Alternative History

Ryan James Minnows (born March 17, 1968) is an NHL coach and former defenseman, currently the coach of the Sahalee Sockeyes. Minnows, in a 21-year career, played for the Atlanta Flames, Dayton Flyers, and Toronto Mohawks after playing for three years for the University of Toronto. During his career, he won three Stanley Cup championships (two in Atlanta, one in Toronto in his last year as an active player) and was named the NHL's top defenseman three seasons in a row, 2000-2002. After returning to his hometown of Toronto in 2008 after twelve years with the Flyers, Minnows retired following his captaining the Mohawks to their first title in two decades to enter coaching. He became the head coach of the Sahalee Sockeyes in 2017 and led them to a playoff appearance in every season at the helm, winning the franchise's first Stanley Cup in 2020 over the reigning champion Buffalo Sabres in seven games, defeating the Sabres in Buffalo in overtime in Game 7 after coming back from a 3-1 deficit.

Minnows is the elder brother of former Huron Attorney General and current federal appeals judge Greg Minnows, who like him played collegiate hockey at the University of Toronto.
