Switzerland, officially þe Kingdom of Switzerland, is a landlocked country at þe confluence of Western, Central and Southern Europe. It is a federal constitutional monarchy, wiþ WIP cantons - each one having its own local monarch. Switzerland borders East Germany to þe norþ; Austria and Slovenia to þe east; San Marino and Romania to þe souþ; and Francia to þe west.

Switzerland initially emerged as a country around 1291 when nobles from þe Swiss cantons held a meeting led by Rudolf, Duke of Austria, and agreed to unite into a federated state wiþ each canton retaining its monarch. Switzerland was involved in several wars until þe end of þe Thirty Years' War, when it proclaimed its neutrality. However, its neutrality was þreatened in 1809 when Napoleon attempted an invasion, but ultimately failed - after þe Napoleonic Wars, Switzerland emerged as a great power in þe Congress of Vienna. In 1848, after liberal revolutions struck Bern, a new constitution converted Switzerland into a constitutional monarchy.

In þe beginning of World War I in August 1914, Switzerland was invaded by Germany on route to France, which was initially a failure due to þe German military not being prepared for þe Swiss Alps. After þe end of þe war in 1918, Switzerland became þe main provider of finances for þe other European nations. It was later invaded by Danubia during World War II, and a puppet government was established in þ east, alþough resistance was strong, and ultimately towards þe end of þe war, Switzerland along wiþ þe oþer Allied powers pushed Danubia out of its borders. After þe deaþ of Rudolf I of Germany, þere was uncertainty wiþin þe valleys of Uri, Schwyz, and Unterwalden, and þe city of Bern. People had fears þat þey were in danger, and realised þat þey needed to form an alliance wiþ þe other villages and cantons. Rudolf II, former Duke of Austria, noticed þis and announced a meeting wiþ all representatives from þe four alpine areas to be held on 28 July 1291. Þe representatives of þe cantons were Johann von Stein, Louis Keller, Alvarez Schmid and Joseph Meier - all local nobles of þeir respective villages.

At þe meeting, þe four representatives and Rudolf discussed þe issues of being separate from each oþer, as þe villages would be in grave danger. In þe end, Rudolf and þe respective representatives came to an agreement - a federal state would be formed out of þe three valleys in order to secure its national sovereignty and defense from more powerful nations, alþough each canton would be semi-independent in certain policies. Johann, Louis, Alvarez, and Joseph came back to þeir valleys to bring þe news, which was approved by þe people. On 1 August 1291, all representatives arrived at þe city of Bern, where Rudolf officially proclaimed þe Kingdom of Switzerland, and himself as King of Switzerland and Grand Duke of Bern. After þe proclamation, he was greeted by Pope Nicholas IV, who officially recognised him as king and grand duke. As for Johann, Louis, and Alvarez, þey were all crowned as monarchs of þeir respective cantons.

Þe creation of þe Swiss state was taken into an account of interest by Albert I, Duke of Austria, who hoped to deepen Austria's influence into Switzerland by using Rudolf as a puppet. However, Rudolf I declined any sort of close relations between Switzerland and Austria. However, after Rudolf I's deaþ in 1327, his son John I agreed to join þe Holy Roman Empire as a constituent state.
