The Ming Dynasty still rules over the vast lands of China. On the other side of the world, the Hundred Years War continues between England and France. Europe is still stuck in the old ways of feudalism and chivalry while the notions of a New World are considered figments of imagination.

We welcome you to the long awaited fourth expansion of that immortal series. Welcome to Principia Moderni IV! Starting in 1400 AD, this is the dawn of the modern world and the tail end of the Middle Ages. The Renaissance is just kicking off in Europe, while the nations in the western side of the continent are locked in the last gasp of the Hundred Years War. The Muslim world is still reeling from the invasions of Turks and Mongols, with the Caliphate resting in the collapsing Mamluk Egypt and the Ottomans on the rise in Anatolia. Make it count.

The first game was the most successful on the wiki, leading all the way to the modern day with mostly plausible posts and little controversy. The second game reached almost to the modern day, but failed due to a plethora of ASB events and moderator bias. The third game was much more worthy of the first, almost running into implausibility but climbing back into a shining glory by the end. Riding on the latest reforms of map games since the end of PMIII, this is the most logical next step in that evolution. Remember above all other rules — have fun.

Plausibility Strikes

Three strikes and you're out! Each strike resets after 30 years of the most recent strike.

  • Scar - I (1629)

Moderator Strikes

These are strikes for moderators and how they moderate. The same three strikes rules apply. If a moderator is banned from moderating, however, they can still play as their nation. Mod strikes can be delivered in one of three ways:

  1. If a sufficient number of players (more than half of all players voting) vote to give a moderator a strike.
  2. If I, Scraw, give them a strike.
  3. If a majority of all mods (ie more than half of the total number of mods, excluding that moderator) vote to give a moderator a strike.

Moderators can be given strikes for the following reasons:

  1. Exhibiting bias that would benefit the nation they are playing.
  2. Exhibiting bias that would negatively affect a player they have a personal dispute with.
  3. Making a ruling that contradicts a proven fact from OTL or an established fact from earlier in the game.
  4. Overruling a decision of a majority of moderators.

The Game

1650

Piracy grows in the North Atlantic among defected French and Iberian ships.

Pietism spreads across Italy, but the priests and friars who lead it take no responsibility for the actions of extremists, who are not all clerical.

Smaller denominations of Christianity mixing Latin and Northern rites appear in Oldenburg and Hansa.

The plague dies down in Scandinavia. However, an outbreak of plague strikes New Essex in Arcadia.

In response to the proclamations of Burgundy, the Duke of Orleans suggests the King of France recreates the Estates General.

The Knights Hospitallar agrees to the aid from Essen. The Seminole tribe in Arcadia is converted to Christianity.

In Eastern France, Burgundy and the Low Countries the numbers of troops going along the area's road system causes a general collapse in the supply lines causing tens of thousands to flee back to their respective countries and leaving nearly 150,000 French troops and 75,000 Burgundian (coalition) troops trapped in the low countries. The popularity of downsizing from mass armies becomes much more prominent as it extend the war another year.

In the Andes, the Iberian troops isolated by the mountains are thrown out by French loyalists who marshall a force of 30,000 consisting of settlers, natives etc etc under the French colonial general Marquis de Potosia

  • Sinkyone: In Arqortoqe the first farms put up with tomatoes and grasses (mais) as their crop. There are also the first domesticated Elks that help the farmers to plow their grounds. We send because of the farming technology we got some boats up north in OTL Gold beach Oregon. We settle there the first Athabaskan people who use basic farming but mostly hunting to get their food. Also Ask Wailiki, Matolle and Coast Yuki(MOD RESPONSE)We also Ask the Leader of Wiyot if Tuketwa could marry his daughter Eyota thus forming a personal union between the two. Also, Tuketwa demands with his military power that the chief could pick out his succesor and not to be elected so that they can choose the best warrior but he notes if no family is in favour of the chosen successor that the election would then happen anyway.
    • The Wiyot leader would prefer if his daughter married Tuketwa's son.
    • Tuketwa ask if the wiyot leader can let his daughter marry his younger teen brother Diltwa.
    • The Wiyot leader accepts
  • Great Iberia: Reports of Francisco Alves' expeditions finally reach mainland Iberia. He led a conquest of the natives from OTL Nayarit to Sinaloa who had previously resisted conquest, committing violent acts against their people, before wandering off in search of a "city of gold". After being assumed dead, he unexpectedly reappears in Maiam this year, leading a second expedition (albeit a much smaller one) to Sinaloa. He founds the cities of São Miguel (near OTL Culiacán) and Compostela. In accordance with King John's wishes, the new territories are given the name "Kingdom of Nova Galiza". Iberia agrees to trade with Swahili through Mozambique Island. Portuguese dominion is extended to the southern part of Fernando Pó from the existing settlements on the east and west sides (OTL Luba and Riaba). Colonists begin arriving and planting sugarcane crops. In Europe, the army of 35,000 captures Pamplona, occupying the Navarra region, and marches north to the town of Hendaye, which is garrisoned by 2500 French troops. The blockade of France continues.
  • Benin: With the passing of the late Oba Adolo, his firstborn son, Ogbebo, is crowned as Oba this year. Ever since he was young boy, Ogbebo had never been concerned with the the duties of a warrior as his father had wished, but rather spent his time reading about tales depicting the rise of Benin in great detail. As Ogbebo ascended to the throne, the exploits of Oba Ewuare, who lived over two centuries before, would serve as a model to which Ogbebo would follow faithfully. Opening his reign, Oba Ogbebo moves the capital and the Uzama, the imperial legislature to Bapure, formerly a provincial capital from the earliest days of the empire which had fallen into ruin over the years. With the construction of the new capital underway, Oba Ogbebo sends several envoys across the Sahara to establish diplomatic connections with the Rashidun, in an effort to find cultural patrons and political allies.
    • Iberian Diplomacy: A Portuguese envoy visits the Beninese court and requests that Benin recognize the Iberian Crown's authority over the island of Fernando Pó (Bioko).
      • Bini Diplomacy: As a fierce pacifist, Oba Ogbebo allows the strange white man to claim dominion over the worthless island.
    • Rashidun Fip: The trans-Saharan caravan route sends the diplomat Ubaid Ibn Abbas to the Benin court, giving gifts of gold and copies of Greek philosophy as a token of improved relationship.
  • Papal States: With Belkan troops pouring into Venice, the Papal Army is mobilised at the Papal-Venetian border. Back home, two delayed events take place. Firstly, the Prefect for the Missions presents his report and recommendations to the Pope. The missions are generally fairly successful and their orthodoxy is good. Special praise is reserved for the Adelphinian Canonesses, who have made tremendous strides for a still-young Order; especially one made up largely of women! However, sometimes the missionary orders conflict with each other, sometimes they conflict with the diocesan authorities, and sometimes they have different ideas about to what extent local cultures and beliefs can be incorporated into Catholicism licitly. It is therefore recommended that regional Legatine Courts be established with the authority to arbitrate in those disputes. The Pope agrees to this proposal, remembering the effectiveness of the Courts of Discipline of the Adelphinian Reforms in his native land. Secondly, Fritz Wolfenburg's opera is finally given its premier (his bishop-patron had died before the initial premier, so he had had to find a new one). It receives rave reviews and is an instant success, catapulting Wolfenburg to a household name. At a celebration party, Wolfenburg composes another ditty taking aim at the Russians, its refrain is "The only went to the Pacific/to make up for their tiny ----". It too, is a runaway success. Back home the spread of the 'Pietist movement' continues, and the Pope is quite pleased that people are starting to properly accept sexual teachings. He is also pleased that those clerics who have taken it up have distanced themselves from the brothel-burnings. The Pope releases his planned encyclical on sexual morality, which he entitles Sancta Connubii (on Holy Marriage). In it, Zachary repeats the Church's condemnation of adultery, fornication, abortion, infanticide, prostitution, sodomy, and bestiality as being contrary to natural and divine law, however he includes an invitation to those living in sin to accept God's great love through the Sacrament of Confession. Despite his condemntation of prostitution, the Pope writes that brothels should not be destroyed, nor prostitutes persecuted, as this would make their conversion of life less likely. The encyclical also has a few paragraphs on marriage and the benefits of sex within it, as both a means of bringing forth children, and of increasing the affection between spouses. The Secretary for Foreign Relations asks Scandinavia for a response, reiterating his openness to a counter-offer and the Pope's desire to return Papal-Scandinavian relations to normal. Hearing about the mixed Latin-Northern groups in the North of Germany, Pope Zachary asks the Archbishop of Cologne, as Patriarch of the Church in the HRE, to investigate these groups, and see how they do (or can) within the general German Church. The Adelphinian Order is asked if they would like any financial assistance in their new administrative role in Hospitaller lands in the New World. Missions in Japan, Korea-China, the New World, and Southern Africa continue.
    • Scandinavian Dip: We categorically refuse these terms as we see them as unfair and giving too much power to Rome. We withdraw the diplomat, seeing the unfair treatment of the Roman Archbishop.
    • Papal Dip: I'm letting you select the Catholic bishop. What terms would you agree to? Or are you simply intent on destroying relations and increasing antagonism?
  • Scandinavian Empire: Development happens around the capital Riksdale, as well as in Oslo, Stockholm, Copenhagen, Oldenburg and Visby. Stockholm is put in quarantine, as the plague breaks out in the city. The ports of Vindov and Libov (Windau and Libau) in Couronia are being promoted. Colonial endeavours around Olafsdale (Labrador settlements) and New Blekinge (Hudson Bay settlements) continue. We also continue colonizing the Island of New Gotland and the coast north of it, as we see it as good farmland, being named Haraldsdale. The Hebrides are continued to be colonized by Norsemen, to integrate the Sudreyar into the fold. Settlers are sent into the far north of Finland and Lapland, to claim the country for the Norsemen. Protestant preachers are sent to Oldenburg and the Hebrides and Catholic power is undermined in the region, and money is sent to the Protestant groups within the Hansa. King Harald dies honourably on the field of battle in France. Kettil is raised to King and immediately withdraws ALL SUPPORT from the war, due to this war leading his father into the folly.
  • Great Union of Korea and China: With the annexation of China under a dualistic union, the Emperor Kim Seothae abolishes the Chinese imperial court, instead instating the reformed Korean state-council as the national legislature. Through instituting a system of appointment for higher-ranking government positions, he cements his royal authority and effectively culls the bureaucracy of any oppositional elements. Furthermore, he implements the six-rank Korean caste system (in order of importance; bureaucrats, professionals, merchants, lower-rank military personnel, peasantry and tenant farmers), phasing out the simpler traditional four-caste system that had been used in China. With the war effort bringing plight and destitution to affected communities, packages of surplus rice and other grains are freely distributed, makeshift homes are provided, whilst a limited allowance is provided to purchase other basic necessities. With the utilization of extensive bullion reserves originally allocated to the war effort, a five-year reconstruction campaign is aggressively pursued to restore the former grandeur condition of the states' infrastructure. With Tali being crushed and its respective Hui Muslim royalty being dethroned and subsequently executed, the Emperor and his advisors pay attention to reinstalling and consolidating the once extensive tributary system. Therefor, emissaries are sent to Bhutan, Shan, Siam, Pegu, Dai Viet, and Champa demanding the immediate establishment of yearly tributary missions (MOD RESPONSE).
    • Yakutia: With the nascent state being vigorously settled, many relocated Yakut commoners are told to live an agrarian sedentary lifestyle and renounce their lives are semi-nomadic herders. A maritime city is established, being named Kun (after the Yakut word referring to the "sun"). The Sakhan Church of the East moves their main base of operations to mentioned settlement. The new currency, the Sakhan mun, is implemented and used to remonetize the volatile economy.
    • All of the nations except Siam agree. ~Wolves
  • Kingdom of Burgundy: with the collapse of logistics for both the French and the Allies, Graaf Lasser pulls the Allied army back into the Netherlands. Reforming the bands from last year, Lasser disperses them in a line north of Brussels, recognizing that smaller groups are easier to live off the land, and be easier on that land. As logistics precludes campaigning on both sides, he sets about reorganizing the army on the Belkan model. Pikes are redesignated secondary weapons after losing so many trained pikemen in the logistical collapse, and many regiments are remolded to favor massed musket fire after its found its much easier to train a musketeer than a pikeman, and thus able to replace losses faster. Throughout the year, while the main army reorganizes itself, cavalry raids continue to attempt to play hell on the supply situation for the French army, seizing supplies, and burning what it can't carry. With the French force already unable to feed itself, its expected that the lack of supplies will force it to fall back. Meanwhile, raiders continue to play havoc on enemy shipping, with control of the seas establishes post-Dunkirk, further depriving France of overseas income. At the same time, a group of 1000 European mercenaries hired by Burgundy seize several enemy possessions in the Tainoan Sea, including the Philippines, Haiti and French Puerto Rico.
  • France: With desertion rates are rising massively we pull back out of Brussels declare the Dutch Republic and sign the Treaty of Brussels with them and pull back an 70,000 strong forces to Niuewport leaving 5000 in Brussels while the remaining 70,000 soldiers go to saint- Quentin and dig in. The desertions are acknowleged as being a very dire issue which is why we are pulling back to our own lands where supplies are better and people are more motivated to fight for their own lands. 15,000 men are sent to reinforce the army in Provence which moves back to Toloun and digs in to allow a Iberian attack. Johnas de witt the man mentioned in the treaty is the most popular merchant we could find in Brussels. New Valois and France artique are resiezed. More to come.
  • Tsardom of Belka: Having spent all of the last year preparing the offensive into Venice, the Tsar puts his son Constantine in the command spot next to the general sent to command the forces. This is for him to gain practical combat experience with Belkas new army which has been trained to professional efficiency. The Belkan troops move on Venice and meet the Venetian army roughly at Acquelia expecting to wipe them out. The Navy which as reformed into the Home fleet and the Mediterrenean fleet consisting of 150 ships per fleet are organized and put to sea. A squadron of nearly 45 ships with ten of those being 98 gunships of the line, blockade the Adriatic beginning to cut Venice off and ready to send more ships at a moments notice from nearby in Ragusa. However with the push through past Acqueilia the first stage of the battle of venice forces the Venetian army back into their city keeping the city on the ropes and under a siege. it's estimated only 25,000 Venetian troops remain in the city (due to casualties sustained in battle) and Belka begins planning the draw up of Peace terms as a less trained army labelled at a strength of 25,000 is delivered into the region which marches on the rest of Venetian controlled northern italy manning the borders. It is at this moment the Papal diplomacy is responded too with a simple brush off telling the Papal states to remain outside of Belka's affairs and that north italy will be restored to its more natural state. The Tsar also heavily begins pressuring the Venetians to capitulate as this is just a trade war and Venice being restored to its previous state would be much more viable for the region (mod plz)
    • Papal Dip: The ambassador emphases that we do not care about Northern Italy, but rather the random Southern coast that Venice stole from us through vile coercion.
  • English Arcadia: The continuing influx of immigrants from Europe keeps the population skyrocketing, leaving our population at 680,000. Most of this comes via immigration from England, But French, Germans and even Italians are also prevalent. Wanting to maintain these growth rates over time, Cornelius Wilmington starts several programs to maintain these high rates of immigration. The first is a flat sum of three pounds - about 1/4 of an average annual salary given to each family that immigrates to Arcadia. In addition, any family that move can either receive a plot of land, or another three pounds if they prefer to live in the city. In order to support these programs and population influx, our governor Cornelius Wilmington continues to expand inland at a rapid pace, notably expanding into OTL north Florida, now claiming much of the Floridian panhandle and expanding down the Floridian coast. Expansion also occurs in the north, using the Delaware river as the eastern border, to expand into OTL Pennsylvania. In addition, the frontier continues to march west, now at a faster pace. The newly occupied land is mostly reserved for agriculture, but several cities continue to grow along the coast, notably New Essex (On the east shore of Virginia), New Rome (OTL Charleston), and York (OTL Dover). As the population continues to rapidly expand, and English permission secured Wilmington again gathers representatives from around the colony to begin splitting it into smaller governorates. With war in full swing in Europe, we decide to join by invading Burgundian Arcadia. With Bilzen and New Amsterdam under our effective control, Wilmington unites his two armies to finish off the remaining 4000 Burgundian troops, now stuck between Bilzen and New Amsterdam. After the defeat of the Burgundian Army, Wilmington begins to negotiate with the the Burgundians on what parts of the colony he might claim.
  • Kingdom of England, Ireland and Scotland: Seeing the massive desertions in France as supply chains collapse this is looked upon with dismay but the declaration of the dutch republic is considered good news.. With the war going well in Arcadia this is appreciated but there is still concern well aware the war is in it's early. There is little change from the previous year with the same forces holding the same positions in England while forces assigned to fighting Arcadia do so under the command of the Governor of the Arcadian colonies. Privateers continue to hit belligerent shipping in the English channel and north sea but avoiding those such as Scandinavia who are not at war with them. England has 5.3 million people, Wales has 0.4 million Ireland has 1.6 m to million people and Scotland one million people. Fleet losses continue to be replaced but there is a focus now on ships of the line seeing large fleets as obsolete so less ships are built but they are much bigger and more combat capable. Seeing fighting Europe and the ineffectiveness of large scale mass feudal levy attacks are a bad idea and so the first reorganisation of home forces is started which makes up around 45,000 troops and efforts are made to re- equip them mainly with muskets reducing the use of pike in accordance with a swinging tide in Europe. This process is expected to take some years. The treaty of Brussels is acknodlged and signed while the we are still ready to negoaite with the current Burgundian king and regime.
  • Russia: We continue to expand 40 px into Siberia. The Western Navy work ends. More canon foundries are built in Tsaritsyn and Rurikgrad. The five Amur Schooners set said and end up off the river by Haedo Island. They sail north and dock in Markovgrad on the Vladimir River (OTL Okhota River). Capitan Vyatcheslav Poleshchuk calls the wide open sea the Sea of Russkiy Vostok (Russian Orient). Already by next year, Captain Poleschcuk plans for a mapping expedition of the coastline. In the North of the Tsardom, a mapping expedition gets off coarse when looking for Nenetsia Island and lands upon the bottom of a large Island. After some mapping he discovers a second northern island. The captain calls these the Crescent Islands (OTL Sverhney Islands). More gun production sites are set up in Moscow, Novgorod, and many Siberian cities. With much colonization fo Siberia, a sudden shortage of fur based products. Leads to large hunt for many otters and other little furry critters. Farming continues in the southern Siberians lands with many new lands on the border are churned up for substinance farming mainly. [OCC but Cal shouldn't you stat directing insults at Magrahb since they are your religious rivals, and are much much closer]
    • Papal OOC: Porque no los dos amirite?
  • Bengal Sultanate: The Bengals continued to invade and attack Burma with three large scale attacks these last iwo years with each attack including a force of at least 100,000 men. This lead to the surrender of Burma as the government did not want more destruction and more deaths from the war. In Bengal, people celebrated victory over Burma and a treaty will be held early next year. But for people in Burma, this is a new beginning for the people who survived. The Sultan pledged to support the survivors of the war in Burma and Ahom. Small Scale medical centers have already been built in the region to support the injured and sick. Food will also be provided as Bengal does contain a surplus of crops that usually never make it to a household for consumption so this is a win-win situation. The Sultan has scheduled a visit in the region to give a speech of hope and future prosperity for the people who are now under Bengali rule. A new age for Bengal begins.A sort of proto-newspaper company has been established in the nation to deliver local news. Also, an immigration shipping company had been established last year and will begin transporting immigrants from ships to and from Bengal. Also, slavery has become strictly prohibited in the nation as well. While soldiers return home from the war an explosion in population has begun with pregnancy rates nearly doubled. The population has reached 27.16 million people. Military recruits total up to 12,000 for the year. Coastal marketplaces grow. The PTS Teavana has set sail to the Mediterranean with more than 400 people on board. The University has completed construction and scientific centers have grown. An education act has been established in which every child must get an education and is compulsory for the most part. Homeschooling is permitted as well. Job's have continued to rise as well with the poverty rate depleting. The nation begins a new era in post-war time.
  • Maiam: The government of Maiam continues to petition Iberia to merge Mecicipi into one nation with Maiam to increase safety and security in light of recent wars. Small rebellions break out as citizens believe that Iberia is dragging them into wars that they do not wish to be a part of. Chocolate exports continue, mostly to European nations including England and Iberia. Maiam's population now reflects about half native Mayan and Mexican and half European, with a large mixed-race population. Expansion continues along the northern and southern borders, focusing on the coast. Trade continues up from Amazonia and down from Mecicipi, and these trade routes are upkept. Maiam, seeking to become more self-reliant, begins building it's own navy and armories.
  • Swahili: We continue our agriculture policies. The royal guards continue convincing contracted servants. Areas interior to Mobassa and Malindi is colonized. We also send out conquistadors to expand northwards into more northern Somalia. We continue development of Madagascar. With the war in Europe, the Sultan encourages trade to Europe and the Caliphate. As a result, we gained much revenue and also significant technological pieces and books that were sold by Europeans. The colony in Orungu also receives a boon from the trade, and we station 1000 guards at the colony. Akida crossed the Gibraltar and arrives at France, the Papal States, Veneto and Naples. Warships approach the Iberian settlement in Mozambique Island.
    • Swahili Dip to Iberia: We are willing to allow the fort as part of a trade outpost in return for gold and technological and military cooperation. Extraterritoriality will not be given to those who commit crimes in Swahili.
    • Swahili Dip to France: We propose a trade agreement.
    • Swahili Dip to the Papal States: We propose a trade agreement
    • Swahili Dip to Veneto : We propose a trade agreement
    • Swahili Dip to Naples: We propose a trade agreement

