The Ming Dynasty still rules over the vast lands of China. On the other side of the world, the Hundred Years War continues between England and France. Europe is still stuck in the old ways of feudalism and chivalry while the notions of a New World are considered figments of imagination.

We welcome you to the long awaited fourth expansion of that immortal series. Welcome to Principia Moderni IV! Starting in 1400 AD, this is the dawn of the modern world and the tail end of the Middle Ages. The Renaissance is just kicking off in Europe, while the nations in the western side of the continent are locked in the last gasp of the Hundred Years War. The Muslim world is still reeling from the invasions of Turks and Mongols, with the Caliphate resting in the collapsing Mamluk Egypt and the Ottomans on the rise in Anatolia. Make it count.

The first game was the most successful on the wiki, leading all the way to the modern day with mostly plausible posts and little controversy. The second game reached almost to the modern day, but failed due to a plethora of ASB events and moderator bias. The third game was much more worthy of the first, almost running into implausibility but climbing back into a shining glory by the end. Riding on the latest reforms of map games since the end of PMIII, this is the most logical next step in that evolution. Remember above all other rules — have fun.

Banned Users

A ban from plausibility strikes lasts thirty days, afterwhich the third strike is repealed and the banned player is unbanned. However, the newly unbanned player rejoins the game with two strikes, as a form of probation.

  • Vivaporius (1490)
  • Nathan (1490) (see us about your discussion on issues here. -Feud)

Plausibility Strikes

Three strikes and you're out! Each strike resets after 30 years of the most recent strike.

  • Tim - II (1481)
  • Nathan - II (1487)
  • Feud - I (1490)
  • Tre - I (1516)

Moderator Strikes

These are strikes for moderators and how they moderate. The same three strikes rules apply. If a moderator is banned from moderating, however, they can still play as their nation. Mod strikes can be delivered in one of three ways:

  1. If a sufficient number of players (more than half of all players voting) vote to give a moderator a strike.
  2. If I, Scraw, give them a strike.
  3. If a majority of all mods (ie more than half of the total number of mods, excluding that moderator) vote to give a moderator a strike.

Moderators can be given strikes for the following reasons:

  1. Exhibiting bias that would benefit the nation they are playing.
  2. Exhibiting bias that would negatively affect a player they have a personal dispute with.
  3. Making a ruling that contradicts a proven fact from OTL or an established fact from earlier in the game.
  4. Overruling a decision of a majority of moderators.

The Bahmanid Sultanate has a civil war after the death of the current Sultan. Two of his nephews are at war, with one trying to maintain the Muslim grip over the nation with the other attempting to pacify the Hindus by aligning with them.

The current papal residence in Rome is still medieval in design, and as such, cracks form in the roof and allow rain to start leaking through. Mud begins to collect on the Vatican floor. (mud event)

Rumors begin to spread among the Incas that one day the great Godess of Chimu will return to reclaim her throne

Iberia begins to expand their colonies in the Carribbean, looking for a passage to China. They contract van Kronk, who has left the service of the English.

  • Kingdom of Burgundy: now with Kuba to operate out of, the Burgundian West India Company establishes a new subsidiary company, the Massachusetts Bay Company, whose first action is to fund the establishment of a colony on the coast of the bay it takes its name from. By the end of the year, the merchant galleon Fleur-de-lis lands there, leaving behind a group of colonists before returning for Burgundy. Little did its crew know of the hardships that would befall the colonists. Meanwhile, the Burgundian East India, with the support of the Burgundian Crown, offers the Buddhist and Hindu leaders in Ceylon, in light of the turmoil engulfing the Bahmanid Sultanate, protecion if they acknowledge the the East India Company as their overlords (mod response pls).
    • The local ruler of Ceylon accepts. -scraw
  • Sultnate of the Ottomans: Suleiman begins to work on modernizing the army and amassing the people to a more Pro-War type people, the slaves from africa are given freedom (seeing I can't make a deal to free them) they are sent to mosques and cities to work on improving things.  Suleiman renames the state to an Emirate (but it's just a name change a nothing happens).  Suleiman is seen as a strong man as he begins to work on the nation's military might. The population begins to grow mostly around the city of Anakar and Izhimr. Suleiman begins to work on creating all black janasir units (due to them being slaves). The amount of Turks that drift to the Gurkani state begins to stall and people begin to slowly leave the idea. A Grand Mosque is made named the "Mosque of the north". Artist and like-minded people across the nation are sent to Ankara to help the state. Traders are sent to sent to Syria to trade and gain recruits for new units. The weapons from the Gurkani state are put to use and are looked at to work on producing more. A book named "the window into the human body" is made after research was made on the human body. Suleiman begins to work on a mixed military.Amernian christans are left alone and won't pay jizay until 4 years. areas are bulided to open trade, while Amernians are put in office job in Armenain areas.Madrassa are made talking about unity among muslim and things like that. Gurkians weaponry is study by men at Ankara and are copied. A army is sent to Trezbond with 30,000
    • Azeristan/Azerbaijan: the state is run by Azerbanijs, and give out religious ruling calling for men to help trade and open up to Kurds in the areas to tighten the bond. Madrassa are made talking about unity among muslim and things like that. Non-muslim are left alone and only pay jizya, Christians are put in office jobs in Christian areas.
  • Abbasid Caliphate: In order to avenge the families of deported Berbers, Al-Najm the Great plotted a campaign to take Morocco from Iberia once more. He sent 60,000 troops into Maghreb and battle at the region of Oujda on the boder, commanded by his cousin Musa Al-Abbas. The victory was decisive, and gained much territory in the deserts of Maghreb, but did not succeed in taking all of Morocco. After Musa reported this victory to Al-Najm, he determined in his heart to hold keep the border defended until he can achieve an edge over the Ahl-Al Kitab. At home, the House of Wisdom continues to be constructed in Baghdad, with a large observatory added this year. The Shayalnass institutes a system of local governors to be elected from their own communities, and administrate according to their own customs, based on the Millet system of the Ottoman Empire. As such, communities adhering to the unofficial sects of Islam are not persecuted in the Caliphate, but carefully marginalized. The ships captured from Gurkani are incoporated into the Abbasid navy, and the technology begins to be studied at the harbor of Alexandria.
  • Chinese Empire: Islam continues to spread. Sakhalin continues to be fortified. More later.
  • Russian Tsardom: Under the glorious reign of Tsar Alexis, we have triumphed over the Gurkanis and the Astrakhan and have conquered many new lands. According to a census we now have around 11 million people (5 million Russia, 4.5 former Astrakhan, 1.5 Occupied Caucasus, Scraw Confirmed). We send away the mercenaries, and give veterans plots of land in the occupied lands so they can settle down. In the occupied lands, we attempt to convert the majority Muslim populace by establishing a religious tax similar to the jizya for them while we also restrict public office to Christians in order to encourage people to convert. We also build roads, churches, schools around the Tsardom especially in the occupied areas. We begin to urge Christians in the Ottoman/Abbasid lands to move and come to the new conquered territories to tighten our control over the majority Muslim populace. (Mod response). We begin a plan of integrating and Christianising these occupied territories as well as modernising them. We build orphanages to take in children orphaned in the war and indoctrinate them with Russian culture and convert them to Christianity. We build poorhouses to look after the poor, convert them, and help train them to be productive. We make public laws limiting the native language and making Russian the official language. We begin indoctrinating children in schools to be loyal to Russia, the Tsar, and to become Christian. We send captured weaponry from the war with the Gurkanis back to Novgorod for study and hope to duplicate their technology. We also take back books and texts for study.
    • Kingdom of Georgia: The King Thomas of the re-established Bagration line, has liberated Georgia from the Gurkanis and now is an autonomous vassal of Russia. We start to rebuild Georgia, and copy the reforms of Russia, taxing and restricting the Muslim populace while encouraging Christian immigration from the former Gurkani Sultanate. We begin to build fortifications through the country to protect ourselves from further aggression. We build (with the help of Russia) a University in Tblisi, which is focused on learning Gurkani knowledge to advance the Kingdom and the Tsardom. We also research captured Gurkani weaponry and plan along with Russia to rearm our forces with these weapons in the years to come. We also rebuild our economy and encourage, Christians to move back to Georgia.
  • Swahili:  We continue our agriculture policies. The royal guards continue capturing slaves. In the heartland of Mogadishu, the Bank of Mogadishu begin cooperation with landlords to construct hydraulic devices such as canals and irrigation projects to boost food production. Areas interior to Mobassa and Malindi is colonized. We also send out conquistadors to expand northwards into more northern Somalia. We begin building plantations on Madagascar, capturing local tribesmen as slaves. With the revolution in Buha, we feel a vague feeling with arguments in the Sultan's court. While some thought we should let Buha become independence, due to its position in the hinterlands, the fact that the only time Swahili influenced Buha is by sending some Islamic imams, and that Swahili never controlled any regions of Buha; on the other hand, some officials believed in war, as due to the sudden anti-Swahili rebellion in Buha, Swahili has gained a valid casus belli. We call up our army and station them near the lakes of Eyasi and Turkana (5,000 near each lake) if an intervention does happen.
  • Papal States: The muddy mess in the Papal Palace in the Vatican leads the Cardinal Vicar-General of Rome (Pope Adrian VI being still away in Cologne) to re-examine the plans of Pope Leo X for redesigning the Vatican. Although the sketches are primarily for St Peter's basilica, there are some plans for a modernisation of the Papal residences. New architects and engineers are brought in by the Vicar-General to look at the plans, propose amendments or new plans, and get cracking on the clearly much-needed work. Looking at the Papal coffers (which aren't in a bad condition, but aren't ready for a major building project), the Vicar-General asks the Fuggers of Augsburg to give a quote on an appropriate loan, or to suggest some other form of money-mking venture. In Sao Pedro in Nova Lusitania, the Immaculata begin work on building a church worthy of the new continent, whilst working unceasingly to bring the natives to Christianity. The Immaculata order continues to increase in number, with many in universities all over Italy, the Iberian peninsula, Southern Germany, and the Catholic cantons of Switzerland. The contribution of the Northern-Rite HRE bishops in the Council of Colgone is greatly appreciated, and after eight gruelling years it is beginning to look like some progress can be made.
  • Korea continues mass-militarization and prosperity under new monarch Kim Jimin, who replaced his father, Kim Taehyung, who has no relinquished role as the regent. Industrial complexes continue growth, with the growth of noble-owned chaebol firms. Production of gunpowder weaponries (e.g., the Korean cannon, wheel-lock rifles, hwacha), while the metallurgical industries are augmented with the construction of blast-furnaces. Mines spring across the northern countryside to harness northern Korea's vast mineral wealth. Meanwhile, Kim Jimin relegates the Joseon royal navy to a force of two-hundred ships from five hundred (remaining ships being either powerful panokseon or geobukseon, while smaller weaker ships scrapped) guarding maritime borders and coastlines. These ships are packed with naval artilleries from the scrapped ships as a defense mechanism from piracy. Meanwhile, the Manchu–Korean border wall continues to be reinforced, as well as associated fortifications, with twenty thousand troops being mobilized along the border in case of a Manchu or Chinese spillage. The standing army stands at sixty thousand levies. Meanwhile, envoys are sent to the Horde to establish a military pact in exchange for a tributary relationship, with a proposal that Korea sends a tribute mission every year (MOD RESPONSE). The Kim dynasty continues the reentrenchment Confucian rites and custom, with virtually all yangban being of Confucian faith. Confucian values such as scholarship, merit, and artistry are promoted, and several academies and universities are built with many of the yangban elite partaking in education.

