Ronald Reagan, 39th Vice President of the United States 1969-1977
Ronald Reagan was the 39th Vice President of the United States from 1969-1977, and the 1976 Republican Nominee for President of the United States. He was a famous leader of the Conservative Wing of the Republican Party, but served under Moderate Republican President Nelson Rockefeller.
Reagan was a key advisor to Rockefeller on foreign policy and also took part in repealing several regulations. He often broke with the administration on conservation policy and social policy.
In 1976 he was nominated for President, claiming to be more Conservative than the President he served under. However, he was defeated by Ted Kennedy.
Upon leaving office, Reagan became a political commentator and hosted his own radio show. He was diagnosed with alzheimers in 1986 and retired in 1991. He died in 2004.