  • Great Union of Korea and China: Public Muslim proselytizing is prohibited, and many Hui are encouraged to renounce Islam. The government patronizes Confucianism as the national philosophy, however, the Emperor maintains a heterodox stance; allowing the proliferation of new branches offering new reinterpretations of Confucius' teachings. With the utilization of extensive funds originally allocated to the war effort, a five-year reconstruction campaign is aggressively pursued to restore China's formerly grandeur state. To stimulate economic recovery, paid wages are heightened, allowing households to purchase more basic necessities (with subsidized prices) as well as to indulge in luxury consumption, eventually resulting in a positive-feedback loop. To keep the national treasury afloat midst the financial demands of recovery, corvée labour is banned, requiring taxes to be paid in a monetary medium (such as banknotes or coinage). Meanwhile, a system of indentured servitude for tenant farmers is enacted, in which the landowner and the tenant must sign a contract for a fixed number of years; replacing the system of leasehold estates. With Siam rejecting the reestablishment of tributary missions, and hearing of its annexation of Cambodia, a punitive expedition is launched against it, hoping to install a more loyalist regime.
    • Yakutia: With the nascent state being vigorously populated, settlers are encouraged to adopt a sedentary agrarian lifestyle, renouncing their lives as semi-nomadic herders. A palace is built in the capital of Kun (now inhabited by a thousand residents), with its designs borrowing extensively from Korean architecture. The Khan converts under the Sakhan Church of the East, and while permitting religious freedom, installs Sakhan Nestorianism as the state religion. Wheat is cultivated as the primary grain, helping to reduce reliance on imports from Korea. However, a significant aquaculture cultivating seaweeds and fish develops.
  • France: With the Iberians attacking the Kingdom of Navvare, the 24,000 troops in Pamplona hold out against the Iberian attack, With the Iberians continuing to flaunt their aggression a new force is raised within France of 90,000 men with 15,000 men attacking the Iberian force at Lyon while the remaining 75,000 forces continuing on the march to the south crossing the Durance at Avignon before marching east following the Durance until north of Aix- en Provence and then turning south to relieve Marseilles and then continuing onto relieve Toloun with the army inside of Toloun sortieing out to take out the army surrounding it. The 15,000 strong force following up from the battle north of Lyon get to Aix- en la Provence and then move east to Brignoles before turning south and marching upon the unoccupied Hyeres where they dig in while fighting occurs in Toloun. So if the Iberian forces tries to fall back it has nowhere to go. Meanwhile in the north of France as the war with Burgundy continues although with the peace option on the table the french feel the need to support their Dutch Republic since no peace offers have come off. 5000 men are fortified in Namur and Charleroi each while a force of 50,000 advances along the north bank of the Meuse with the goal of Liege or Maastrict first as a distraction. There hasn't been much fighting near here so supply lines are secure and a fleet of river barges are assembled to move supplies downstream to keep the french army going. Once/ if this army is beaten by a Burgundian army it is ordered to fall back into France and defend Saint- Quentin and surrounding areas. A few days after the initial march down the Meuse the force in Nieuwport set off first attacking Ostend, then Ghent before assuming swift seizures of these places makes a move towards Antwerp and not crossing the Shcedt river, 20,000 men are left on the western banks of the Schedt and ordered to dig in while the remaining 50,000 return to Neuiwport reinforcing Brussels with another 5000 soldiers as well. The dug in forces west of Antwerp can fire cannons and launch night time river raids against Antwerp shutting it down as a port. There is a worry about supply but the abundance of rivers allowing a large fleet of assembled river barges to ferry supplies to the troops and the fact that this land has not yet been crossed by the war which means food can be confiscated this time. The garrisons in the forts on the Pyrenees are maintained while soldiers in Marseilles continue to resist. Whether this is successful or not we launch another 30 English ships towards Neuiwport. Paris has 15,000 soldiers defending it, there are 5000 troops in Reims, Epernay, Chalons en Champagne, Bar de luc and Mácon.
    • You said last year that there were no troops there, now that Iberia has occupied the area, you don't get to that all of a sudden there's 24k troops behind Iberian lines. -Guy
    • I agree that troop figures should be mentioned or they shouldn't count at all. It's extremely frustrating when things like this are mentioned in retrospect. I was under the impression that there were no troops in Navarre whatsoever. -General
    • Im inclined to agree with General and Guy, no retroactivity here please -Feud
    • Allowing retroactivity can only end badly. ~Cal
    • The Dutch Republic does not exist until your treaty is signed by everyone. Stop making things up. Also, you are France and you are launching English ships? -General
  • Great Iberia: King John is pleased at Benin's decision to cede Fernando Pó without conflict. Emboldened, he asks Swahili to do the same with Mozambique Island. Sugarcane is planted in abundance on Fernando Pó, becoming the island's primary export. The Benguela colony expands southward along the coast to OTL Lucira. 5,000 troops are sent to Maiam to quell the small uprisings and restore order to the colony. The Iberian government is alarmed that Maiam would consider itself a "nation", and it becomes clear that Maiam has been allowed too much autonomy. Seeing as how Maiam has been mostly unaffected by the Franco-Burgundian War, the Maian government is blamed for not taking action against the rebels and stirring rebellious sentiment in the first place. As a response to these events, and as part of a wider planned administrative reform, Maiam, Nova Galiza, Mêcicipi, and Nova Lusitânia are placed under the rule of a viceroy (similar to the OTL Viceroyalty of New Spain). While still keeping their internal autonomy, they are subject to the viceroy, who is in turn subject to the King of Iberia. Amazonia is divided, with the western part becoming known as Aruaque, and the eastern part as Maranhão. The Iberian explorer Luís Araújo de Queiros explores the Pacific in search of Terra Australis, discovering the Vanuatu archipelago, charting the southern coast of Papua, and finally the northern tip of Australia near where Fernando Bonaventura landed years ago. In his report, he acknowledges the peninsula as a northern branch of the southern continent, making it the first conscious discovery of Australia. He names the OTL Torres Strait the "Strait of Bonaventura" in honor of his predecessor. In Europe, the siege of Hendaye is broken, and the Iberian army retreats to Irun to hold a defensive position over the mountain pass. Fortifications are built on the opposite side of the river. The army in Provence surrounds the city of Toulon on all sides, and the port is blockaded by sea, preventing the French from leaving without fighting in open battle. 15,000 troops (including 5000 mercenaries) are landed in Provence, laying siege to Marseille. An army of 4000 also cuts north to Lyon, linking up with Burgundian territory. Nine new ships are built this year at various ports in Portugal, Galicia, Granada, and Valencia.
    • Iberian Diplomacy to Papal States: Seeing many European nations turn against the Pope, we send diplomats to the Papal States to reaffirm our loyalty to the Church.
    • OOC Person: since when has Lyon been Burgundian.
  • Benin: With the construction of the new capital underway, built over the ruins of a long abandoned city, Oba Ogbebe begins to concern himself with the economic health of the empire. Seeking to diversify the economy, in the case of crop failure or disease, the Oba promotes other industries in the urban centers throughout the realm. The Oba personally pays for the creation of new gunsmithing, tailoring, fishing, and agricultural businesses in order to bring about said diversification. In fear of being seen as a militarily weak and passive Oba by the court, high-ranking officials, and generals, Ogbebe sends another dispatch of envoys across the Sahara to the Rashidun, in an effort to reclaim the territory of Benin stolen by their vassal. Nonetheless, we are grateful for the copies of the legendary Greek works send by the Arabs. We readily implement some of the ideas read in the manuscripts, such as democracy on the village-level and popular assemblies in the capital, where commoners and freemen may present issues to the Oba personally.
    • Rashidun Dip: Ogbebe is given a generous tour of the Museum of Alexandria, the Kaaba in Mecca, and the Grand Mosque of Cairo. Benin is told that those territories, of relatviely small population and resources, are only necessary for facilitating easier trade with Morocco across the Atlantic coast, but some agreement could be made for giving them back in the future.
  • Sinkyone: We send even more people to OTL Gold Beach Oregon which at this point has become an actualy small village with the name Ikadal and its population of 500 people. We also have now domesticated Elks to have stronger backs so that they can have loads on their back and carry material and not just plow the ground. We also get more farmers and wintu and the Lassik population have all adopted farming. we also bring the technology of agriculture to Wiyot and our ally Wailiki.
  • Tsardom of Belka: The quick capitulation of enice against the new professional armies of Belka adds credence to the new system and with venice have essentially ended its dominion over the various italian cities it has held sway over, the Tsar invites a council of all the city leaders of former Venetian north Italy in Trieste. The meeting conducted essentially does not dismantle the entity in italy but rather reorganizes it into the Italian League. An organization which takes all the major cities located within its domain who are given an equal voice in electing a leader to represent the whole. Its just a grander principle of the merchant republic. In this case too the "venetian" fleet is to be repurposes into the fleet of the Italian league. Belka is to be the Guarentor of the Italian league for a period of 15 years until it is developed enough to fend for itself. Then it will be given its sovereignty back in full. With italy being reorganized while under occupation of the Belkan forces, the reserve troops are pulled out and allowed to return home. The population grows to groughly 10.7 million and growing. The economy starts to regain traction now with its old trade routes fully restored and the domestic economy showing great promise of expansion specifically in the developing transylvania. The Tsar allocates funds for the modernization of the Belkan highway network as well as tacking on an addendum to build the highways into Transylvania.
    • Scandinavian diplomacy to the Papacy: We refuse to open our core lands to Catholic influence, hence why we rejected these outrageous terms.
    • Papal DIplomacy: The Secretary realises there has been a misunderstanding: the terms were only intended to relate to the Scandinavian territories of Oldenburg and the Hebrides, as well as any formerly-Catholic-controlled colonies Scandinaia may gain in the future; hardly Scandinavia's core lands. The Secretary also points out that permitting the Catholic populations in such places could only be a good thing for general stability amongst the populace. He also reiterates his openness to a counter-offer.
  • Papal States: The Pope thanks Hispania for their kind reiteration of loyalty, and sends some missionaries to the new Portuguese colonies in Africa. In the musical world, Wolfenburg releases his second opera: it is about the Anatolian Crusade, and depicts the Ottomans as cowardly villains. In an about-face from Wolfenburg's previous works, the Russian character is depicted as brave and pious, no doubt to emphasise the evil-ness of the Ottomans. The opera is another immense success, with Pope Zachary loving it and paying for a staging of it in the Colisseum with free entry. Thus maby of Roe's poor are able to see the spectacle. With Venice falling so quickly to Belka, the Pope sends an ambassador to the Belkan commander, asking whether the previous Papal-Venetian agreement to keep the border demilitarised could be honoured by the new administration. Missions continue in the New World, Southern Africa, Korea-China, and Japan. Assistance is given to the Sakhan Church of the East.
  • Kingdom of Burgundy: while peace negotiations are underway, Graaf Lasser continues his reorganization of his downsized force. The new units, bolstered by newly hired mercenaries, are repeatedly trained in the new tactics, and artillery is given a new prioritization, after the effects of massed cannon fire are made evident in the Belkan Crusade. The newly christened Army of the West, is stationed at Herselt, and extensive fortifications are made should the French attempt to push. With news of the French advances towards Ostend and Liege, the Army of the West is dispatched to deal with the army advancing on Antwerp, engaging them at the city of St-Niklaas. After successfully blunting their advance towards Antwerp, the Army of the West moves back to the south as it considers moving against the army advancing on Liege.
The treaty of Brussels is acknowledged and signed while the we are still ready to negotiate with the current Burgundian king and regime.A naval sortie is launched out of Dunkirk with 30 English ships (good ships) moving out of the Dunkirk waters and keeping near to the coast to get to Nieuwport where we move into the port.
  • Russia: We continue to expand 40 px into Siberia. Work on the Far East section of the Siberian road continues. Continued farming of South Siberia continues with more land cleared. In the rivers of the north continued hunting of Sea Otters and Beavers continues to bring in large stocks into the Fur Market. The Tsar begins to see the idea of Belka uniting the southern Slavs, and Russia uniting the Northern Slavs. The Tsar begins plans to prepare for an invasion of Kiev, but plans to respect Kiev Princedom. The Tsars reasoning's, take the homeland of the original Rus which was destroyed by the Mongol Tartar invaders. The process of relocation in Siberia ends and we go along the 1645 borders. The 35,000 soldiers return home. In Markovgrad, instructions are received from the Governor building in Omsk, an order of ten galleons, 30 frigates, and 15 carracks. This is the beginning of the Pacific Fleet. Many former militia men out of work go on the long road to Markovgrad to work. The schooners of the Pacific squadron found a small settlement in a natural bay/harbor which they call Severnyy Bereg, North Shore (OTL Magadan). We sail part of our fleet through the Copenhagen Straits off the coast of Jutland as a show of naval force to the western naval powers. It properly returns back to port in Rurikgrad and Riga.
    • Poland: Poland begins to train a large force of 40,000 men for territory of Poles within Kiev.
    • English Arcadia: With King Willaim's war concluded, we finish peace talks with Burgendy (Map available soon), and occupy the new territory. We send 10,000 troops to combat the Natives invading our territory, but secretly funnel aid to the Iroquois attacking Burgundy.
  • Swahili: We continue our agriculture policies. The royal guards continue convincing contracted servants. Areas interior to Mobassa and Malindi is colonized. We also send out conquistadors to expand northwards into more northern Somalia. We continue development of Madagascar. We continue trading food and goods with Europe and the Caliphate. The colony in Orungu also receives a boon from the trade, and we station 1000 guards at the colony. Akida goes to Belka and Veneto.
    • Swahili Dip to Iberia: We reject Iberia's offer taking it as a great insult..
    • Swahili Dip to Veneto : We propose a trade agreement
    • Swahili Dip to Belka: We propose a trade agreement

