in excess. This has not become noticeable to the general public yet however, the representative of Belkas military in charge of the funding of the military has begun to notice something wrong. Field Marshall Ivan Vasilev specifically begins looking through Belkas financial transactions utilizing his own personal guard to get the information he cant access per usual. In most cases he doesnt even have to use them but when accessing the financial records of the Bereaucrats he seems some stiffened resistance. The Belkan economy in general remains strong but some slight lacking in usual government services begins to become noticeable as some jobs are lost, and the cities and infrastructure systems begin to become a bit more mismanaged. The Belkan fleet and army remain extremely potent and effectice entities with the Belkan army in particular coming back into prominence as the purge of the ineffective leadership ends now leaving the Army back to its pre corruption levels of effectiveness. The research into the uses of Hussars and Curiassiers continues however the perfect balance and tactics to be used remain rudimentary. The Belkan army also effectively brings grapeshot into the army in full capacity now making it a mandatory munition for cannons. The Belkan army also begins effective drilling in fire by platoon increasing rate of fire for the line infantry. This however is restricted to the Black Guards Regiments stationed in Belgrad, Vasiligrad, Sibenik, Visegrad. Oured, and Sofiya. • Iberia: Relations with Goa deteriorate after a chapel is constructed in the Iberian quarter. The Muslim rulers feel their power is being usurped and conspire to expel the Iberians from Goa. They make a serious error, however, by waiting months to gather enough forces to strike instead of relying on the element of surprise. This gives Iberia enough time to learn of the plot and muster their own forces on the outskirts of the city. By September, tensions have reached boiling point. With the city in Iberian hands, Jacó do Sequeira orders the defenses be rebuilt and garrisoned by 500 troops. Pangim is garrisoned by 400 troops. The conquest of Goa marks the collapse of the Goa Sultanate's authority, as the seat of power moves north and further inland. Meanwhile, several trade agreements are signed with the Mota Ain kingdom, allowing for greater Iberian influence on the coast for the economic benefit of Mota Ain. Mota Ain prospers due to Iberian trade. Fur traders build trading posts up the Mississippi and Missouri, expanding the Mêcicipi colony upriver. Maranhão expands into the OTL states of Maranhão and Piauí as more of the interior is colonized. Settlers continue arriving in Santa Apolónia (OTL Réunion).

The nation also immediately mobilizes for war against the Italian League, believing that they have alienated themselves from their allies and have been weakened by recent wars. The Arbitration of Rome is viewed by the king as humiliating, and he is prepared to reject it outright and go to war himself to prove his nation successful. The king does however try to initiate good relations with France and Savoy, believing that they would be a good ally against the Papal States. Enlightenment thinkers are recruited and encouraged to emmigrate to Sicily.
  • Italian League Diplomacy: Although the previous regime of Sicily had been against the Italian League, we hope to be on more cordial terms with the new government, and propose that we open trade between our two nations and begin mending the poor relations we have for each other.

The 30,000 soldiers in Malwa continue patrolling the interior of the country and the borders to stop infiltration. The school system is maintained with establishment of publicly funded grammar boarding schools which teach the basics of reading, writing and arithmetic in a two-year course using a system of older boys assisting in the education of younger boys. This new college is based in Oxford near the library while there is expanded printing facilities to give more reading material. Continued mining of coal at seams starting at the sea. As less people are employed in agriculture due to advances some have to move to towns and cities to find work. Agricultural revolution continues to work with the country continuing use of land reclamation, four field crop rotation and enclosures. England has 6.6 million people and inside of that London has a population of 0.8 million, Wales has 0.6 million, Ireland has 2.1 million people and Scotland 1.0 million people. The army undergoes a shifting of forces to the south of England with 10,000 in London, 5000 in Portsmouth, 2000 in Dublin and 1000 in Cork, 1000 in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen each and 2000 in Cardiff while an additional 9000 troops are overseas with 5000 in Arcadia, 2000 in English Maiam, 1000 in Haiti as well as 500 in St George, St Helena, New Canterbury and Bay of Kost. In New Essex there is a push 50 px to the west into Alabama as waves of farmer frontiersmen push in coming from Britain encouraged by offer of free land and vote in the colonial assemblies. • Guuti Empire: Guuti III uses the Scandinavian's fear of him to his advantage and begins committing several ritualistic assassinations of generals and explorers. On one fort, the entirety of the Dead Man's Codex is inscribed, and the fort is painted with Guuti's Tears for Scandinavians to find. The local feudal lords begin training their warriors in covert assassinations and operations as opposed to open warfare. One of the seven shamans finishes a scroll about Guutism and the evil of whites. A Craftsman begins studying the ways of the earth and develops a simple form of science and mathematics. The expontentially rising population of the empire begins being put to use in growing diamond mines. The Diamonds are linked with Guutism by being Guuti's sperm(yes you heard me right) that never turned into humans. The Diamonds are said to have souls and this makes them powerful objects in magic and in combat. Not only are they used in currency, but they are used as spear heads due to them being extremely sharp. The Devotees capture a Scandinavian frontiersman, ask him tell the ruler of scandinavia to give them guns in exchange for diamonds. They give the frontiersman a diamond, drug him so he won't remember where the mines are, and send him back to Prince Eric's Land to deliver the message.

