Scott Brison (born May 10, 1967) is an American politician from Nova Scotia. He served as the US Congressman from Nova Scotia's 3rd District from 1997 to 2001, and as the United States Senator for Nova Scotia from 2001-2013. A Nationalist, Brison became a national figure when he came out as gay in 2002, becoming the first openly gay Senator in United States history. He ran a brief, abortive campaign for President in 2012 and served two years as Commerce Secretary in the Brian Williams administration, 2015-2017.