  • Chiefdom of Hawai'i: After Keli‘iokaloa's father,ʻUmi-a-Līloa, united Hawai'i island, Keli‘iokaloa proclaims himself supreme ruler of Hawai'i and has made a promise to bring all the islands under one rule. We begin building more ships and fortifying the ports to handle more activity. We also send a delegate to Maui to ask for a future marriage of children.( need mod response).
    • All of this hinges on Hawai'ian Mythology. I'm all for the use of mythology in posts, but is it really fair to use it to just make huge grabs of power? Lord knows how long I played Australia and never united more than a city-state -Nate mod

  • Brandenburg-Luxembourg: Having secured the deal with Bohemia, and having obtained the votes of Bohemia, the archbisoprics, and the Palatine, Freidrich adopts the title of King of Germany and requests that the pope recieve him as the next Holy Roman Emperor. In an effort to permanently raise the status of his family and obtain a title worthy of his estates and family's prestige, Freidrich declares the establishment of the Kingdom of Prussia, out of the Duchy of Prussia, the Magraviate of Brandenburg, the Duchy of Pomerania, Duchy of Holstein, and the Duchy of Silesia, and he further integrates the Duchies of Lorraine, and Luxembourg into the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg-Lorraine, He requests that the pope recognize these new domains as the perpetual domains of the House of Brandenburg-Prussia (as the duke of Prussia he inherited the domains) under Agnatic Primogeniture laws. Freidrich continues to consolidate his centralization of power into the monarchy having successfully submitted most of the nobility to his control, and having stripped them of most of their military autonomy by integrating them into the Royal Army. He continues to promote the development of a stronger army and continues to expand the usage of firearms in his forces. The arms industry in the domains of the crown. Investment into improved firearms begin particularly focusing on developing a cheaper and more easily used mechanism then the wheel lock to go alongide the match locks. Gun smithies start developing blure prints for potential replacements (the otl snaplock, was invented in the 1540s otl so i am developing blueprints now and will have it out in the late 1530s, ive been a major investor in gun development and was one of the earliest users of firearms in europe in large amounts this game, as one of the major hre powers, and the emperor i also have the funds to sustain large scale development of firearms and a military that uses them in large amounts). Development of early line formations also starts to improve the firing rate of the aruquebusiers. More cannons are produced. Scholars artists and scientists who have been studying in exchange with England, and Bulgaria are starting to make a major impact on the studies within the growing academic circles of Freidrich's domains, and increased funding for universities, and the education system in general grows. Freidrich continues the habit of funding the arts and sciences in the court of the Berlin Palace. Major focus is placed on Pholosophy, chemistry, engineering, theology, mathematics, biology, and astronomy. Freidrich taking an interest in the colonial developments of England sends a letter to his son requesting English help in setting up a Joint venture on the continent of Arcadia somewhere near the otl mouth of the Hudson River after having seen the maps of English adventurers and having seen the potential in Fur trading ( ihave discussed this in detail with Scraw he said i could piggy back onto England's colonial adventures as we will be in a pu pretty soon.). He also seeks to expand the economic power of Berlin in the North Sea and North Atlantic with the new port of Kiel under his authority Freidrich begins setting up an expansion of the small navy requesting expertise from English ship builders in exchange for help from Luxembourgish and Brandenburger technicians in other areas.  A cultural shift away from the Italian renassaince and more into a German one continues in Berlin and other major cities developing into something along the lines of OTL Bohemian or early early modern north German architecture This is proving to become the major architectural style. Expansion of the noble estates continue allowing a greater yield in crops, and expansion of mining activities in SIlesia, Luxembourg, and Lorraine continue as well as an expansion of the arms industry, and metal smithies in general.
    • English dip: King William and Frederick's son agrees to do a joint venture to construct a colony south of Avalon and north of New Gwynedd as well as several ship builders and designs are sent to Germany to aid in ship construction.
  • Sultanate of Bengal: A formal offer of alliance is extended to the Swahili Sultanate. The Sultan also asks if the Swahili require assistance with their troubles in Buha. In other news, the road network is improved.
    • Ahom Kingdom: Nothing of note.
    • Kingdom of Ava: Nothing of note.

  • 'Bulgarian Empire: Under what is known as the Bull' of Tarnovo proclaimed by the Grand patriarch, the unification of the Bulgarian and Russian churches begins, re-expanding the orthodox faith to encompass a fair portion of eastern Europe. Bulgaria requests that Poland convene with the Grand Patriarch for religious council and to maintain stability of the majority orthodox poland (mod). Outside of this some of Bulgarias prominent but relatively small scale cities of Plovdiv, and and the larger Sofia branch out of their fortress like style with the cities expanding outside the traditional fortifications into a sort of Urban Sprawl. The Bulgarian cities are numbered to be at 35,000 and 50,000 respectively. The City of Vasiligrad after years of prominent and advertised settlement to Bulgarians opens its gates for the first time in nearly a century, to other ethnicities wishing to settle in the city for the favoritism on trade practive. This noticeably attracts a Dutch trading familiy seeking to make for better fortunes in the resurgent east, the capital of the Renaissance. This also sees several prominent Polish and Russian families setting in their own parts of the city bringing with them Merchants, a few nobles and some freemen. This establishes both the Russian and Polish wards of the city. The City is estimated to have a population of nearly 200,000 and growing as the internationalism focus on the city due to its increased trade volume has given it new life. It also sees many nobles and high ranking merchants who come refuse to leave, the lavish life of the city proving an extrememly difficult thing to leave behind. The City also notably opens its first major Bulgarian built and funded university known as the University of Vasiligrad taking its name after its home city. The rest of the country sees a new flowering of culture and stability as the wounds of the religious civil war are left behind by many of Bulgarias nobles, and freemen. The Greeks themselves even seem quite contempt with their possition asserted, but also having little to no incentive to revolt. The repopulation of the Greek countryside with Bulgarian settlers is seen as somewhat hostile however the inclusion of settlers from all over the Balkans is even more mysterious as the Greeks are somewhat forced to integrate with this complex new social system coming about near Athens and Larissa. It is made very prominently clear that Bulgarian is the established lingua franca of the area with the Bulgarian nobles enforcing this above all else. With now access to outright pilgramage to many of the holy sites in the Caliphate and an extremely preferential trade agreement in effect due to the symbiotic relationship between the pacification of the Caliphates christian populations, in exchange for the relatively preferentially priced trade route which now routes to Vasiligrad. The population expands to roughly 5.08 million with some extra growth coming as immigrational shifts from other balkan areas showing gravitation towards Bulgaria as a settlement destination.
  • Mayapan: Trade continues with the Mexica and the Iberian colonies. Despite Iberian aid, Smallpox continues to ravage the country. The Emperor orders all citizens with the disease report to Iberian Aid Camps, or else isolate themselves completely. Royal engineers begin to examine Iberian sailing vessels and try to replicate them. Expansion continues along the southern border. Integration of the southern city-states into the League is continued by the High Council. Each new state is expected to supply men to train and serve in the national army. The council seeks to improve commerce and communication between the many settlements of the Yucatan by constructing and maintaining roads between them. Work continues to renovate and update existing buildings and roads, and to create plans for future upkeep and renovations.
  • France: Reaffirms its connection to the catholic church. France continues the expansion of the navy, and works to deepen the relationship with Portugal. Exploration of the New World Begins, particularly in the OTL New York and Canada area.
  • Portugal:   Interest in colonization sweeps Portugal. According to Iberian folklore, Christian refugees fled to an island far to the west of Portugal and founded the Isle of Seven Cities. While most in Portugal believe the Isle of the Seven Cities is a myth, there are those who believe in the superstition. A wave of interest hits the poorer parts of Portugal, some believing that the real Isle of the Seven Cities is out there somewhere, gold and riches awaiting them. The King knows that this fervor is only temporary and begins planning to create several deals that will encourage people to settle in the New World. However, he does establish a revolutionary deal in favor of the Catholic Church and Portugal alike: The Papéis do Clero or 'The Clergy Papers.' The Portuguese government offers admission of missionaries and clergymen alike to receive a free education and plot of land in the New World. In exchange, the clergy or missionaries must travel to the New World and settle there for ten years. Their trips are paid for by Portugal. It also encourages clergy who are already ordained to travel to the New World and spread the word of Catholicism to the natives. Portugal makes contact with the Mayans, who intrigue Manuel I deeply. He wishes for a better relation with the Mayans, though he also wants to spread Christianity to the heathen nation. He sends several missionaries bearing gifts. In the meantime, they also learn of the Aztec Triple Alliance, which seems to be a growing threat in the area. In addition, Portugal explores the Amazon River mouth. They consider placing another colony in the area for the purposes of lumber production. However, they decide they have enough colonies as-is currently and elect to wait. Portugal sends an envoy to the Papal States and requests permission from the Pope to spread the good word of Catholicism to any natives in the New World who will lend an ear. Those who don't lend an ear will 'have their ears opened with force.' In the meantime, Mayapan is asked if they wish to take part in removing the threat of the Mexican Triple Alliance. In addition, they begin exploring the area of Mexico.
  • Kingdom of England and Ireland: A group of English merchants seeking to hunt for rumoured gold assemble enough cash and form the London prospecting company which sends out a ship containing a 100 men who go west across the Atlantic to the Iberian colonies and then sail south along the coast ignoring the vast rain forests believing exploration of them is impossible due to their density and so he continues south until the cape turns west again and they sail along it before coming to the mouth of a river which they halt at and set up a colony which they call Williamstown (Buenos Aires) and the 100 men construct a fort next to the river while their ships return back to England to give word of their placement and establishment. The colony plans to trade with natives and explore the land while receiving supplies from back in England. Meanwhile in New Gwynedd the first tobacco is grown by an enterprising farmer who grows a large healthy crop and then on a supply ship coming from England the tobacco is sent home and the crop is presented before the court. The lighter tobacco is at first smoked by the regent in a pipe who enjoys it and so the court takes it up while Henry sends some tobacco and pipes to his nephew and protectorate William in Germany to share with court. It is well valued and a note saying that they wish for more to be grown and that they will help fiance the colony better for it. In Avalon the first dried and salted fish and whale meat is sent home to England as the rate they are making their catches is exceeding their demand for the fish and in exchange crops from England are sent over to Avalon. In England things continue to go well with tobacco becoming a rare item as the first batch is very small driving up prices for a second batch. The growing academic competition between Oxford and Cambridge grows as they both send scholars travelling around Europe to discover new knowledge, Oxford starts awarding extra titles to those who study both in Spain and Italy encouraging people to take the time to visit other learning institutions.
    • Austro-Bavaria Dip: The University of Abbeburg requests an academic exchange with Oxford, in order to further renaissance ideas, free exchange of thought and Humanist values. Likewise, the University of Vienna itself also requests an accademic exchange...with Cambridge.
  • The Swiss Confederacy has had nothing of note.
  • (Is North Italy dead?) -Oh Boy! Click me!
  • Cologne: It appears that finally the discussions at the Council of Cologne are coming to a close. Archbishop Rhoderich welcomes the idea of an Imperial Synod, thanking Friedrich of Brandenburg for his proposal and His Holiness for his counter-proposal. However, he knows that his job as president may be difficult if he does not prepare. Whilst Brandenburger delegates are in Cologne, Archbishop Rhoderich offers to create some more permanent links between the Northern and Latin parts of the HRE, first by starting an exchange program between the University of Cologne and the University of Brandenburg (Berlin?) which would be linked with seminaries and thus encourage critical religious thinking (rather than blind adherence) and an open mind among new priests. For that reason, Archbishop Rhoderich also requests that Brandenburg build seminaries in order to facilitate this cooperation and pan-HRE unity. Meanwhile, critical religious thinking in Westphalen and Cologne continues to be encouraged, with this year Archbishop Rhoderich building a new seminary in Kolschberg.
    • Essen: Abbess Meina continues Solis Ortum walks and many of her canonesses finish investigation into a new Rule and begin writing out relevant texts. The women wanting to create the Daughter Abbey at Dormagen gain in numbers, thanks to the word that has travelled about this new Order.
    • Prussian Dip: Frendrich agrees to have an exchange between the university of Berlin and the University of Cologne. and to the creation of seminars.
  • Augsburg: Spice trading continues. Anton requests that his wife is named hier of the Hohenzollern family. (MOD RESPONSE)
  • Norway: The landing of the Arcadia expedition team at OTL Nova Scotia claiming the land in the Name of Queen Diana naming the island Vinland. Because the movement around Avalon some contact is made with the English Colony and move along the Coast of Northeastern Arcadia moving around the Caribbean region into the Atlantic Stream back into europe by the end of the year most charting is of the coastline and not much inner exploration besides Vinland and Avalon. After much debate the Count Christian accepts the Marriage offer due to no other offers of Marriage coming up. The expansion of development at home and abroad continues
  • Maximillian of Austria-Bavaria, hearing of Prussian Kingdom creation, denounces the creation as an "act befitting only self-agrandizement and not the good of the Empire, an act of shameless nepotism". IN other news, the Austro-Bavarians are very unhappy at being stifled at this election once more, begining to think other types of actions may be required to secure the Holy Roman Crown. In Any case, the economy gets a boost from Venetian trade which has made a hub in Vienna. The Traders are attracting much competition, and with that economic competition, they attract many notable natural philosophers, alchemists and other such scholars. Munich's economy and size continues to grown, quickly becoming the largest city in the lands of the Habsburgs, reaching a population of seventy thousand people. The fires of industry burn day and night as the gunsmiths of the city continue to produce wheelock muskets for the Archducal Guards, the permanant forces of the King-Archduke. Meanwhile, Trade from Italy comes in droves as more and more Venetian banks branches are established in Austrian and Hungarian lands, facilitating trade through this network. The mines in Tyrol and other alpine territories continue to bring in money, but now, with the co-operation of the venetians, trade begins to grow as a portion of the revenue of the state, allowing for more generous spending on matters such as Universities. Abbensburg University continues to grow, attracting many more scientific, theological and philisophical minds to Munich. Emmissaries are sent to England as to inquire about an academic exchange between Abbenburg University and Oxford.
    • The Hungarian Ecomony expands rapidly as traders from all around europe are now flooding its markets. Led in part by the venetians, who have now set up banks in various cities of Hungary, thus facilitating trade, the lands of Hungary begin to make quite a bit of money trading. This new investment into the economy spurns growth, increasing the competitiveness of the free market. The Venetians do not yet have an absolute hold on the trade, however, their mere presence acts as a great motivator for local entrepreneurs and other such craftsment to "up theri game". The presence of new and reliable Banks further icreases this growth, as while they are Venetian, these banks offer loans to locals as well, exmanding their wealth and buisnesses, turning the economies of Budapest and Transylvania. The Future looks bright, and this in turn reflects nicely on the King of Hungary, and his policies with Venice, that while initially were met with resentment because it opened up Hungary to Venice without tarrifs, now rejoice because the economy is booming precisely because of the financial tools brought from abroad. The Presence of Venetian Banks even encourages a group of Hungarian Goldsmiths, and Jewlers to Create their own Banks, making affairs even easier, increasing the happiness of the Diet. All in All, the long term effects are palpable, and as more and more people come to this realizaiton, more and more they are willing to accept Habsburg Rule without question. Meanwhile, this economic boost allows the military to boost its spending, making the instrument of war more efficient. Hungarina weaponsmiths begin producing wheelock muskets in order to arm the Hungarian Royal Guards, whose numbers now exceed twenty five thousand.
    • Venice continues its policies of trade and expansion, now seeking admittance to the compact of Beirut in order to access the Silk Road. The Venentian Arsenal and naval engineers are buisy creating more and newer ship designs and more effective naval cannons. venetian Technology in this area is unparalleled. The policy of potential fleet levies from venice urge it to provide arms to all civilian trade ships, and expand its navy as not to skimp out on trade protection. As the ARsenal continues to produce ships, the wealth of the nation grows with new inroads made into Germany made with each passing year. Patrician families establish banks all around Habsburg lands, from munich to Belgrade to Transylvania, unilateraly expanding the possibility of trade for venetian merchants carrying promisory notes.
    • Serbian economy also improves with the addition of venetian banks. Despot Aleksandar dies and is replaced by his eldest son, Stanislav. This new despot increases military sepending, and charters the creation of the Serbian First Regiment, the first standing army unit in Serbia to be completely and utterly armed with wheelock muskets.
    • The Swiss Confederacy has had nothing important.

