Alternative History

According to the New Britain page, Tristan, along with St. Helena and Ascension Island, is a dependency of New Britain. I think that's actually pretty old canon. Now, it would make sense that the three islands would be governed separately given post-DD troubles, so maybe what this page can teach us is what Tristan is like as a self-governing island. According to WP the three islands were united as one territory in 1938. Maybe that union, if it exists today under NB, is more loose than in OTL. (EDIT) TdC's real-life flag dates only to 2002. In this timeline they would have something different. Benkarnell 17:39, February 3, 2011 (UTC)

New flag and coat of arms[]

Since the OTL flag was designed in 2002, something else is clearly needed. I've played around a lot with these designs, and these are the final versions I'm happiest with. I was going for something that was definitely British, but which didn't quite follow the rules or fit the style of the professionals in the College of Arms, who weren't around to design it.

The arms show a silhouette of the island in the sea with a sunrise behind it - nothing too original there, but that's sort of the point. The English lion in a chief matches arms in many former colonies. The royal crest is used without alteration, almost in an attempt to out-British the New British. The motto is the same as in OTL, mostly because it's so appropriate for a post-DD world. I have no idea when it was actually written. The motto appears on a belt around the shield, which technically makes it a badge, not a "proper" coat of arms; but it's after the apocalypse. Strict heraldic enforcement ranks low on the priorities list. I feel it adds a certain panache by evoking the Order of the Garter. Benkarnell 05:19, April 26, 2011 (UTC)

Proposal template[]

There is no "Tristan" section at the main discussion page. Has this page been de-propped, or what? I re-wrote it and then went undercover, so it's not totally clear to me what its status is. Benkarnell 22:29, May 9, 2011 (UTC)

Heh. Didn't even know it had a prop template on it, lol. Yeah, Mitro asked if there was objections to dropping the review tag, and there wasn't, so it was put back into a good spot.... think it was even me who did that, rofl. Go ahead and drop the Prop template, I seem to recall it was put there when the review happened. Lordganon 22:39, May 9, 2011 (UTC)
