The "Springtime of Nations" or more commonly referred to as "The Revolutions of 1848", mostly were a series of political upheavals throughout Europe starting in 1848. It remains the most widespread revolutionary wave in European history to date.

Historically, the ideas of the revolutions', started after the "Napoleonic Wars" , in which Nationalistic and Libertarian Ideas were brought to the working classes to topple down the monarchist governments of Europe. The first ones started in Italy, in January 1848, but eventually spread all across the continent, reaching France, Ireland, Germany, and Austria, while a few of these revolutions were successful, including in Denmark and France (although the Republic would be toppled down in 1852), most of them were unsuccessful, because, they were unorganized or too small to cause a threat to the European Powers.

Nevertheless, they effectively catalysed significant reforms such as the abolition of feudalism in Austria and Germany, the end of absolute monarchy in Denmark, and the introduction of representative democracy in the Netherlands.

This timeline, however explores an alternative history, in which these Revolutions were successful, causing the collapse of the Habsburg Monarchy, a unified Germany and Italy, a Quadruple Alliance victory in the "Great War", and a way different Axis.

This ATL covers everything from the start of the revolutions up to the present world situation.

The World of Springtime of Nations

The revolutions were essentially democratic and liberal in nature, with the aim of removing the old monarchical structures and creating independent nation-states, as envisioned by romantic nationalism.

Over 50 countries were affected, but with no significant coordination or cooperation among their respective revolutionaries. Some of the major contributing factors were widespread dissatisfaction with political leadership, demands for more participation in government and democracy, demands for freedom of the press, other demands made by the working class for economic rights, the upsurge of nationalism, the regrouping of established government forces, and the European Potato Failure, which triggered mass starvation, migration, and civil unrest.

The uprisings were led by temporary coalitions of reformers, the middle classes, the upper classes (the bourgeoisie) and workers; however, the coalitions did not hold together for long.

The revolutions were most important in France, the Netherlands, Italy, the Austrian Empire, and the states of the German Confederation that would make up the German Empire in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

This timeline explores the results if most of the revolutions were successful, leading to a complete change in not only European History, but also World History. This is due to the Holy Alliance not being as prominent as in our timeline, leading to Britain focusing most of their attention not on Europe, this meant that Russia was the only ally being able to help Austria, which naturally led to the collapse of not only the Austrian Empire, but also the Holly Alliance, as Frederick William IV would become the Emperor of Germany.

Due to successful revolutions in 1848, the course of history would change. As new alliances are made, completely different wars happen, World War One starts in 1903, two Cold Wars begin and a way different World War Two happens...