Suleiman begins to work on a mixed military.Amernian christans are left alone and won't pay jizay until 3 years. areas are build to open trade, while Amernians are put in office job in Armenain areas. Madrassa are made talking about unity among muslim and things like that. Gurkians weaponry is study by men at Ankara and are copied. Trezibond is annexed. the state keeps the army on alert
    • Azerbaijan: the state is run by Azerbaijanis, and give out religious ruling calling for men to help trade and open up to Kurds in the areas to tighten the bond. Madrassa are made talking about unity among muslim and things like that. Non-muslim are left alone and only pay jizya, Christians are put in office jobs in Christian areas.
  • Abbasid Caliphate: Al-Najm fully converts Damascus as the new capital, re-asserting the focus of the Caliphate to administrate over the Middle East. At last, the three sacred treasures of Egypt were brought up from Cairo: the Crown of Sesostris, the Ring of St. Catherine, and the Sword of Saladdin. The House of Wisdom of Baghdad continues to be constructed, with the sections of the library divided roughly by subject matter. As the universties of Cairo and Damascus are grown, the same educational system are applied to Baghdad. The military sent to Maghreb remain stationed in Algiers, just in case war with Iberia needs to be resumed. Special economic status is granted to Bulgaria as a unique member of the Compact of Beyrut. The political requirements in the compact are lifted, and tarriffs are lowerd for them allong the northern waypoints. In exchange: they help to passify the Orthodox patriarchal seats in Antioch, Jerusalem, and Alexandria, and that they supply a stead stream of books from eastern Europe to the House of Wisdom while under construction. A central bank for the wealth of the Caliphate is established in Cairo, started using the African Fund. The Millet system is fully established, initially resulting in the growth and stimulation of individual cultures in Mesopotamia and Syria, the most diverse parts of the Caliphate. Continuing his campaigns to dominate the Mediterranean, Al-Najm the Great deploys the mighty navy captured from the Gurkani to take the city of Rhodes, the last thorn of the Crusade. 18,000 troops and 45 ships are sent to take the ctiy of Candia, while the same forces are sent to besiege Rhodes itself. The campaign is led by the new commander of the navy, Ismail Al-Meh.
  • Sultanate of Bengal: Sultan Yusuf Shah II throws his support behind the pro-Muslim nephew of the late Bahmanid Sultan. Also, the Sultan reiterates his offer of alliance to the Swahili Sultanate.
    • Ahom Kingdom: Nothing of note.
    • Kingdom of Ava: After the incorporation of Pegu into the Kingdom, Binnya Kyal II will rename the Kingdom to the Kingdom of Burma.
  • Prussia-Luxembourg: Freidrich declares complete support for the King of Bohemia and promises to support them at all costs against potential enemies of the crown be them domestic or foreign.  Freidrich begins looking to the Princes to optimize the management and administration of the Empire and he proposes that a Diet be called upon in 1535 to begin the process of simplifiying and empowering Imperial Administration (trying out one of the imperial reforms on the page, all HRE Players please look into it and Mods please respond for npc nations when the time comes.)  Freidrich continues to consolidate his centralization of power into the monarchy having successfully submitted most of the nobility to his control, and having stripped them of most of their military autonomy by integrating them into the Royal Army. He continues to promote the development of a stronger army and continues to expand the usage of firearms in his forces. The arms industry in the domains of the crown continue to grow. Freidrich takes an interest in the newly founded english colony in otl Buenos Aires.
    • Cologne Dip: Archbishop-Elector Rhoderich of Cologne looks forward to the Imperial Diet of 1535 and enquires again as to whether one of these Imperial Reforms could be the creation of an overarching judicial system in the Holy Roman Empire, as requested in 1481 after Cologne's rather confusing dispute with the Duke of Julich. The creation of such a court system would no doubt ensure further unity among states of the HRE. (OOC: Not sure if this is one of the 'designated' reforms already on the page, but it's probably useful because it happened OTL)
    • [OOC:] Yo Nk please accept the settlement in the Council of Cologne as promised.
  • Bulgarian Empire: With the Bull of Tarnovo in effect, the Bulgarian led Orthodox Church and the Russian independent rites begin to be merged, with concessions being given where needed to acommodate the sorely religiously isolated Russians. A religious hand is extended to Croatia hoping to include or at least bring into the fold some of their unitarians and possibly some theology. This is done through our existing alliance structure. The population grows to about 5.09 million and growing further as the settlements in greece begin to show some of their own independent growth. The Bulgarian settlement and assimilation in areas such as the province of Vlach continues in earnest as well with the Bulgarian and Vlach-Bulgarian populations continuing to further interbreed and expand now in many cases the Vlachs consider themselves Bulgarian over Wallachian, or in many cases remain interchangeable. This remains the case as the first mixed Vlacho-Bulgar nobles are born and prove to be a powerful unifying force as the two groups start to become indistinguishable, especially with more and more of the next generations proving to identity differently. (more to come)
  • Buha: Despite now following Olofun, we seek peace with Swahili as long as we are able to continue our Religion. We offer these terms. 1. Swahili will no longer interfere in our politics, and will not support any Islamist Coup that might happen. 2. Swahili does not send an army to destroy the state. 3. Swahili doesn't expand towards lake Rwanda. These are the terms. **Swahili please respond.
  • Kingdom of England and Ireland: The colony at Williamstown continues to be developed while tentative amounts of trade occur with the native and some animals brought over are allowed to graze and the settlement survives. In New Gwynedd exploiting the popularity of initial tobacco sales a number of other farmers seeking to obtain good cash rather than just survive move to grow some tobacco along with their current crops to see how much they can make and the crop is taken back to England where it is a commercial success and then many merchants purchase the tobacco and take it overseas to the HRE, France, Scandinavia and Spain to sell it in their markets and offer it to their royalty. This is hoped to start England have something to sell other than the wool trade. In Avalon the exchange of fish and whales for crops continues while farmers expand the land and farm they hold as the natives are dead from disease. In England a review of the navy is done with the scrapping of ageing ships and the fleet being kept at a steady 300 ships which are well built while the army reorganisation reforms keep it at 25,000 men on the roll with each marshal reporting he keeps his force good.
  • Papal States: Council of Cologne continues, with many hoping it will be able to be wrapped up in a few years. Devout Portugal is positively encouraged to spread Catholicism to the natives, and it is hoped that they will work closely with the Papal Nuncio. However they are warned that forced baptisms are invalid baptisms. The Immaculata in Sao Pedro grow in number, and hope to assist the Portuguese government in their conversion goals. Back in Rome, the Fuggers of Augsburg are again asked for some financial help so that much-needed renovations of Vatican buildings can take place.
  • Agusburg Dip: Of course. (ive been busy AF with school)
  • Maximillian of Austria-Bavaria, hearing of the unrest in Bohemia, secretly provides aid, monetary or otherwise, to the pro-Austrian faction in Bohemia. He also sends agents and ambassadors to prominent pro-Austria nobles to embolden them, telling them that Maximillian has their support, and not-so-subtly telling them that Austria has claim to the Bohemian throne through Anne of Bohemia, Maximillian's Grandmother. In Other news, economic integration of the former nations of Austria and Bavaria reach new heights with the aid of venice, which unifies de facto unifies the banking systems in the two territories. Several Banks in Vienna, as well as several in Munich, open branches in their respective counterparts, setting up competition with Venetian banks. This new economic prosperity breeds a new class of person little seen in other parts of europe: the wealthy commoner. Meanwhile, the foundries of war continue to roar across the nation. The recuritment in the Archducal guard grows as the organization further centralizes. Meanwhile, the actions of growing economic competition within the nation in turn grow interest in gaining a modern Education. Abbenberg University, founded on Humanist principles, attracts more and more people each year, entering into intense competition with the more conservative University of Venice. Overtures are done by both institutions to great European centres of learning in order to gain prestige, and other such ammenities. Natural Philosophers, theologians, and great thinkers of the Renaissance come to Europe. With a closer connection to Italy (most notably through venice), the renaissance and ideas pushed through these institutions of higher learning have a different feel to them, with more Italian influence. They begin to have a different tune to those being spread in Brandenburg. While not wholy Italian, the renaissance in Austria-Bavaria cannot be considered wholy "German" either. It is its own, the Austrian renaissance, a seeming meld of both styles, infused in the Archetecture at every corner as both unversities expand their capuses, and the cities of the nation benefit from a cultural exchange.

