History[]
Tajikistan achieved its independence from the Soviet Union in 1945, and became one of the first republics to do so. For decades, it has installed a one-party state, though a flawed multi-party democracy was introduced in 1989. The country adopted its national anthem in 1946, whose lyrics have since remained unchanged, and whose chorus became the national motto. The tempo changed in 1989.
Since the early 1990s, the president of Tajikistan is Emomali Rahmon. The country still has a low Press Freedom Index.
Language[]
Tajik is still written in Cyrillic, though Latin versions also exist.