1652

Knowledge of agriculture spreads from Sinkyone to various tribes not direcly contacting them, located across OTL California, Nevada, and British Columbia.

The former states of Venice terri firma agree to join the Italian League, and quickly work to modernize the nations land forces and economy.

Churches mixing Latin and Northern rite continue to spread in northern Germany.

The years after the Anatolian Crusade (more formally known as "The Great Turkish War") has allowed knowledge of technology and tactics of Belka spread into central Europe and northern Italy.

King William's War reaches an end with the Shawnee and Susquehana tribes crushed by the English forces, while the Iroqois establishes some control over OTL upstate New York and a little of northern Pennsylvania.

  • Papal States: The Papal envoy to the Belkan commander reiterates the Pope's humble request that the new administration in the Italian League, and the Belkan troops stationed there, consider honouring the previous Papal-Venetian agreement to keep the border demilitarised, which helps keep trade flowing across the peninsula. The Secretary for Foreign Relations reiterates to Scandinavia's ambassador that he believes that there has been a misunderstanding, and that the proposal was only meant to relate to previously-Catholic-controlled Scandinavian territories, not the 'core territories' of the Scandinavian peninsula. The mixed-rite churches in northern Germany are given tentative recognition by the Pope, who authorises the Archbishop of Cologne, as Patriarch of the Empire, to make provisions for their particular Germanic forms of worship under the Imperial Synod, provided there is no doctrinal heterodoxy [MODS: since the Northern and Latin rites are both Catholic, I am assuming (and it only makes sense) that these guys are catholic, just of a novel liturgical tradition]. Two competing cafes open in Rome, and rumour has it that the Pope has visited both. The Congregation for Canonisations announces the confirmation of cultus of Charlemagne, allowing him to be honoured by the universal church as 'Blessed Charles the Great'. Missions continue in the New World, Southern Africa (including the new Portuguese colonies there), Japan, and Korea-China, and assistance continues for the Sakhan Church.
  • Sinkyone: We expand our village Ikadal to 1000 and there also pops up a village on Lake Diltwa Wintuye this village named Armeq also make the first boats made out of a kind of grass this is used for in land river boats. Our Elks become because of domistication and a diet of tomatoes strong but their horns become small with males.
  • Tsardom of Belka: The reorganization and rehabilitation of the new Italian League continues, this leads to Belkan troops instituting their training regimen to the leagues troops, as well as arming them. General Mikhail Korolev is given the task of bringing the Italians into the modern military age as he specifically helps in the training of nearly 30,000 troops for the Italians. The Administrative divisions of the league are set up with Venice, Verona, Trent, Urbino and Ravenna set up as the equal cities. Venice and Ravenna operate as the port and trade cities, and the rest are production powerhouses which get italian goods to the trade markets. The army is set up as a collective entity with the cities all forced to provide troop strength based on the population. The Economy while rudimentary is set up on a solid foundation. The Tsardom itself still continues attempting to urbanize some of its other cities specifically Sofiya, Tarnovo and Oured hoping of matching the huge urban rate of Vasiligrad. The Tsar continues growing older and begins thinking about the transfer of power to his son. His son Constantine now 18 also prepares himself for rulership.
  • Great Union of Korea and China: The government continues the endorsement of neo–Confucianism as the national philosophy, but the Emperor maintains a heterodox stance; allowing the proliferation of new branches offering new reinterpretations of Confucius' teachings. Monopoly over the printing and minting industries are restored, allowing inflation to be quelled through restrictions in production. In the absence of competitors, chaebol firms begin penetrating through the Chinese market and dominating the financial sector. With the utilization of extensive funds, a five-year reconstruction campaign is aggressively pursued to restore China's formerly grandeur state. To stimulate economic recovery, paid wages are heightened, allowing households to purchase more basic necessities (with subsidized prices) as well as to indulge in luxury consumption, eventually resulting in a positive-feedback loop. The Korean Nestorian Church sends missionaries to the tributaries of Tondo and Japan to introduce the Korean branch of Nestorian Christianity. Occupied Siam is split into three; Cambodia comprising of the former Khmer Empire, Thailand comprising Siam proper, and Laos comprising of the lands inhabited by the Isan people (sans the Isan plateau, which is administered under Thailand). A small part of the Mekong Delta facing South China Sea is given to Champa. All three nascent states are admitted under the tributary system, with Thailand being vassalized and installing a new royal family. Emissaries are sent to the Bengal Sultanate, warning that it will face a punitive expedition if it does not give immediate independence to Ahom, Pegu, the Shan states and Bhutan.
    • Yakutia: With the nascent state being vigorously populated, settlers are encouraged to adopt a sedentary agrarian lifestyle, renouncing their lives as semi-nomadic herders. Wheat is cultivated as the primary grain, helping to reduce reliance on imports from Korea. However, a significant aquaculture cultivating seaweeds and breeding fish develops.
  • Great Iberia: The Iberian fleet patrols the northern coast of France, intercepting any attempts to move ships through the English Channel. Both sides of the channel are blockaded, preventing all Anglo-French naval traffic. In coordination with the Burgundian fleet, repeated attacks are carried out against the Anglo-French navies. 12 fireships are sailed into the Yser Canal in Nieuwpoort, inflicting heavy damage to the anchored English fleet, followed by the arrival of 42 Iberian ships to engage the remaining ships. Nine additional ships are sent to the Bay of Biscay to reinforce the blockade there. The French fleet sailing from Dunkirk is intercepted by two Iberian fleets in the Bay of Biscay. The French ships are scattered and funneled into multiple smaller engagements, with some battles occurring off the southern coast of Brittany and others as far south as Galicia. They are effectively cut off from reinforcements by the ubiquitous Iberian presence. The English fleet sailing from Portsmouth clashes with 50 Iberian ships somewhere in the open sea between Portsmouth and Le Havre. Burgundy is asked to send reinforcements to help defeat the scattered English fleets. 25 Burgundian ships are directed to reinforce the fleet outside Niewuport, while the rest are directed to patrol the channel and attack enemy ships on sight. Meanwhile, the blockade of Mediterranean France continues. The siege of Marseilles is broken and the army retreats by land to Catalonia. The army in Toulon retreats to La Londe-les-Maures. In the Iberian peninsula, 10,000 troops are garrisoned south of Le Perthus in Catalonia to guard the mountain pass. 15,000 troops are moved from Irun to Galicia in order to reduce logistical stress. 4000 more are moved to San Sebastián and Pamplona (2,000 each). The remaining 15,000 in Irun continue to fortify their positions along the river and mountainside. Being in such close proximity to Hendaye, they get certain townspeople to carry messages across to the enemy garrison, usually containing insults, greetings, or jokes. During the winter, soldiers of both sides gather on Pheasant Island (deemed "neutral ground") to exchange gifts. Having defeated the Mayan rebels, the army in Maiam is transferred to Hispaniola. 15,000 troops are transported to Hispaniola from mainland Iberia in preparation for a colonial war. São Atto (OTL São Luís) and its surrounding fort are garrisoned by 1000 troops. Tortuga becomes a base for privateers operating against English and French shipping in the Caribbean. A settlement forms around Fort São Sebastião on Mozambique Island. A chapel is built in the east wing of the fort. 500 troops are garrisoned on the island.
  • After a few years of experimentation, the Nʉmʉnʉ under peace chief Nocoma have now established a small but growing population of relatively domesticated bison that is regularly supplemented by new captures from the native population. Now, as spring comes, the Nʉmʉnʉ experience a large increase in bison and puuku (horses) numbers. Nocoma declares to the haitsii that the time has come to fulfill his lifelong dream of reamining in one place, which is met with great resistance from many of the other elders. "Why did the great spirits give us the puuku if we were just to remain stationary?" asked war chief Okaartsu. Nocoma decides that the best way to show his dream to the haitsii is to take them to the lands of the Pueblo, and so begins a migration to that region of the Southern Rocky Mountains. By mid-summer, the People have arrived. While Nocoma advises a peaceful approach, Okaartsu convinces the haitsii that a traditional raid would best serve the Nʉmʉnʉ. In the ensuing raid, the first Pueblo village is utterly destroyed, but some agricultural elements remain in the outskirts. "This is the glorious food of settlement," Nocoma proclaims after the raid, "and it is what I have seen for our people." The haitsii are still unconvinced, and decide to promote Okaartsu as peace chief as well as war chief, for the first time unifying the crucial positions. Okaartsu begins a series of raids throughout the summer and into the fall on the Pueblo peoples, but then migrates back to wintering grounds as the leaves finish falling from the trees.
  • Armenian Kingdom of Cilicia: After three centuries of suppression and indignity the Cilician Armenians are now free and have gained their long lost freedom. The Upper class Cilician Armenians, who are french influenced and are roman catholic along with the plurality of the people in the nation, decide upon a king of Cilicia. James de Lusignan, a descendant of the last king of Armenia, the kings of jerusalem, and the kings of cyprus is invited to the throne of Cilicia. To which he takes the name King Leo VII of Cilicia. The capitol is changed to the "Pearl of the  Mediterranean" Hadrianopolis. The King's Coronation is celebrated on the holy day of Good Friday. No official moves have been made towards deciding what denomination of christianity the country will follow. But the government seems to be leaning towards the catholic armenian church. The Kingdom sends out diplomats to the caliphate, belka, Sicily, Papal States, and Great Iberia hoping to begin diplomatic relations (Player Response). Bandits in Cilicia begin to conduct raids on Dulkadir so far however no evidence has been made to connect them with the Cilician government.
    • Iberian Diplomacy: We agree to improve relations and urge Cilicia to remain Catholic, seeing the need for a strong Catholic state in the Mediterranean to balance the Orthodox and Islamic powers.
    • Papal Diplomacy: The Pope welcomes the Cilician diplomat and offers support to the newly-free country. His Holiness also leaves open an offer to acept the Armenian Cilician church as a sui iuris Eastern-rite church if that would suit.
  • France: We offer Burgundy a truce in which there will be a halt on both sides to offensive actions maintaining current on lands and all enemy war ships will not be allowed to be based below Holland's diep but naval action may still continue. As Burgundy refuses the truce offer fighting continues, in the north Namur, Charleroi, Maastrict are all held by 3300 fortified troops while 50,000 troops are held at Liege supplied by river barges and prepare defences on both banks of the river against an enemy attack. If the enemy attempt to push inwards into Belgium this force has the option of pushing to Antwerp or further north. Ghent and Brussels each have 10,000 troops holding them. A french force of 60,000 is held at Lille ready to move on Antwerp if the force in Belgium leaves Antwerp open for attack or if they attempt to push into Belgium. French troops start raiding land east of Troyes burning crops and looting as well as killing villagers in an attempt to cause famine. An additional 30,000 are raised to replace losses in the south and are dispatched as reinforcements. Having failed to totally defeat the Iberian force last turn but pushing them back a force of 10,000 troops moves north to Pierrefeu-du-Var before marching east and then turning south where they split into wo equal forces with a force west of Brégançon and another one north of Lake du Trapan, these two forces both dig in between hills and water to block another Iberian retreat when the main force hits them. 140,000 troops now with reinforcements attacks the Iberian force at La Londe- las- Maures with full force intending to force them to retreat to sea. A force of 40 ships is sent out of Dunkirk and to sail to Rochefort and may fight enemy ships. French east India company declares neutrality.
    • Burgundian Dip: without the inclusion of Burgundy's ally Iberia in the truce, the offer is respectfully declined, and instead a general truce on all fronts is suggested while a peace is negotiated.
    • Iberian Diplomacy: We agree to peace only under the Burgundian terms, with no territorial changes to Iberia and a 15-year truce between all participants.
    • Maian Dip:  Maiam has officially declared independence from Iberia, and seeks recognition and support from France.
  • Kingdom of England, Ireland and Scotland: Seeing the massive desertions in France as supply chains collapse this is looked upon with dismay but the declaration of the dutch republic is considered good news at having survived and the capture of Ostend and Ghent. There is also sastifacation at holding Nieuwport and forces their construct a chain boom and have 3300 English troops defending the city meaning the enemy have to land and cut the chain boom. With the war going well in Arcadia this is appreciated but there is still concern well aware the war is in its early. There is little change from the previous year with the same forces holding the same positions in England while forces assigned to fighting Arcadia do so under the command of the Governor of the Arcadian colonies. Privateers continue to hit belligerent shipping in the English channel and north sea as well as expanding operations to the Atlantic ocean to target Iberian shipping as well. England has 5.4 million people, Wales has 0.5 million, Ireland has 1.6 m to million people and Scotland one million people. A force of 40 ships is assembled in Portsmouth moves out to patrol the English channel clashing with enemy ships presumably.
    • Maian Dip: Maiam has officially declared independence from Iberia, and seeks recognition and support from England.
  • Russia: We expand south to the Yakutian Border and we continue to expand 40 px into Siberia. We estimate time for our pacific fleets completion at 1670. Continued Preparation for the war with Kiev continues. The Construction of the Irkutsk-Sakhatsk Section of the Siberian Road continues. The Army primarily focusus on Musketeers and now usage of heavy artillery. More guns are produced in Siberia for the increased weapon demand with the pelt hunting. We also begin upgrading out Pacific Harbor Facilities in Severnyy Bereg and Markovgrad. Many retired Cossack soldiers settle in Markovgrad and Severnyy Bereg. We start to train up 450,000 soldiers for the invasion of Kiev. Already trained soldiers from the Zionviy Uprising begin to train the Polish Army of 40,000 that is being gathered. General Yuri Krukov, a veteran of the Uprising, begins to train Polish General Mort Warkowsky in the tactics of the war.
  • Kingdom of Burgundy: with word of the Iberians sortie against the English, a fleet of 60 ships are sent to the area to patrol for English ships and to detach ships as reinforcements should they be needed.
  • Bengal Sultanate: The Bengali Sultan has met with the leader of Burma for the treaty last year. In conclusion, all of the land that the Burmese had owned is now apart of Bengal. The Sultan after the treaty had delivered the following speech:" People of Burma, Ahom, and Bengal" We come together today for one thing and one thing only. We come here to talk about Unity. Our people have been long divided for years and only now we stand united with a stand for victory and peace. But our fight is not yet over. There are many nations that still threaten our very existence. But we shall stand strong. We shall prevail at the very end united as one.All the things that have been lost shall and will in due time be rebuilt. But may I say for one thing and one thing only. We shall never surrender! We are unique with various ethnicities and profiles. And yet we are together. For the powers in the north and west of us,We shall not fall into their grasp. We are powerful. We are together. And yet there is room for more unity. So as of now,While we are in post-war,I only hope for one thing. And that is our survival. For anything that comes our way. We shall fight at our ports. We shall fight in the valleys. We shall fight on the mountains. And at the end, through all the conflictions,We shall prevail. So I ask for this one thing and one thing only. I ask for our people to stand united. Throughout whatever comes our way. I ask we shall stay as one. No matter what we shall fight for our very existence. I do not now what god or higher being you believe, but one thing is for certain. With our faith, we shall stand victorious. We shall not be poor but a nation of riches. We shall not be a nation in shambles but a nation of beauty. We shall not give up. I have seen through the war, that our nation was still thriving. And If it was still growing, Then that means there is still room for improvement. So let's work together.Stay together. And stay united!" Many crowds cheered afterward believing in the Sultan's words and hopes of unity and prosperity for the nation. The population in the nation is now 31.05 million people. The workforce of the nation has grown significantly leading to low rates of poverty in the nation. Ships and trade have increased in the nation significantly. Mining has become more and more common. 23,000 men have been recruited into the military over the last two years. More Naval battleships have been built. Farming has also grown more common in the valleys. The nation was also divided into four districts this year. The districts are Bhutan, Burma, Ahom, And Bengali. Each sector is run by a royal governor.45% of the nation are now wealthy as well. Institutions and Universities have grown. The Teavana continues to be the most popular ship in the nation. The Freeway is only three years away from completion and works on a vast sewer network has begun to keep areas clean and keep areas for the most part, odor-free. Construction of a wall on the Aryavartan border has begun. It is expected to span across the whole border and stand 32 feet tall to protect the country from possible invasions. The nation has also expanded on construction. Rivers have become areas of trade with ports lingering across the area and a growing nation moving forward and deeper into the modern era.
  • Maiam: Maiam revolts against the oppressive Iberian regime and their oppressive hold on the nation. Major ports are seized and Iberian vessels commissioned into the already growing Maian fleet. Messengers are sent to nearby Mecicipi and Amazonia to encourage them to take up arms as well. The Emperor urges all the citizens of Maiam to remember that while Iberia turned a blind eye to them, the government of Maiam never forgot any of its 'children'. Maiam's population now reflects about half native Mayan and Mexican and half European, with a large mixed-race population. Expansion continues along the northern and southern borders, focusing on the coast. Trade continues up from Amazonia and down from Mecicipi, and these trade routes are kept up. Maiam, seeking to become more self-reliant, begins building its own navy and armories.

