History[]
Pre-Eruption[]
On 20 May 1927 the Treaty of Jeddah was signed by the United Kingdom, recognizing the independence of the Kingdom of Hejaz and Najd, ruled by Abdul-Aziz. Many of the Ikhwan leaders wanted to continue the expansion of the Wahhabist realm into the British protectorates of Transjordan, Iraq, and Kuwait following conquest of Hedjaz. Recognizing the danger of direct conflict with the British, the Abdul-Aziz refused to agree to this. The Ikhwan therefore revolted but were defeated in the Battle of Sabilla in 1930,and the Ikhwan leadership were massacred.
The nation of Saudi Arabia was created in 1933 following the union of the two kingdoms of the Hejaz and Najd. The new nation created boundaries with Transjordan, Iraq, and Kuwait through a series of treaties negotiated in the 1920’s, with two neutral zones created with Iraq and Kuwait. The country's southern boundary with Yemen was partially defined by the 1934 Treaty of Ta'if, which ended a brief border war between the two states.
