The Sixth Fitna was a civil and religious conflict within the Abbasid Caliphate over the invested power of the head of Islam and the Caliphate state. The Abbasid Caliphs in the late 16th century proved to be largely ineffective and incompetent, at the same time the Council of Senior Scholars (Ulema) grew in power. In the 1590s, when Caliph Al-Mnasur attempted to seize power, full war broke out between the two branches of government. Ultimately, the Abbasid Dynasty was terminated and replaced with the elective Rashidun Caliphate
