Robert, Crown Prince of America (Robert John Augustus Henry; 4 July 1918 - 9 August 1968) was the heir apparent to the American throne as the eldest son of Henry IV and was the father of Edward II. He was assassinated by a Japanese-funded Confederate sympathiser whilst touring South Carolina.
Assassination[]
Amidst the growing mixed feelings of the south, both jubilant and angered by being granted statehood, the Japanese Kempeitai began looking to recruit terrorists in the deep south to destabilize the U.S. after witnessing the assassination of Socialist Texan governor Lyndon B. Johnson. In 1968, Kempeitai officials begin meeting with Confederate rebels in Charleston, South Carolina and begin shipping Japanese arms to the south.
As a result, terrorism began increasing in the former Confederacy, much to the frustration of President Humphrey. Many fingers point to Japan, however the Japanese government denied the claims.
On August 7 1968, President Humphrey canceled his trip to Charlotte in the newly readmitted North Carolina due to a fever. To take his place, the energetic Prince Robert decided he will visit the city and visit South Carolina as well. The Confederate Resistance saw this as being a better opportunity to destabilize the U.S. and prepare to kill the Crown Prince. The next day, Robert's plane landed in Charlotte and he was greeted with both praise and insults. As he noted in his journal, "...I have never seen such a divided audience in my entire life."
At 2:05 PM on August 9, the Crown Prince's motorcade stopped in Fort Mill, South Carolina to meet its citizens. Twenty minutes into visiting the town, gunshots were fired and Robert was hurried back to his motorcade. Despite the security threat, Robert insisted that he should still visit Rock Hill. At around 3:00 PM, the Crown Prince's motorcade drove down Main Street with lines of people watching. At 3:02 PM, Lee Harvey Oswald, is observing the motorcade with a grenade in hand. At 3:03, he removed the pin and proceeded to toss it in the air towards the Crown Prince. The grenade lands directly in the driver's seat near the driver's left foot. An almost immediate detonation destroys the car; killing the Crown Prince, the driver, and two Secret Service agents in the car. Along with their deaths, thirteen civilians were also killed, with twenty others injured. Oswald managed to flee the scene with only minor injuries, however a manhunt was already underway.
In Washington City, the news was devastating to Henry IV and his family. When asked to address the nation about the terrorist attack, he felt he was too emotional to address the Union. President Humphrey, however, offered to the king that he would address the nation on his behalf.
