History
Following the collapse of Nazi Germany on May 5, 1945, Germany was divided among the Allies. The American occupied zone of Germany was created on July 5 of the same year. Sarah Leslie revived the Communist Party of Germany and gave it control of numerous states manged by democratically-elected workers' councils, though these states did not posses any power. The largest and most influential of these states was Bavaria. On December 29, 1947, the states united as the German Democratic Republic, though the American military occupation did not end until February 14 of the following year. The communist provisional government was granted control of Southern Germany and given military supplies by America, and on June 24, the Workers' Congress voted to invade the surrounding occupied areas of Germany, starting the German War. The first months of the campaign were highly successful, with the entirety of Germany being captured by May 12, 1949. Britain, France, and Russia established their own anti-communist government, in the form of the Federal Republic of Germany, to fight back against the German Workers' Armed Forces. Germany requested reinforcements from America. Unfortunately, America was more focused on the Japanese Civil War and was concerned that the Russians would consider such a move to be an act of war, and the resulting reinforcements to Germany proved ineffective as they were easily pushed back inwards to the capital of Frankfurt. By June 26, 1949, American reinforcements to Germany ended, allowing North Germany to defeat the Workers' Armed Forces. Finally on September 30, 1949, the South German government was dissolved, and the country was then unified under the anti-communist, formerly northern government.
