Prussia (German: Preußen), officially named the Kingdom of Prussia (German: Königreich Preußen), also known as Northeast Germany, is a sovereign state in Central Europe. It is surrounded by Poland to the east and south, Russia to the north, Germany to the west and southwest, and Saxony to the south.
The Prussian state came into existence in 1525 and would become a kingdom in 1701. Overtime, Prussia would emerge into a regional military power that would eventually unite Germany. The modern kingdom was established in 1947 by the Russian Occupation Forces, and the Hohenzollern dynasty was restored to the throne.