1653

A great leader emerges to take control of the Italian League, from the seat of its government in Venice, named Polydore Morosini. He works to improve friendly relations with Belka and uses their help to rebuild the nation, while also maintaining his loyalty to the Pope. Morosini also adopts Pietism and allows its prosyltization in the nation.

China begins to suffer logistical strain from campaigning so far south. (you are going a little too far).

Another, more moderate famine across Anatolia in the wake of the Great Turkish War. Taking advantage of this, Pontus invades and conquers the two gray NPCs on its southern border.

  • Maiam: Maiam continues its revolution against the Iberian tyrants. Maian soldiers are mustered and sent to defend strategic locations in case of Iberian retaliation. More ports are seized and Iberian vessels commissioned into the already growing Maian fleet. Messengers are sent to nearby Mecicipi and Amazonia to encourage them to take up arms as well. A large group of messengers is sent to Europe to ask for recognition and support. England, France, Russia and Belka are all contacted. Some messengers are sent to Prussia and Burgundy as well. Maiam, seeking to become more self-reliant, continues building its own navy and armories.
  • Great Iberia: With peace negotiations underway, fighting slows down in Europe, although the Burgundian side retains naval superiority. The army in Provence is transported to Valencia by ship, withdrawing the last Iberian forces from France. They are instead placed in defense of the Iberian Peninsula. Lisbon is garrisoned by 5000 troops, Bilbao and Barcelona by 1000 each. The remaining Iberian troops withdraw from Irun. The Treaty of Rome is signed in order to focus on more pressing matters in the colonies. Within Iberia and the colonies, the Mayan revolt is painted as a rejection of years of Iberian support for the Mayan people. The natives are viewed as ungrateful and untrustworthy, and European settlers (especially in neighboring colonies) are promised land and wealth of their own in Maiam in exchange for bringing the colony back under the Iberian Crown. This results in internal and external hostility against the Mayans as Europeans attempt to carve out their own territory from the Maian state, and ultimately a revival of the conquistadors throughout the colonies. Fighting breaks out in Nova Lusitânia between Aquiminzaque's forces and the Iberian colonists. Loyalist forces are assembled in the north near Cartagena, reinforced by ~17,000 troops raised by the colonial governor or from continental Iberia. The loyalist forces march south towards Bogotá to halt the rebel army's advance and attempt to capture Aquiminzaque II. ~700 native loyalist forces are raised north of Bogotá. Messengers are sent to native loyalists within rebel-held areas and even Aquiminzaque's own commanders, encouraging them to abandon him. The army of 20,000 in Hispaniola lands in the northeast Yucatán (near Cancún), reinforced by 11,000 troops from Galicia and León, as well as 25,000 Burgundians. The Iberian forces recapture the coastal area from Cancún to Tulum, before marching northwest to Merida, and then south to Mayapan, liberating colonial settlements along the way. They are ordered to crush any Mayan opposition in Yucatán and, should this campaign succeed, continue their advance to Campeche. Meanwhile, the conquistador Damián Agramonte leads an army of 3000 from Nova Galiza into Mexican lands, hoping to make allies of the various Mexica groups and incite a revolt against the Mayans. He proclaims that they have become slaves to their Mayan enemies, living under the Mayan heel, and he has come to liberate them, restore their once great empires, and help defeat their common enemy (Mod response if any Mexica join Agramonte and/or revolt against the Maya). Mêcicipi raises a small militia to defend itself from Maiam. Maranhão expands along the branches of the Amazon River and eastward to São Atto. Benguela expands inland slightly. The island of Annobón (located south of São Tomé) is claimed as the site of a planned slave colony. A Portuguese trade fleet is sent to secure trade routes to India, visiting the Swahili city of Malindi on the way. Efforts are made to modernize the army and adopt a modern army structure. The bayonet (known as the "Bulgarian knife") is adopted.
    • Iberian Diplomacy to Karnad: A Portuguese trade fleet sails into Kochi, displaying the grandeur of the Iberian navy and putting on quite a show. With much ado, they request that the Iberians are given preferential trade rights within the city and fleet basing rights for their extended voyages to the east, essentially making Kochi an Iberian trading post. In exchange, they offer the service of the Iberian navy in defending Karnad against pirates or other enemies.
    • We accept the offer and offer an alliance and trading pact. We request that Karnad ships be allowed to sail with the Iberian merchant ships on their voyages. - Karnad
    • Iberian Diplomacy: The Iberians accept a trade pact and informal alliance with Karnad. Some of their sailors are allowed to tag along as advisors or translators.
  • Maipure-Muisca Confederation: In the northern Amazon, residual groups of natives fleeing the devastation of the Iberian colonization, mainly Chibcha and Arawakan-language speakers, have been collecting for decades, along with escaped slaves and criminals. They adopt the Maipure language as their lingua franca, but are heavily influenced by the remnants of the Muisca Confederation, who fled the Colombian highlands after the Iberian colonization. One of these, claiming to be the son of Aquiminzaque, last of the "zaques" or kings of the Muisca Confederation, is able to marry the daughter of a paramount Maipure chieftain and thereby attain sway over a considerable area of the Upper Amazon rainforest, naming himself Aquiminzaque II. Hearing of the Maya's exhortations to revolt, he leads gathers thousands of warriors and leads them northward in attack, and they are rapidly joined by slaves, as well as the oppressed indigenous peoples of Iberian Amazonia. He promises the abolition of the oppressive encomienda system of forced labour and the return of Spanish landowners' territories to their enslaved or indigenous inhabitants. He is able to mobilize 4000 warriors from his and allied tribes, plus another 6000 rebels (I'm basing these numbers off of Tupac Amarau II's similar OTL revolt), and with many conquistador landowners absent attacking the Maya, is able to destroy Iberian militias piecemeal and advance on Bogota. Copying the Maya, he seeks recognition and aid from England and France, while also offering Maiam an alliance.
    • An educated native priest sympathetic to Aquiminzaque II's cause is sent to the Papal States bearing a copy of the Papal encyclical Sublimis Dei and 10,000 individual statements recording Iberian oppression, enslavement and abuse of natives by conquistadors which violate the encyclical. Noting that the Maipure-Muisca are Christian, he begs the Pope's intercession to help them free themselves from Iberia's oppression.
    • Papal Diplomacy: The Papacy receives the submission, and is instantly appalled at the many alleged violations of Dilexit Deus [it has a different name TTL]. The Hiapanic ambassador is immediately summoned to the Pope's presence to explain this situation.
  • Benin: With the capital of the new capital nearly completed nearing the end of the year, Oba Ogbebe orders the creation of a new holiday to commemorate the capital, with the approval of the imperial legislature. Taking from the Oba's subsidies, industries of gunsmithing, tailoring, and fishing begin to flourish in the empire's main cities, espicially in the developed eastern regions of the realm. Having personally travelling over the Sahara to demand the return of Benin's rightful territory, the aristocrats and generals of Benin who demanded martial aggression, against the colonists, are placated for the time being. During the Oba's visit to the Caliphate, he witnesses the modern capabilities of the Arabian military. With no martial talent within himself, the Oba requests military advisers, weaponry, and canons from the Caliphate, Iberia, and any other yet unknown European powers. In return, the Oba offers convicted criminals, captives of war from the border regions of the empire, and gold.
    • England Diplomacy: We offer military advisers, muskets and cannons to Benin in exchange for slaves.
    • Benin Diplomacy: The Oba and imperial legislature agrees. An elite army of 1000 men is formed in the new capital, exclusively to capture barbarians in the nether regions of the empire to be sold into slavery.
    • Iberian Secret Diplomacy: Eager to acquire new slaves for its colonies and wealth from gold-rich Benin, Iberia offers to send the Portuguese drillmaster Dário de Guimarães to train and structure the Beninese army in the Iberian style (which, the diplomat notes, is superior to the English style), as well as providing snaphance muskets and several pieces of cannon. Additionally, Iberia will use its good offices to help Benin reattain control of the Moorish Gold Coast, and assist them in any military engagements for the duration of de Guimarães' stay. In exchange, Benin will cancel its agreements with England and instead provide a steady supply of slaves to Iberian colonies in Annobón, Fernando Pó, and the New World. They will also give Iberian merchants preferential trading rights in Beninese ports, and send Iberia a payment of gold for their efforts.
    • Benin Diplomacy: Taking into consideration that the Iberians are more so in a position to help the empire and retake lost lands from years before, the Oba orders the previous deal with the English cancelled and agrees to the terms set by the Iberians.
    • Caliphate Dip: We send large amounts of gold and scientific advisors to Benin, along with medicianl technology for vaccinations against disease. We do not ask for slaves, but ivory only.
  • France: A lot of Jews begin migrating to the Malukus and inbreeding. Rumor is spread in the colonies that the wandering Jew is in Amazonia. So hunting parties go out looking for him. The war continues but looks near end with all but Iberia so far having signed the Treaty of Rome. Anticipation as to whether or not Iberia will sign is held. If Iberia signs the treaty the war is over and in accordance with the treaty withdrawls are made from occupied lands and 10,000 troops are sent to re- occupy Pamplona while 15,000 troops are held in Middelkirke and another 15,000 in Sens. If the war does not end with Iberia signing the treaty the french launch an all out attack on Iberian forces retreating to wipe them out. With this a french force of 50,000 troops is left in Provence while the rest are taken back up to northern France.
  • Kingdom of England, Ireland and Scotland: Hopefully the Treaty of Rome will be signed by Iberia ending the war. If it does the treaty is respected and land which Burgundy should hold in Arcadia is given to them. English Arcadia is told to construct a strategic fortress or defence in the newly taken lands. If the treaty is not signed we ask English Arcadia to support the rebelling peoples of Maiam and Maipure-Muisca Confederation with troops and ships while we dispatch a task force of 30 ships and 15000 men from Liverpool to go to Maiam and attack the Iberians there and support the natives if the Iberians do not sign. Assuming the Iberians do sign the treaty we end the war and pull our fleets and troops back to England while we start pushing to send migrants and African volunteers from areas near Benin to Arcadia to populate the new lands. We also start production of weapons in London to send to Benin. Seeing the Bengal sultanate come under threat we offer to support Bengal by raising a mercenary army and sending hundreds of experienced veterans of the past two wars in Europe and Arcadia to raise a local force of 20,000 mercenary troops and train them as experiences on the continent dictate with cavalry, infantry primarily equipped with muskets and good artillery. It is hoped this force will be one of the better ones in India and loyal to the Britons. We also start assembling a colonial fleet of 50 ships in Portsmouth to possibly be dispatched to Bengal if the situation over there turns violent. With an end to the war we downsize our regular forces to 20,000 soldiers in York and 300 ships as well as a greater emphasis on larger ships of the line with 150 based out of Portsmouth and another 150 based in Edinburgh. The 15,000 soliders are planned to be updated with an end to melee weapons like the pike and a greater emphasis on well drilled muskets. England has 5.4 million people, Wales has 0.5 million Ireland has 1.6 million people and Scotland one million people. The return to peace is appreciated with more stable finances.
  • Bengal Dip: We accept England's gratitude for assisting us in our times of trouble and accept their offer.
  • Russia: We change the date of the attack on Kiev for next year. We continue to expand 40 px in Siberia, we close in our conquests to the Yakutian border. More guns and canons are produced. Continued killings of beaver and otter populations in Siberia continues. Work on the Pacific Fleet is halted in favor of building up the two future ports. 450,000 soldiers are gathered on the northern border of Kiev hoping to push strait to the city of Kiev. the 40,000 Polish soldiers join our men. Meanwhile we begin to produce a uniform on par with ours but in a maroon shade of coloring for Polish soldiers.
  • Papal States: For Easter, Pope Zachary begins a new tradition, granting an Urbi et Orbi blessing from the papal balcony, wishing all throughout the world a blessed Easter. A new Nuncio is sent to Morsini as leader of the Italian League. The Nuncio emphasises the Pope's strong hope that the new regime will continue the region's fruitful relationship with Rome. The Pietist Movement is given official sanction by the Prefect of the Inquisition, who establishes a dicastery to facilitate engagement with and discussion within the movement. The Immaculata's university in Rome begins teaching a course on the theology of the Pietist movement. Missions to Japan, Korea-China, the New World, and Southern Africa (especially in and around the Portuguese and Burgundian colonies) continue. Some financial aid is given to the Sakhan Church of the East in Yakutia from the Churches in Korea-China. The Treaty of Rome is signed in the eternal city, with Pope Zachary affixing his own seal to it. Blessing the participants, he calls the truce contained within the treaty a "Peace and Truce of God", referring to the Mediaeval custom of Church-sponsored truces and sanctuaries. He admonishes all signatories to adhere to their promise of peace before God, or suffer both His wrath and the wrath of His Church.
  • Kingdom of Burgundy: New Netherlands expands 50 px up the Wacht River (otl Hudson River). Nova Belgica expands 50 px into the interior. Guyana expands 50 px east. With peace in Europe attained, the Burgundian army is reduced to a standing force of 60,000 men. But once word of the Maiam revolt reaches Burgundy, a force of 25,000 troops, rechristened the Army of Kuba, is detached and sent to aid Iberia in suppressing the revolt. The naval battles of the most recent war with England has appeared to validate the beliefs ablution the new, stronger ships of the line, and several more standardized 74-gunners are ordered for the navy, now reorganized into two primary fleets, one stationed in Flanders, and one in Holland.
  • Bengal Sultanate: The great nation of Bengal faces tensions with its new neighbor, China which threatens the growing unity of this diverse nation. 120,000 troops are sent to the border as a defensive strategy if worst comes to worst. Fears of an invasion have begun to spread across Bhutan and through Burma with frustrations and growing hate of the Chinese. Training camps are put in to place to teach citizens to defend themeselves if worst comes to worst and these classes will be taken by people between 14 and 50. This will hopefully create an army made up of average everday citizens to help on the main front if an invasion occurs. Forts are built around the border to protect the region but hopes in the Topography being able to prevent any Chinese invasion. The capital of Bengal has been moved to the large coastal city of Mas Ubai as an order to protect the capital. Precautions have been taken to assist people who want to evacuate from the north due to fears of possible war to move southwards towards the coast. Heavily armed troops have also moved into Bhutan and Ahom to keep order and control of the districts to keep the region secure if the threat was to arise. Troops and assistance from several different allies have been called upon ranging from nations of England all the way back to Punjab. Support from many nations has already begun to arrive. Other than the threat of war, the population has reached around 32.56 million. Recruitments to the army have reached record levels with 30,000 troops joining. Jobs have continued to increase at shops that support the military with supplies and goods. Coastal towns and cities grow significantly from mass immigration. The PTS Teavana is now no longer the largest ship in the world but instead is the Royal Naval Ship Cumbre. Life has continued to go well for the citizens of the nation and the Sultan has reassured the safety of the citizens of this great nation to keep calm for now and if things get out of hand, to prepare for battle. Production of crops continues to rise. Hopes for stability and peace with nearby neighbors are hoped upon but at this moment no one knows what will happen as of yet.
  • Great Union of Korea and China: The government continues the endorsement of neo–Confucianism as the national philosophy, but the Emperor maintains a heterodox stance; allowing the proliferation of new branches offering new reinterpretations of Confucius' teachings. However, imperial examination is revamped to remove overemphasis on philosophy, and instead integrates sciences and mathematics into tertiary education curriculum. Meanwhile, peasantry are taught proper methods of agriculture, and are encouraged to cultivate high-yield yet low-maintenance crops (such as sweet potatoes, soy, and maize) brought upon by the Columbian Exchange in land unsuitable for the cultivation of rice or wheat; vastly boosting agricultural productivity and the food supply. Korean settlers are dispatched to Manchuria to help the exploitation of its rich earth, whilst cementing Korea's claim on the formerly Manchu lands. The forced conversions of many Hui continue, in order to purge the remnants of Tali and deprive any royalist movements of support. Content over the partition of Siam into three, the Emperor ends vassalage over Siam and lets the Siamese rump state govern its own internal affairs. With the Bengal Sultanate refusing to grant independence to Ahom, Pegu, and Bhutan, financial support is given to independence movements within those respective polities to weaken already tenuous Bengali grip. A second diplomatic expedition is sent to the Bengal capital instead offering that they submit under the tributary system, as its neighbours had, in-exchange for the recognition of Bengali territorial integrity.
    • Yakutia: With the nascent state being vigorously populated, settlers are encouraged to adopt a sedentary agrarian lifestyle, renouncing their lives as semi-nomadic herders. Wheat is cultivated as the primary grain, helping to reduce reliance on grain imports from Korea–China. However, a significant aquaculture cultivating seaweeds and breeding fish develops. The Khan and the Sakhan Church of the East welcomes financial support from both Korea–China and the Papal States.
    • Karnad Offer: We will support Korea-China in case of war with Bengal in exchange of the vassalization of Bengal and Ahom as it is difficult for the troops of Korea-China to cross the Himalayas.
  • Bengal Dip: We are quite certain that our grip over our new provinces are not tenuous at all but quite the oppposite of that. But we shall think about your offer although it seems quite difficult to cross a wall of mountains when it comes to both of our sides and would limit contact.
  • Sinkyone: Our first city Arqortoqe the population gets bigger because of farming there is more time and because of this the first crafts come around like (name) and also the population grow a decent amount. Ikadal also get a bigger population with people from some nearby tribes coming to the citty and its wealth. Also Elks are getting slightly bigger. Also because this
  • Karnad Empire: Hamid Khan dies and Ganpathi Raju is chosen as his successor. The nation has 15% Muslims and 85% Hindus. The court has 50 ministers of which only 15 are Muslims. Ganpathi Raju is an absolute ruler and all power is vested in him. The Hindus and Muslims live in perfect harmony. Impressed by the Iberian fleet and their vessels the navy decides to adopt and test some of the Iberian designs. Trade with Korea-China improves and gifts are sent to the Emperor. More and more manufactories and foundries are built for the production of artillery and gunpowder. Calibres are standardised as the army gets better organised. Our population stands at 30 million.
A large plantation is built in Olungu with European influences. Akida passes through the Gibraltar again and stops at the Iberian court, where he hears of the news of Mozambique Island.
    • Swahili Dip to Iberia: Swahili would be willing to rent parts of the island of Mozambique for a consulate and trade post of Iberia for a fair price.
  • African Sultanate of the Maghreb:  Sultan Hamish Al Farrok takes power begins to work on modernizing the army by requesting men from 17-36 to train in the army, as the navy is improved on to defend trading ships.Urban centers begin to grow as trading centers and means of living begin to spread mostly in cities on the coast, Madarases are made to teach people in religion, science, and many more things. We send Muslims missionaries to Angola. Coastal cities are made into a hub of trading to help rise the pop, as the city of El-Anaiun is made a trade center for African goldThe Sultan begins to open up arms factories mostly in Rabat to improve the economy. The Navy is worked on as Rabat as it is turned into a naval powerhouse. The Sultanate begin to work on mass producing Arms and begin to copy European way of growing food. We send trade envoys, along with sending Imams to spread Islam in West Africa and to South Africa mostly in Benin to win them over. With the spread of Islam in Africa we send imams to help convert them faster, as we send some of their high imams to Rabat to study about Islam.  We begin to work on creating roads to ease trade routes. The Sultanate begin to expand into the Atlantic coast line by 15 px. The city Algiers is made the capital of the Sultanate as its population grows,The 2nd biggest city is Rabat as Naval troops being to start families in the area. The Sultan begins to works on cities by opening markets and trading centers mostly at Algiers. The spread of Islam in Zaire is less about shoving it down people belief but more of gaining trust of people by giving out food and things like that, after gaining trust of people we begin to spread Islam into Ziyi (Kongo). . Our ships are sent to trade with Zaire, Mali and tiny west African states. Newly added region is improved on by working on roads that ease trade and troops movement into the new region. The regions of the Maghreb that can worked on for land to be used as food is worked on as the Sultan works on a nine-year plan to pick up the Sultanate population this is started as farmers from inland are sent to areas that are fertile land.
    • Tajammad Emirate: The Emirate works on preparing for the cold seasons by collecting firewood during the summer. Walls and Houses are reworked on to defend the "Ansari" from animals. Hunting parties are sent to hunt down animals and eat them, while some are killed for their winter fur. A mosque is made called Al Hawqk and is made in hope of rivaling other Mashjids. Haush land is given to Tajamidan people to rule these areas are called "Forts". New World food is sent back home to be traded. Our ships begin to train on how to sail the rocky seas to reach the Pacific Ocean and study the ways to the Pacific Ocean. Due to the way of the New World women are given more physically as in helping create the wall or guarding areas. The port (not the best or biggest) of Tajammad is re-made along with ocean defense walls and gun ports made along with 50 cannons. The population stands at 19,720 people with a slow rise in pop. The Ona state is annexed into the Emirate and Ona majority areas are put under an Ona that accepted Islam named Hassan al Badr but some question his loyalty and if he converted just to gain power, Islam with the Ona people slowly rise but is still a tiny percent in the Ona Population. Seeing the killing of Tajjamdians the State begins to hold up strong military view as the Emir begins to arm more colonist.
    • Sultanate of Bajani: The Colony is dismantled and is sent home to be remade in Port Nelson. The Sultanate copies the use of the Tajammad 000000Emirate  The Emirate works on preparing for the cold seasons00000-made along with ocean defense walls and gun ports made along with 20 cannons. A group of 20,000 men and women are sent to set up base as Nasser Hakim is picked

