Is this supposed to be an althist? Louisiannan 00:07, 28 February 2007 (UTC)
- I vaguely remember ready of a project to settle a large number of jewish here in australia but I don't think this althist is meant to be taken completely seriously. --Marcpasquin 00:28, 28 February 2007 (UTC)
Is this serious?
As serious as any althist. This is predicated on the failure of the Balfour Declaration to establish a Jewish "national home" in what was then Palestine. Western Australia was not among the options discussed by the territorial-zionists of the late 19th and early twentieth century (Uganda was foremost), but might have been for a British government looking for an alternative.
- Its the use of "Oystralian Confederacy" on the map and a few other notes that made it seem like a light-hearted Althist.
- Regarding the choice of australia, I've manage to find the article I was thinking of. In 1935, a man called Isaac Nachman Steinberg co-founded an organisation called "Freeland League for Jewish Territorial Colonisation" who were planing on bringing around 75 000 jews in the kimberley region near the town of Kununurra. In the end, the Council of Australian Jewry came out against prefering to encourage settlement in Palestine. --Marcpasquin 00:08, 1 March 2007 (UTC)
