questions about the game[]

i want to join soon and i have a few questions

  • for one are signups closed? the game seems to be progressing quickly...
  • and also where do you find the pictures of your presumably fake people?

1. Signups are not yet closed, and will close on the 30th. However, on the 30th, no new candidates will be accepted and any candidates that have not filled out their backstory (what you post here), their resource allocations, and a large number of policies filled out. Your candidate must also not be ridiculous/obvious troll and must be constitutionally eligible to run for president.

2. For the pictures of fake people, I'd google a picture of a state senator or other politician who nobody knows. If you're trying to mimic a real candidate, you can use their picture (as the Libertarian candidates have used Ron and Rand Paul).

Vatonica (talk) 03:28, January 21, 2016 (UTC)

Announcement[]

On January 25th, any candidate who has not filled out the resources, has not answered more than 13 of the 39 questions OR is obviously a troll will be removed from the race. Furthermore, on January 25th, no new candidates will be accepted.

What time will polls come out[]

Just was wondering what time the democratic polls will come out

Stage 2[]

Stage one of this game is complete. Stage 2 will be the active campaigning, including fundraising, choosing which states to focus on, and gaining endorsements. I am still working on it, though, so bear with me. Ask me questions if you want.

Vatonica (talk) 01:18, January 26, 2016 (UTC)

soooo when are the polls coming out? how long is this gonna take? The longer this goes on, the game runs the risk of dying due to lack of posts/disinterest. AP (talk)

I'm working on it. There are a ton of Democratic candidates, and once I get the polls ready, they'll be easy to change based on what is occurring and it won't take this long again (plus candidates will drop out). Vatonica (talk) 03:05, January 26, 2016 (UTC)

great! So will that be tonight or some other time? If you need logistical support, I've done tons of games on here before. AP (talk)

Primaries and the General[]

I have a few ideas that we can implement to keep the game going once the primaries are over. We are about to get started with the primaries, and it will be fun to battle for our respective party's nomination, but there's just one issue. Only one candidate will emerge from a field that includes several players in either camp. We will have the Dem ticket, the GOP ticket, and the Libertarian ticket. That's just three people, max 6 if they choose other players as their running mates. I have some ideas for those who may lose interest if they lose their primary battles.

1. We could have certain people play as different media outlets. They could release certain stories that buoy or help to sink certain candidates, depending on the political leanings of said outlet. It can be a fun way to raise the difficulty of the general election campaign (or even the primaries). Of course there would be limits to their powers as the media, but that would be something we could all discuss.

2. This may have been obvious, but once the primaries are over and we get to the conventions, it would be great if the nominees select other players as their Veeps. This would keep players in the game and add some fun for when the VP debates roll around.

3. Any other ideas? Let me know what you all think! I'm just trying to keep this fun for as many people as possible for however long we can! :D

AP (talk)

A couple ideas:

  1. Once the race whittles down, we should have debates. I don't know if they should be held on the live chat or on a page itself, but debates would be a great way to allow candidates to interact with each other and test each other's views.
  2. Once the game ends, we should have an epilogue stating what happened during the president's term and to the other candidates in the talk page. Just a fun way to tie up loose ends.
  3. Also, I think if you (@Vat) are not using an algorithm or something of the sort, you should let someone else into the mod team to balance out your views, keep the ball rolling, and add objectivity.

—Bfoxius (talk)

I thought debates were a given. Yeah I think they could be implemented on chat, that way you can only say what you know.

Idk how we would incorporate an algorithm into this.

Players + Announcement![]

Hi, can we have a central location where everyone can sign their name next to the candidate that they're playing as. This is so it can be easier to find the person behind the candidate, rather than having to look at edit history and whatnot.

For example, I will write my name next to where my candidate's name is on the main page of the game. I hope everyone else will follow, so we can have more order.

Also, I'm noticing that most folks haven't posted in a while, given the lack of movement in this game. Would anyone be interested in having an unofficial candidates' forum? While this wouldn't be a debate, it would be a cool way for all players to interact with their fellow candidates and answer questions. What format would you all like that to be in? Chat? Google Hangout? Is this something you all would be interested? I'm just trying to keep interest going so none of y'all get frustrated with the game and quit. Feel free to reply with any questions or comments you have! :D AP (talk)

I like this idea^^^^^ BIG DONALD (talk) 17:36, January 29, 2016 (UTC)

If this is something you all would like, how would we do it? There's no multiperson private message that I know of on the site and regular chat would be hard to do (given that people who don't play the game also frequent the chat room). AP (talk)

Withdrawal[]

I'm sorry, but I really don't know how the progress of this game is being measured. From what I can see, the most left-leaning candidate is leading in all of the polls, followed by other left-leaning candidates. It just feels sorta wrong to me. Until I have some idea as to how this game's outcome is being determined, I really cannot continue to partake. Sorry. The Xania Encyclopedia Wiki Vivaporius: "I don't need a slogan" 02:44, January 31, 2016 (UTC)

I do feel that it is maybe possible that some of the polls are influenced by Vat's personal political leanings a tiny bit. I mean all of the leading candiates in both parties have very similiar views. Not complaining I am just interested what sort of fomula we have. Person67 (talk) 07:42, January 31, 2016 (UTC)

Game not moving fast enough[]

Hey y'all-

so I'm sure a lot of you are frustrated with the slow pace of this game. I'd like to begin by explaining that this isn't a traditional map game but that doesn't mean that it can't have new content daily!

Managing a map game is quite difficult. One person can't do it alone. From what I know, Vatonica is the only mod for this game and it seems like he hasn't posted in a while nor has he replied to my messages. What should we, as players who don't want the game to die, do? I don't think we should act unilaterally, but I also think that we shouldn't do anything without Vat (even if it means waiting for him to post..). What are your opinions?

This is a very interesting game to me. I came back from a long hiatus because it caught my attention. I would hate to see it die after everyone else has invested so much into it! I hope we find a solution to creating daily content. I've layed out a few ideas on the talk page, so let me know if you all think! I'm sure we can come up with cool ideas together :D AP (talk)

Vatonica[]

I am sorry I have been incative recently. It is my bad. I have had other issues to deal with, and still can't be active much for a while. I am turning the Game over to Awesome Peruvian, and hope that it succeeds without me. Sorry I have to leave.

Vatonica (talk) 03:19, February 12, 2016 (UTC)

Don't worry, we'll make sure the game succeeds. Thank you for entrusting it to me. You're welcome back anytime! AP (talk) 00:54, February 13, 2016 (UTC)

Doesn't the running mate need to be someone from the game?[]

On the Democratic side doesn't the running mate have to be from the game?