The Emir raises up to 8000 troops as Accra is made the capital.00 Attempts are made to rebuild the nation as imams are sent to convert the natives but first start by gaing trust and helping the natives. The Sultan begins to work on mining of gold to help improve the Emirate's economy fish is found then traded/sold to the Maghreb and Zaire.

1654

French Jews begin considering founding a new home in Africa.

The Pope will die in 1656. Iberia, Cologne, Prussia, Papal States, England, France, and Burgundy can vote here .

Many pirates become active in the Caribbean and Atlantic.

Sebastien of Sicily dies and the Council elects an Iberian successor. (General, you can pick the guy.)

Many people outside Venice believe they would be better suited if their lands were in the hands of the Pope, like the other northern Italian people.

Many other tribes around OTL California, British Columbia, and Washington begin developing permenant settlements and villiages copying the technology of Sinkyone.

All of Southern Arcadia (OTL Central America) except the islands, Baja/Southern California and parts of northern Mexica near OTL Texas all stay loyal to Maiam as part of a unified culture. The rest stay loyal to Iberia due to their majority Spanish population (must use an algo to reconquor).

The Sultanate of Zayiyr (Kongo) expands south towards Angola.

A grand mass is held on Easter Sunday in Naples among leaders of the Pietist  movment, with such ecstasy that passerbys considered it to be the angels themselves singing.

