- What is a plausible explanation for such a rise in sea water?
- When would the rising sea levels overwhelm the Thames Barrier and flood London? Where will the refugees go? Where would Britain's capital be relocated to?
This is starting to read like Flood, by Stephen Baxter. He offered an explanation that Gia (scientific Gia, that it is) "Caused" a huge release of under sea bed water to "restore" the earths biomass/diversity via a global, storm-tossed ocean. The depressing thing about that was the entire world was flooded and some lucky few escaped on a FTL ship and others in an undersea habitat. My advice is A) make it not a world ending event. B) cause sea level rises to cease around 2018ish. C) a plausible explanation would perhaps be a combination of melting ice across the world and a massive release of water contained in the crust from some geological event. Yorkshire has high ground, particularly North Yorkshire, Cumbria has large amounts of high ground as has central Wales, parts of Devon and Cornwall (Dartmoor/Exmoor and Bodmin Moor) would have bits above sea level, The Pennines would also have sections above sea level as would the Peak District as well as the North and South Downs and the Lincolnshire and Yorkshire Wolds
