The Spalding War was a conflict in Scotland in 1889, as part of the Third Clan Rebellion. In two and a half months, Clan Spalding and their allies of Clan Sutherland and Clan Dunbar captured Edinburgh and then sacked Perth. At the Battle of Moneydie on December 18, the Spaldings defeated the ruling Chattan Confederation, led by the Mackintoshes and King Alexander IV, and the Spalding Chief Alexander crowned himself as Alexander V of Scotland on Christmas Day at Scone, beginning the Spalding Era of Scotland (1889-1973).
