Shoko Asahara (麻原 彰晃, Asahara Shōkō, March 2, 1955 – June 10, 2008), born Chizuo Matsumoto (松本 智津夫, Matsumoto Chizuo), was an Japanese-based cultist who served as the Supreme Ruler of Shambhala from 1995 until his death in 2008, He was also the founder and leader of the Japanese doomsday cult known as Aum Shinrikyo, a terrorist organization which carried out multiple sarin gas attacks between 1989 and 1994, and later of masterminding both the deadly 1995 sarin gas attack on the Tokyo subway and series of sarin gas attacks on Japan, as well as masterminding The Armageddon on 23 March 1995. He lived in a small cabin in the former portions of Kanto alongside his followers. He does not claim any political affiliation, [UNDER PROGRESS] Together with his followers, he caused The Armageddon, and as the nukes fell on the midnight of March 23, he established the Kingdom of Shambhala in the remnants of Kanto region of former Japan.
He died on June 10, 2008, from blood loss after crucifying himself to show his "allegiance to the [TBD]".
