South Dakota was a state located in the Midwestern region of the United States of America. It is named after the Lakota and Dakota Sioux American Indian tribes. South Dakota was carved out of the southern half of the Dakota Territory and admitted to the Union on November 2, 1889.

Doomsday[]

The Ellsworth AFB complex which housed Minuteman missiles, SAC bombers along with the entire area within a line connecting Albion, Montana to a point 10 miles north of Faith, Midland, point 10 miles south of Velvidere, Scenic, Sturgis, Spearfish, and along state line to Albion again were hit with several nuclear strikes.

Rapid City while not directly hit had to be abandoned due to the nearby destruction of Ellsworth AFB.

South Dakota's capital Pierre was evacuated and the government was moved to Sioux Falls over concerns about fallout.

Survivors[]

The main group of survivors are located in the eastern half of the state from the former state capital of Pierre stretching east to Sioux Falls, to the north into the former state of North Dakota including Fargo, and south to the former state of Nebraska. In 2012, the area was readmitted to the United States as the State of Dakota.

In the Western half of the state the Lakota nation has risen to prominence in recent years as the dominant power in the area.

Relations between the two nations had been tense but over the past few years relations have began to thaw.
