The Quebecois Republic is the youngest member of the North American Federation, having formerly been a part of the Kingdom of Canada. The Republic broke away in 1980. At the time, there was speculation about whether the now-isolated Province of the Maritimes would also leave Canada, perhaps to merge with New England, but they remained.
