The Speaker of the House of Representatives is the presiding officer of the House of Representatives, the lower house of the Cygnian Congress. The office of Speaker was established by Article One, Section 2 of the Constitution.
The Speaker is the presiding officer of House of Representatives debates, determining which members may speak. The Speaker is also responsible for maintaining order during debate, and may punish members who break the rules of the House. The Speaker is also charged with the responsibility of issuing writs for by-elections should a vacancy occur in the House.
The current Speaker of the House is Steve Georganas, Member for Charlotte, Avon. He was elected to the post on 4 January 2021, and is the 39th person to serve as Speaker.
