The Second American Civil War was a multilateral civil war that began in 1993 primarily fought between the forces of the United States (The American Federal Republic after 1997) and various secessionist factions and breakaway nations. Canada also participated in the war on the side of the US after California and Cascadia invaded British Columbia.

Causes for the war vary, but it was ultimately the culmination of decades of political violence and sectarianism in the United States following it's humiliating defeat in the Third World War which caused most Americans to lose faith in their political system and institutions. Increasingly authoritarian practices by the central government led to an unprecedent resurgence in regional identities and nationalism within the United States, which in-turn led to the rising popularity of separatism. The immediate cause of the war was a massive mutiny by the Texas National Guard in response to the blockade of Texas, which had been in place since 1990. The Guardsmen sided with the irregular militias in Texas and helped them seize several federal armouries, prompting the US Military to invade the state and attempt to forcibly restore order. As federal forces faced unexpectedly high resistance and began to suffer heavy casualties, black insurgents in the deep south, who had been conducting a guerilla war since the late 1960s, seized on the redirection of large numbers of troops from that area, and went on the offensive, declaring the Republic of New Afrika in 1994, this inspired other regions and states to secede, such as California, New England, Florida and Appalachia. The US Army's usage of Cascadian land to invade California caused their secession and they combined their forces with that of the Californians to expel the US. Numerous other rebellions took place across the country, many of these were uncoordinated, poorly led, and were eventually put down. A previously obscure fundamentalist Christian terrorist organization known as God's Army startlingly began to gain ground infighting against massively demoralized US troops, and at it's height controlled an area with a population of over 11 Million people before it was eventually put down. The US suffered 2 coups throughout the war, the second of which, led by Dick Cheney, resulted in the dissolution of the United States of America and the establishment of the American Federal Republic in it's stead. Cheney made peace with the Cascadians and Californians who by now had united to form a single nation, and also removed his troops from New England, although he continued the war in the South until 2001, with major fighting mostly ending in 1999.

The Second American Civil War irrevocably changed the continent forever and remains the bloodiest war ever fought in the history of the Americas, nearly 17 Million people were killed (the majority civilians in New Afrika and Texas), with tens of millions more displaced or rendered homeless. It is notable as being the first war in American history in which the US Army lost over 1 Million servicemen. Decades after the war the former United States and North America on the whole, remains a volatile region.
