The first French Republican War had given republican France a great victory over its monarchist enemies and moved its border to the Rhine and the Ebro. However, the defeated kings, most of all Humphrey V, thirsted for revenge. A new War between republican France and the British-Spanish-German-Polish-Hungarian-Danish-Swedish coalition was only a question of time, and indeed broke out again in 1779.

The War started promising for the coalition when in 1780 the Spaniards could retake Catalonia and the German-British-Dutch armies crossed the Rhine and invaded the Palatinate. But 1781, the Tide of war turned again for France, when famous general Boulanger defeated the coalition armies at Worms (June) and Weissenburg (September) and the Spaniards had to retreat behind the Ebro too. In 1782, French assembly proudly proclaimed to liberate all the people in Europe from their royal yoke.

1783, "The thrust through Germany" was delivered. General Boulanger crossed the Rhine, marched through South Hesse, Württemberg, Franconia, Thuringia until arriving in Dresden at christmas.

After the winter battle of Aussig 1784, French republican armies also invaded Bohemia.

1784, the Peace of Basel was made. Bohemia, Hesse, Franconia and Thuringia-Meissen (OTL Thuringia and Saxony) became officially French satellite republics. The remaining Netherlands became part of France itself. Württemberg proper became a part of the Swiss republic, which was another French satellite at this time. Sweden-Norway also had to cede Mecklenburg to the duke of Pomerania, which caused even king Johan II of Sweden to doubt the cause of the Royalists. The HRE was dissolved. South Aragon (Valencia) was also ceded to France, Portugal became an independent republic.
