the flag[]

note that the black-red-gold has a republican connotation, the imperial one would be the black-white-red. --Marcpasquin 19:04, 26 April 2007 (UTC)

Well, that would really only refer to Germany. The Holy Roman Empire should have the imperial eagle on a gold background:

This is just the civil flag. Becides, this was the flag of the Empire for some time. --Sikulu 07:37, 27 April 2007 (UTC)
The black-red-gold? No, that wasn't used until the Weimar Republic. The Empire (1871-1918) used the black-red-white, as did the Confederacy for a few years before that. The Rheinbund actually used a flag completely similar to the French tricolore. --dllu 16:07, 27 April 2007 (UTC)
Fair enough. I will change the flags. I just thought that the black-red-gold was used by the Empire. --Sikulu 09:54, 28 April 2007 (UTC)
The thing is, both the tricolores (gold and white) were used as German flags, so they don't really apply to a Roman Empire that also comprises Austria and parts of Italy and the Balkan. --dllu 12:43, 28 April 2007 (UTC)

Timeline[]

Can you, in an abridgement, explain how the HRE held onto Italy, particularly since the HRE lost Italy in the Thirty Year's War?

Looks like Austria conquered it. Seems to be only the north, though. Lordganon (talk) 15:12, June 27, 2014 (UTC)

I meant the north, sorry. So it'd be possible with some divergences to have Austria revitalize the HRE and reconquer northern Italy?

Would that mean Switzerland would be reconquered or would Switzerland just diplomatically put itself in an autonomous position within the HRE?
