The French Protectorate of the Rhineland or the Rhineland Protectorate was a protectorate established after the occupation of the Ruhr by the French Third Republic. It officially became a protectorate during French intervention during the German Civil War. Following the conclusion of the war, France maintained control over the region from the German Red Army.
