Sequoyah is a State located in the South Central region of the United States of America. Originally a part of the State of Oklahoma from 1907 to 2010. As a direct result of the 2008 Economic Recession the state of Oklahoma decided to split in two creating the state of Sequoyah. Following the directions of a number of high ranking officials in the U.S Government the Oklahoma state legislature voted on July 7, 2009 and passed H.R. 1927 authorizing a referendum by citizens of the state to vote on whether that should split the state in two. On November 3, 2009 by a margin of 94% to 6% voted in favor of secession of the eastern half of the state.

After the referendum passed, the Oklahoma state legislature began work on splitting the state in two however before things could get underway a Delegation from the Five Civilized Tribes (Cherokee, Chickasaw, Choctaw, Creek, and Seminole) and other tribes located in the eastern portion of the state presented them with a proposal. The tribes would handle the work of forming a new state allowing the the legislature to work on other pressing matters.

Republic of Sequoyah

On January 1, 2010 the eastern half of Oklahoma seceded from the western half and formed the Republic of Sequoyah. As the Republic of Sequoyah the government formed in Tulsa, Sequoyah and sent a delegation to Washington D.C. to push for statehood for the small republic.