  • Portugal Interest in colonization sweeps Portugal. However, he does establish a revolutionary deal in favor of the Catholic Church and Portugal alike : The Papéis do Clero or 'The Clergy Papers.' The Portuguese government offers admission of missionaries and clergymen alike to receive a free education and plot of land in the New World.
  • Chiefdom of Hawai'i: We begin the process of centralizing the government on the island. We set up the foundation for a unified government by telling all lesser Aliʻi (chiefs) that they will be representing their area in the central government once established. The Kahuna will be the judges along with the Ali'i Nui. This process will take at least 5-10 years to establish. We also begin the process of setting up the first capital village on the southern coast near OTL Pāhala. The village will be named Ka-luahine after mother earth. It currently only has the residence for the Ali'i Nui, Hale Ali'i, which was the house of the chief. It was used as a residence for the high chief and meeting house of the lesser chiefs. It was always built on a raised stone foundation to represent high social standing.

Lodewijk Bonapaart arrives in Japan. After some initial hostility, he is able to engage in better relations with the Japanese. Impressed by the people and the land, he decides that this must become a Christian island.

Tobacco, brought to Europe by the English, becomes very popular among nobility and some very wealthy merchants for chewing.

Kappel issues his "vernacular proclamation", stating that priests everywhere should translate the Vulgate into their local language. Already there are German and English translations, and with the help of Duverger, there is now a French one. Kappel also translates it into his native Dutch.

Whoah whoah, slow down. A one-year translation of an exceedingly long, dense, and complex book like the Bible? ~Cal

  • Kingdom of Burgundy: King Robert III dies this year, and is succeeded by his son, the now King John II (Jean II). Among his first acts is formally integrating the Duchy of Brittany into Burgundys administration. Also taking place is Burgundys first coronation naval review. The forty-six galleons natrually take center place, but also in attendance are the Navy's still numerous carracks, schooners, and galleys. Now with Ceylon to operate out of in addition to Nieuw Kapstads ever growing facilities, the Burgundian Navy sends ten galleons (six 5O-gun, two 54-gun, and two 60-gun) accompanied by screening schooners embark on a "showing the flag" voyage to the Malian, Bini, and eventually Indian ports, in an attempt to showcase Burgundys ability to project power and influence future dealings. With Benins fifty year lease of Flores island in the Sint Michael Islands expired, Burgundy takes possession of the island once more. The galleon Fleur-de-lis returns to the Massachusetts Bay with three more ships, laddened with colonists and supplies. The colony, now called Bilzen (OTL Boston), begins expanding. The Robertstad colony (based around OTL Georgetown, Guyana) expands by 100px.
  • Abbasid Caliphate: Al-Najm the Great, second of that name, returned to Damascus and retire to his palace in the citidel, where he was greeted with joyful celebration of his 50th birthday. This year, an itinerate Sufi master named Ibrahim Al-Nabi began foretelling a future reform of Islam in Aleppo, and reports grew of him performing miracles. The missions from Bulgaria to solidify the Orthodox Churches are carefully logged under formal procedings, adding it as a special case of pilgrimages under the Compact of Beyrut. In addition, this helps to enhance the Millet system enforced by the Caliphate over the minority groups within it. After many years of maginalization, the Pope of Alexandria became leader of the Coptic community in Alexandria. The separate communities in Syria and Iraq form discommunication and rivalries between the different sects. The House of Wisdom is completed this year, and begins to be stored with the new knwoledge collected. Over 300,000 books are recorded in the library archives, although it will take over a year to acutally store them all. The Bank of Cairo is expanded to branches across the Caliphate, although it is still controlled direcly by the Ulema. The islands of Rhodes and Crete are annexed by the Caliphate, forcing all the Kngihts and any other European colonization to be evicted. Rhodes is given to the Ottoman Empire. The navy in the Mediterranean is strengthened, decomissioning most of the Red Sea navy in the process. The military continues to be modernized to beyond the Ottomans, mostly by acquiring the arsenals of the Gurkani in Mesopotamia.
    • Abbasid Dip (to France): The Caliphate continues to ask France if they want to renew their lease on Cullo in exchange for the same alliance as before
    • France accepts.
  • Mayapan: Trade continues the Iberian colonies. Smallpox continues to ravage the country. The Emperor orders all citizens with the disease report to Iberian Aid Camps, or else isolate themselves completely. The Portugese diplomats are recieved, and discussions about the Mexica and Catholicism ensue.
    • Portuguese Dip: Firstly, Portugal thanks the Mayans for receiving their diplomats. Several missionaries work alongside the diplomats to decipher the Mayan language, taking what they've gathered over the past two years of exposure to the Mayans. Secondly, Portugal has noticed that Mexica has not exactly made friends with the other tribes in the area. The Portuguese offer to rid the land of these pests once and for all. However, they request allies in the war against the Mexicans. Mayapan is offered land and gold in exchange for assistance in the war.
    • Mayan Dip: Via the help of several newly trained translators, the Emperor and his advisors agree to the Portugese proposal for an alliance against the Mexica.
  • Cologne: Archbishop Rhoderich of Cologne thanks Friedrich for agreeing to the proposals and looks forward to a long partnership with the Emperor as the President of the Imperial Synod. It appears that only the formalities at the Council of Cologne are yet to be completed – finally, the stress of the previous decade has come to a close. People in the streets of Cologne begin to celebrate the exercising of the Lord’s Will in their city, but Archbishop Rhoderich and Abbess Meina remain vigilant. Meanwhile, critical religious thinking continues in Westphalen, Cologne and Kolschberg. Archbishop Rhoderich asks his Chapter to prepare an investigation into the HRE judicial system, so they can bring that commissioned report to the Imperial Diet.
    • Essen: Abbess Meina continues Solis Ortum walks. Her canonesses, meanwhile, continue to write out relevant texts for the new Order, but are not yet finished. The women at Dormangen wanting to create the daughter abbey are getting particularly excited by this news. Meanwhile, Archbishop Rhoderich offers to build a seminary at Essen and Abbess Meina accepts.
  • Papal States:   Kappel's proclamation has a mixed reception, with Pope Adrian and his Latin bishops agreeing that vernacular editions of the Bible should be made available, but all concurring that those editions should not be translated by an individual schismatic priest, but by a team of highly-specialised theologians and linguists, as the Essisches Bibel (Official German Translation) was. Back in Rome, the Cardinal Vicar-General of Rome, who is essentially running the shop in the Pope's long absence in Cologne, meets with a representative of the Fugger bankers to look at ways to make money and also at loan options. An initial deal is reached with the Fuggers getting mining rights to certain areas of the states, in an agreement which will profit both parties. Additionally, a relatively small initial loan is organised, and work beigns on improving the Papal residence (in which many other functionaries, like the Vicar-General, also live), both to stop future mud-disasters, secure the centuries-old engineering, and make the whole thing look more modern. In Cologne the Council continues, with the Brandenburger Northerners, backed by the Emperor, expected to ratify the compromise proposal any day [OOC: Nk pls agree to the settlement in the page as promised]. Meanwhile the Latin bishops begin drafting some disciplinary canons for the Latin Church to be included in the final Council documents. The canons reiterate many of the recent papal reforms, such as the banning of indulgences involving transfers of money, as well as the late Pope Leo X's anti-corruption drive against the corrupt monasteries which, though very successful, was not backed up by official documents or canons. In related news, Pope Adrian VI sends an ambassador to the Tsar of Bulgaria and the Ecumenical Patriarch in Constantinople. The ambassador asks that both consider agreeing to the proposal in the Ecumenical Council of Cologne, which fulfils the request of the Eastern bishops at the start of the Council by mandating that the Rites are on equal footing, that the Pope cannot interfere in the internal administration of any Rite without the express permission of the relevant Patriarch, and that Cardinals from any Rite will be able to be elected Pope. Given that these are the requests of the Eastern bishops, the ambassador states that refusing to end the unfortunate state of schism and rejoin communion with the rest of Christendom would surely be contrary to the will of God, who wishes that his Church be One.
  • The Swiss Confederacy has had nothing of note.
  • Chiefdom of Hawai'i: We continue to centralize the government and to build more in the capital village. We also start on a ring road (dirt road) along the island which will connect lesser villages together for trade (should take about 15-20 years to complete).
  • Kingdom of England and Ireland: As tobacco has some popularity for chewing in Europe, 250 English people go overseas to New Gwynedd with the specific intent of growing large amounts of tobacco to sell in Europe and in exchange for food to be shipped over. This works well for those already growing tobacco and it is hoped that this can be good money. Avalon farmers push further inland while fishers go further afield the vast amounts of space allow them to have good agricultural returns. The tobacco is spread throughout Europe. Williamstown in Laurentia is failing to make a profit but their merchant backers supported by the King agree to keep the project going and the project although suffering from disease is not starving. In England more muskets are introduced amongst soldiers while the navy has a number of cannons mounted on ships although the use of both is still very much in their infancy.
Missionaries and clergymen flock to the New World, populating both Brasil and Nova Lusitania. Trade from the colonies bring back sugar and coffee. While Portugal becomes incredibly interested in harvesting the sugarcane in Brasil, they are less interested, for now, in the coffee. However, some traders have purpoted that the coffee, when exposed to heat, produces a lovely aroma. In the meantime, the king enacts the Edital de cana de açúcar, or The Sugar Cane Act, offering cheap passage and plots of land to any who settle in the New World to harvest sugar cane. Portugal studies ship design and begins to work on improving the designs they currently have. The economy of Portugal sees much improvement this year due to the sugar trade and limited coffee trade to those seeking the bean. There are currently 1.5 million people living in Portugal. Assuming events remain as they are now, Portugal's population will be 2 million by 1550. However, there is a very large baby boom occurring as a result of Portugal's independence. If these rates remain steady, the population could reach 2 million even sooner.
    • Brasil: Several ships settlers arrive this year and quickly begin working on docks and farmland. The settlers have only been on the site since April, though they are still able to have a bountiful harvest. As of December, there are 250 people in the colony.
    • Nova Lusitânia: The settlement of Balboa Rocha (Balboa Rock) sees a new shipment of passengers from the Old World. In addition, relations with the native tribes go well. The area is home to several indigenous tribes, most notably the Caverna tribe (OTL Cueva tribe. Cueva translates to 'cave' in Spanish, as does Caverna in Portuguese.) However, the settlers notice a mass die-off of natives in the area. The colony wishes to trade with the tribes in both OTL Mexico and Peru. Later this year, the Immaculata priests from the Papal States settle in Balboa Rocha. They are given a plot of land for the construction of the church of São Pedro. As of December, there are 350 people in the colony.
  • .Prussia-Luxembourg: Freidrich continues to actively support the king of Bohemia and the Pro-Prussian faction supplying them with arms, and money to maintain power. Freidrich begins looking to the Princes to optimize the management and administration of the Empire and he proposes that a Diet be called upon. Prussia begins to place influence on the Electorate of Saxony which it helped secure the independence of during the second war of the lions. Freidrich begins approaching the other countries to get them to recognize the New title of the Kingdom of Prussia. in 1535 to begin the process of simplifiying and empowering Imperial Administration (trying out one of the imperial reforms on the page, all HRE Players please look into it and Mods please respond for npc nations when the time comes.) In Holstein the English shipwrights are put to work with building a couple of capital ships for the small prussian Navy, aswell as instructing Prussian shipbuilders on how to make more efficient and sea worthy ships.
  • The Kingdom of France, having secured an Alliance with Portugal and Egypt, mobilizes for war against Iberia, declaring war and moving an army of 70,000 men to invade, marching on Bareclona. The purpose of this war is to reestablish France as one of Europe's great powers.