Forts are built in Cairo to properly defend a possible Ethiopian The main war victory proves critical in raising approval ratings and boosting moral for the citizens to support the war effort more. Horse men from mostly the North East of the nation are picked to join special assault units " Al Farsi", they are sent to the Sha to give Ba'yah to him in Theran and are given high stature in the army after completing harsh military training. • Maghreb: Although Maghreb is in support of the Arab-Persian Alliance and will send supplies and bolster Persian and Arab war efforts, Maghreb currently doesn't have the manpower to support a war and is still recovering from the Conquest of Mali so they will stay formally neutral. Populations continue to grow as art and architecture blossoms. Many political sects and ideologies form from the three main groups. The philosophies of the enlightenment continue to become more widespread accross Maghreb. The Parliament also reorganizes the colonies of Maghreb(specifically Tajammanid, Aydu Bayda, and Al Maqadas) into the Overseas Laurentian Vizierate. The Emirate of Ard Al Zuhur and Forts in Cabinda are placed under control of the Islamic Colonial Company. The Emirate of Mali is also placed under direct control of Maghreb and made a department of Maghreb. After Fula rebellions in Seluja, the sultanate is placed on the Fulo Empire's control. The Sultan falls ill and faith in his leadership begins to wane among the royal house and parliament. Maghrebi Soldiers are stationed at the ethiopian border to prevent any spillover from the war.
  • Islamic Colonial Company: Many more members of the company start organizing a trip around the horn of Africa. The Expedition will stop off at the Sultanate of Zayiyr and Swahili before heading west to Indonesia and continue to OTL Australia, where rumored Makassan fishermen visited and discovered a vast landmass. It is expected to reach Australia by next year. When stopping off in Zayiyr, the Corsair Corps visit the Sultan and offer to give him protection from Europeans and neighbors in exchange for a tribute (Mod Response).

We send a list of demands to the Italian League demanding that they cede the southern half of their nation immediately, and become a puppet of Sicily, who shall be viewed as the dominant Italian power.

• Italian league: We receive news of the declaration of war by Sicily and immediately begin moving our forces south. Considering that the forts were already garrisoned and the nation was already mobilized 60,000 professional soldiers and 60,000 unprofessional soldiers are immediately brought to the border in time to counterattack the invasion force. The invading force is first met at the Battle of Lanciano, and again further south against a second army. having repulsed the initial assault, 20,000 professional soldiers and a large armada are brought to the coast to launch an assault on Bari, in an attempt to surround the Sicilian army in the center of their nation.
• Ethiopian Empire: Completely taken off guard by the sudden invasion by Arab forces, much of the border forces for the Kingdom of Egypt are quickly pushed back, while word is sent south to the Emperor. Theodore II, now over 50 years old, rises to the occasion to be a Great Leader for his people just as he was back in the last Arab-Ethiopian War. Although he moved out of Medinah Jamil to a more central location, he nonetheless remained in Ethiopia proper while commanding troops from a distance. In early April the city of Naples falls to the Italians, but not before the king and his government, as well as the bulk of the garrison, manages to flee by sea. The king arrives in Palermo to established a new capital, while the armed forces under the command of de Marsala arrive in Calabria to aid the king's son, the Duke of Calabria, in the defense of the peninsula. By May, however, the Italian army essentially drives out the Sicilians from the mainland, leading to a general retreat to Sicily proper. The king calls for defenses to be placed all around the island, and refuses to consider peace no matter what. He orders letters be sent to the Papal States apologizing for breaking the peace, but requesting that the Papal States come to their aid to preserve the balance of power in Italy and preserve security for their own nation. He also threatens to break away from the church if the Papal States continues to interfere in the religious matters of the kingdom while not coming to its aid. Also, they look at modern history, of what the Caliphate accomplished in the last decades of its existence. Religion flourishes across monestaries. Ministers in Medina Jamil begin considering reaching out for foreign aid agaisnt future threats from the Arab world.

• Jaffarid Arabia: We begin losing our front of the war, and to continue citizen support for the war, begin spreading anti-Ethiopian propaganda shaming Ethiopia for collapsing the Caliphate and effectively humiliating Islam. We tell our Muslim brothers in Ethiopia to rebel against the Coptic nature of the nation to help restore greatness to our holy religion and to our holy state, as well as to free our true leader, the Caliph. We secretly prepare what should be are final push in the Ethiopian War, and if our Muslim brother's trapped inside the confines of Ethiopia were to succeed in rebelling, then we should be able to make a large push to re-occupy the Sinai and much of the eastern region of Egypt. Upon re-occupation of those locations, we would seek a formal end to the conflict if possible.

• Sultanate of Cyprus: Sultan Jalil begin to invest in reconstructing his fleet after it was stolen by the Italians. Rumors are still around that the succession could cause frictions between the Sultan and his son. Many in the population believe that the current problems of the island are due to the openess of the island, while other believe the conservative attitude of the Sultan is only making things worst. Sultan Jalil is attempting to zap the popularity of Farid and paint him as a conspirator of the Italians, with little success.
• United Kingdom of Great Britain: The colonies enter a second year of conflict with French colonise. In an attempt to scale up the war 100 ships of the Royal Navy are sent out to act as privateers seizing all french flagged cargo ships obviously avoiding enemy war fleets or anything the privateers can't handle. 80 of the ships remain in the Atlantic going after transatlantic trade while 20 ships dock at New Canterbury and hit any french shipping trying to go past the cape. This is designed to affect french commerce. Additionally 50 ships and another 10,000 professional troops are sent from Britain to the Americas to support the fighting. 50 British and 50 Burgundian ships blockade Borniquen (Puerto Rico) tightly stopping food and troops from entering or leaving making it only a matter of time before the large french troop presence starts to suffer from lack of food. A task force of 100 ships supported by 40,000 troops we sail down to OTL Fortaleza and attack it with these 40,000 troops. After that we dig in at Fortaleza. The newly arrived forces from Britain and Burgundy are stationed in Avalon for this year.
