Taiwan was in a difficult situation during these decades, as its geographical location proved to bring mixed fortunes for whatever goods were coming out of the country.
Following the Tiananmen Square protests of 1989, the slightly weakened People's Republic of China officially declared Taiwan a sovereign state and the ideological conflict ended. Taiwan later went on to found The Sinosphere with Singapore, Manchuria and the PRC.