  • Great Iberia: After a decisive battle at Bogotá, the Maipure-Muisca rebels are utterly crushed and the survivors scattered into the countryside. Aquiminzaque II is captured and brought into Bogotá to be executed; however, in an act of mercy in sight of the Papacy (to whom criticism has been raised about Iberian treatment of the Indians), he is decidedly released and allowed to rule over his remaining native lands as an Iberian subject (vassal). Official reports of this kindness are exaggerated to gain the favor of the Pope as well as the natives. The army in Nova Lusitânia is reduced to 8000 Iberian troops and 2000 native loyalists, all of which are transported to Maiam to fight the Mayan rebels. 1000 troops remain in Nova Lusitânia to prevent another uprising. Damián Agramonte rallies another 1000 troops from the northern colonies and proceeds south into Maiam, laying siege to Mexico City. An additional 3446 troops join Agramonte's campaign, mostly contributions from colonial militias. Maiam's coast is blockaded by a joint Iberian-Burgundian fleet. The army in Yucatan continues its advance, fighting several battles near Mayapán. Afonso de Braganza is elected Prince-General of Sicily. Dário de Guimarães travels to Benin to train the Beninese army. With the influx of slaves from Benin, Fernando Pó now accounts for a large percentage of Iberia's total sugar output.
  • Bengal Sultanate: Bengal begins to pay tribute to the Chinese as a form of mutual respect and many people in the nation in Bhutanthrough Burma's untrust to the chinese have changed slightly as the people of these regions are left alone. Burma hopes to repatch up the relations with China with the Sultan meeting up with the Chinese to discuss diplomatic relations and pay respect to their neighbor. Since the crisis has resolved, people have gone back to their everyday lives with marketplaces that were closed for weeks being reopened and towns that were once scarcely populated become bustling areas for certain regions. The Wall of Bengal near Aryavarta's border has continued in construction. The Freeway is planned to be finished next year and festivals plus celebrations will be held for the event. The PTS Teavana is beached during a powerful cyclone that hit a sparsely populated area of the nation this year but the ship itself seems undamaged and a project to save the ship has begun. Expeditions to the island of Borneo have begun and is lead by 80 ships with 16,000 men to see what might be found and if there is a civilization already there. The population in the nation reaches 33 million and continues to grow. 24,000 people this year are recruited into the militairy. The University of Bengal has become the best University in Southern Asia. Many cities continue to grow in the nation and Mas Ubai, the new capitol, becomes a trading hotspot. later on this year, the Sultan plans to go town to town to visit people and ask questions on what would they like to see be done for the nation as some form of democracy. Trade in the mediteranian increases significantly and trade in the Indian Ocean also grows with on average 30 merchant ships being built every year to be used for trade. The construction for a variety of projects continue and the hope of avoiding war has paid off and will hopefully benefit both nation's in due time.
  • Russia: We continue to expand 40 px east in Siberia and 20 px south towards Yakutia. With the fur trade producing large quantity's of fur, we offer trade deals to Scandinavia, England, Prussia (any german states really), and Belka.(Anyone willing to buy respond) We continue to try to build up Markovgrad and North Shore as our Pacific Ports. With 450,000 men we invade Kiev strking from Minsk and pushing towards Kiev in an attempted lightning advance. Meanwhile the entire fleet is shipped to Port Alexander in the hopes that it wont be caught in the cross fire.
  • Papal States: The Pietist movement's ability to increase, well, piety, is greatly lauded by the Church hierarchy, and the Dicastery for Pietism increases its connexions amongst the movement, helping them with university resources. Iberia's mercy towards the leaders of the Maipure rebels does gain the Pope's favour. His Holiness does send a special investogator to the territory to investigate the alleged atrocities. The investogator is, in fact, a priest on long-term exchange from Korea, so has no particular biases either way. Hearing of the increase in piracy in the Caribbean and Atlantic prompts the Pope to write to the Hospitallers. Seeing as the Adelphinian Order has relieved them of the actual costs and work of administrating their territories in North America, the order could consider spending its time fighting this new scourge [Mod response for Hospitallers please] the idea of Venice's former territory joining the Papacy is not discouraged by the government, who secretly gives the proponents of such views access to printing presses etc.
  • Great Union of Korea and China: The government continues the endorsement of neo–Confucianism as the national philosophy, but the Emperor maintains a heterodox stance; allowing the proliferation of new branches offering new reinterpretations of Confucius' teachings. The Emperor begins adopting a heavily statist internal policy, promoting the goal of the pragmatic consolidation of the state's military and economic powers. Due to its emerging status as a prominent subsistence crop owing to cheap cultivation and high-yield, New World crops such as sweet potatoes and maize become symbolic representations of a reinvigorated peasant class, and ironically, an upcoming zenith period for Korea–China. With the fourth year of the five-year reconstruction campaign being completed, much of southern China's grandeur state has been restored, with the situation largely stabilized. To stimulate further economic recovery, paid wages are heightened, allowing households to purchase more basic necessities (with subsidized prices) as well as to indulge in luxury consumption, eventually resulting in a positive-feedback loop. With Bengal submitting as a tributary state, the government withdraws financial support from independence movements within its fringe and peripheral provinces. The Emperor formally declares the recognition of the Bengal Sultanate as a legitimate polity, and thereby respects its territorial integrity. He also accepts gifts from the Karnad Empire, but politely rejects the offer as the animosities between Korea–China and Bengal have ceased.
However, a significant aquaculture develops. The Khan and the Sakhan Church of the East welcomes financial support from both Korea–China and the Papal States.
  • The Maipure move southeast away from Iberian territory, eager to avoid further disagreement with their new sovereign. Aquiminzaque II leads them to an area between the upper Purus and Jurua rivers, tributaries of the Amazon, and well to the south of Nova Lusitania. With the area devastated by smallpox, the Maipure - who now incorporate escaped slaves, members of the Maipure and Muisca tribes, and a number of Europeans, most of whom are either priests or criminals - have plenty of space. Many fear the re-imposition of the encomienda system and landlord-based exploitation, leading Aquiminzaque to prohibit slavery and decree that land will be held communally. Much of the land was already semi-cultivated, in a form of agro-forestry, before the tribes that formerly occupied it were afflicted by disease, and the Maipure are able to easily take up the management of the areas' forests. Aquiminzaque sets up his capital on the Purus, constructing a stockade and setting up a smithery to produce metal tools and weaponry. Several of his men, who had experience mining iron under the Iberians, identify nearby potential iron mines which he plans to begin exploiting next year. A mission and church is also constructed, and the Maipure - who, even more isolated than before, have heard only vague rumours of the Pope's intercession on their behalf, but are nonetheless grateful - name the town "San Zacarias".
    • Iberian Diplomacy: As Iberia's vassal and ally, the Maipure are asked to contribute their most able warriors to be used as auxiliaries in the war against the Maya.
    • 2000 Maipure warriors are sent to act as auxiliaries, although it is asked that the Iberians equip them with modern weapons and firearms.
  • Karnad Empire: We forge better relations with Bengal. With a greater focus on maritime trade, we start the development of the port cities on the Malabar Coast namely Kannur, Vizhinjam and Mangalore. Cultivation increases as more land is cleared. Urban agglomerations emerge in the middle of rural hinterlands. Docks are built in Mangalore and trading ships are being built. Ganpathi Raju consolidates his rule and a large temple dedicated to Ganesha is built in Mangalore. the population of Mangalore increases. Some Iberian designs are adopted including the techniques to strengthen the sails. Royal grants are given for the opening up of Universities. We request for a trading pact with Bengal, the Great Union of Korea and China, Siam, and England as well as France. (PLAYER RESPONSE). The Gold mines in Kollar are expanded as large amounts of Gold are discovered in Kollar.
    • Korea–China: The Emperor politely rejects the offer, and maintains special trading agreements with only Burgundy and Tondo.
  • Kingdom of Burgundy: New Netherlands expands 50 px west. Nova Belgica expands 50 px into the interior. Maryland expands 50 px north. With experiences in the naval operations of the most current war with England having validated the new, larger, and more heavily armed ships of the line, the order is given to increase construction, with a directive calling for a core of at least seventy-five ships of the line in each of Burgundys two primary battle fleets. Meanwhile, in the wake of the war with France, the anti-French radicals are able to muster enough support to pass the Prohibitive Act, which outlaws the use of the French language in government, administration, or business. Frans Jozef vun Bourgogne, Duke of Guise and Regent of Burgundy, is tempted to veto the Act, but seeing the wide support it has from the Dutch and Old Burgundian nobility and commoners, decides the Act is the lesser evil compared to a government crisis, and signs it. The exception allowed by the Act is the Burgundian dialect, which has become increasingly Germanized by Burgundys close involvement in Holy Roman Imperial politics and trade. In New Netherlands the influx of new colonists as well as refugees from English occupied lands, has caused New Amsterdam to become the largest city in Arcadia outside of Maiam. The Burgundian navy sends several squadrons of warships to assist Iberia in the blockade of Maiam
The Tsardom itself still continues attempting to urbanize some of its other cities specifically Sofiya, Tarnovo, and Oured hoping of matching the huge urban rate of Vasiligrad. The Tsar continues growing older and begins thinking about the transfer of power to his son. His son Constantine now 18 also prepares himself for rulership.
  • France: Rumor is spread in the colonies that the wandering Jew is in Amazonia. So hunting parties go out looking for him. The war is over and there is a great amount of joy at the end of this long and painful conflict as well as France making more terrortial gains. Colonial expansion resumes with French Antarctique, under command of a governor general appointed by the King, experiences prosperity and growth with the harvesting of Brazilwood. It expands down the coast into southern Brazil. New Valois continues to experience its prosperity involving sugar under the Royal French East India Company. It continues expanding into its Captaincies including the Royal Captaincy and capital of New Alençon, the Fugger Captaincy, the Welser Captaincy, and the Orange Captaincy. African Indentured servants continue to be brought into New Valois for increased sugar cane production. The mining of silver in New Valois continues with silver being shipped to the East Indies, China, and India for trade. The french propose to the English crown a tax on goods passing through the Straits of Dover in the form of the a 20% tax on all goods passing through with the tax split between England and France with french, English ships being exempted and nations who request for exemption and are approved with the tax being placed on all other traffic crossing the straits of Dover. A small fleet of around ten ships is moved to Calais to patrol the straits with the English.
    • 'Maian' Dip: The Maian diplomat to France hopes to gain the King's favor so that he will hear the plight of the Maian people. The diplomat mentions Maiam's natural riches, and that the Emperor is willing to consider marraige proposals for his heirs and other children.
  • Kingdom of England, Ireland and Scotland: We agree to the french proposal. The King dies this year in his late 50s and is succeeded by his son Edward VI, the problem occurs that Edward's son was killed fighting in Belgium against the Burgundian's leaving him with no male heirs and his younger brother has proven barren, their sister is married to an Irish lord Ciaran O'Kennedy and they have a son Rónán O'Kennedy who is 25 and has returned from fighting in Europe where he did alright fighting in all three major battles. He is now the heir apparent to the throne and after Edward VI tries to go on a brief tour of England he dies and Rónán is next in line to the throne. Although there is some initial confusion Rónán secures the capital with a contingent of Irish troops quickly and the country has no appetite for another war even though there are questions about Rónán's fitness for the throne. His English was learned late in life and his grasp of french and Latin is almost non- existent having been raised by the Gaelic and only having started learning any while bedding french women in France. There is concern at this King's lack of education but his reputation as a fierce warrior and a tough person balances out his other issues. He remains unmarried due to the war but accedes to the throne as Robert III, King of England, Ireland and Scotland. The King is open to marriage offers. With his accession to the throne and the war over he appoints George Osborne as his chief treasurer to oversee the raising of taxes with a big review in all of Briton about income tax, tariffs and the now included tax at Dover. There is a continued migration to Arcadia encouraged here and in Europe. Arcadia is told to get on with building forts. England has 5.4 million people, Wales has 0.5 million Ireland has 1.6 million people and Scotland one million people. The training of a 15,000 strong peacetime army continues as the men are trained with muskets and cannons. The navy contuines to be reformed with more ships of the line being produced.
    • Maian Dip: The Maian diplomat to England imlores the King to hear the Maian cause. The diplomat also notes that Maiam is home to many riches of the New World, and that the Emperor is willing to consider marraige proposals for his heirs and other children.
A envoy is sent to Benin to reduce Oyo to a trading post and sell some naval technology in return of not attacking Mali
    • Oyo Emirate: The new Emirate is put under the rule of a Muslim named Ridwan Amjad he halts the use of jiyzah but does wor0000k on trading with zaire. The Emir raises up to 8000 troops as Accra is made the capital. Attempts are made to rebuild the nation as imams are sent to convert the natives but first start by gaing trust and helping the natives. The Sultan begins to work on mining of gold to help improve the Emirate's economy fish is found then traded/sold to the Maghreb and Zaire.
    • Iberian Diplomacy: Maghreb is asked to renounce its possessions on the Gold Coast, except for the port of Accra, which can remain a trading post.
  • Maiam: Maiam continues its revolution against the Iberian tyrants. Maian soldiers continue to resist Iberian invaders. Messengers and rebels are sent into neighboring Iberian territory to stir revolts, decrying the Iberian's strangle hold of the colonies. More ports are seized and Iberian vessels commissioned into the already growing Maian fleet. Messengers are sent to nearby Mecicipi and Amazonia to encourage them to take up arms as well. Dipomats continue to advocate for the Maian cause in European nations. Maiam, seeking to become more self-reliant, continues building its own navy and armories.
    • Belkan Secret Dip: Seeing instability in the gold and silver trade due to the recent wars and such, the Tsar Kaloyan and his son Constantine both agree to entertain Maiam envoys which can directly plead the case of Maiam to main force which would be sent to the New World. If a deal is concluded Belka can act as liason as well as help facilitate the monopoly of the precious metals trade from the New World to Europe.
    • Maian Secret Dip: Maiam agrees to the terms, as long as Belkan ships are used to to transport and escort trade due to the current conflict.

1655

Outside of the Maiam revolt, Iberian hold of their colonies improves with the emancipation of Native slavary.

Many common people begin to dislike the Bengal Sultan who forces them to build such a huge wall. In light of this, the nobility postulates to the Sultan if he could work to transition to an elected monarchy, as the nations of the Rashidun, Iran, and Aryavarta have already done.

The Duke of Brunswick is interested in buying Russian furs.

The Knights Hospitaller declare war on piracy (you know it had to happen).

A cranky, old, reddish man covered in hair and little clothes appears in Marseilles, expressing his severe doubt that the Wandering Jew is in Arcadia.

John English, son of Henry English, resurfaces and sails to England with 100 men he hired at a pub and calls "all true Englishmen" to arms. He is received warmly and many people join his "army", but they are not serious about a war. However, he remains a threat as there are some English lords who seeks to manipulate John to depose the Irish king.

The sheer amount of troops involved in the Kiev campaign once again showcases to europe the inability of the logistics to handle hundreds of thousands of troops regardless of the advances. With disease rampant, and supply shortages chronic even the frontline troops and their officers demand a change into the more manageable line infatry being employed by the Belkans and Italians. (only 150,000 Russian troops can participate in battle at any one time now during the Kiev campaign)

  • Great Iberia: The Maipure are thanked for their contribution to the army. The 2000 Maipure auxiliaries are equipped with muskets and transported to Maiam. Iberian forces continue their advance through Yucatán, meeting a sizable Maian force at Tinun and defeating them with moderate casualties to both sides. The army then advances into Tabasco, attacking the Maian forces near Macuspana. Damián Agramonte is unable to take Mexico City and breaks the siege, opting instead to cause as much damage Maiam's infrastructure as possible while retreating to Nova Galiza. Iberian forces utilize a similar tactic in Yucatán, using Maiam's resources to supply their own army and afterwards destroying Maian farmland with the intent to starve out the rebels. The blockade of Maiam continues with about 18 ships participating. Mêcicipi remains extremely loyal to Iberia, mostly due to fears of a Maian invasion. With access to both the Pacific and Atlantic, Nova Lusitânia develops as the center of Iberian colonies in the New World. Panama, Bogotá, and Cartagena are its most important cities. Facing numerous pirate attacks, the Italian engineer Gherardo Barbachollo is employed to bolster Cartagena's defenses and turn it into a walled city. The French side of Rio Guayas in OTL Ecuador is de facto administered by Nova Lusitânia due to the majority of Spaniard settlers there. Capture of native slaves is nominally abolished in Nova Lusitânia, but the slave trade itself is allowed to continue. Capture or sale of Maipure or Muisca people, however, is strictly prohibited, leading many natives to adopt the Maipure language and even migrate to Maipure territory to avoid enslavement. Maranhão expands inland to São Atto. Settlement of Trinidad continues, and the first African slaves are brought to the island. With the arrival of more settlers, Benguela expands inland significantly, increasing friction with the bordering Ndongo (Angola) kingdom. A fort begins is constructed in Cochin to protect Iberia's commercial interests. The Tondo galleon trade grinds to a halt due to the Maian war.
    • Iberian Diplomacy to Zayiyr/Kongo: Portugal offers to help Kongo conquer Angola if they are given control of the Angolan coast up to OTL Ambriz. (Mod Response)
    • Burgundian Dip: In an effort to bring about the end of the war faster, 15,000 men from the Kuban and Guyanan Colonial Guards are sent to reinforce the Iberian army fighting in Maiam.
  • Malaya: We continue trade of goods to Europe, as well as being a market for goods coming into Asia. The Royal Navy is expanded with two cruisers added to the fleet. The military is also expanded to include more active personnel as well as reserves.
  • Cologne: Archbishop Wulfrich continues to run a stable Cologne, recovering from the economic crises of the 1640s and the Burgundy-England war much more effectively than any of the countries actually involved in the war. However, certain trade into those areas still suffers somewhat. Meanwhile, the archbishop informs the Pope that he has investigated these ‘Northern-Latin’ groups and cracked down on them with the Holy German Tribunal, especially if they showed signs of “Protestantism” from Scandinavia. This has gone quite well, however, given that ‘Northern-Latin’ groups are simply the basic hybrid version of German Catholics, and so far they appear to be satisfactory according to the principles of unity advocated by the Imperial Synod of Germany. Archbishop Wulfrich goes so far as to write an article in the German Paper about this hybrid “German Church” according well with the principles of unity endorsed by the Imperial Synod. The militia, the universities, the education system, and the league of Westphalia meetings continue as per normal. A café is built in central Cologne, much to the confusion of the Archbishop, who investigates it and then begins to delight in the cultural mingling that occurs at such venues. Accordingly, he encourages the café by endorsing its culture in some of his speeches for the year. Finally, he looks into the science of fragrances (especially given the amazing fragrances wafting out of the café and past the window of the cathedral, as baroque music plays from an unidentified source in the city) as he continues to fund scientific research in both the Universities of Essen and Cologne.
    • Essen: Abbess-General Isengard hears that the King of England is looking for a wife and, given the good relationship Adelphinian Canonesses have fostered with English Arcadia, offers secular-canoness Lena of Munster’s hand in marriage. (Secular canonesses do not take vows of chastity, come from local noble families, and go to the abbey to become intelligent, well-rounded young women prior to their eventual marriage.) (England, please respond) Canonesses from around the world (Tondo, Japan, Arcadia) continue scientific studies at the University of Essen. Bursaries continue to be given to young women from northern HRE states (Northern OTL Germany) in order to encourage them to become more enlightened about equality within the church and unity of the church within German lands. Meanwhile in Hospitaller Arcadia, Adelphinian Canonesses are excited to hear that the war has ended, and work to rebuild the relevant parts of the land. Meanwhile, they are doubly as excited to further serve the interests of Catholicism in the New World, to help the people there and increase general enlightenment, health and education, so they take great pains to run the government in Hospitaller colonies as well as possible, immediately taking measures to combat potential bankruptcy – first of all, they do not continue to expand while they have no funds. That would be illogical. They also ask the University of Essen for some help in organising the proper structure of a government made to be stable and to last for a long time with the help of the Adelphinian Order, and Essenian Canonesses and academics begin arriving at the end of the year to help prepare potential documents of organisation. Furthermore, the canonesses accept the financial assistance from the Papal States with great gratitude and use it to help build a stable government while using their original funds to continue administering to the sick, assisting with farms and creating a rudimentary Seminole-centric education system, especially given the new involvement of Seminole people in Hospitaller Arcadia. Finally, canonesses opt to not take part in the war against piracy themselves, offering simply to run the home front while the Hospitallers act militarily, as required in the agreement of 1649. Meanwhile in Tondo, the Adelphinian Canonesses continue to spread through wider Tondo (OTL Phillippines) at a very slow pace, with the consent of Korea-China, building small schools and infirmaries as they go. Thanks to the leadership of the new Tondoese Abbess, the people are very accepting of the few remaining European canonesses (the very old ones) and many young men and women join the Adelphinian Order.
      • Scandinavian diplomacy: We call the cracking down on Protestant churches within Northern Germany as heresy and condemn the Archbishop of Cologne and Abbess of Essen as HERETICS! Pietist and Catholic publishings are forbidden in response and more funding goes to the Protestants of Northern Germany.
      • (OOC Cologne: Okay so 1. how exactly are you "funding" Protestants? Give me something solid to work with. 2. The new religious people in Northern Germany are "Northern-Latin Rite", not Protestant? Please refer me to somewhere that says they're actually protestant. 3. How exactly are Protestants different from the Northern Rite? Thanks.)
  • Sinkyone: We Invented the wheel in Arqortoqe. We Also grow Ikadal to the north side of the river. Also the First cities grow Arqortoqe grows to 5000 people. • Tsardom of Belka: Tsar Kaloyan dies and is succeeded by his son Konstantin who adopts the Jugoslavic spelling and pronunciation rather than the greek. His mother having proven to be a powerful advisor to him is appointed as a close financial and diplomatic advisor to the Tsar who immediately is forced to assess a situation that was previously left in the dark by his father. Belka has hardly any of its former gold reserves left, and only recently has truly emerged from the crushing parts of debt that it took upon itself during the Great Turkish War. Due to this Belkas bullion reserves are now made public to be much lower than usual and only recently have they begun to refill. With the disruption of the gold and silver trade from the New World and the caliphate in the last 30 years Europe looks to have saddled itself with yet another bullion crisis which sadly Belka remains a part of. However with a much larger navy and having effectively removed its only major competitor from its region of the med sea which leaves his nation in a commanding position in Eastern Europe. Being the progenitor of the current military tactics of europe, Belka offer lease out officers to other nations as advisors specifically Russia and Scandinavia. The issue of the Maiam which was addressed by now dead Tsar Kaloyan and his his own assessment as well, is brought up once again as the envoys are brought into the court and are granted an escorted gift of nearly 20,000 of the Bayonetted muskets, some cannons, as well as nearly 150 volunteer officers who offer to spend the next few years within Maiam to train the Maiam forces into a professional military force. This secret agreement is signed with the envoys and with the promises of beginning a monopoly on precious metals as well as a huge market and reverse for the Maiam as well, begins sending staggered convoys out from Belka which are put along side trade ships going all over europe essentially covering the ships until they are untraceable in the atlantic. Each convoy consists of about five large trade ships and three escorts all carrying a large amount of munitions, supplies, or other equipment to Maiam in the south of the country which they still hold.