Suleiman begins to work on a mixed military.Amernian christans are left alone and won't pay jizay until 3 years. areas are build to open trade, while Amernians are put in office job in Armenain areas. 1533

Lodewijk Bonapaart returns to Europe, sailing to Rome before going home and seeking an audience with the Pope, declaring that the Europeans must immediately Christianize the islands of Japan, or Giapan as he calls it. He advises the Pope to send the Immaculate to the islands.

Among Bonapaart's crew was a rougish French sea captain named Adrien Catnoir, well known for his green eyes and bright blonde hair. On the same journey he visited Korea, and fell in love with its beautiful countriside and fascinating people, vowing to return some day

  • Kingdom of Burgundy: the "showing the flag" squadron sent to India last year returns home, keeping on alert as they pass by Iberia. The Army of Flanders and Army of Holland are put on alert, and the rest of the army is mobilized in response to France's aggression. Burgundys Mediterranean forces, reinforced with modern galleons, galleys, and schooners, is also put on alert, and local commanders are authorized to take "necessary" action to protect the Burgundian merchants in the Mediterranean. The Massachusetts Bay colony and Robertstad (OTL Georgetown, Guyana) colony expand by 100px each.
  • Norway: Continued exploration of arcadia continues other than that nothing of note.
  • PIRI REIS MAP

    The Abu Rass Map

    Abbasid Caliphate:
The 80,000 men sent under Musa Al-Abbas continue to push their way into Morocco. To aid their invasion, Al-Najm the Great sends an additional 60,000 men, a bit slower due to heavier Persian artillery and elite Kilabarub soldiers. The plan is to annex all of Morocco except for the region of Gibraltar itself, which will be left for Europe. Sultan Zayn ibn Adfal, the ruler of Africa, entertained embassadors from the Caliph in Tunis. There the Caliph ensured Zayn that, as soon as the iniquity of the berbers are avenged, he will be granted more independence as ruler of Africa, just as in the days of the Hafsids before. The Bank of Cairo is fully established, although it is largely an unknown entity as it is compelled to charge no interest according to an order form the Ulema. An embassy is sent to India along the Silk Road to accept the alliance of Bengal, carrying 10,000 pieces of gold as proof of good will. It and any other nation is offered to join in the Compact of Beyrut if it hasn't already. The navy continues to be expanded in the Mediterranean at the expense of the Red Sea navy. An abbasid admiral named Abu Rass draws up the world's first map of the Atlantic ocean, based on reports from western Europe.
  • Korea: While the visit of Bonapaart broke the guidelines set by the swaeguk ("closed country") policy, which vastly restricted trade to the port of Busan, the Koreans have never seen such type of people, and thus allow them through access nevertheless. This sparked renewed access to the outside world, particularly the peoples the west of the Indian subcontinent, and east of Japan. However, with most funding being on the royal army rather than the navy, the imperial court rules out the possibility of a mission. The caste system is changed under Kim Jimin, with the four-caste system being changed to a six-caste system, with merchants being chae-in, being placed right under the yangban. The upper and lower sangmin are revived, with the upper being a temporary caste for levies to further incentivize conscription. Through the hopae system, the imperial court counts a total of just over ten million Koreans, with virtually all subjects of Korean ethnicity (as well as a few ethnic Manchu and Japanese). Just as Kim Jimin finishes the provincial tour, with all eight provinces being toured, royal Queen consort Kim Sahyun gives birth to a set of twins. The boy who is given the name Do, while the girl is named Hyorin, after the two successful monarchs of the Yi dynasty. The mass-militarization campaign (songun) continues under King Kim Jimin. Industrial complexes continue growth, with the growth of chaebol firms under yangban nobles. Production of gunpowder weaponries (e.g., the Korean cannon, wheel-lock rifles, hwacha), while the metallurgical industries are augmented with the construction of blast-furnaces. Mines spring across the northern countryside to harness northern Korea's vast mineral wealth. Meanwhile, the Manchu–Korean border wall continues to be reinforced, as well as associated fortifications, with thirty thousand troops being mobilized along the border in case of a Manchu or Chinese spillage. The Kim dynasty continues the re-entrenchment Confucian rites and custom, with about two-thirds of Koreans being Conufcian. Confucian values such as scholarship, merit, and artistry are promoted, and several academies and universities are built with many of the yangban elite partaking in education.
  • Sultanate of Bengal: After the official alliance offer is accepted, the Sultan orders 20 ships to be built and given to the Abbasids, as a sign of goodwill. The Sultan also orders a Bengali delegation to accompany the ships to the Abbasids to set up an embassy in Baghdad.
    • Ahom Kingdom: Nothing of note.
    • Kingdom of Burma: The name of the combined Burmese state is changed to the Kingdom of Burma. 5 ships are ordered to be built this year.
  • Cologne: Archbishop Rhoderich reaches out to France and offers to print official French versions of the Essisches Bibel (the Vulgate), at the particularly efficient rate achieved by Stelzner’s printing press and its innovations. He also offers the same thing to Burgundy/Holland with respect to Kappel’s Dutch translation, and publicly invites priests to request the assistance of Essen canonesses or other learned people in order to ensure that the documents are not compromised. Meanwhile, critical religious thinking continues, now in Essen as well. The Council of Cologne appears to still be slowly winding up, and in this process Archbishop Rhoderich is able to raise the idea of implementing seminaries in all Catholic states with His Holiness the Pope whilst he is still present in Cologne. The commissioned report continues to be investigated.
    • Essen: Abbess Meina sends a series of canonesses to France and Holland to assist with any printing of the Vulgate that may be necessary given the other language. Meanwhile, the establishment of the seminary leads to an almost immediate decrease in the number of uninformed priests. And finally, the Order of St Adelphina is established in Essen. The women in Dormagen are happy to set up their abbey according to the texts painstakingly written by Essen canonesses, and both Essen Abbey and the daughter abbey adopt the Rule of St Adelphina, which involves a greater emphasis on discipline and charitable acts of mercy. For example, Adelphinian Canonesses are required to spend less time in contemplation and more time assisting the poor through institutions such as the church schools and infirmary.
  • The Swiss Confederacy continues it's increase in it's Navy. Nothing else of note.
  • Holy Bulgarian Empire: With the Polish coming to council with the Grand Patriarch of Orthodoxy rather than the Pope, this is seen as a great victory, and under this assumption various priests, missionaries, and Partriarchal legates are sent into Poland and Russia under the pretense of converting the thousands of Muslims in the area to the Orthodoxy faith. With their break with Rome apparent, large sermons and gatherings are reported in Bulgaria, Moldavia, Vlach and practically every province in the Empire as well. The Grand Patriarch calls the Tsar of Bulgaria, Tsar of Russia, and King of Poland to Vasiligrad to receive blessings, council, and backing from the Grand Patriatch in exchange for their dedication to the Orthodox church. (Mod for Poland plz). The Polish Catholics are offered a special rite under the new church to accomodate their beliefs. This sees the Bulgarian Tsar Boris answer the call almost immediately as he inhabits the Grand Palace of Vasiligrad bringing with him his family. His Son Aleksander now 15 is revealed to the World after close guarding and tutoring to make up for an initially slow strategic mind and wit. However with the Traditional royal education centered around breaking the individual and moulding the heir into a man capable of leading the country, Aleksander is proven to be not up to the physical tasks but extremely sharp witted, and a genius in terms of strategy and public appeal. However a Large Russian soldier named Vladimir is brought in to physically train Aleksander into an imposing physical specimen having him work out nearly 3 times a day. While in Vasiligrad with the Grand Patriarch, Tsar Boris in an interesting and unprompted turn is Coronated in Vasiligrad as the Holy Bulgarian Emperor. This is shown to be the Patriarchs massive turning against Rome due to their status in the recognition of the Holy Roman Emperor. The spit in the face is even more so as the title is made hereditary to the Ruling family of Bulgaria and is tagged alongside the previous Bulgarian Imperial title, making them inseperable. The Coronation itself sees something else new, as second capital to the empire, with Vasiligrad becomming the most prominent city in the Empire, the city is designated the Summer capital by Tsar Boris who also finally integrated the Principality of Moldavia following a promised marriage between his 12 year old daughter Maria, and the Moldavian Princes 10 year old son Andrei. This integration of Moldavia on top of natural population growth puts the Empires population at 5.86 million.
    • Conciliar Dip: The Ecumenical Council of Cologne's ambassador asks that the Emperor and Patriarch consider agreeing to the proposal in the Ecumenical Council of Cologne, which fulfils the request of the Eastern bishops at the start of the Council by mandating that the Rites are on equal footing, that the Pope cannot interfere in the internal administration of any Rite without the express permission of the relevant Patriarch, and that Cardinals from any Rite will be able to be elected Pope. Given that these were the requests of the Eastern bishops, the ambassador states that refusing to end the unfortunate state of schism and rejoin communion with the rest of Christendom would surely be contrary to the will of God, who wishes that his Church be One.
    • Bulgarian Dip: The Tsar and the Patriarch decline, seeing as support for the Orthodox re-establishment under Bulgaria, Poland, and Russia has made this break with rome rather permanent.
    • The Old King of Poland accepts this arrangement. -scraw
  • Papal States: With the Prussians having agreed to the Council's compromise, the main part of the Council begins to be wrapped up. The Latin bishops continue to debate the discipliny Canons for the Latin Church which will be included as a part of the final Council documents. Cologne's suggestion of mandating seminaries to combat uneducated clergy is heartily welcomed by the other bishops, especially given the move's clear success in Cologne. The Council sends another ambassador to Bulgaria. In other news, Lodewijk Bonapaart's proposal is accepted by Pope Adrian, who orders Ignazio d'Iasso, the Superior General of the Immaculata, to send fifty Immaculata priests and brothers to Giapan. Those who have studied linguistics and the like are recommended. Ignazio creates the group and puts them at Bonapaart's disposal.
  • Kingdom of England and Ireland: More tobacco farmers move to New Gwynedd pushing inland to grow more tobacco, the war with Spain is ignored as it seen as a European struggle. The colony of Avalon continues to survive though no new migrations. The war in Spain halts a lot of academic activity and economic travel which is very frustrating. Williamstown continues to fail to make a profit but they now have a strong fort and good knowledge of the land and the natives.
  • Ngarrindjeri Bakhanate: A charismatic leader, Djarrtjunjun, realizing the opportunity is now, considering that people have returned to their city states, rises to power in his village, conquering several cities, and restores the Ngarrindjeri Bakhanate. He proclaims himself Bakh of the Ngarrindjeri. He launches wars of conquest on other cities.
  • Sultnate of the Ottomans: Suleiman begins to work on modernizing the army and amassing the people to a more Pro-War type people, the slaves from africa are given freedom (seeing I can't make a deal to free them) they are sent to mosques and cities to work on improving things. 1534

