The Saarland national football team was a former association football team that represents the country of Saar in international football competition between 1950-1956 during the French occupation of the land after World War II.

History

The formation of the Saarland national team took place in mid 1949 after the SFB declined to join the French Football Federation with a vote of two to one in favour of joining FIFA. The team which was made up of mostly of 1. FC Saarbrücken members as they did enter the qualification for the 1954 FIFA World Cup as they drawn in Group 9 with Austria and Bulgaria. The struggle of international football though would be real as they would finish bottom of the group with only one point with that being against Bulgaria.

On January 1, 1957, Saarland was merged into West Germany which basically ended the SFB membership as part of FIFA and would so become part of the Deutscher Fußball-Bund.
