Saint Kitts, Nevis and Anguilla is a state of the West Indies, made up of three islands located at the northern end of the Lesser Antilles island chain, to the west of Antigua. The two islands, Saint Kitts and Nevis are mountainous and steep, with most of the population living in the flatter areas around the coast, while Anguilla is a flat territory made up of coral and limeston, sparsely inhabited.
The three islands were acquired by Great Britain during the 18th century, and, like in many other places in the Caribbean, were the destination of many African slaves brought to work in plantations. Today agriculture and fishing, together with tourism, are the most important sectors of the economy.