  • Scandinavian Empire: Development happens around the capital Riksdale, as well as in Oslo, Stockholm, Copenhagen, Oldenburg and Visby. We accept the generous offer of the Belkans and offer profitable rates on fur from our colonies in return. King Kettil sends an emissary to Russia, to discuss matters of trade with our esteemed neighbours, letting Russians ships pass by Copenhagen, in return for favourable rates of our merchandise in Russian ports on the Baltic and an outpost of the Scandinavian Bank of St. Birgitta in Riga. (PLAYER response)
    • Russia: We agree to this.
    • Papal Dip: The Secretary for Foreign Relations reiterates to Scandinavia's ambassador that he believes that there has been a misunderstanding, and that the proposal was only meant to relate to previously-Catholic-controlled Scandinavian territories, not the 'core territories' of the Scandinavian peninsula.
  • Kingdom of England, Ireland and Scotland: We agree to the french proposal. From the ports of Liverpool, Bristol and Dublin ships are sent quietly to the Maiam rebels to deliver muskets, cannons, horses and advisers this is to weaken the Iberian hold in the colonies but little formal announcement is made to stop from aggravating Iberia excessively. Robert O'Kennedy attempts to make up for his obvious weakness by studying English, Latin and French heavily as well as speak with more of an English accent bu this Gaelic origins are still pronounced. The Royal army is sent to parade through wherever John English is and troop the real King's colours. To appease the nobles a number of the southern nobles are granted lands in the new held areas of English Arcadia with money to be made in furs, tobacco and sugars for their own revenue without them having to be there to govern it giving them an almost worry free source of revenue. In an attempt to counter the growing piracy issue in the Atlantic and the Caribbean letters of marque are issued to saturate the mark with English pirates. Envoys are sent to China with gifts in hope of equal trading to Burgundy, these are gifts of virgins and eunuchs from all around the world, gold, sugar, tobacco and other rare things to impress the Emperor. England has 5.4 million people, Wales has 0.5 million Ireland has 1.6 million people and Scotland one million people. • The population of Maipure continues to increase, both with migrants from colonial territories avoiding enslavement and the remnants of disease-devastated tribes seeking aid and the support of a strong political authority. Maipure warriors are sent to reestablish order in these territories; having already been struck by disease many times, living closer to Europeans, Aquiminzaque has little fear of renewed epidemics. Many of these survivors are resettled along the Purus river as the Maipure expand southward the maximal amount. At San Zacarias, the capital, forges are set up by those who have experience with blacksmithing, and the production of metal tools and weaponry begins, with nearby iron mines also being exploited. Meanwhile, the small group of European priests in the area seeks to place the Maipure's allegiance to Christianity on a firmer footing by translating the Bible into Maipure (for which they adapt the Latin alphabet), seeking the aid of Maipure shamans, who are retrained as priests. Although some are concerned about the growing degree of syncretism developing between Christianity and Maipure traditionalist beliefs, they ultimately prioritize retaining religious appeal over orthodoxy, even avoiding translating the Old Testament, which the Maipure seem to dislike the harshness of, entirely. • Maiam: Maiam continues its revolution against the Iberian tyrants. Maian soldiers continue to resist Iberian invaders, with contributions from England and Belka quickly incorporated into the Maian army. Messengers and rebels are sent into neighboring Iberian territory to stir revolts, decrying the Iberian's strangle hold of the colonies. Dipomats continue to advocate for the Maian cause in European nations, especially France. Maiam, seeking to become more self-reliant, continues building its own navy and armories.

1656

The war between Iberia and Maiam continues however with with divided loyalties or just pure uninvolvement, millions of people are caught in the middle between the opposing forces which makes fighting the war between the two much more complicated as they are forced to work around neutral civilians.

The European economy slowly begins to recover following nearly 25 years of war draining the economies of the most major powers. The interrupted flow of Bullion from the New World though has once again cause a crisis as the only stable sources remain from a Distant Caliphate and a France that cant support the amount needed for even its own bullion needs.

Piracy in the new world begins to pick up at many privateers and other fortune seekers begin to plunder the trade routes from the new world to the old world. While not significant the annoyance prompts a response from English, French, and Burgundian patrols who are soundly defeated by what is referred only as "The Ghost Ship". This strikes fear into the hearts of almost all sailors in the region.

The Mapuche annex the southern most state of the remaining nations of the Qulla confederation while also conquering south along the coast of Chile.

The Bengali Colony in Borneo is found to be lost with all hands following a return expedition. The potential candidates for the loss are natives of Kutai, the Caliphate, or the French all of which prompt the Bengalis who lost money on the expedition to appeal to their ruler for quick and decisive action. This however does impact a distinct dislike for expensive colonial ventures in Bengal seeing it as uncessary with so much domestic product to market.

The "50 year Historum" is published in Prussia chronicling the wars and military actions which have marked the first half of the 1600's highlighting the multiple anglo-burgundian conflicts, the Great Turkish war, as well as the still ongoing Russian subjugation of Kiev.

A powerful band of pirates meet with the Knights Hospitaller on their island and strike a deal to seize control of transatlantic travel, specifically Maghreb ships. The Knights sanction all pirate activity against the Maghreb in exchange for a small percentage of the pirate's loot, which is still sizable. They justify this as protecting the waters of God from heathens. Deus vult infidels.

A group of English nobles convince Johnny English to meet with them. They then capture him and arrest his men in the name of the king. Johnny is surrendered to the authority of the king and privately he admits he is an impostor. He warns that the real John is coming. Meanwhile, his "army", disappointed that they did not get to fight a war, turn to banditry in the English countryside.

Seeing the rise of a "water crusade" the use of decoy ships and gunboat protections is use in the New World.

The Ona state is annexed into the Emirate and Ona majority areas are put under an Ona that accepted Islam named Hassan al Badr but some question his loyalty and if he converted just to gain power, Islam with the Ona people slowly rise but is still a tiny 8% percent in the Ona Population as the Ona state is named the Ona Bukrain. Seeing the killing of Tajjamdians the State begins to hold up strong military view as the Emir begins to arm more colonist.
    • Sultanate of Bajani: The Colony is dismantled and is sent home to be remade in Port Nelson. The Sultanate copies the use of the Tajammad Emirate  The Emirate works on preparing for the cold seasons-made along with ocean defense walls and gun ports made along with 20 cannons. • Oyo Emirate: The new Emirate is put under the rule of a Muslim named Ridwan Amjad he halts the use of jiyzah but does work on trading with zaire.
    • Mahgreb Dip to Ziyir: A envoy is sent to them to train there army with adviors and a request is sent to set up trade ports (MOD)
    • Rashidun Dip (to Benin): On behalf of Maghreb, we wish to reduce the Oyo emirate to a port colony and offer large amounts of Abbasid arms and shiprights in exchange for maintaining peace with your neighbors for the next generation.
  • Tsardom of Belka: The supply shipments to Maiam continue as does the fleet complement to be sent that direction. A Belkan envoy approaches the English offering to open up further trade as well as the establishment of a friendly Western European state. While this is underway the Tsardom continues to drill and keep its army in top shape in preparation for any future conflicts. The Tsardom begins to embark on a program of heavily modernizing its shipyards in the older cities in Vasiligrad, Athens, Konstanta, and Kaloyagrad in an attempt to bring them up to par with the newer port facilities around the Adriatic coast. The development of the port systems is linked heavily to Belkas expanding trade, as well as its new found focus on the navy which begins to gain much of the funding which was directed towards the old 250,000 strong imperial army. With such a force being redundant, the Navy is turned into ships of the line rather than the Galleys and modern Galeasses of the usual Medditerrenean navy. This is done specifically to try to counter the ship of the line fleets most Western European nations and even the Russians have developed. These designs are implemented quickly specifically as a counter to the navally inclined nations of the west. The development of new tactics for the navy also results in the birth of Belkas anti-piracy intent as it begins to deploy squadrons of 5-7 ships along its trade routes to try to counter piracy. These ships consisting of the Eastern Med fleet are 150 ships spread along the trade routes and coastal regions affirming Belkas supremacy in the naval regions. The last fleet of nearly 150 ships is split between the 75 strong Home Fleet and the 75 Strong Black sea fleet which stand for their obvious objectives. The Tsar continues previous programs of rectifying the woeful financial situation at home in many cases taking troops to personally hunt down those who owe money to the crown in turn so Belka can repay its creditors without having to dig further into the Imperial treasury. The Tsar does however begin looking for opportunities to increase his own martial legitimacy among the Generals and Nobles which operate with the Army beginning to look for a fight to prove himself.
  • Kingdom of England, Ireland and Scotland: George Osborne continues as the chief treasurer to oversee the raising of taxes with a big review in all of Briton about income tax, tariffs and the now included tax at Dover. This taxation keeps England afloat but with a bullion shortage due to fighting in Americas not everything is perfect. There is a continued migration to Arcadia encouraged here and in Europe. From the ports of Liverpool, Bristol and Dublin ships are sent quietly to the Maiam rebels to deliver muskets, cannons, horses and advisers. Robert O'Kennedy continues to learn English, Latin and French but slow progress. A new reform is made to the army with of the 15,000 man standing army there are ten English and welsh regiments, three Irish regiments and two Scottish regiments which are full time with the option of Parliament approving raising more troops. These troops are largely divided into line infantry, light cavalry, heavy cavalry and artillery. Five of the regiments are based in Britain and ten of the regiments overseas in Arcadia and African possessions. English settlers claim and establish a port colony at OTL Walvis bay which the settlers name Bay of Kost after they meet a local tribal chief who names himself Kost. Trade with the Kongo is furthered. New Canterbury expands 50 px north. With the capture of the imposter of Johnny English this impostor is outed. The Royal Army are sent to confront the bandits. The nobles who handed the imposter over are all rewarded with lands in Arcadia. More Arcadian and Hatian land is given to southern nobles. Continued harvesting of the resources of Haiti. The ghost ship is feared and revered but English ships continue to hunt for it. The training of a 15,000 strong peacetime army continues as the men are trained with muskets and cannons. The navy continues to be reformed with more ships of the line being produced. With Iberian and Burgundian ships defying England, privateer on Iberian and Burgundian shipping is encouraged with ships not carrying English fleet colours taking any Burgundian shipping passing through the Straits of Dover. Iberian shipping is targeted by privateers as well. with some of them operating out of Hati to hit foreign interests in the region with shore raids as well. These ships are not directly English but carry letters of Marque.
  • Russia: We continue to expand 40 px into Siberia and 20 px. With the destruction of the main Kiev field army outside Kiev we take the city and continue out push down the Dnieper River and wipe out the remnants of the Kievian army. The Fur Trade continues. Building of Markovgrad and North Shore as ports.
  • Benin: With the new capital completed and the imperial palace completely staffed, Oba Ogbebe turns his attention to more stately matters, such as the internation trade of slaves and gold to the bloodless men who arrived from sea, in return for guns and canons, for use on the empire's furthermost borders against marauding barbarians and rival empires alike.
  • English Arcadia: Following the victory over the Burgundians, we claim the territory allotted to us by the Treaty of Rome. The southern portion of this territory becomes the province of Massachett, taking the name from a native tribe. Meanwhile, the portion along the (OTL) St Lawrence river becomes Prince Henry, named in honor of the English heir. This year, Cornelius Wilmington II (Son of and Successor to the first) organizes an expedition along the river. The expedition reached south enough to reach a massive lake (OTL Lake Ontario), quickly dubbed The Lake of Doubt duh to its apperently massive size. Forts are established at both ends of the river to defend it from any encroachment. Our Expansion in the north has now followed the entirety of the Delaware river, and claims the eastern half of Pennsylvania. Expansion continues, no along our border with that section of Burgundian Arcadia. Expansion continues along the Floridian coast, and the remainder of our territory expands a uniform 10 pixels westward. Wilmington the younger continues to offer all the benefits for Immigrants that his father started, and our population no stands at approximately 820.000, the expansion mostly due to the new people from Burgundian territory.
  • Kingdom of Burgundy: New Netherlands expands 50 px up the Wacht River. Nova Belgica expands 50 px into the interior. the piracy in the Tainoan Sea is placed as a priority for the Burgundian West India Company. Frigates and schooners are assigned in pairs and trios to combat the pirates that would attempt to raid Burgundian shipping. The loss of anti-piracy assigned ships is placed on single warships being defeated by multiple pirate ships, which the group patrols is hoped to alleviate. "The Ghost Ship", or "The Flying Frenchman", depending on the storyteller, is dismissed as the babel of traumatized sailors. Meanwhile, in response to the Anglo-French tax on the Dover Straight, the Royal Navy is tasked with escorting Burgundian shipping through the English Channel, to discourage any enforcement of the tax on Burgundian ships (as it's clear Burgundy is the target of this outlandish tax). The Burgundian Home Fleet makes several sorties through the Strait and into the Channel to enforce freedom of passage. Any ship attempting to interdict the Burgundian ships has an empty broadside (cannons devoid of shot) fired in its direction from one of the escorting Burgundian ships, outside the effective range of both sides guns. The Channel Islands are outfitted as a resupply base for the escorting ships on the return voyage from the eastern end of the Channel.
  • Maipure expeditions are sent westwards to establish trade ties with the tribes of the Amazon foothills, exchanging modern steel weaponry for gold. The Maipure also appeal to slaves and indentured servants in French colonies to flee westwards, promising land and the prohibition of such oppressive laws, which helps increase the nation's population and drive further expansion (the maximal amount) southwestward. Meanwhile, Aquiminzaque orders efforts to attempt to manufacture guns. The capital of San Zacarias grows to include more than simply a foundry and cathedral, with larger numbers settling in the area. Meanwhile, efforts to create a written Maipure language continue and troops continue to aid the Iberians in the Maian war.
  • Great Iberia: The Iberian forces claim victory at Macuspana, securing the Yucatán Peninsula and advancing to Villahermosa and then Coatzacoalcos. The remaining army in Nova Lusitânia is sent to Maiam. Following attempts by European powers to support the Maian rebels (and suspicion raised about the increased traffic of Belkan warships through the Strait of Gibraltar and the Caribbean), privateers are contracted to attack English and Bulgarian ships heading towards Maiam. Buccaneers in Hispaniola and Tortuga are issued letters of marque to attack English shipping in the Windward Pasasge, legalizing their activities. The purpose of these indiscriminate attacks is to halt supply ships en route to Maiam and eventually force England and Bulgaria to retract their support for the rebels and reconsider these unprofitable ventures. Consequentially, many English and Bulgarian trade ships are sunk or captured, and the cost of supporting such a distant rebellion becomes apparent. The blockade of Maiam is reinforced by six ships. Construction continues on the defenses of Cartagena. Maranhão continues expanding eastward. Portuguese merchants and Catholic missionaries visit Ceylon, building a trading post near OTL Point Pedro. Currency in mainland Iberia is reformed. The Iberian real is split into the prata real (or silver real) and the bilhão real (or billon real), with two bilhão reales equaling one prata real.

