Medical Marijuana[]
Is the rise of crime a result of raiding legal supplies for recreational use? It is a good addition to the article, though, since marijuana is considered one of three major exports (the other two being fish and tea). This marijuana, in fact is said to be the best in the world! Good start to what looks to be a good article. SouthWriter 21:39, April 27, 2012 (UTC)
Civil War[]
In our time line the dictator president for life ran a tight ship even while "Human Rights Watch" (nonexistent TTL) and "Amnesty International" (Plenty of offices, but would they be in contact with Malawi post-DD?) watching over him. With the watchdogs in OTL there was not enough outcry heard in the land to produce civil war. You will have to tie the unrest in Malawi to that in the surrounding nations to make it believable. No doubt it would arise, though. SouthWriter 21:53, April 27, 2012 (UTC)
AI likely would not be back in the region for several years - basically until the fighting has been over a while.
But, I'd imagine a cession of imports would be more than enough to do the trick.

Not a Stub[]
On the 83DD talkpage there was some talk of this being a stub.
Just like to point out that it's not, really... The Royal Guns (talk) 16:10, July 10, 2012 (UTC)
Gay Rights?[]
The Gay Rights Movement had not moved much farther than northern Europe and the United States. Though AIDS was just beginning to be indentified as coming out of Africa, it had not been used to promote awareness of the rights of homosexuals there. I highly doubt if liberalized ideas about homosexual rights would have spread to post-DD Africa. The Malawin government under the regime in 1983 and beyond in OTL noted to the rarity of the problem and charged that it was mostly brought in by outsiders. With few outsiders entering the nation in TTL, I therefore doubt if such rights would be granted to the smallest of minorities still thought of as abnormal by the mores of the society. Very, very true. Lordganon (talk) 00:33, July 17, 2012 (UTC)
In real life, the president of Malawi has just announced that he will try to decriminalize homosexuality this year. So any additional rights besides simply allowing gays to exist are unlikely in Malawi. LurkerLordB (Talk) 00:47, July 17, 2012 (UTC)
Military[]
A military of that size is not even remotely logical, Guns - they don't even have 10,000 soldiers otl, both regular, militia, and reserve. Nor have they ever had many.
And, it is not your article, and that insert goes beyond your permissions.

I do not mind that guns add a millarty setion to my proposal.Goldwind1 (talk) 13:43, July 17, 2012 (UTC)
Actually, Malawai has 25,500 in OTL, and those are the active forces. Plus, they do have a paramilitary wing known as the Mobile Force Unit. Additionally, the military during the 80s was about 10,000 strong, not counting the paramilitary Young Pioneers which served as the President's personal army. So they have had many troops Lordganon, a lot more than what you are suggesting. "Truth fears no questions..." 18:12, July 17, 2012 (UTC)
Gold, the point is that he didn't have permission to do it, and that's against thr wiki rules. Glad to see you approve it, mind.
Viva, have a look at this page. Not the page on their military.
And that total is from an actual source, one that is considered to be "expert" on the matter. Moreover, if you google it, my number appears in many places while the other one only appears in the wikipedia article, and a site that has entirely copied it, and is lacking a source.
So, no, it is not 25,500 strong. Not even remotely.

I apologize- when Gold asked me to help him with the layout, I thought part of the problem was he lack of certain sections.
