By 1460 and with the defeat of the Byzantines a year prior, the Ottomans we're in high confidence to finally kick their own rival, Venice from their old lands and re-take into the Ottoman state. However, the Ottomans had underestimated Venice. The Venetians who had already mastered the command of the seas had re-organized their structure and reformed their navy into a modernized one. The Venetians also had enough resources to go to war with the Ottomans. On the other side, the Ottomans we're still recovering from the lost of their fleet at the famous Battle of Rhodes which saw 20% of the Ottoman casualties during the First Venetian-Ottoman War. The main reason for the war's eruption is the Ottoman plan to re-claim it's legitimacy across the continent and avenge their defeat by opening the path of Venice's collapse.

Overall Conclusion[]

To summarize what happened, the Ottomans had won a series of victories against Venice and it's allies but we're to small to impact the course of the war. On the other hand, Venice and her allies won 4 decisive victories against the Ottomans during the war one of them is the Battle of Cyprus which saw a garrison of 6,000 Venetian troops fend off an entire Ottoman invasion force of over 17,000 men. At the end, the Ottomans suffered the highest casualties to any nation in the war combined with over 370,000 losses which they'd never recover until almost a century later.
