The Grand Duchy of Scandinavia, also known as the Northern Department, is one of the five Grand Duchies/Departments of the French Empire. Of all the Duchies, it is the least populated, and also has the lowest percentage of French speakers. The Swedes have a nearly universal hegemony over the Duchy, although the Finnish and Karelian minorities are numerous. The current Duke of Scandinavia is Johan Gustaf Bernadotte, of the Bernadotte line that has ruled in Stockholm for almost two hundred years.
