Nik, with that change would there be different Japanese Daughter langs? Like in North America and Australia? or would there be less divergence than that?
- Probably not. Spanish, English, French, etc., haven't produced daughter languages *here*, after all. With the exception, of course, of creoles, and Japanese-lexified creoles would probably exist too. There would likely be distinct dialects, of course. I'm playing around with the idea that the American dialects might've undergone a change of /S/ -> /x/ (-> /h/) just as Spanish did (which would lead to an interesting /s ~ x/ alternation in verbal inflections) - Nik 15:51, 1 Apr 2005 (EST)
