The Republic of Quebec, (French: Republique du Quebec) commonly known simply as Quebec, is a sovereign nation on the North American continent. It is a member of the United Nations, and of the Montreal Pact, as well as a monetary union with the United States since 1994. Relations between Quebec and the Empire of Newfoundland have been strained since World War I, in which the latter occupied and annexed some of the former's territory, drawing Quebec toward the Soviet Union during Cold War I, and the United States during Cold War II.