A terrible winter devastates the Burgundian colony in Northern Arcadia, killing almost every other person there leaving only 5 starved and almost insane men when the supply and settler ships return .

The Khmer Emperor dies. His son and heir is murdered by a viceroy, plunging them into a civil war.

Lodewijk Bonapaart is preparing resources for his next voyage east. Needing to secure more money, he goes to the Fuggers of Augsburg and asks for a loan which will be paid back by percentages of everything Bonapaart brings back from Giapan.

A group of counts in Poland get together and form the Council of Catholic Counts to ensure mutual defense of Polish Catholics.

The Break between Orthodoxy and Catholicism begins to cause some serious issues for both churches. Many Catholics are angry over the ease with which nearly 1/3rd of europe exited the Pope's authority and hence their own connection to them.

The Orthodoxy suffers from chronic issues of false priests, and those working to make money at the expense of the general populace in Poland, Russia, and Bulgaria, taking money for themselves as they are usually not priests. This seems to just be a problem of the initial startup and lack of communication between the established churches and the lack of confirmation over the legitimacy of the priests from Vasiligrad and the Grand Patriarch.

The Hospitallers, now without a home, turn their eye to the New World. They ask the Pope to support their mission to take their mission across the ocean to the new lands and the spread the word. Spain arranges to sponsor the Knights in search of a home from which to base themselves in the New World.

  • Abbasid Caliphate: Much preparation is made for the Bulgarian embassies, drawing out specific enclaves within the cities of Antioch, Jerusalem, and Alexandria for the Orthodox Church. In Alexandria, the Pope was assured that the Orthodox will not be given any primacy over him in Africa. In Jerusalem, the Armenian, Jewish, and Muslim quarters are negotiated to ensure they will accept the Bulgarian aid to the Orthodox. In Antioch, a great feast is prepared with the finest meals and treasures from across the Muslim world, including spices from Bengal, silk from China, and coffee form the Ottomans. All business in the city is suspended by the Ulema, so that all people may come out and enjoy this festival, including recitations of Persian poetry, the Illiad, and the Arabian Knights. Meanwhile, Musa and Zayn Al-Abbas are finishing up the last annexation of Morocco. All tens of thousands of berbers who were long exiled from the region return to their homeland. Musa sets up a provincial government of the berbers under the control of the African Sultanate, placing native berbers in charge of all public offices. The Catholics of Morocco are allowed to return to Iberia if they so choose, as several thousand of them do. The rest are placed under the jizya tax and remain a minority in Morocco. Gibraltar itself is left as separate from Morocco, and allowed to be kept by either Iberia, Portugal, or France, whoever wants it. The admirals Abu Rass and Ahmad ibn Tulun begin considering the possibility of exploring the Atlantic, now that Morocco has been subjugated.
  • Chinese Empire: Islam continues to spread, and after consulting with his advisors, the Emperor declares that Chinas natural border lies next to India, and that Tibet must join the Empire so that China can have its rightful natural border. An army of 400,000 is sent southwards, and crosses the border into Tibet, commencing the Chinese invasion.  In a great victory , Kucha falls, marking the first battle in what seems to be a long war ahead.
  • Holy Bulgarian Empire: With the major Orthodox sites in the near east now open the Tsar himself goes with the first appointee, the Patriarch of Antioch, who shows up with his entourage in Antioch and takes up residence in what is known as the Bulgar Ward. The church of the Patriarch of Antioch is put under construction here as it is built from the ground up into a major religious site in Syria. The arrival of this and the establishment of this agreement is seen positively by many christians who immediately take up going to church in the Antioch site. The other sites are all expected to begin their colonization by the church within the next few years. The population grows to 5.88 million as an expected population boom comes about due to further integration of the Vlach province. The addition of Moldavia as a province has brought in an influx of Romainians to the south which encounter the mixed Vlach-Bulgar culture for the first time. The Bulgarian army adds the 9th Legion known collectively as "The Holy Legion" due to their creation in the first years of the Holy Empire. The Tsar continues to more obviously style Vasiligrad as the Imperial Capital. This is made apparent as the Tsars Personal Library from Tarnovo is evacuated to Vasiligrad.
  • Papal States: On the Feast of Pentecost, Pope Adrian VI officially closes the Ecumenical Council of Cologne after the final session, in which it promulgates its conciliar decrees. The Council has led to official recognition and sanction of the functional and administrative independence of the Rites, however like many others throughout Europe, the Council fathers, especially Pope Adrian, are angry that the Easterners, led by the conniving Ecumenical Patriarch, remain in their stubborn state of schism, despite the Council achieving everything the Easterners asked for. In response, and to show Christendom that he shares in their anger, Pope Adrian issues a brief Apostolic letter entitled Unam Sanctam, in which he berates the bishops of the Eastern Churches for stubbornly remaining in schism and wilfully committing the sin of dividing God's faithful. Furthermore, he writes that the scandalous stories of false priests running amok in the East show that God Himself is giving clear judgment against the schismatic Patriarch. In the letter's close, however, he reiterates the offer made in the Council that the Easterners are welcome to return to the bosom of the rest of Christendom. On his way back to Rome, the Pope stops in Ravenna, in the North of the States, to invest the Bishop as the new Patriarch of the Latin Rite. A few days later, the new Patriarch issues a Patriarchal Bull requesting the Pope's assistance in administering the Latin Rite "until otherwise provided for by the Patriarch", following Decree 3.1 of the Council on Church Governance. Once back in Rome, Pope Adrian busies himself with catching up on the work that has piled up in his lengthy absence. First and foremost, he has an audience with the Grand Master of the Hospitallers, and immediatel pledges his support, and the support of the entire [Latin] Church in assisting the Order find a new homeland. For now, the Knights and their navy are welcome to remain in the States. A special Sunday collection for the homeless Hospitallers is implemented through Italy, the Iberian Peninsula, and Southern Germany to raise funds for the Knights to find a home in the New World. In related news, the Giapan-bound Immaculata are given an audience with the Pope, who grants them and their mission his Apostolic blessing. The group of fifty priests and brothers (35/15 split) have spent the past year studying Bonapaart's notes on the Giapanois language and customs in preparation for their mission beginning next year. In diplomatic news, Pope Adrian secretly sends an envoy to the Polish Council of Catholic Counts, along with a small chest of gold, to provide both moral, spiritual, and financial aid to the noble, faithful Counts. Later in the year, after hearing rumours of the Easterners' spiritual buildup in the Levant, writes to the Franciscan Custos of the Holy Land, requesting that he increase the Latin presence and visibility in the Holy Places. In unrelated news, theologians and linguists at the University of Bologna, at the request of the Latin Patriarch, begin an official, approved French translation of the Bible using the highest levels of academic textual scholarship. The New Testament should be completed late next year.
    • Abbasid dip: The Ulema would definitely be willing to allow papal envoys to increase Latin pressence in Jerusalem, believing they could do as well to improve the Christian quarter than the Bulgarians can
  • Kingdom of England and Ireland: More tobacco farmers move to New Gwynedd pushing inland to grow more tobacco, the war with Spain is ignored as it seen as a European struggle. • Mayapan: Trade continues the Iberian colonies. Smallpox continues to ravage the country. The Emperor orders all citizens with the disease report to Iberian Aid Camps, or else isolate themselves completely. Discussions about the Mexica and Catholicism continue with the Portugese diplomats.
  • Sultnate of the Ottomans: Suleiman begins to work on modernizing the army and amassing the people to a more Pro-War type people, the slaves from africa are given freedom (seeing I can't make a deal to free them) they are sent to mosques and cities to work on improving things. • Ngarrindjeri Bakhanates: Djarrtjunjun conquers several more cities. He orders diplomatic relations begin with other city states. He orders a new city to be constructed, Attunga. Realizing that revolt from his brutal rule is imminent, he decides to give the conquered cities independence and focus on the development of Attunga. However, he orders road systems to be built to connect all of the cities. Meanwhile, a new development occurs, cave drawings are now drawn on rocks that are on the ground, in the form of pictographs, an early form of script. Population is currently at about 1.7 million.

