Aramco oil wells in Damman

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia under King Abdul Aziz Ibn Saud has, thanks to its huge reserves of crude Oil in the Region of Al-Ahsa, which were discovered in 1938 and exploited by the California-Arabian Standard Oil (partly owned by Texaco), a great future, potentially at least. As soon as 1939, the State made over seven Million US$ from oil.

The king appointed his Son Faisal Viceroy of Hejaz and his other Son Saud Viceroy of Nejd (both conquered by him in the 1920s).

It has about 2.8 million inhabitants in 1940.
