Syria-Levant, officially the Hashemite Kingdom of Syria and the Levant, is a sovereign nation in the Middle East. Syria-Levant is bordered by Arabia to the south, Egypt to the west, Persia to the east, and Byzantium to the north.
History[]
Syria-Levant started out as the Emirate of Syria. Syria had conquered much of the northern half of the present-day borders. However, the Zand Dynasty of Persia conquered Syria, becoming a vassal state. In the south, the Kingdom of Transjordan was instated by Britain.
After the Zand Dynasty collapsed and the Qajar Dynasty came to power, Persia released Syria as an independent state. However, the Byzantines, now with eastern Anatolia as a puppet, looked at Syria with greedy eyes. However, the Qajar Dynasty conquered the Byzantine puppet and annexed it.
In 1850, the son of the King of Transjordan and the daughter of the Emir of Syria married, and inherited the thrones of Syria and Transjordan. The lands around Jerusalem were still British territory, and remained so until the Great Middle Eastern War.
The Royal dynasty of Syria died out in 1888, so the cousin of the King of Transjordan became the King of Syria.
In 1923, the Qajar Dynasty and the United Saudi Faction rose up against the Imperialist holdings in the Middle East. Syria-Transjordan saw the opportunity and declared war on the British. However, the British pushed the Syrian army to the gates of Damascus. Syria-Transjordan was about to surrender, but both an Arab Uprising and a Jewish Uprising started in Jerusalem. The British were forced to fall back, and in a month, Israel was conquered. The Jewish Uprisings wanted their own state, but a compromise was reached. The Jews could freely stay in Syria-Transjordan, and had equal rights. Israel was incorporated into Jordan, forming the Levant, and Lebanon was annexed into Syria. Even though the war was technically over, British soldiers continued to fight in the Gaza Strip for over 10 years before reaching peace.
In 1933, the new Pahlavi Dynasty of the Persian Empire signed a defensive pact with Syria-Levant and Arabia. Originally Bukhara had joined, but the Khanate fell to a Socialist Republic, who sided with he Second World.
After the Cold War, the Middle Eastern Pact became a sole Economic pact. Once Bukhara restored it's Monarchy, both Bukhara and Kyrgyzstan joined the pact.
Politics[]
Syria-Levant is a Constitutional Monarchy with the Heads of State being the King of Syria and the King of the Levant. The King of Syria is currently Sharif Ali II of Syria. The current King of the Levant is Abdullah II. Both Monarchs play a significant role in symbolizing the nation. Although the King of Syria has more power over the Syrian Parliament, both Monarchs can declare war, end a war, declare a state emergency, veto, sign a law, command the armed forces, and symbolize the nation.
Religion[]
The official religions in Syria are Islam, Judaism, and Christianity. Islam is the most common, due to the Muslim influence in the area since the 7th century. Judaism is the official religion in the Israel region, an autonomous state with Jewish governors and Jewish laws. In the north, close to the Hatay Province of Byzantium, there is a large Christian influence. Christianity is the official religion in the Aleppo Region.