  • Kingdom of Burgundy: the country continues to be in alert in light of France's aggression. The fortifications of Troyes and Brussels are improved, and the Breton border is further fortified. The navy adds seven new galleons. Territorial expansion of the Massachusetts bay colony is halted in light of recent troubles, but the Guyana colony expands along the coast by 100px.
  • Abbasid Caliphate: After the great celebration and festivities in Antioch, Al-Najm traveled to Tunis and surveyed the African Sultanate. After extensive conversations with Sultan Zayn Al-Abbas, Al-Najm decided to grant Africa it's independence as a vassal once more. At the same time, Al-Najm commissioned a voyage of five caravel-class ships to explore the Atlantic Ocean, commanded by Abu Rass and Ibn Tulun. Ibrahim Al-Nabi, the asthetic preacher, also insisted to join this voyage with his disciples, feeling called by Allah to preach Islam to the natives of the New Island. After many months exploring the Atlantic, Ibn Tulun's voyage arrived to the state of Mayapan (which he called "the Mayyabana Kingdom"). Ibn Tulun proceeded to establish embassedors in the court of Mayapan, as well as a series of Imams and Sufis to preach Islam to the Mayan peopleAs one last military endevor, Al-Najm sends 600 men into Arabia to subjugate the Nejd region.

  • Cherokee Collective: After nearly a century of relative peace and progress, The Dancing Sun faith, under the leadership of Amahy, seizes power, and begins expaning the military in prepation of a large crusade. Amahy was born on the Capital and became a prominent member of a powerful merchant guild, where he became a powerful figure in the Dancing Sun faith. His staunch stance against corruption and his intolerance of those who did not share his high standards made him a well-loved figure in the public eye. He quickly became a member of the Council of Elders, and he was elected by a landslide to the position of Grand Chief after the his prdecessor in 1521. With the rise of Amahy, Dancing Sun gained full control of the key political and economic machinery of the Collective's government, purging all of their opponents from power. With a generation, most important bureaucratic positions were reserved exclusively for cult members. Within two to three generations, many of these key posts became hereditary, entrenching the sect's influence at the expense of creating a culture of nepotism within the Collective's government. In contrast, opponents of the sect including dissidents, heretics and apostates were designated as "the Shamed": entailing a loss of civil liberties, economic assets and stiff barriers to social mobility.
  • Korea: Monarch Kim Jimin orders a diplomatic mission to be sent to the Bao dynasty, seeking to reaffirm relations with China. The envoys state that both Korea and China are now under two competent dynasties, and that it is best that both reaffirm their relationship for the better good of the civilized world. The envoys also recognize the national integrity of Manchuria and respect its independence, as well as the Chinese sovereignty over the formerly Korean islands of Jeju and Sakhalin, as well as the islets of Ulleungdo and Cheondoryeol (otherwise known as the Kurils). However, in exchange, China shall allow the importation of wheat to compensate of the loss of agricultural tracts of land in Manchuria, repatriate Koreans living in Manchuria, as well cease Sino–Korean tensions.
    • Chinese Diplomacy: While wary of Korea, we recognize that a treaty and Koreas promise to respect Manchurias national integrity and borders would be beneficial in the long run. We order our ships to stop raiding Korean shipping, and ask a Korean envoy to Beijing to discuss finalizing these terms in a treaty. Upon the finailization of these terms in a treaty, we will begin shipments of wheat to Korea in return for minerals. Treaty of Beijing

  • Ngarrindjeri Bakhanates: Djarrtjunjun continues the construction of Attunga. He plans to build a massive mound as the city center. Meanwhile, pictographs continue to develop on rocks as a form of writing, and siege warfare has developed. An alliance of several city states laid siege of one city, and the defenders built a wall, and used fire arrows to repulse the invaders. The siege ended with a ceasefire. Djarrtjunjun swears that his heirs will one day conquer all of the tribes and force them into cities. He also swears that a centralized Bakhanate will form and the collapse of his Great Bakhanate will be avenged. To increase his chance of a conquest, he decides to develop a monotheistic religion designed for conquest, but he keeps that a secret. Population is around 1.7 million, rising.
  • The Swiss Confederacy continues it's naval expansion for defense of Lac Leman. Staying out of global politics, the Confederacy has little to say to it's neighbors, so nothing of note other than the previously mentioned expansion.
  • Papal States: The fifty Immaculata missionaries, after a year of studying all they can about Giapan and the Giapanois people and language, embark on their voyage to the islands with Bonapaart. The Immaculata order has continued to grow in numbers, with many drawn to its strict discipline and scholarly interest in both theological and secular knowledge. The Superior of the Mission in the Portuguese colonies meets with the Mayapan to discuss their conversion to Catholicism. He offers to give them several priests as chaplains and doctors, since the Franciscans in the area have been trained in medicine. He also asks that the Mayapan consider expelling the Moslem imams, since, the Superior says, they will try and sow discord with their false religion. Meanwhile in the Holy Land, the Franciscan Custos (Provincial Superior and Catholic Custodian of the Holy Places) enacts His Holiness' plans and begins increasing the visibility of Catholics and the Church in the region, with the friars establishing more charitable things, as well as more public liturgical events. The Custos thanks the Caliph for being so accomodating and munificent towards the Christians in his realm. Back home, the Hospitallers are given the proceeds of the special Sunday collection last year, which raised lots and lots of money [I have no idea what a reasonable estimate of a collection of alms from all Latin Europe would be]. Pope Adrian hopes that they will use the money to quickly establish themselves in a new home in the New World.
  • Chinese Empire: The war continues, the Tibetian cities of Rongma and Amdo fall to Chinese forces. Islam continues to spread. In order to bring stability to south east Asia, the Emperor orders his forces south in order to "brinig the Mandate" to the people of the war torn and currently collapsing Khmer Empire, commencing the Chinese invasion of the former Empire, Muang Xai falls within the first few weeks of the invasion, and from there continue onward to the city of Nam Bak, seizing the city and allowing the Chinese to establish an enclave within the former Khmer Empire.
  • Kingdom of England and Ireland: The colony of Williamstown launches it's first inland expeditions but they reveal little about wealth they are looking for. In New Gwynedd more English people move over to set up their own tobacco plantation, many merchants are willing to pay for the prospective farmers passages and establishment in exchange for shares in their crops of tobacco over a number of years. In Avalon the population remains steady as the people farm the land but as the profit fails to deliver profit and the situation in Wales has resided while in Avalon many farmers to ward off the cold start trading for furs made from beavers with the surviving natives to wear as they keep them warm while drying cod and whale meat is profitable for the collections of farmers and many of the sailors transporting the fish wear fur items such as cloaks as it gets cold out at sea and back in England the sailors are seen with the fur cloaks and some merchants discuss their use. In England, the war or the results of the war between France and Spain still makes travel in Europe hard so Oxford and Cambridge work on themselves while the Regent who is acting for King William who is while of age lives in Germany makes moves to keep a well functioning navy manned by good sailors.
  • France continues exploring the OTL New York Area. Victory over Spain is celebrated.

Gabielangelo is commissioned to sculpt various statues for the Doge of Venice, in which he exemplifies the anatomy of the ideal human body.

Across Europe, people are startled that France is associating itself with Muslims.

Kappel dies. In France, his work is taken over by Dominic Duverger, a well respected priest and theologian, and the man who translated the Bible to French with him.

In Spain, people are really salty that they lost the war.

The Prince General of Sicily dies. The Council, unable to select a foreign candidate who is Catholic enough for them, eventually elevate one of their own to the Prince Generalship.

Chinese involvement in southeast Asia breeds resenment among the local populace.

The Khan in Central Asia reinstates the kurultai as the means of selecting khans. However, he also promulgates that all future khans must be descended from a previous khan, limiting the position to his descendants.

The Spanish build a printing press in one of their New World colonies.

