My own timeline, Ethelred the Pious, might have some points of connection with this one, since both involve a more successful Vinland. I'd gladly welcome any comments. Most of the North America related material is in sketch form at Timeline (Ethelred the Pious). Benkarnell 19:22, 10 July 2008 (UTC)

A couple of maybe silly questions:

  1. Are the descendents of Leif based on real people?
  2. Is Markland the same place as mainland Labrador, or is it another island?

The descendants of Leif are fictional except for his son Thorkell. Markland is indeed the same place as mainland Labrador. Aekos 01:55, 11 July 2008 (UTC)

So is Vinland in 1580 almost like a "frozen" Viking kingdom? How, if at all, did Vinlandic society change or evolve during its centuries of isolation? Were the Beothuk on the island wiped out, assimilated, driven away? Benkarnell 04:12, 11 July 2008 (UTC)

Vinlandic society changed little during its centuries of isolation - it remained technologically and socially very similar to the Iceland of the 12th century. The Beothuks were largely assimilated into Vinlandic society. The battles for control of the island took a great toll on their population but small settlements of un-assimilated Beothuk still survived. Aekos 04:18, 11 July 2008 (UTC)

I like that a lot. It's a neat story. Have you ever heard of the obscure 70s adventure movie by Disney, The Island at the Top of the World? If not, you should look into it. It's about a lost Viking settlement on an island in the Arctic Ocean, and despite being by Disney, it's not half bad. Benkarnell 15:39, 11 July 2008 (UTC)

I haven't heard of it before, but I wiki'd it and it looks pretty cool. It looks as though the Vikings are the bad guys in it though - I bet they just want to be left alone :P. Aekos 17:34, 11 July 2008 (UTC)

Suggestions

Could Greenland/Iceland during the temperature downturn in the mid-1300's depopulate toward Vinland? That would produce an influx of slightly more modernized information. Just a thought. Louisiannan 20:24, 21 May 2009 (UTC)