  • Papal States: Pope Zachary, now old and frail, gives his blessing to the Hospitaller's alliance with the pirates against the infidels. "Deus vult, I suppose," he is heard to say. Not long later, Pope Zachary dies in his sleep. Whilst his body lies in state, many of Rome's poor file past, and quickly recognise him as the kindly sandalled priest who would give them food and eat with them on cold winter nights. More assistnce is given to helping the Latin-Northern mixed churches and ensuring their threology remains orthodox. The missions in Japan, Korea-China, Southern Africa, and the New World continue, and the Sakhan Church in Yakutia is given support.
    • Bishopric of St Peter: The Bishop-Captain of St Peter begins work on a renovation of his cathedral, which is currently pretty, but quite small for the seat of a Prince-Bishop. • Cherokee Confederation: A Discussion between the Cherokee, Choctaw, and Creek Tribes took place, discussing on how to prevent the pale men from stealing our lands. they bicker and argue, but eventually come to terms on a confederation. They decide who should be in charge of this new Confederation, but eventually come to agree upon the Cherokee tribe, because they are more powerful than the three other tribes. After a while the new confederation begins to become friendly with the new settlers, and trade with them. They call themselves the "English". However, after a few weeks of trading, tribesmen are beginning to get sick, really sick. These diseases spread like wildfire, "Should we trust these men? Or shall they be demons?" said the Chief.

  • Great Union of Korea and China: British envoys arrive at the port of Guangdong, and their gifts are well received and impresses the Emperor. Whilst initially reluctant, the Emperor is convinced by the emissaries that Burgundy is not a reliable trading partner, and extends equal preferential trading rights with the British. With the reconstruction efforts over, Korea–China has now largely recovered from the two decade-long Conquest of China, asides from a few pocket communities refusing or not having access to assistance. The Emperor adopts a defence-oriented foreign policy revolved on securing neighbours as tributaries, therefor acting as effective buffers. Meanwhile, he endorses a more statist internal policy, promoting the pragmatic consolidation of the state's military and economic powers; developing industrial complexes producing weaponries, armouries, and other manufactures, erecting blast-furnaces, and instituting a six month-period compulsory military service encompassing all male commoners. However, the latter policy is not harshly enforced, and the standing army remains constant at roughly ten thousand levies per province/special city. The usage of New World crops (sweet potatoes, maize, peanuts, tomatoes) alongside traditional crops have resulted in a vastly extended food supply and a reinvigorated peasant class. With the agricultural sector being oversaturated, many farmers are encouraged to cultivate cash crops such as tea or cotton or to cultivate silk-worms to obtain lucrative silk, to obtain extra income. An excess in funds allows the National Treasury to enable heightened wages, while statute corvée labour continues to be outlawed. To reduce the power of the nobility, tax exemptions are removed. Additionally, laws supporting strong property rights are established.
    • Yakutia: Sakhans have fully been relocated to the area, many renouncing their lives as semi-nomadic herders in favour of a more agrarian lifestyle. However, a significant aquaculture develops.

  • Papal States: Habemus Papam! Early in the new year, the Conclave announces it has reached a decision: the Vicar-General of Rome, Cardinal Cornelius, has been elected pope. Opting to keep his baptismal name, he becomes Pope Cornelius II. The Latin Patriarch opts to give His Holiness plenary powers over the Latin Rite. The new pope is known for two things: his love of music and art, and his great desire to spread both Catholic faith and Catholic power throughout the world. As such, one of Cornelius' first acts after his coronation is to appoint Fritz Wolfenburg as maestro di capella of St Peter's Basilica and the Sistine Chapel. The decent salary of these positions allows the composer to live comfortably and devote more time to composing operas and sacred music. Pursuant to his desire to spread Catholic power, Pope Cornelius writes to the Grand Master of the Hospitallers, telling him that "Deus most definitely vult" the High Seas Crusade, although he does caution him to be weary not to accidentally help the pirates attack Christian vessels. More money is put into the Missionary College. The Pope secretly permits funds to be secretly sent to groups in the Italian League who support unification with the Papal States.  Missions in Korea-China, Japan, the New World, and Southern Africa continue.
    • Bishopric of St Peter: Work continues on the cathedral's renovation work, which is expected to be completed early next year. The Immaculata have set up a number of schools within the region, and a number of missionaries have been sent into the hinterland to engage with the locals there. However despite some successes, a very large number of natives stubbornly cling to their pagan beliefs. Early one morning in summer, a native neophyte named Jean Paraguacu walks from his family's hut to the cathedral in the city, where he is working as a labourer on the renovations. Passing through the area known as 'Pituba', he is startled by the appearance of a beautiful woman wearing a blue headscarf and a white dress. Addressing him in his native tongue, she tells him to ask the Bishop to build her a church on that spot.  Jean replies that the bishop is pretty busy with the renovations, and probably can't spare the money. Walking away, Jean realises that he recognises the woman from the paintings in the cathedral as the Virgin Mary. Turning around to talk to her again, he finds that the woman has vanished. In town that day, Jean happens to cross the bishop's path, and tells him his story, but the bishop tells him to come back when he is less busy. On his way home that evening, Jean sees the woman again, and informs her of his failure. She replies by telling him to try again. So the next day Jean again passes the bishop, and again presses his case, saying he is now fairly certain he has seen an apparition of the Blessed Virgin. Unconvinced, the bishop tells Jean to get some sign that the apparitions are truly from Heaven. So, next morning on his way to work, Jean again sees the apparition. Asking for a sign, the Virgin says that she shall provide him with two: firstly, the bishop's nephew, who is on his deathbed with fever, shall be healed by the time Jean reaches the city. Secondly, he should gather some fruits in his mantle and present them to the bishop. Following the vision's instructions, Jean walks to town, and soon enough runs into the bishop, who is having a morning stroll around the cathedral worksite. Addressing him, Jean congratulates the bishop on his nephew's recovery, and presents him with the fruits from his shawl. However as he does so, he lets one of the edges slip out of his fingers, and as the fruits fall tothe ground, both he and the bishop gasp as they see an image of the Blessed Virgin on the inside of Jean's shawl. At that same moment, the bishop's niece arrives, breathless, having run from the episcopal residence with the news of her brother's swift recovery. Now convinced of the veracity of Jean's visions, the bishop orders work on the cathedral to stop for the morning, and all go inside to celebrate a mass of thanksgiving. Jean's shawl is placed on the altar for all to see. Many of the native workers note how the image contains various elements of symbolic importance to the native beliefs. Over the following weeks and months, word of the apparitions spreads, with people referring to it as Notre Dame de PitubaOur Lady of Pituba. Many natives come from far-off to see the miraculous image, and noting the native symbolism, many convert to the Church. Under great public pressure, the bishop agrees to build a shrine at the spot of the apparitions. Some of the more cynical amongst the Immaculata missionaries are not convinced by Jean's tale, but they cannot deny the positive effect it has had on their proseletysing efforts.

  • Rashidun Caliphate: Ten years after the Great Turkish War, the Caliphate has undergone some vast changes. The military tactics and technology of Belka has been fully incorporated into the Rashidun military, to protect the nation from futur attacks. The entire Rashidun economy had originally been based on exporting trade from their global markets. However, after the Great Turkish War, European colonization in America and Asia, the fall of Tali, and various other events, the external markets of the Caliphate have rapidly diminished, leading to vast amount of unemployment in the nation. In some places, the unemployment rate is as high as 18%. However, a large factor to keep the Caliphate economy afloat is the economic downturn in Europe, which increases the price of gold bullion in the nation. In response to the economic situation abroad, the Ulema votes to nationalize the gold mines. Another factor hampering economic growth, however, is the repeated attacks by the Knights Hospitaller against the Moroccan ships, as if they were some band of pirates themselves. The Caliph writes to the Pope in Rome, asking him to consider having the knights stop attacking peaceful merchant ships of Morocco. Meanwhile, the Coptic Church has grown significantly during this time. Since the Amharic and Coptic people increased in population towards the end of the 16th century, and have held juristiction over their private education system, Amharics make up most of the middle class within Egypt and East Africa. However, as the unemployment rate increases, many Arab companies in Egypt target the Amharic people, segregating them from jobs. This period is thus known as the "Amharic Sojourn", or the "Amharic Pilgrimage". At the same time, the first half of the 17th century led to the centralizaiton and standardization of the Coptic Church. Led by Pope Gabriel VII, the Church adopted a complex heirarchal system to ensure that all the churches within Africa ultimately derive their authority from the Holy Seat in Alexandria. The current Pope, John XIV, calls for an ecumenical council of bishops at Alexandria, where he makes centralizing reforms to the liturgy, as well as address what charitable acts could be done in response to the Amharic Sojourn. The Caliphate sends 20 ships to Bengal to aid re-establish control of their colony if they so choose. A new Caliph is elected this year, named Murad Abu Ahmed Jaffar, a direct decendent of the Jafar Abu Sufyan that once ruled the Mamluk Sultanate. Within the Ulema, the comination of scholars of Sunni and Shia background have many increasingly-frequent theological controversies, but so far they are all resolved.

    • Shahdom of Iran: Members of the Amurid dynasty continue to be elected as the Shah. The military is increased, and somewhat modernized with help from the Caliphate. Defenses on the border cities of Samarkhand and Kabul are increased. Zoroastrianism has been centralizing its theology and government after the discovery of Zarathustra's tomb years earlier. They elect a head of the religion, the Grand Dashtur, as leader of the community. However, with persecution of Zoroastrians in Iran, including the destruction of the Yazd fire temple, most Zoroastrians flee eastward to set up their communities in the Afghan and Baloch regions.
  • Great Iberia: After successive indecisive victories over Maian forces, the Iberians have managed to recapture Yucatán, Tabasco, and Veracruz. This year, they march inland, advancing on Mexico City. Meanwhile, colonial forces from Nova Lusitânia recapture OTL Costa Rica and parts of Nicaragua up to Lake Managua, reestablishing Iberian authority in these areas. Privateers are contracted to attack English, French, and Bulgarian ships heading towards Maiam. Buccaneers in Hispaniola and Tortuga are issued letters of marque to attack English and French shipping in the Windward Pasasge, legalizing their activities. The purpose of these indiscriminate attacks is to halt supply ships en route to Maiam and eventually force Iberia's enemies to retract their support for the rebels and reconsider these unprofitable ventures. Consequently, many English, French, and Bulgarian trade ships are sunk or captured, and the cost of supporting such a distant rebellion becomes apparent. The blockade of Maiam is reinforced by 8 more ships. Construction continues on the defenses of Cartagena. Maranhão expands exponentially along the branches of the Amazon and eastward to São Atto. Iberian merchants and explorers visit Korea–China, bringing sugar, tobacco, African slaves, and other goods from Iberia's colonies. Under authority of the Kingdom of Portugal, they ask for trading rights in Guangzhou, where they first landed.

Forts are established at both ends of the river to defend it from any encroachment. Trading missions also begin, to explore the lake of doubt and trade with the natives. Our Expansion in the north has now followed the entirety of the Delaware river, and claims the eastern half of Pennsylvania. Expansion continues, now along our border with that section of Burgundian Arcadia. Wondering why his map makers have been so ineffective at mapping this territory, Wilmington sends out a mapping expedition to ensure this territory starts appearing on maps. Expansion continues along the Floridian coast, and the remainder of our territory expands a uniform 10 pixels westward. Wilmington the younger continues to offer all the benefits for Immigrants that his father started, and our population no stands at approximately 840.000, the expansion mostly due to the still rapid immigration. After much deliberation, Bilzen is renamed New York City.

  • Rashidun Caliphate: With the nationalization of the gold and silver mines, the Ulema hopes to restructure the economy and create an imporved economic system. The Caliph Murad Jafar puts forward a stimulus plan to loan money from the government to the Bank of Cairo. Unfortunately, the Amharic Sojourn continues as the Coptic people are discriminated from jobs across East Africa. This creates more of an uneasy tension between them and the Arab immigrants in Egypt and Ethiopia. In response to this, Pope John XIV continues to implement charitable programs, but also creates an open forum to voice opinions of disenfranchised Coptic people. The museum of Alexandria, being mostly run by Coptic monks, is the primary center of these forums. The military is greatly improved, by modernizing the military to match the status of Belka after the Great Turkish War. A proper military training is implemented, enforcing block formations and line infantry for musket fire. Trench warefare is also considered a useful tool. In Persia, Zoroastrianism continues to spread among  various ethnicites of central Asia, particularly around Kabul. The Zoroastrian religion is fully centralized around the Grand Dashtur.

  • Papal States: Fritz Wolfenburg has another opera performed, to great acclaim. Walk into a bar anywhere in Rome and people will be able to (badly) sing one of the songs from his operas. Missions in all the usual places continue. A group of Immaculata missionaries try to enter Zulu territory and offer their services to the Zulu court.
    • Bishopric of St Peter: After the extraordinary apparitions experienced by Jean Paraguacu last year, many more natives have flocked to the Church, enthralled by the idea that the Blessed Virgin would deign to speak to one of them, in the native tongue no less. This devotion to Our Lady of Pituba is encouraged by the clergy, even those with doubts as to the veracity of Paraguacu's claims, and they use it as a stepping stone to more detailed catechism of the local populace. The Bishop writes to other territories in Laurentia encouraging devotion to the Virgin Mary under this new title. He also writes to the Holy See, asking for a papal declaration that the visions are worthy of belief.
  • Bengal Sultanate: The nation has begun to work on colonizing OTL Maurituis this year after a purchase with 50 ships setting out to the island next year to work on establishing towns and farms.on the northern coast of the island and haing a government official elected to lead the colony next year. Also the island is planned to become a trading post as well for passing merchant ships. But at home, The government has continued to work on the odernization of the nation more with renovating towns and turning them into more urbanized centers and possibly new cities. In Bhutan, towns and villages begun to be renovated into larger and more urban regions. The population of the nation has now reached 35.01 million. 26,000 men have joined the militairy. In response to the increasing privateering against Burgundian shipping, Burgundy enlists their own privateers to raid English and French shipping, concentrating on Arcadia and Laurentia.
