This article is about the Russian Federation before the Siberian offensive of April 2010. For the post-April 2010 Russian Federation, see Russia
The original Russian Federation (Russian: Российская Федерация) was a country spanning Eastern Europe and Northern Asia. Founded after the fall of the Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics in 1990, it was the largest country in the world by area before it was divided by the Novosibirsk Treaty after the Siberian offensive on April 24, 2010. Its area extended across eleven time zones and shared land boundaries with ten countries by 2008. It was the world's seventh-most populous country and Europe's most populous country. Russia's capital was Moscow, while Saint Petersburg served as its second-largest city and cultural capital and was home to the Constitutional Court of Russia. Other major urban areas in the country included Novosibirsk, Yekaterinburg, Nizhny Novgorod, Chelyabinsk, Krasnoyarsk, Kazan, Krasnodar and Rostov-on-Don. Kheromon Putin served as the head of state of Russia.
It has been replaced with the current Russian Federation after the Siberian offensive that happened between April 19 to 23, 2010.
