Really making some MAJOR leaps of faith (and ignoring realism) to create a conservative Republican fantasy there, aren't you? Goldwater "wins the Vietnam war" by pulling out American troops and letting the ARVN "buy a bunch of equipment" and defeat both the insurgency of the VC and the NVA?!?!?!?

And they do it in under 2 years, so he becomes popular and gets massive tax cuts pushed through a Democratic Congress?!?!? Then "fortunately" Nixon (who was a liberal when it came to the EPA, OSHA, detente with the Soviets, opening China) DIES and let's you get in Ronald Reagan in 1972?!?!??

It's like an althist version of Rove's dream of a "permanent GOP majority" (and we all know how THAT turned out, huh?)70.150.208.34 14:52, 6 February 2009 (UTC)

I understand your point of view and will change it to make it seem a little more realistic.--Emanresu11 01:08, 8 February 2009 (UTC)

Maybe a Democrat winning the White House in LESS than FORTY-FOUR YEARS after Goldwater, might help with the realism. You DO realize that Republicans are not infallible nor Democrats eternally un-lucky or stupid, right???97.82.131.34 02:06, 8 February 2009 (UTC)

Rather than just giving loads of critisicsm lets enact some changes.

1. Goldwater doesn't give SV all the equipment.

2. The tax cutting plan is shelved.

3. As Goldwater does nothing spectacular, Humphrey/McGovern win in 1968.

4. Richard Nixon doesn't die and runs for president in 1972.

I'm not sure who should win in 1972. These are suggestions, I won't do anything until its agreed. True Nixon was a liberal (even though he was evil). - 82.38.98.206 20:43, 3 March 2009 (UTC)

I have begun to make some edits that make Goldwater's presidency much more realistic such as U.S reentry into Vietnam, Congressional pressure etc I will also change it so that Nixon does not die and Edmund Muskie is elected president in 1972. In 1976 Muskie loses to Reagan and Republicans hold onto the White House Until 1993 when Ted Kennedy becomes President after winning in 1992.--Emanresu11 21:30, 3 March 2009 (UTC)