  • Papal States: The fifty Immaculata arrive in Giapan wiith Bonapaart [I assume], and begin immersing themselves in Giapanois culture and improving their language skills. Back home, the Hospitallers continue their stay, and another special Sunday collection this year raises a similarly large sum to last year's. In Rome, Pope Adrian VI approves of the renovations to the Papal palace and other public buildings, and also re-examines Leo X's plans for a renovated St Peter's Basilica. The Pope is startled that France is associating itself with Moslems, and thinks it is a clear symptom of the French being too close to that troublemaker Kappel. The latter's death and his succession by Duverger gives the Curia some food for thought, as the intellectual Father Dominic is at least grudgingly respected by many in Rome. An unofficial Papal envoy sends out feelers to Duverger to see whether he is more willing to work with the rest of the Church than his predecessor. In other news, the Pope and the Latin Patriarch set to work implementing the Latin disciplinary reforms of the Council of Cologne, establishing seminaries and ensuring that a high standard of ecclesiastical discipline is enforced. In the New World, the Superior of the Mission again offers to talk with the Mayapan about their converting to Catholicism.
    • Note: the proper demonym is 'Maya'
    • Maya Dip: The Emperor will accept these missions, under the conditions that healers and doctors accompany them to quell the Smallpox plague
  • Mayapan: Trade continues the Portuguese colonies. Smallpox continues to ravage the country. The Emperor orders all citizens with the disease report to Aid Camps, or else isolate themselves completely. Mayapan agrees to ally with Portugal against the Mexica. Catholic missions are accepted into the country, mostly as doctors for the Smallpox plague.
  • Sultanate of the Ottomans: Suleiman begins to work on modernizing the army and amassing the people to a more Pro-War type people, the slaves from africa are given freedom (seeing I can't make a deal to free them) they are sent to mosques and cities to work on improving things. Suleiman is seen as a strong man as he begins to work on the nation's military might. The population begins to grow mostly around the city of Anakar and Izhimr. Suleiman begins to work on creating all black janasir units (due to them being slaves). Suleiman begins to work on a mixed military.Armenian Christians are left alone and won't pay jizya until 3 years. areas are build to open trade, while Amernians are put in office job in Armenian areas. • Norway: The exploration of Arcadia continues with the majority of the eastern seaboard being mapped. The Kappelian faith continues to grow with it accompanying 40% of norway's Christians. Thrall trade of the Laps and Finns continues along with persecution however some propaganda is spread stating they could find a new home safe from persecution in arcadia. Within Oldenburg ship movements out of the ports grant money into the banks. Increased pressure on the surrounding states continues, We offer the small state of the Bishopric of Minden vassalage under Oldenburg Mod Response. • Ngarrindjeri Bakhanates: Population rises to 1.8 million. The concept of cities speeds throughout Southern Australia, creating a unique civilization. The Bakhanates create a unique pictograph script that they write on rocks (it was developed from the cave art). Attunga continues to grow, and the mounds are being constructed. Meanwhile, Iron is in high demand, being used for spears and pots. Djarrjunjun orders a new palace (a primitive on still) be constructed for his local Bakhanate. The palace shall rest on the giant mound.
  • Abbasid Caliphate: After the successful explorations in Arabia and the Atlantic Ocean, Al-Najm the Great retired to Damascus. By this time, the philosophy of Mu'tazila has become totally dominant among the Ulema. At this point, however, it began to fracture into conservative and liberal factions. The right side believes that Sunni Islam is the only source of knowledge and wisdom in the world, while the left side, influenced from the Gurkani, believes that some wisdom can be gained from other religions of Shia, Christianity, and Judaism, although salvation only comes from the Quran. On great philosopher that appeared at this time was Ismail ibn Yakub, an immigrant from the Ottoman Empire, and the first to introduce Humanism as a philosophy in Islam. Along with humanist literature, the Caliphate begins producing works of poetry similar to those from western Europe. Al-Najm encourages literature in the Caliphate, and introduces the first printing press in the Middle East. Among the works commissioned by Al-Najm is a chronicle of the history of the Abbasids, going all the way back to Al-Saffah in 750 AD. However, the years from 1448-1525 are skipped over entirely, and the history conflates Al-Najm I as the same as Al-Najm II.
  • Portugal: King Manuel celebrates the Portuguese victory in the war against Spain. While France calls it the Franco-Iberian War, Portugal calls it the Vingança, or vengeance. The Spanish atrocities committed upon Portugal are not yet considered to have been repaid, though Portugal does take this time to promote itself as a stronger force than Iberia. In the war, Portugal took as far as Seville and, due to the Caliphate's generous offer, claims Gibraltar as its own. Several bishops in Portugal condemn working with Muslims, though others believe that religion must not be a disqualifier in diplomacy, especially in these modern times. Several ships are constructed this year and fitted with cannons. In economic news, the amount of gold flowing into Portuguese lands is unprecedented. With Gibraltar under Portuguese control, the nation becomes a haven of trade. The sale of wood from Iberia is banned in Portugal, bringing the nation closer to the ideology of mercantilism. Portugal hires several ships to protect its trade routes, especially on the Iberian side of Gibraltar. In colonial news, Portugal continues to send missionaries to Mayapan. King Manuel offers the nation a spot as a colony of Portugal. In his letter, he states, "To be a colony of Europe is to have power. And to have power, one shall be Portuguese." Portugal begins to sail several naval ships to its colonies in preparation for its next war: the war against the Mexica Triple Alliance.
    • Mayan Dip: Mayapan agrees to support Portugal in the war against the Mexica, but declines the offer to join the Portuguese Empire
  • Cologne: Archbishop Rhoderich, recently having come out of a low patch of health, thanks all the delegates of the Council of Cologne and thanks His Holiness for writing up the Decrees and Canons of the Ecumenical Council of Cologne. Several Kolsch canons and monks get to work translating these Decrees and Canons into the other current practising Catholic languages: English, French and German. Archbishop Rhoderich seeks a delegate from England, France and Brandenburg to assist with this process and invites the aforementioned delegations to the University of Cologne. Further, Archbishop Rhoderich is honoured to become the “Patriarch” of the Imperial Synod over the HRE but is all the same concerned that this elevates him too far above his people. Accordingly, he makes more of an effort later in his term of office to spend time preaching to people on the streets. Given his generally poor health, the people begin to be inspired by his fortitude and perseverance in walking among the less fortunate. Furthermore, given the funds that have continued to slowly trickle in from the printing press for all these years, Archbishop Rhoderich gets to work on improving the main hospitals of Cologne, Westphalen and Kolschberg.
    • Essen: Abbess Meina, having attended the 1535 Imperial Diet, continues to advocate on behalf of Cologne given Archbishop Rhoderich’s poor health. The commissioned report is taken to the Diet. The new Order of St Adelphina, or Adelphinian Canonesses for short, has become properly established in Dormagen and young women especially have reacted to this with a kind of awe – one abbey, founded in new thought by one saintly woman, can found its own Order? This brings great hope to the people of Essen, whose concerns are shared by the canonesses at Essen Abbey. The Order extends to nuns, rather than simply canonesses regular and secular canonesses, and this year a small group of peasant women take inspiration from the canonesses in Dormagen to found another small daughter abbey (of nuns) in Neuss. Prioress Hildegard III of Essen, ruling in Abbess Meina's stead, is careful to send several canonesses to this daughter abbey to assess the differences between canonesses and nuns in practice.
    • English Dip: Sends people to help with whatever it is your asking.
  • Kingdom of England and Ireland: Many are surprised that France is working with Muslims but it is ignored especially as France is stronger now that ever. In New Gwynedd more people move to grow tobacco spurring on a growing industry although the demand for tobacco is greater than the available workers. In Avalon the colony remains stagnant and ineffective although it is largely self- sufficient. Williamstown continues to fail to make a profit and so the merchants who set up the colony upon the advice of the regent offer to sell the colony and all those living there to Brandenburg as the fort is well constructed and established while those living there know the land well and largely are self- sufficient. The navy is kept at a strong 300 ships in port while the army is at 25,000 with each regiment commanded by a marshal. Works is kept on maintaining the roads constructed previously.
  • Prussia-Luxembourg: Freidrich continues to actively support the king of Bohemia and the Pro-Prussian faction supplying them with arms, and money to maintain power. Freidrich begins looking to the Princes to optimize the management and administration of the Empire and he proposes that a Diet be called upon. Prussia begins to place influence on the Electorate of Saxony which it helped secure the independence of during the second war of the lions. Freidrich Formally calls the Imperial Diet of 1535 to order to discuss a comprehensive restructuring of the Imperial Administration (trying out one of the imperial reforms on the page, all HRE Players please look into it and Mods please respond for npc nations when the time comes.) Freidrich continues to consolidate his centralization of power into the monarchy having successfully submitted most of the nobility to his control, and having stripped them of most of their military autonomy by integrating them into the Royal Army. He continues to promote the development of a stronger army and continues to expand the usage of firearms in his forces. The arms industry in the domains of the crown continue to grow. Major focus is placed on Pholosophy, chemistry, engineering, theology, mathematics, biology, and astronomy. Freidrich takes an interest in the newly founded english colony in otl Buenos Aires. Holsteinès port starts to undergo an upgrade as it is designated to become Prussia's second largest port and potentially largest trading hub. In Holstein the English shipwrights are put to work with building a couple of capital ships for the small prussian Navy, aswell as instructing Prussian shipbuilders on how to make more efficient and sea worthy ships.Freidrich interested in the Colony of England agrees to the Purchase.
  • Chinese Empire: The war continues, the Tibetian cities of Pubaozhen and Lhasa fall to Chinese forces, causing much pride as the enemy capitol is taken, it will still take at least a year for Chinese forces to stamp out resistance in the former nation however. Islam continues to spread. Muang Kham falls, and soon after so does Vang Vieng, expanding the region under Chinese control, the Emperor places his first born on the throne of a Chinese vassal state to be called Siam, giving him the land currently under Chinese occupation and allowing the start of a local government, lessening the burden on China.

  • Kingdom of Burgundy: with the population of Bilzen in the Massachusetts bay colony (OTL Boston) growing once again, the Massachusetts Bay Company decides to establish a redundant colony in the area, so their complete investment wouldn't be lost in a similar event. It's decided to establish it in an area mapped some twenty years prior, what Burgundy calls Nieuw Amsterdam. A fort is built on the southern end of what is named Manhattan island, manned by some 150 of the Burgundian West India Company's growing "Colonial Guard" and equipped with nine 10-pound cannons for defense. A similar garrison is slated for Bilzen. The Burgundian East India Company continues profiting from its enterprises in the East, with its share of East Indies trade growing by the year. Soon the EIC starts hiring locals in Sumatra, Java, and Borneo to help with security and manning crews of trading vessels.

  • Abbasid Caliphate: The Ulema continue to be more divided on theological matters. Ibn Yakub and his Humanist faction side heavily with the liberals, suggesting that the ultimate duty of the House of Islam is in the interest of the people. The printing press, first used in Baghdad and Cairo, also brings a point of contention. While most scholars agreed to use the press to publish works of Aristotle and Plato, some also suggested using it to mass-produce the Qur'an as well, which was strongly opposed by the conservatives in the Ulema. Still, the use of the press so far already spreads the literature of the House of Wisdom far and wide, including the chronicle made by Al-Najm last year. Antiquarianism rises in popularity as many nobels collect their own curiosities comparable to the Three Treasures of Egypt. Al-Najm decides to reconstruct the Canal of the Pharoahs, connecting the Nile to the Red Sea. Of course, such a monumental undertaking will require many years to build, more than the lifetime of the Caliph, but he starts the construction this year (1/18). Among various works of Humanist philosophy this year is the book Lamakan (no place) by Ibn Yakub, being the first work of fiction to take place in the New World (ATL version of Utopia).

  • Abbasid Caliphate: Economy continues to grow immensely, now the Caliphate acts as a conduit between Western and Eastern Europe to India and China, with Swahili and Oman in between. The Canal of the Pharaohs continues to be constructed (turn 2/18). As the printing press spreads new ideas around from the House of Wisdom, many more people as far as Libya are being exposed to the various sects of Islam and its philosophy. In the Ulema, however, the conservative faction pushes for more dominence, worried the nation could be corrupted with the free distribution of printing and the new banking system. Fearing he might become a target, Ibn Ishaq leaves Damascus and starts a tour of various universities, giving lectures on Humanist philosophy. In Baghdad, people begin performing plays for the first time in the Middle East, being taught from traveling street perfomers from Europe. The oldest play on record from Baghdad is an anonymous drama called Al-Najm Al-Mashriq, dramatizing the heroic acts of Al-Najm in destroying the Gurkani Sultanate. As antiquarianism grows among the nobility of the Caliphate, many look back in more reverence at the art and majesty of those older empires, as revealed in conteporaty poetry.

A number of Spanish nobles decide to pool their resources to leave Portuguese controlled Iberia for the New World. Led by the former Infante Francisco. After receiving backing from various connections across the continent, they contract Eduard van Kronk, the explorer who once served England, to ferry them to the New World and be their line of contact to Europe. This independent expediture, due to the sheer amount of wealth supporting it, succeeds, and they set sail for the New World.

A Sicilian ship is harrassed by a Muslim ship while passing through the Strait of Messina. The crews of both ships attempt to board the other ship and several men die.

Lodewijk Bonapaart, believing the mission in Giapan is successful and will survive without him, decides to use the great wealth he has amassed in his travels to sail back to Europe with his new half-Giapanois family. He wants to pursue his dream of finding the City of Gold.

With the transfer of power in part of Spanish Hispaniola, it comes to light that the Spanish were treating the natives, those that survived, quite terribly. This is seen as the last straw among the conservatives in the Ulema, and they began to plot how they could get Ibn Yakub framed for some crime. Meanwhile, one scholar in the Ulema proposes to condemn all forms of divination through astrology, in light of recent studies from Baghdad that the true study of the stars is through astronomy. After begining an investigation, questioning other priests who have visited the colonies and plantations in the New World, Pope Adrian and his Curia grows distressed at the ever-more verifiable reports of the sub-human treatment of the natives by the colonists. In response, Pope Adrian, assisted by the best theological minds of Rome and Bologna, drafts a Papal Encyclical Letter, to be distributed throughout Europe and especially through the New World. The document is promulgated on the last Sunday before Advent, and is entitled Dilexit Deus. The Encyclical declares the natives of the New World "and all other people who may later be discovered by Christians" to be true Men, with souls, and threatens with excommunication those who enslave them, take their property, or mistreat them in any way inconsistent with their dignity as Human beings created in imago Dei; even if they are not yet Christians. A copy is sent to the Hospitallers in New Rhodes, with a cover letter requesting the Grand Master to enforce observance of the document if he can. In related news, the expedition of Infante Francisco is given a blessing and several Spanish priests are sent to accompany them.
